Takis' Taverna

A lovely dinner on our first and only night of snow in Vancouver. Very welcoming environment to come into out of the cold, great service, and delicious meals of the salmon and the chicken souvlakia. (Also, an easy place to eat at if you’re vegetarian or pescatarian.)

As my wife was stuck in St Paul’s hospital I was on the hunt for a good lunch for my birthday. The hospital food was sorely lacking in flavor and so I tried out Takis as we were disappointed by Stephos take-out years ago. The quality of the Athenian Chicken and the Moussaka was very good and my wife was pleased with our choices. We recommended Takis to friends who came to visit and also bought the same order to give to our closest friends and also the same order for our Godson on his birthday. All of our friends were delighted by the food! Thumbs up from everyone!

Authentic Greek cuisine! Recommendation. A variety of vegetarian dishes are also available.

Best most accommodating staff EVER! So so so sweet and let us smash plates for our friends birthday. Best food best atmosphere affordable just all around epic staff. Recommend to anyone looking for amazing Greek food!

I very seldom write restaurant reviews but my experience at Takis deserves special mention. I picked up the Vegetable Moussaka Dinner to go and it was truly unbelievable. The moussaka was flavourful and full of eggplant, carrots, zucchini and red bell pepper. The portion was huge - it could easily serve two for dinner. It was accompanied by equally delicious Greek salad, lemon potatoes, rice, and grilled pita. The service was very friendly.

This is my favourite Greek restaurant. We drove up all the way from Richmond to enjoy my Devine calamari and chicken souvlaki dinner which is very tasty with excellent sized portions.

We have the same waitress each time providing us excellent service.

What a deception!
Every time we come to Vancouver we come here. Maybe the owners changed?
Greek salad with grated feta cheese? … what? ! Hardly any olives, hardly no red onion.
Burned spanakopita…
Dolmathes with sauce on it? !? !
Tzatziki in plastic cups…
Calamari with way too fried.

The new owners change the quality of the ingredients, lower qualiry. Takes is not good anymore, it is a shame, this new owner explote the workers.

We were recommended this Greek restaurant so we were very excited to go there. Unfortunately they didn’t live up to our expectations. The service was mediocre at best, and the food wasn’t much better.

The food here is amazing. Everything we ordered came fast and tasted gorgeous. Large meal sizes too so come hungry!

Excellent restaurant with delicious dishes, good big portions, Greek beer and wine and gorgeous interiors. The staff is very kind and polite. Loved the experience.

Best Greek place, big portions, friendly staff, great selection. Got chicken souvlaki, grilled octopus appetizer and sizzling saganaki appetizer. Appetizers came with pita bread. Everything was so good! Big fan of Greek food and this place is the best! Definitely coming back.

Do not order from here. Terribly disappointing.

Pita bread: burnt.

Carrots are grandma-level mush. Only seasoning is butter.

Overcooked bland rice. Tastes like nothing.

The spanikopita was wrapped in tin foil & placed directly in pool of tzatziki.

It just got worse when unwrapped: the soggy salty spanikopita tastes like a 3 day old item under the warming lights at 7 Eleven.

The potatoes, normally what can so often be one of the most savory parts of a Greek dish, were painfully undercooked and bland.

The Greek salad was passable, so there's that.

Review is from takeaway. Good flavours but 1/4 potatoes were undercooked. Spanakopita was a bit small for the price. Moussaka was my partner’s favourite dish from here.

First time here and what a treat. From the pan grilled squid to the lamb shank and everything in between. So good. Service was very attentive thank you.

For the the price they charge, you’d think they could hire more staff. Yesterday evening (a Friday) they had only ONE waitress doing practically all the work from seating guests to taking orders, clearing tables, and taking payments. There was one other worker in the dining room, but she didn’t do anything other than a trip to a couple of tables to pour water. I was confused why she was even there. I felt bad for our/everyone’s waitress who despite being so busy still managed to check in on us! If you’re reading this - you’re management material and too good for them!

Do the poor waitress a favour by checking to see if she’s alone before going in to dine. Don’t be fooled by the thin woman in the back by the till. I think she’s just there to boss the waitress around.

Food wise, it was ok. My dish wasn’t bad. I want to go back and try the grilled calamari dinner, but not sure if I will considering how bad I felt for the overworked waitress.

Edited to add: the restaurant was quite dingy and smelled oily. You will smell restaurant oily when you leave.

Also, apparently it’s under new ownership, so don’t rely on reviews older than a couple years old.

I’ve eaten food from here the last two days. First time I felt like a Greek salad and some tsaziki, I got great service dining in and the food was super fresh. Was craving more Greek today and ordered for delivery, huge portions and again so tasty and fresh! Will keep coming back for sure!

I have been here a few times when the next door greek restaurant which is bigger is full. And let me tell you, it's the same food! No difference. The advantage of this small place is that there is always at least one table to sit right away. So I would really recommend this one!

Dee's service was excellent managing a fairly complicated order from table of 6. Lamb entrees were delicious. Caesar was a bit unbalanced. Calamari apps were a bit overdone. Overall a good restaurant.

The food was excellent. The service was wonderful. The only issue is parking, but that is pretty typical for Vancouver.

Amazing food! I had the grilled calamari with a side green salad and lemon potatoes and everything tasted incredible. Service was really pretty slow given that they weren’t very busy, but she was nice and apologetic.

Outstanding! Perfect souvlaki, top notch service, very decent prices. The door alarm beeping every 5 seconds was annoying, but still worth it!

Wow! I can't believe I have lived in the neighborhood for 4 years, and this was the first time trying Takis'. In a word.fantastic! I got the large chicken souvlaki, and I have lunch for tomorrow. Tmi had forgotten what really good Greek food tastes like. I will definitely be back!

Been here a few times. Solid Greek Food. Had the Lamb Souvlaki as well as the pork. Very good flavor with the rice pilaf and seasoned carrots. Very tasty. Meat grilled to satisfaction. Better quality food than the well known place up the street.

Charming atmosphere.

Yum! Yum! Yum! Excellent portions and well packaged for take out. Very fresh. Some of the best Greek food in town. Lamb Shank was delicious.

Was there a few weeks ago.
Food portions are good, taste nice. Greek salad was a joke - all veg cut in different sizes.
It was quiet afternoon inside (before indoor sitting closure), could constantly hear the cook burping from he kitchen.not the best experience.seemed like the owner/manager was sitting there and doesn't care.

The grilled calamari was burnt and could not finish it.

The souvlaki in pita meal had excellent flavour. Was also very happy with the portion size. Will be back.

The food was fantastic! We've been looking for a Greek restaurant to frequent since moving downtown and were not disappointed at all with Takis. We ordered off of Skip the Dishes, and there was a minor issue with the order (missing item), and we were blown away at the kindness and efficiency of the staff member who personally delivered the missing items to us. Totally unexpected and much appreciated! We'll definitely be back.:)

It's been our 3rd time and it's always excellent service. The server always help us out especially with our toddler and give us a better spot to sit. Food is good and a lot of servings. We feel safe and good eating at Taki's.

Deeeeeelicious food. It took a while to get our Pick-Up order, but it was also very busy with 1 Lady taking care of everything. She did Great, Food was Perfectly Cooked. Calamari was very tender, and the Lamb was stunning.

We had a great experience at takis taverna last night with my family. Food was absolutely delicious, portions were really big and service was excellent. I would highly recommend this place to all if my frinds and colleagues. Looking forward to the next visit!

One of my favourite stops in downtown, every time I’m in Vancouver Taki’s is a must. Like to try something new each time and have never been disappointed yet. Grilled calamari is a must try. Health and fresh food with authentic Greek taste. Great atmosphere, great staff and customer service.

I have been coming to Takis Taverna for years! Absolutely LOVE their food and service. 11/10 will recommend for amazing Greek food!

Always always reliable and tasty Greek food. Their kleftiko (roast lamb) is my personal favourite and while potions enough for 2 servings

The woman running this restaurant is so rude! It was a strange experience! A dishwasher came to greet us at the door,! It looks like the same woman who serves us was also cooking our food!? ! Also looks like it’s not a Greek restaurant anymore. Very confusing and weird experience. Too bad! This used to be a popular and good quality spot in the west end. Not anymore!

This horrible Service was before Covid, we did come back to try again, and it was still not the same! We miss the original Greek owner, Takis and his staff! What used to be such a fun, authentic Greek Restaurant is no longer. Will not return again.

Supporting the Davie Community since it opened. One of the Best Roast and Lamb shanks. I would recommend their creme caramel or Ekmek for dessert. Seafood is always fresh especially their Calamari Squid.

Doesn't matter who the owner is they serve Greek food, they kept it Greek that's what is all about!

Ordered 2 custard caramel and it wasn't fresh. It was stale. Would be great if you can make fresh ones for your customers. Very disappointed!

First time eating at this place. It was too busy for lunch take out. There was only 1 couple dinning in. The tasted good until I ate something tough and chewy. Unfortunately, just my luck it was a piece of plastic cooked with the tomato sauce that was in top of the lamb shank. Plastic in food happens to me more than I would like but at least the flavor of everything else was good.

Even on a busy Saturday, Takis was able to deliver great food and service! I had the salmon platter, it left me full but wanting to try more. An easy 5 stars, will be coming back again for some great Greek food in Vancouver.

This used to be my favorite Greek restaurant. I have been coming here for 25 years. Not sure if the ownership has changed, as I did not recognize any of the current staff. The food was still good but the service was heinous. We waited 40 minutes for our appetizers (which all came out at once) and we were 1 of 3 tables in the place. We had to clear our own table before our main arrived and no thought or care was displayed by any staff. The server was curt and rude when we inquired about the holdup. Only when it came time to pay was she all smiles and offered us 2 shots and to apologise about the slow service. I'm so disappointed that this Vancouver gem has gone so downhill. Out of all the great restaurants that this city has to offer, I feel I wasted a birthday dinner coming here last night.

Always have a good experience here. The wait staff is great and are very attentive but do not interrupt your meal. Food is always cooked to perfection and the service impeccable. Also very glad they are taking this pandemic seriously and have their staff wearing proper masks. Big portions and delicious seafood. For sure we will come again.

Authentic greek food, for a second felt like we were in Greece, amazing service, and food. I would recommend sharing all the dishes, if you want to get the full experience. Looking forward visiting again.

A really cozy spot on a rainy evening. I like the lamb & the salmon.plus the fact that the hummus is not too garlicky:).

Large portions of excellently seasoned roast lamb. Needed a nap after finishing the rice, potatoes, bread and salad that came with it. Would challenge again.

Had an awesome experience at Takis. Hands down best Greek food and great service too! Portions sizes are so generous and i always have enough for lunch the next day.

We moved from Vancouver 5 years ago but I have been Dining here for over 20 years. To my surprise when I brought some friends here last week for dinner NOTHING has changed! The food was amazing 2 of us had Roast Lamb and my other friend had Prawn Souvlaki. The service was fast and friendly. This is and has always been my go to spot for Greek.

We are from kamloops and we thought we would try this greek restaurant since we where in Vancouver. There was four of us and will never eat there again. The food was blah. Rice had no taste, carrots were very soft and Greek salad was horrible. Customer service could have been better. So disappointed.

Been this place twice, have special memory of this place. The first time I been there was 2 yrs ago, impressed by the big portion of the dish, and the dark romantic environment. I went back here on Dec24,2019 for a Xmas dinner with family. Everyone love how it taste and impressed by the tasty cheese. Btw they offer free bread as a start dish, very yummy.

Don't order take out, price gouging

5 dollar surcharge on every item when you order pick up, not delivery!

I pointed this out when i was looking at the menu waiting and the owner refused to fix it.

I ordered online via their website, not a 3rd party app. Souvlaki 21.95,16.95 inside.

Hands down best grilled Calamari I've had in town, and I consider myself very picky with Calamari! Will not disappoint.
All the Lamb has been fantastic also.
Small, cozy, quiet place, great for a date or intimate meal.

Had a prawn souvlaki. Prawns were over done. Greek salad was not tasty at all. Went to washroom before leaving. Kitchen was dirty and gross and tomatoes were sitting outside bathroom door. Not worth the money.

Tasty lamb dish and reasonble price, those three dishes are just cost around 60 dollars include taxes and tips.

Absolutely terrible experience via DoorDash. Food arrived looking like it had been thrown around. It was cold and missing several items. Ordered the souvlaki with the additional 3$ large option. It arrived with less food than when I have ordered the regular size in the past. Not even a full potato and barely any rice. Ordered an extra Greek salad that I did not receive and also missing an extra satziki. Wouldn’t order from here again.

Terrible service, cold reheated food at every visit! We were 3 people ordering one dish each. They come with 2 plates, forgetting the third one! This happened twice! They we waited 20 minutes for the third plate to finally arrive, and our dinner got cold. They took it and reheated it in the microwave. Terrible service, mediocre food, not worth it!

The best VEGETARIAN MOUSSAKA you will ever have! Very well served and amazing flavours. Also, the haloumi cheese is a must!

Based on a Skip the Dishes experience, they got the order wrong. We had to call them multiple times to try and fix the issue to by the end get "well what do you want me to do about it? ". I understand it could be a Skip the Dishes issue, but the way it was handled was awful and the customer service gets a 0 from me. The spanakopita that we didnt even order was salty.
