Sushi Town

Google and your website said you're open. I order off your site and pay. I show up and the restaurant is closed. What the hell? Closed at 530 pm on a Saturday? Now I have a party with no food for my guests. Thanks a lot!
By the way I want my money back.

Beware of menu, not all major ingredients are stated. We ordered takeout poké bowls online. Stated ingredients are: salmon or tuna, wakame, edamame, cucumber, avocado, crab, masago, tamago. Without any notification by phone or at pick up, two of these items were substituted for something else, one of which my husband is highly allergic to. When I called to inquire, the person said because I didn't put the allergy in the notes, they can't do anything about it. I clarified that the ingredient was not listed in the description on the menu and explained the severity of the situation. I asked if I had multiple allergies, would I have to list every single one. She said yes. I myself am allergic to beef but if I'm ordering a chicken dish with no mention of beef in the description, I would not tell the restaurant I am allergic to beef. My mistake for ordering from Sushi Town I guess.

Come back every few years to eat.
I feel it's a little worse than before, but I can still give it a 3.6/5 score.

The food is delicious, but the waiter always seems to be in a bad mood. Is this a specialty of the restaurant?

Rudest servers. I went there at 8: 15pm and they told me they're closed. It's the second time happening, seems like they can say that they're closed whenever they feel like it.

It used to be an outstanding sushi restaurant.now it is unrecognizable, the menu and servings/dishes have literally shrunk to one-third and service denigrated.

I called at 8: 35 for pick up order they said they were closed even though they close at 9

We used to go here every week from 2007-2013. It was excellent. Easily the cheapest sushi in all of Burnaby.
The party tray A, B, C and D we're the most popular options. Their sashimi were fresh and cold.

Fast forward a few years, and they changed ownerships a few times. It's not as good as it used to be, but it's still decent.

All the party combos are now gone, but the sashimi is still fresh and the food is still relatively cheap.

It's just not the legendary Sushi Town we locals grew up with.

Update June 2022: food quality has degraded significantly. No proper hygiene is implemented here. People handle and make food with no gloves.

Food is always good here.we have been coming here for ten years and they never let us down. Highly recommend.

Really fresh and amazing food. Very friendly staff and clean washrooms which is a sign of good management. I think they should serve their Miso soup a bit warmer. Other than that its a great restaurant.

Used to be a great place. We used to go almost every weekend. The quality of food has changed. Most of the time under staff and poor service.

Tempura tasted like it was fried in old oil and the prices seemed high for Vancouver sushi, but the ingredients tasted fresh and the meal was fast at last

2022 UPDATE: no longer worth it quality gone down, price went up more, portions reduced. Go to Sushi Giwa instead if you're in the area!

I've been a regular customer here since 2013. The quality has improved over the years, however prices also have gone up quite a bit. Especially for the sashimi dishes.from $9.95 for 8pcs of salmon to now something like $13.95

The service here is never the greatest, but it's the amazing sushi and sashimi at affordable prices that always brings me back. It's a staple sushi restaurant among my friends and so much better than Sushi Garden. Definately a neighbourhood favourite!

Update: visited again today, and noticed the new menu updates with photos of their popular choices. I added photos of the iy (hopefully they they get approved.)

Small cosy restaurant. Taste is really good and tempura portions are bigger than some restaurants.

Sushi Town is our family's favorite sushi restaurant. We love the portion size, taste and their foods. I tried spicy sashimi from several japanese restaurant. Sushi town's spicy sashimi is the best one compared to others. Our family enjoy chiken teriyaki, rolls and sushi. One of the menu I always get is fresh roll. If you are worried about too much rice from the rolls, fresh roll would be the alternative choice you can try. It is cucumber wrapped roll with sashimi inside. I love it.

Used to come here almost every weekend until their food portion got very small than it used to be and their food quality at this Burnaby branch isn’t as good as it used to be. Like wow $16 for this very little portion? I’m disappointed because back when they just open and back in 2019 they gives much more than this.

I’m definitely not coming back to this branch again.

I give Sushi Town, Burnaby location one star because the quality of food was terrible. The sushi was food court quality and the salmon & tuna nigri was sliced so thin you could see right through. The chicken karaage tasted and looked like Taiwanese salty peppery chicken nuggets. The sushi rice was HARD and undercooked; tasted like it was old rice. You definitely don't pay for what you get. We were regulars prior to the pandemic and the food tasted great! However, I think management has changed since then. Very disappointed as this was one of our favourite sushi restaurants. Will not be returning.

We love this place and all their variety of sushi. The food is always fresh and tasty and reasonably priced in comparison with other sushi restaurants. Mostly they are extremely friendly and kind here.

Pretty good portions and yum! Got the deep fried Cali roll and chicken teriyaki. Perfect for a rainy night.

Personally, I don’t eat sushi, but my mom does! Been grabbing take out from here for at least ten years. Wouldn’t keep going if it wasn’t good! Quick orders for pick up in a convenient time. Definitely going again and again, for years to come.

This was one of the best sushi experiences I've had, especially the service and presentation of the food. There was also a lot of food, and I should have ordered less! One combo will fill.

Ordered online, and got confirmation e-mails including that the order was ready and awaiting payment. When I showed up to pick up the order the place was dark, closed, with no one inside.

I'd expect their website to at least be updated when the restaurant is closed unexpectedly, if not here.

With the weird times of COVID they sat us away from people which is much appreciated. Food is priced to go with the quality. I would definitely come back here again. Had one issue with the soft shell crab, they served it with lettuce that was still super wet which took away some of the texture from the crab as it was on top. Other than that great place to dine in while you still can. I look forward to coming back here in the near future!

Food was good. Service was acceptable.

Ordered negitoro cones. They are now 1/2 size as they used to be for similar pricing. Only 2 people in restaurant when we came at 2pm. I wonder why.

Have been ordering for pick, been an active customer but this time I opened the take out box and found a fly inside creeping on the rolls with sticky legs.

Typical of what you would expect from a Vancouver sushi restaurant. Similar to other chains like sushi garden and sushi California. Sushi comes out good and is usually very fresh.

This place was AMAZING for both price, quality and location. I was really happy with the service and got a lot of food without breaking the bank. I will definitely be back here soon for more great sushi adventures!

Had the love boat. Good sashimi except for tuna pieces which were bit too cold. Tuna nigiris were good though. But overall good platter. Should reduce the price to about $40 though.

Good price for the amount of food given, sashimi was fresh and rolls were good. Staff are very nice.

Great food fresh fish and some awesome rolls A must try service is ok. Will be back for sure. Came back after things had changed at this location and thought we should give them another try after not going for a year. Our favourite was there spicy salmon sashimi they had the best spicy sauce and well things changed it went from great and wonderful to fresh out of a bottle and to strong so here are two things we had and we really enjoyed them the salad was out standing. Have not got the guts to try the spicy salmon sashimi yet but we will consider it now.

We have been a regular for several years, things have changed over the last couple of months. Portion size and skill of assembly not the same.prices up.still scruffy and noisy though.going much less often as there are so many in the same price range to choose from in our area

Alaska roll and spicy tuna or salmon sashimi is awesome here. Few places have similar spicy sashimi but they aren't as good as here. Solid Burnaby institution

Dropped in for dinner no wait sat down right away. Service was decent and we got our order promptly. The dishes were below average. The Gomae was swimming in a bowl of sesame sauce, the Fresh Roll was a mush of ingredients wrapped in a cucumber with a thick skin, and the Spicy Tuna roll tastes like onion paté for some reason.

The prices have risen a little but the portions are big and filling. The service is always very pleasant.

This is one of our go to for sushi! It’s fresh and very decent portions. Their hot sauce on spicy tuna is hotter than most other restaurants but has good flavour. The salad is basic but the dressing is one of the better dressings I’ve had. If u are looking for good and decent priced sushi I say this is a place to check out.

As a disclaimer I have one of the best value sushi joints near me and I get spoiled sometimes. Although the portions and prices are decent the quality of food and service is a bit low. The sushi is sooo loose its falling apart before it hits the table. The chopped scalop I tried was stale and smelly. The servers look sad and inexperienced. It feels like a restaurant run by teenagers. Kinda weired atmosphere here but many still come. Its rarely empty so it's good for sushi freshness. I come here now and then cause its open later than the other places I normally go to.

Best sushi going. My go to when I'm in Vancity. Head up to north burnaby and get yourself a spicy tuna tempura roll. My absolute favorite

The sushi was really good! Decent portions and fresh avocados. I wished things weren't as salty (especially miso soup!). But it could be because we made it to last call. All the salt sunk to bottom.

Tasty food and good personal but some times rolls fall apart when you grab them with chop sticks. May be just me, but didnt encounter this problem in some other places

Been coming here for awhile now. This place serves solid and fresh sushi.
Their menu and food provided is very much like Sushi Garden's. The service I get here is pretty good and they refilled my tea after asking. Food came quick and served with a smile. Server also checked up on us while we were eating.

I usually order the salmon sashimi which is cut very nicely with good sized portions. The taste is very fresh, light and chewy. The Awesome Roll is one of my favorite special rolls to get. It is a California roll with bonito flakes, seared salmon and drizzled with spicy mayo; the flavors really combine well with each other. The Alaska roll is yummy as well but does look a bit gross. The chopped scallop is a bit of a disappointment as isn't much flavor to the roll and the scallops are diced to tiny morsels.
Other rolls I suggest is Bill's roll.

The food has become more mediocre every time I go back.
I don't really come here as often as I used to when I was a student. My staple rolls (ie california roll, dynamite, alaska roll) have remained the same but I've noticed that rice and noodle dishes have diminished in quality. Barely any vegetables or other ingredients included in the udon noodle soups and the HOT stone bowl I ordered tonight was cold.
Probably will stick to the staples from now on as they're really hard to mess up. Their food always comes out very quickly and it's not very expensive. However you get what you pay for and I wouldn't say it's very good value for your money.

Awful service! Went out for a family member's birthday. My dish came out wrong. I told her I'll get sick if I eat this stuff can you change it and take it out. I send the dish back but then the server returns the same dish and says you have to pay for and we can't do anything for you. They also forgot a roll we ordered and she says oh I didn't hear you ordering that item so we paid for the dish we didn't eat and waited for the roll till last minute. No apologies. Nothing. I was very disappointed and couldn't believe we still tipped her. I wasn't in charge of paying cause I wouldn't give her a penny. Never go to sushi town in Burnaby. I usually go to the one in North Van and the service is better. At least they pay attention to your orders and don't mass it up. I like sushi but unlike chinese restaurants even if they mess up your order they'll bring it back and expect you to eat it and pay for it. It happened to me at another sushi restaurant also. I eat sushi at least few times a week and if the restaurant has bad service I never go back.

I visited this place yesterday. It's soooooo nice! I loved their food. It was delicious but not expensive. Usually, this kind of major sushi restaurants is notorious for its rude servers (probably it's because they are very busy), I don't have anything to complain about servers. Once again, this restaurant was very good.

Really good sushi place. Very decent price and very good portion size. Even the cut of the sashimi is very thick when I compare to alot of other sushi places.especially Edmonton.

Ordered takeout. They forgot a roll so we had to go back. They offered a roll on the house which is very kind but by the time I got home (10 mins) all the sushi was soggy and even the ones I just picked up. So grossed that I couldn’t finish it.

Sometimes the food is good and sometimes it can make you sick. Very hit or miss I’ve had food poisoning around 1-2 times but I keep going back because of their Alaska roll. It’s the only place that I can get the best Alaska roll, servers are not nice and don’t smile or check on you.

They have gone down hill. The service was slow even though there was not many tables. The prices have really gone up as well. The food is okay. But probably try some where new next time.

I have been eating here one a month at least for 5 years and quality has been good. However, I can not say same things for service quality. Servers have always sour face. No more warm welcome. Also, they don’t come around after placing order.

The food is okay. The service is one the worst. We were waiting for 15 minutes to pay and leave but staff was busy eating and couldn’t care less.

They can get busy so sometimes a wait but on busy nights it is better to order to go. The dine-in experience has always been good.
