Sweet Obsession

This place has changed owners, it is NOT the same. Prices are out of control, they want 5.50 for a small croissant and 9$ for the tiniest piece of cake you've ever seen.
The staff is incapable of making a simple coffee or greeting you with a smile.
I complained about the price gouging and was told the price of sugar has doubled, IT HAS NOT.
No excuse for this price gouging and small portions. They used to be very busy and are now deservedly empty. Do not waste your time or money coming here, sweet obsessions, more like bitter transgressions.

It’s been a while since my last visit. The cake is less delicious and I found a hair while I’m eating the cake (I have different hair color, so it won’t be mine)
Im giving 2 stars because it used to be one of my fav spot for tiramisu.

Many dessert varieties, have tried a lot of stuff. My favourite is their pecan bar and several of their cookies. Their mini cakes are also excellent.

The presentation was nice. It looked good from far but far from good.
The buttercream was more like sugar icing, sweet, sweet, sweet.
I have a sweet tooth but this cake was way to sweet for me.
The top layer of cake was dry and tasted old, and the bottom layer was soaked, it was so wet with syrup that it was leaking out the bottom of the cake before it was cut.
It was in the fridge till 15 mins before cutting.
I don't think it was raspberry coulis, seem more like a raspberry spread with lots of seeds. It was such a disappointment for a 50th birthday cake.
No one could finish a1 inch slice. Adults or kids.
One star for presentation one star for the friendly server. Zero for quality.

Had scones here, along with the cinnamon roll. Both items were delicious. The New York cheesecake was also very well done. The flat white was more like a latte, but was still delicious.

Customer service is terrible here! The cake that I ordered was pretty expensive ($8 for a small cake) I was ok with that because I assumed the quality would be great. I was very disappointed. The flavour wasn’t there…it honestly just had a bad taste to it. Heavy, bitter, and unpleasant. Worst part was the reaction of the girls behind the counter. When I asked for a refund and explained my issue they were dismissive and snarky. The manager of the shop offered a new slice of cake instead of a refund which I appreciated, but when the girls brought the cake over they decided to slide an unfolded box across the counter and had quite an attitude. Honestly just an unpleasant slightly hostile experience.

Bought my first cake here 8 years ago for my daughter’s birthday. It was a fabulous lemon meringue cake with decadent layers of meringue and lemon custard between layers of moist cake. Have subsequently bought all my celebration cakes from them since. They custom made a massive version of the lemon meringue cake for my Mom’s 80th and it was a huge hit. Covid prevented us from returning to Vancouver for three years due to travel restrictions so we haven’t had many family celebrations until just recently. We celebrated my husband’s milestone birthday. He wanted the lemon cake for one party and a chocolate cake for another party. What a huge disappointment! The chocolate cake was 80% buttercream icing and it was bland! The lemon cake tasted like bog standard box cake mix and the lemon mousse layers tasted more like artificial lemon flavoured buttercream icing! This is NOT the original Sweet Obsession from years back. The “Since opening in 1993…” is highly misleading. The name of the shop may have been in existence since 1993 but the ownership has most definitely changed. The quality of cakes have gone for outstanding 10/10 to 2/10. Time to look for another bakery.

I ordered a white chocolate raspberry mousse cake through Uber eats and wanted a plaque on my cake. Although they informed me that special requests like this usually don’t happen instantly…they still helped me out the best way and accommodated my request. Pavneet specifically was so sweet and really helped me out.

Hadn’t went here since the start of covid. The scones were alright. Not as good as I remembered. Rather nice atmosphere.

First of all, customer service was excellent and the person who served us was very nice, but their cake… taste is the worst.

We ordered a bittersweet chocolate cake. They might as well called it overly sweet chocolate cake. The buttercream layer is so thick that it’s thicker than the sponge layers. I feel like I’m eating whole chunk of sugar/butter in my mouth. Very disappointed. We had to throw the rest away as it just feels so unhealthy, definitely not worth the $41.

Needing to pick up a cake to celebrate a birthday, we decided to come to Sweet Obsession and check what they had available. Our first option was the Mocha Torte, spongy and chocolatey. Unfortunately, sold out so we went with the Tiramisu cake instead. This was a good call, all the goodness of espresso and mascarpone cream! Looking at the variety of cakes, cheesecakes, cookies and other baked items, we had to stop for coffee and try something.settled for a cappuccino and a Dipped Shortbread Cookie. This was amazing, the chocolate/shortbread combination rich and flavourful! Next time, a Palmier? Or a Pain au Chocolat? Or an Apple Cranberry Crostata? Come to Sweet Obsession and sit down, take your time and have a coffee the way it's meant to be enjoyed: calmly. Service here was friendly, prices reasonable.

Great cakes and peaceful place to enjoy tea and desserts. Lost count of how many people came in to pick up pre-ordered cakes the short time we was there

The NY Cheese Cake was truly impressive with the raspberry sauce. I highly recommend trying it if you like cheese cakes. Definitely on the list for future cake options.

Picked up some goodies from Sweet Obsession on W 16th. They have some of the most unique desserts and baked pastries. Their NY cheesecake, orange lemon flan with bb compote, St. Honore are some of our favourites. Real miss their peach cobbler. I’ll diet tomorrow again!

I tried the hot chocolate and triple chocolate mousse here. Both tasted delicious. The place has very good ambience and tasty desserts. There were a huge collection of birthday cakes, muffins and pastries. Will love to come back again for trying the other desserts.

Sweet Obsession cakes and pastries are a pure delight.today we bought very tasty muffins…their wide variety of cakes make it hard to choose, so we purchase various items over time enjoying their quality taste, especially their chocolate cake.

My new addiction. The owners are fabulous and very friendly. Everything in their bakery has to be phenomenal. Love the cheese cake, lemon squares, shortbread cookies, fresh squeezed lemonade.
Absolutely my new go to for anything bakery related. They even sell fresh bread!

Delicious deserts every time. It is well worth the price. Highly recommend to anyone. I would have posted a pic, but was too eager to eat my piece.

Sweet Obsession? ️
It’s been 28 years since this store opened. It’s absolutely high-quality and one of the private desserts in my pocket. It’s a good place to relax here. It’s located on a shaded outdoor terrace. It attracts many passersby and cyclists. And many days of frequent visitors. The service is good, the pastries are of high quality, the coffee and tea are good, and the prices are reasonable. They also sell good bread, but they don't bake it themselves. They also provide catering services. According to my own experience, their cakes and drinks London fog are definitely one of my first choices. Below I must recommend cakes that are definitely worth trying

Nice sélection of cakes (black forest,), Cookies and biscuits (with butter, nuts, chocolate,) and pastries (croissants, pain au chocolat, apple pies,). Prices are on par with the neighborhood. Good overall quality. Will go back

One of the best bakeries in Vancouver. Top 3 for sure (Italia, then Moore's). These folks clearly care about their business. Never a bad meal or treat from Sweet Obsession. My family loves it here.

The cakes looks good but taste below average. The sponge cake is not moist at all. I think sponge cake from Chinese bakery is more moist than the cake you can find here.

Almond Breton Cookies: Having lived in Brittany for few years I was looking forward to this treat!
Big disappointment. I will not comment on the texture of the cookie as interpretations are always different, but, a common mistake of young or aspiring pastry chefs if that they put in too much extract (In this case Almond) to the point that it is in-edible!
I tried one, and threw the rest away.way too much almond extract.
Normally I like what Sweet Obsession makes, but not these ones.

This was my first time at Sweet Obsession, the service and quality of the cake was amazing!
The staff was lovely and helpful when it came to picking a cake! I recommend coming here and trying their coconut cake it was UNREAL.

The chocolate-mocha cake is an Absolute-MUST. It has beautiful layers inside (yummy, sophisticated flavour, and not too sweet), coated with a rich dark chocolate glaze on top that is almost too beautiful to dig into.
If you want a high-quality cake that tastes lovely and looks gorgeous, this is the place for you!

Pastries always look overcooked or burnt for my taste. Last two cakes I got from here for family birthdays were very disappointing. I don't think I can justify any more future visits to this bakery from my experiences.

One of the local favourites serving quality dessert all year round. The desserts are beautifully made, with their triple chocolate cake being the most recommended flavour.
The also sell home made jams which are reasonably priced. You can also find many festival desserts like, stollen or Yule logs here. And if you’re going to attend a party, bringing their cake will definitely impress everyone.

So disappointed. We have been ordering cakes from this Vancouver location for years. The cakes are wonderful! Previously we have had excellent service. This time the service was horrible. Aside from my families normal frequent visits, we traditionally phone order a cake for my sister's birthday and Christmas. We pay via credit since we are out of province, and my sister would pick it up since she is local. This most previous order, the 2 women we spoke to over the phone were abrupt and unpleasante. After we gave the inscription for the cake and credit card info, they abruptly hung up. We had to call back to confirm the total and what we were getting. When my sister went to pick up her cake, she was told they couldn't find the order. She had to wait for a new cake. They said they would give her a complimentary cake. However it is not complimentary because we paid for it! They did give a bigger size to compensate for the error. But the inscription we gave them over the phone was absent. We do not wish to go through that experience again. Disappointed we may have lost our go to sweet spot.

A pleasant experience to be had here for anyone interested in good quality cakes. The staff was more than willing to show slices of the cake variety so as to make a decision easier. The cake I purchased was a hit, we all could agree to the quality of ingredients. Very convenient hours of operation and ready made cakes is a fantastic recipe. Sweet Obsession really helped make the day special.

I can't speak to the cafe service as we always just pick up, but the cakes and cookies are amazing. Was tempted by and got a lemon danish the other day and it was amazing! Definitely big enough to share. Everything tastes wonderful!

I have been going to this place for almost 10 years. When I went their last week I received for rude service. It was a busy Saturday afternoon and i waited patiently while the workers were dealing with the rush and after the rush was over and nobody else was in line or needed to be served I was expecting to get served at my table but instead the two women at the back were chit chatting and having a little party of their own. I tried to look over to get there attention but they were too busy having a delightful conversation of their own. When I got up to leave it was only then someone approached me with the menu. I will never come back to this establishment again. I can't blame the two girls it is the owners fault for not caring about the service or their own establishment. Shame on you!

I have very mixed feelings about this shop. They make some of the BEST baking I have ever tasted, but their prices are so high that I rarely visit. It feels like someone has gone crazy when they serve a Sweet Obsession item for dessert, because it is THAT expensive. I know that handmade and quality ingredients costs. It just means that I don’t choose to shop there as often as I would like to.

I bought a cake for a special birthday. I purchased the Bittersweet Chocolate Buttercream. The filling/icing was way too much and the whole cake was overly sweet. The biggest problem was how expensive it was. It looked nice, but the taste was similar to supermarket cake. Supermarket taste with boutique bakery prices - there are much better bakeries around.

A great place to have an assortment of individual slices of lux cake or pastries, if they were a bit cheaper per piece I'd splurge a lot more often c:

Delicious and a reasonable price. We were there when they opened and they gave us free end slices of a pastry as a sample.

Always a delight, and the staff are so friendly, even when you go near closing, and choose to dine in

Honestly the workers in the store where very rude and impolite. The people did nothing and the person at the cashier was a total jerk!
