修 SYU Japanese Cuisine & Sushi Bar

Quiet lunch place, pretty deco. Food was okay. Nothing memorable for me.
Underground parking on the other side of the street, very inconvenience. But walking distance from oval.

We only can go occasional … maybe birthday, anniversary or something special. Syu is not casual restaurant.
However, can find same level (less price) Japanese restaurants.
Vancouver has bunch of nice JP restaurants and competition.

All Food are just okay, not big impressed, I feel bit pricy. Except for Uni is very fresh, meted in my month. They do not have wasabi in sushi roll. Is this common in fancy JP restaurant at Vancouver?

The food was good. However, that was about the only good thing I can say about this place.

Service was bad, really bad. And it wasn’t just the waitresses.

We had 7 people, 3 of which were kids. The food took a long time to come out so the kids were starving.

The toromachi tartare (starter) came out first. The tempura udon bowls came out after almost ~20 mins. We asked for the small bowls for the kids to share and they disappeared for another 10 mins (?). When we asked again, the waitress said the kitchen wasn’t done washing them (? !? !)

Our bowls didnt come out until 10 mins later. By that time my kids have eaten most of the tempura so it was just the noodle soup left.

What followed was just more wait after each dish. Our sashimi came LAST and by that time, we honestly just wanted to leave.

The whole experience was disjointed. We all felt the food was decent, some dishes were good but not worth the price. We always had to ask for something, and I never had my tea. Despite everyone else having their drinks.

Definitely wouldn’t come back. There are better Japanese restaurants in the area now, and if that’s not enough, I’ll just drive to Vancouver.

The sashimi was fresh and delicious! Service was excellent and we enjoyed the atmosphere as well.

Came in with the whole family with an infant in tow and had a a wonderful experience. The fish was very fresh and the portions were generous. Our server was fast and attentive.

The food is really nice and fresh. The staff are all super friendly and nice. Should definitely try this place you haven’t:)

We came here for lunch menu and ordered onigiri set and chirashi set. The presentation was pretty nice and they were both delicious. Portion wise, it was pretty filling. Will definitely come back for trying more menus.

I am so impressed with the service and food from Syu: they have fresh fish from Japan three times a week, I esp.love sashimi - YUMMY!

We were lured here because of a foodie influencers Instagram post but we feel we were tricked! This place is way over priced, service is terrible, and food portion is small. We ordered the wagyu sukiyaki - the beef tasted good, but it’s literally just soy sauce soup, some veggies, 4 slices of beef and a bowl of rice! For $58 that is a rip off. The servers didn’t come to check up on us, or refill our drinks until we had to ask for it. Their sashimi salad portion is also abysmal, you get 6 super little thin slices of sashimi with a little bed of garden greens for $30… Have you ever left a restaurant feeling like you just wasted money for no good reason? Well that’s what we felt like. I really wouldn’t recommend this place.

Perhaps, we also may have just ordered the wrong dishes…

The food was excellent but a bit pricey. You pay what you get. Fresh fish from Japan. If you order the whole fish, you get to choose sashimi, sushi, or half and half. They have a bunch of specialty dishes on their menu that you don't see on a typical Japanese restaurant.

Service & food level doesn't match price level. With the same $ you can get something better else where.

Fantastic service and the food was excellent! Fish on the nigiri came from Japan and it literally melts in your mouth. First time to try Uni Bomb, all I can say is Oishii! Pricey but good quality. I would definitely recommend this place.

This restaurant brings the taste of Japan close your home. It was like I was having the same sushi and sashimi as I had when I was in Japan. Food is good. Service is good as well but orders could take awhile to come out.
