Sushi Umi

Nice spot on Lonsdale, a bit pricey at $30 for a lunch box, but it was good, and the staff is great.
Want to try dinner there one evening.

This has been our go-to sushi spot for the last year and a half and it never disappoints! The fish is always fresh, the rolls are always of considerable size and the staff is so kind and friendly. Highly recommend!

Number one…best sushi restaurant ever…my daughter and I are going there at least twice a week and won’t stop.

Umi Sushi is a bit on the expensive side but good quality food. The bento box is good just wish there was a little rice with the teriyaki.

I was sad when my old favorite sushi place closed, but was delighted to find this place. Very good.

Certain items are good. The rest are below average. Chicken is dry, heavy, disgrace to Japanese cooking. The salad is unbeatable.

A toughie. The food tastes good, service is good. Portions are a bit small for the Donburi. Prices are a bit better than average but perhaps to he fair its pretty much the going rate for eating out nowadays.

Food prices have jumped on the menu by almost 40% Bento boxes were 15-17 now 24 -27 WTH inflation is not that much come on!

Really yummy sushi and the staff are so incredibly friendly! My partner and I popped in for a quick lunch and I swear every single employee said bye and thank you to us haha it was really nice!

I had my service dog with me with the west which is written service dog. The staff asked us to sit outside in 18 degrees, when i asked them about the reason the responsible person came and asked me about the proof of certification of the service dog! The food is good i cant complains but with this attitude im not going there again!

The best chicken karaage (with skin) that I've ever had!
Huge selection, large portion sizes and big cuts of fish for the nigiri, good rice flavour and texture, lots of bonito flakes on the takoyaki, fair prices overall.

Service/attention declined after food was placed on the table and tea was never refilled. Chutoro was more like akami, otoro was just ok. Uni is pricier than other places (but I'm happy they had stock as most places are already sold out).

Nice place, very clean, staff are friendly. Great experience except our order was wrong even after it had been repeated back to us correctly.

Best deluxe sushi rolls in the lower mainland. Some even say there deluxe is too deluxe.like there is too much mango on the mango roll or some crazy stuff like that. And there is but it's deluxe. Super deluxe!

Awful quality! All the sushis were fallen apart and impossible to be picked up by chopsticks! They were a pile of rice and mango, never recommend or try again

WOW! Excellent service, great tea and miso soup. Delicious rolls and melt in your mouth fresh Tuna. Loved it. Great value for the price.

Very disappointed that Sushi Umi is no longer using the food delivery services eg. SkipTheDishes/UberEats/DoorDash or even their own delivery option.

Food excellent for lunch today. Service was above and beyond and friendly. Nice ambiance too. New favourite!

Delicious, fresh tasting sushi; generous portion sizes; attentive, friendly service; and pleasant dining experience overall! There's plenty on the menu for both the sushi purists among us and for the more adventurous sushi fans out there.

Typical western-style sushi place. There is nothing special about this place. But some reason, their sushi taste much better than other places.

This was our third try but our first visit to dine in. This is my favourite sushi place in North Vancouver. You can get wild salmon of you like (yay!).

It gets really busy, so bring your patience. The staff do great under a lot of pressure.

There is a lot of competition for sushi in Central Lonsdale. In my opinion this is just an okay choice. I found the meals very expensive - Bento Boxes start at 19 dollars, which is 50% more expensive than what you can find nearby. There are also no appealing sushi combos for a reasonable price. The food was good - we tried the sashimi and teriyaki bento boxes. The service was mediocre - seems especially understaffed, as the employees were literally running all over the place trying to fulfill orders.

Excellent restaurant. I've been several times. All the time delicious. All staffs are Very kind and clean.

The staff are very hardworking and accomodating.western style sushi made by koreans. Huge nigiris and huge rolls with 300 sauces on sushi. This is mainstream western sushi, just like 85% of sushi restaurants in the west. They make it well and are very consistent.

There is however nothing special about it. This sushi place is just like every other sushi place around the area with very very little nuances between them.

Great staff though, this is something I want to emphasize.

I really wanted to like this place but I had a pretty awful culinary experience. From the hair in my sushi to overcooked teriyaki to really bad salad dressing I can honestly say that I’m unimpressed.

We ordered House roll sushi, Grouse mt roll, chicken teriyaki, dragon roll.
My husband and I were starving so we ordered 4 meals.

The food portion was sooooo huge!
And they are super delicious!
Chicken Teriyaki was favorful and very tasty.
Servers are super nice and attentive.

I will definitely go to this place again and try all other menu!

Great vegetarian rolls, huge portions. First visit here and I was very impressed. Delicious and well presented specialty rolls. Impressive COVID -19 response. The server/hostess Hailey was amazing.

Hands down the BEST sushi on the North Shore/Vancouver! As amazing as the food is their customer service is even better. Friendly staff, lovely ambiance.

The fishes used for sushi and sashimi are very fresh. The size is generous and the price is more than reasonable.

High quality sushi. Probably the best quality I’ve had on the North Shore! They have uni as well as foie grad nigiri. Will definitely be ordering from them again

Amazing food, brilliant service, extensive menu, this place hits the mark for incredible Japanese food at a decent price and nice portions!

We first thought that the prices are a little aggressive… but that was before our food arrived! The portions are huge and so well worth the price! The team is nice, caring and attentive. Paired with a cold draft of Asahi, we truly enjoyed the meal and will return!

My favorite sushi spot on the north shore. I love the nabeyaki udon and Eunice roll. A little pricey but worth.

If you usually get calamari for appie, this has the best calamari i’ve had. It’s uncomplicated but perfectly cooked, tasty squid inside with breading that does not overpower the calamari. The sauce they have also really compliments the dish!

Authentic Japanese food. High quality and lots of variety. The tuna and salmon nigiri were top notch and the Yakitori was also really great.

This awesome new joint has been open for a little over a year and I've yet to find a spot on the North Shore that gives you rolls that big for such great prices. The staff are lovely, the vibe is chilled, and if you want to watch some sports while you're eating they've got that too. In the summer sit outside on the patio and enjoy the weather. Easy to get to - parking in the area is alright. Lots of 1 hour stuff, but that's enough for you to get in and have a delicious meal!

Today was our third visit to Sushi Umi and I am pretty disappointed by the food and service! Last two visits were amazing experiences and that was why we decided to go there for another good experience.
We went there as a family of three and ordered 5 sushi rolls and a meal box together, but not even two orders got to our table at the same time! By the time my box gets to our table, my family were almost done eating their rolls! So we couldn’t really enjoy eating together.
The food quality has dropped noticeably, the $11 Alaska roll wasn’t as half fresh as last time! You can find much tastier Alaska roll for half this price in other sushi places in North Van!
Although it was a Saturday early afternoon, the restaurant was almost empty and that was a red flag! I think people are realizing that the quality is going down!

Good place with fresh and delicious sashimi. The chef and owner are from Korea, so you will find some Korean elements in their dish. However, they have also been creative and they actually add some western elements to satisfy locals. Good for small party gathering.

The atmosphere is nice. All the staff members are super friendly. The food is delicious. Nice service. Thank you.

I would give 5 star for food quality and 3 for service quality. We were there last night after doing some yard work. So clothing grass stained and old shoes. First don't give ppl.attitude when asking for water, you had along day, it's not the customer's fault. Secondly, restaurant was only half full and it took 20 minutes for a simple order to arrive. On the positive note, the food was really good and prices are reasonable, though higher then average for Lonsdale sushi joints.

Good sushi overall. Tasted fresh, and the ratio between rice and filling was perfect.
The salmon teriyaki was very delicious but on the oily side.

I did not try sushi yet, I did not like seafood udon which is poor by look, content and taste compared to other similar Japanese in North Vancouver.

We enjoyed dinner. Food was so flavourful, nice ambiance, fast service. Can recommend the sushi pizza.

Maybe the best sushi I've ever had. Very fresh, great presentation. They don't cheap out with the ingredients at all. It is also impossibly quick. 10/10.

Good Prices, Great food, Beautiful Presentation. Hands down the best sushi place I have ever eaten at. Lonsdale offers many sushi restaurants, but none compare to Sushi Umi.

More expensive than your average sushi place but good atmosphere, good service, and love their menu! So many unique options and excellent presentation!

Very rude staff, food is okay at best.but the staff member is extremely rude.do no recommend, I feel like the manager and the waitress are a couple that working together no point in complaining to the manager.

I don’t find it stand out compared to many of the sushi restaurants on the same street. Food was average.

The food is exactly what any sushi lover is looking for. Great choices and the quality is superb. The place itself could be a bit better but you truly forget where you are once you start eating their delicious food. Bravo Sushi Umi. Bravo.

Found this gem recently and have been back 3 more times. Great ambiance, with fast, attentive service and great quality food. We ventured into Umi instead of going to our usual sushi spot in Lower Lonsdale which has far poorer service in comparison. My new favourite sushi restaurant, highly recommend!

Pork katsu comes with a mayo sauce without warning. Service was inattentive and lacklustre as well as the chopped scallop roll. Would not go out of my way to eat here.

Amazing food and service everytime. I have been eating sushi two to three time per week for the past twenty years in the lower mainland and would easily say this is one of the best!
