Tacofino Taco Bar

Cmon, you haven't been to Gastowns own Tacofino Taco Bar. What have you been doing, trendy, clean, delicious food and always friendly staff. A favorite place to hit when down here and want a beer and taco.

Food was amazing, as usual. Most servers were great except the one who took our order. He was rushing us from the beginning. Coming back to our table every 2 minutes and we would say we needed more time and then he'd return super quick again. So after we told him what we wanted he looked at us and said "just so you know, that's a lot of food you're ordering". Well damn. I've never been food shamed by my server before. That was unpleasant. And then he never tended to us again. The other servers brought us our food and checked in on us and they were great. But like.he was super rude to us. And yes there were mouse traps out in the dinning hall under the tables but like.idk. The food was amazing for us. Also the sangria was really good too. It was just that server that bothered me. I would return but just hope he's not working.

The worst location of Tacofino in Van ever. To start with, my favourite Mexican place is Tacofino of all the other options, however this specific location failed to impress or even satisfy me. First things first, who had the brilliant idea to separate the taco and the burrito bar? Because it sounds like a big bad business decision. We came in as six and after we decided on what we would eat, the waiter told us that the taco bar and the burrito bar are separated and we cannot take-out burritos from literally the bar across the hall and come back to sit in. Burrito bar doesn’t take six people and we ultimately had to leave. Secondary problem, tables are not clean. The [supposed] managers were sitting and chatting and they gave us the table as there were no other table that could hold six people at the time. And even after getting the menu and the water, our table was dirty and none of the servers cared to wipe it. The waitress had an attitude and we were welcomed with an attitude. I don’t think I’ll ever come back and I hope whoever’s in charge of this location to come to their senses.

Very happy with my ceviche and Taco Al Pastor, my friend had the Oyster Mushroom and the Eggplant Tacos. There are so many delicious menu options and something for all kinds of dietary restrictions. We ate inside, there is a lot of room in the back but there is also a take-out bar at the front. Great service from Djen

They overcharged us (added shots of tequila from another table) and will not give a refund. So we paid $83 for a total of 5 tacos. The food was okay but NOT $83 good. We have called and they promise to "look into it" to no avail. Apparently once the day is over they can no longer process refunds.

Edit: Oct 9th, We emailed per the restaurant's request. We were put in touch with the customer service person from the franchise Jenny who was helpful and kindly refunded us the total meal. I consider this a redemption by the brand, but we still would not return to this location in the future as their managers were the ones we were unable to reach.

Edit: this happened Sept 10,2023. We have been calling and calling since then. The manager is always conveniently 'not available' after the first time we chatted. CONTRARY to the business reply below saying they will take this seriously they have not taken any steps to do so.

All in all a nice restaurant with a little room for perfection, especially regarding pricing/quality&size ratio of the taccos

The waitress was very kind and quick on his feet. Must recommend the nachos for $20, since it tasted like pizza! There was an enormous amount of toppings and perfect fit of the sauce. Otherwise, the taco was pretty small, but fair for the price. However, the ingredients were very fresh and clean in this eatery.

It was alright, nothing really amazed me.
I had the mint collins and the lamb birria.
The birria consommé was good, but the lamb was dry and lacked taste on its own.

The tacos here were great portions and tasty. Staff was friendly. My only complaint was that there was a ladder dropping down from the ceiling right in front of the bathrooms the whole time we were there. It made it very difficult to get in.

This place is horrible. I would not go back there if you are a poc. Our waitress had an attitude for zero reason, deliberately huffed and puffed and when I asked her what her issue was, she then told me that she was in the spectrum. She magically didn't show any signs after this point. There were multiple mice running around our feet while dining. They were clearing the food that I had just ordered to remove it from the table with out asking or using judgment. So we go to leave and they send in the enforcer to take payment. Oops. I forgot to mention, in our group of three they served 2 of 3 of us family style meanwhile we said its 3 separate bills. So when I asked why this is being done, as I looked around to all the wypipo for reference she changed to the story and this is how tge chef like to serve it. Food was great, staff was garbage. Take your $$ elsewhere

Fish tacos were amazing! Recommended starting with the guacamole, the cilantro is seasoned so well!

Good tortilla soup, pork al pastor taco is nice.
Crispy chicken taco is tasteless, all you can taste is oil from frying. Malheureusement des tortillas de blé. Les portions ne sont pas très généreuses pour le prix. The place itself is cool and cozy.

Ordered and paid online. Order didn't get through and had to wait outside an additional 15 minutes. Why pre pay?

It’s busy during the weekends so try checking them out during weekdays around noon. The food are good and it’s really affordable too!

Cool, trendy atmosphere and friendly service. The portions of food were great, and the eggplant taco absolutely blew me away. Eggplant can be tricky to master, especially in texture - vego or not this is a MUST TRY TACO!

My lord, I though they had nothing for me as a vegetarian. Then they came out with the Vegan Chorizo Burrito and I now feel like I'm cheating on my girlfriend. It's incredible. Give the chefs a raise!

Staff was super nice and the food was really good! I ordered the cauliflower burrito as a bowl and it was delicious! Margaritas were also amazing but strong so you’ve been warned:)

Visited on a recommendation from a friend. With its perfect ambience, food, and staff Tacofino has earned its high reviews and w-o-m recommendations. Great selection of tacos. Good for a night out in Vancouver.

I lived in Austin, TX for years and love Mexican food. This place was spot on and very accommodating to gluten and dairy allergies!

Happened to be walking by and smelled their delicious tacos. So I decided to give it a try and I did not regret it. I ordered their eggplant taco and it was so fresh and crunchy and so so so delicious! LOVE!

It was my first visit since Covid and they did not disappoint. They have several locations along with their food trucks. We had a late lunch at their Taco Bar in the heart of Gastown. There’s a good menu selection with starters, main taco selections and a couple of desserts. Don’t forget their happy hour between 3 – 5 pm for drink and plate specials. I had my go-to, fish taco & Pork El Pastor (with pineapple). The pork meat was slightly overcooked making it chewy. Go for it if you love bacon! The others ordered the wings (a bit salty), steak taco and the fried chicken taco. They all enjoyed their tacos.

Note that this location only offers tacos. We also tried the churros which were slightly over fried. A nice touch with the caramel dipping sauce adding some gooeyness and lip smacking taste to end our meal.

First stop in Vancouver after our flight. We are used to tacos in Toronto (very small portions and limited toppings). Tacofino did not disappoint! Definitely over ordered. The portions are huge! We had the guac and chips (guac was delicious), the “hot sauces” weren’t very spicy, but super flavourful. We tried the fish tacos, chorizo, schnitzel (wasn’t a fan at first, but the flavours grew on me) and the eggplant (recommended by our server). Jalapeño margarita had a nice bite to it and would order the Paloma again. Service was very friendly. Atmosphere is perfect: cool and trendy. We will definitely be back.

How about an apology? They screwed up on our order and what I got was a "we'll refund it online. "
And it was the manager I spoke to. Tells you a lot about the service. I called, an employee answered, she asked the cook while I was on the line about the order, then put the manager on. No apology about the mistake. You get better service at McDonald's.

Tacos were very delicious, we ordered 6 kinds and the fish, chorizo and steak were the best. The lime margarita was okay.

Great service, affordable tacos, normal person may be satisfied with 2, prompt service, nice servers; fish tacos are a must.

The food and the people are amazing! The selection of meats were fresh and delicious everything was full of flavor and probably one of my best food taco experiences! The portions were generous and the price was fair considering 2 people can get full off one plate. Average price per plate (tacos, rice beans) $11.00. Fiesta fries $11.00.

Tacofino is superb and I would recommend anyone go here with friends of on a date. Tacos are hearty and jam-packed with flavour. I especially recommend their nacos to start.

Came to the gastown location after a long time and im sorry to say the tacos very much dissapointed from a couple of years ago. I couldnt finish the steak taco which has never happened to me before. The meat was super chewy, bland, full of mayo. So sad!

Let's be honest. The guacamole is great. The tacos are very expensive but tasty. This would be five stars if they had more reasonable prices but hey, rent in Vancouver is ridiculously high. I spent about $30.00 today but left hungry.

I have been a tacofino fanboy since the time I used to live in Tofino and eat from the actual tacofino food truck itself. I have also eaten at the gastown burrito bar many many times.

But over the years I feel the quality has just gone southhill. Those juice tender fish tacos and crispy chicken burritos have now turned into soggy, dry and over fried mess loaded with all the extra fufu. I ordered crispy chicken tacos and fish tacos on a busy Saturday night but what I got was a nothing short of nightmare. Chicken was burnt to death and fish was super dry.

Tacos are delicious. I tried the fish, chicken and eggplant. They all have different combinations of garniture. Great for a quick take out.

Lovely patio, great service and the best Tacos ever! Enjoyed the fish and crispy chicken Tacos.

Everytime I come to Vancouver i pay a visit here- specifically to this one. I get their fish burrito and it’s SPLENDID. Staff are super friendly, service is quick. There is the option to dine in on one side and take out on the other (with stools or a patio for a more chill setting)
I love this place and it’s no wonder why they have a handful of locations across BC. Can’t wait to be back again!

Tacofino offers great food but the portions are slightly small. The Gastown location is very clean and modern. Friendly staff. Always a must for me.

Used to have the best vegan burrito in the city, now it’s quite unimaginative and lacks quality. Disappointing

I got fish tacos, chicken, burrito and chip and guac. Food was average compared to the price. Service was that the girl taking my order was just not interested, maybe she had a long day or something. Asked for washroom access no clear response, asked for my burrito to be cut in half and denied. I think mainstream options like chipotle or taco bell are better then.

Not a very traditional taco place but superior food for sure! The Crispy chicken Tacos are my fav as you can see! If you are a fan of Crispy Chicken then it will be exactly how you’d expect the world’s crispiest tacos to be, crunchy on the outside and juicy and soft on the inside, plus the carrot salad and coriander on top makes it what I think are one of the best crispy chicken taco places in Vancouver. I also tried the pork one with pineapple on a different day, has a very distinct curry like flavour so if you’d like to mix it up do try that as well. Drinks are expensive/overpriced but really tasty and well thought of so it goes with the food. Anyhoo, a great place to hangout (after COVID) or even swing by for a takeout. Cheers!

PS: They also have burritos but I never had the will to try it as I don’t think I can betray their tacos ever.

Amazing tacos! We had the chips & guac with 1 chicken, 1 fish, & 2 steak tacos.all phenomenal made with the freshest ingredients; perfect amt of food for 2
& well priced.we felt full/satisfied but not overloaded/stuffed - its a hip little joint.update: ive tried almost all of the tacos.chorizo, mushroom & corn, braised lamb.all AMAZING.

Came for a few tacos with my husband and the waitress in the brown overalls made the biggest scene I have ever experienced in my life. She yelled at us when we first walked in and then continued to treat us poorly once we asked to switch to a booth. It is the number one worst service I’ve ever received in a restaurant.

Their fish tacos are fresh and filling! Couldn't even finish their pork ribs. The Margherita was just as fresh as it was also filling:)

Visited this spot for take out! I ordered a fish taco and fried chicken taco, quesadilla and Diablo cookie! Tacos were good, and the cookie definitely has a nice twist to it! Mixing chocolate and chilli!

I bought the octopus tostada and nachos. The octopus had a nice texture but I don’t really like the taste of it.maybe I’m not used to it. The nachos on the other hand were disappointing when compared to other locations, sooo salty and kinda stale and the guacamole was not fresh (sour tasting) did not fufill my nacho craving. We went during peak dinner time on Sunday 7pm~ can’t really think of a reason for the reduction in quality.

Do not have warm water. Do not substitute meat in the tacos. Have no celiac options. Waitress seemed like she didn't want to be there. Tacos were oily.

Absolutely lovely service and safe protocol on arrival. The sweetest staff and patience you are made to feel at ease if dining alone. You can’t go wrong with what you choose on the menu it’s the freshest flavours and ingredients to boot. It’s definitely a place to come down and dine in I will be back for sure! Don’t miss the Mezcal margs and the octopus tostadas was to die for! Vegan opt for the eggplant taco! Gracias

The best tacos I've had in Vancouver so far. But the location is a bit weird. You have to walk past the burrito sale entrance and go into the restaurant and ask to be seated there if you want tacos. It's also very loud in here so don't expect to be able to have a conversation with your friends. Burritos are great too but a bit small.

Decent Tex-Mex food. I couldn’t eat inside with my friend because I ordered a burrito at the front, even though they didn’t warn me of that, so I had to leave. I won’t be going back.

The Nachos here are THE BEST. The staff was also very friendly and we did not have to wait long to get a table. I highly recommend!

Happy hour is a great deal, you get a large quantity of nachos which are tasty and presented really well too. They offer a good selection of beer, and house a large well stocked bar. The place looks pretty funky, and features stylish ambient lighting and creative design

Great place for tacos and margaritas. Highly recommend the watermelon margarita when it's in season.

Al pastor isn't shredded so I usually skip that one. Instead recommend crispy chicken, fish and lamb when it's on the menu. Lamb birria soup is also good on a chilly day.

Pro tip, order 1-2 tacos at a time because they come all at once so you have to eat them quickly before they get cold

They have good burrito.i love their chicken burrito.sometimes if im feeling zesty, i ask them to swap the guac for cheese.
