We waited forever for someone to bring water to the table. Ordered dinner and my wife asked for a ceased salad instead of a Greek salad and go a Greek salad. Had to ask for our drinks that we ordered that was suppose to come with dinner. The calamari didn’t have any flavor. Wont be going back
Unfortunately I didn’t like the chicken Slovakia plate I had my aunt wasn’t a big fan either. The chicken was very dry … the Cesar salad and the potato are delicious.
We came here before seeing a play about Viola Desmond. If you don't know who that is, you should learn about her and why she's on our $10 Bill.
Anyhoo, this place has a view. A pretty amazing view, of the New West riverfront.
"But Ainsley. ", you mumble through a mouthful of Quaker Oat Bran cereal, ". It's the New West waterfront.how amazing could it be? ".
Ok, #1: Finish your food, no one wants to hear your Kermit The Frog voice while being pelted with chewed remnants of your breakfast. It's gross.
#2: You are high up above the shoreline and can see east down the river. Don't be a putz, sitting there with milk dribbling down your chin, trying to put up a weak argument. Just go see it for yourself and then decide.
The food here was great! Small menu with a rotating dessert, the way all great menus are. Recommendations include the hummus, the roast lamb, the souvlaki (I had lamb but they all looked really good), the pork ribs, the ekmek, and the bougatsa (although I think that was the rotating special dessert).
Staff were very friendly and they finagled us into a table with a great view (as mentioned above). Also, we were out well before our curtain time at the theatre.
5 well deserved stars.
You need to go here.
Now clean up and get dressed, or you're going to be late for work again.
Amazing experience, we knew once we had to be sat at the bar that we chose a great place to eat because this place was PACKED. My partner and I both got lamb and loved it, easily the best I've ever had. Plates were large but the food was so well cooked that we ate all of it without any issues, and not even a hint of indigestion or heartburn- good food sits great. Bartender was so friendly and great to speak to in-between her making drinks for a packed restaurant. It was a fantastic experience. I do recommend a reservation on a Saturday night however, we were remarkably lucky to receive even bar seating at the time we walked in. Well worth the reservation however. 10/10.
This authentic Greek restaurant has been an icon in New Westminster for ages. Located right on Columbia street, it’s easy to find. Look for their name in bright blue lights. If you’re celebrating a special occasion or have out of town visitors, reserve a table by the window. Here you will get a beautiful view of the Fraser River.
They were busy on the weekend which took a little longer for our food to arrive. It was worth the wait. They had a ‘features’ menu and I highly recommend ordering the Tarama Dip which is red caviar served with pita bread. Unusual and tasty. We ordered the moussaka, vegetarian moussaka, roasted lamb, & lamb chops. All entrees came with rice, roast potatoes, Greek salad, pita & tzatziki. Everyone loved their selections. Flavourful, fresh, and a decent portion.
Great value! Our server was friendly Parking can be a bit of a challenge. Get there early! If you enjoy Greek food, this is the place!
We've been trying out various Greek restaurants in the lower mainland for 15 years, but this is the first time we tried Taverna Greka. It is now #2 on our list of favourites! Food was delicious (we both got souvlaki), view/location of the water is a nice setting, interior decor is a fun atmosphere (especially the lit bar), and the service was wonderful. Recommended by two picky Greek food eaters:)
This place is always constant with amazing food and service and the view is awesome. Even thou for the first time they ran out of puffy pita and served us the thin style it was still amazing.
First time I went and it won't be my last time. So good. The service was top notch. They actually had vegetarian moussaka.it was very good! The potatoes yum! You could actually taste the lemon as you should with lemon Greek potatoes! I can't wait to go back.
The food here is excellent! Easily some of the best Greek food I’ve had, and a good sized menu to choose from (vegetarian options included). I did find the take-out portions to be small for the price, but this could be over-looked for the quality of the food.
I'm definitely not an expert on Greek food, but this was definitely among the best I've had, on par with what I was finding in Europe! I came here as a spur of the moment with a couple of people, based on recommendations I've received. I was not disappointed at all! I had the lamb souvlaki and it was delicious! There was no gamey-ness that some lamb dishes have. We also ordered the calamari and it was delicious. My partner loves calamari and said it was easily some of the best he's had. We also went through a couple pitchers of sangria.
For dessert, we decided to try one of each, but my favourite was the ek met and bougatsa.
The staff were all extraordinary and we loved our server. Will definitely be back and will make a reservation next time!
Ordered for home delivery, and the food (which was SO good) arrived super quick! Not to mention, the driver niko was very handsome and funny, he definitely deserves a raise if u ask me: D
We were happy to see that the Covid rules were in place, which took our concern away and allowed for a relaxing evening. The food was awesome, especially the roasted pork and the desert was refreshing. Our group arrived early and we had a great window view. Service was very personable, we had plenty of time for chatting with drinks and apps before the main meal.certainly would come baaack
Solid. Had great takeout. Good chicken souvlakia and roast lamb dinner. Would have been a 5/5 if the roast lamb was more browned had a bit more of a roast crust. Same with potatoes, a little more roasted would be nice.
Glad to have tried this place last week and will definitely go back for a dine-in experience.
Almost had to stop the car somewhere on the road because the smell of the food was so good.
Food was absolutely delicious with the appies being my fav. The garlic prawns sauce was rich and added more taste to the rice and also used it as a dip for the pita bread too. Calamari was super soft and fresh tasting too with the generous amount of onions adding a nice sweet taste.
The lamb chops was spot on and very tender too. Only thing about the lamb chop dish is that I didn't really like the way the potatoes were cooked. Not sure how they were cooked but, the outer layer of it was a little hard instead of a fully soft potato. Otherwise, everything was awesome.
This place never disappoints. We went last night with a party of 8, so it was a good sized party which I know can be challenging. Then to make it interesting a 9th person showed up last minute and the restaurant accommodated us very nicely even though they were very busy! To add more complexity, my 7 year old child was being quite difficult and fussy. Costa was so amazing with her, and even got her to laugh, talk - and eat! The food is usually excellent but last night, it seemed even more exceptional. Lamb and chicken souvlaki, kalamari, lasagna, even the Greek salad was outstanding - everything was so fresh and made/cooked to perfection. And because we were there for multiple birthday celebrations, the kitchen whipped up a beautiful dessert platter for the table (can’t believe I didn’t take a picture-sigh). The prices are very reasonable as well. We have been here a dozen times and expect to be back many more!
It's is a family owned business and our experience was amazing. The food was fresh and the customer service was excellent. Always came to check on us to make sure we are enjoying the food. Definitely a MUST place when visiting here!
I usually don't leave reviews, but this place definitely warranted one. Firstly, the food was amazing. I had the mixed souvlaki, and the flavors were amazing. The thing that brought it over the edge is the passion of the owner. He explained to me the process in which the beef went through and what kind of cut. On top of all of this, the prices were extremely reasonable. I didn't get as much rice as I would have liked, but the quality is undeniable. My main complaint would be in regards to the price of the baklava, but even then, it tasted amazing. This is one place I can definitely reccomend and you can see me at again!
The best experience Chloe was our waitress and fully knowledgeable in ingredients used in their dishes. The service was above and beyond we never had to once wave her down or ask for something. The atmosphere was great for a Friday night not too loud and the view was beautiful. Our food was fast and delicious! Cannot say enough good things about this place and look very forward to returning.
Great local Greek food, it's our go to greek when we what good food.
The indoor area overlooking the river is all windows so you get a wonderful view of the river and new west waterfront. It's up high to so the view is really good.
The restaurant its breath taking located right on the edges of big Fraser River restaurant has glass walls in whole rear which shows the whole river scenery mile or more on both ends i enjoyed every moment eating and watching the river the restaurant its spacious and has romantic atmosphere to it spanking clean and the food cooked by experience Authentic Greek chefs gourmet dishes freshly prepared ingredients mouth watering delicious the servers and staff super friendly and professional highly recommended
Absolutely had the best time at Taverna Greka. We started with Saganaki. The cheese was fried perfectly. We started with a cool watermelon vodka cocktail and then I had a lovely house red wine. I had a chicken souvlaki and it was so tender and had a really nice flavor. My favorite part of the meal was the tzatziki. It goes with everything, rice, chicken, potatoes and pita. The owner stopped by to chat with us for a bit and he’s a lovely man. I’m definitely going back.
40 degrees and they still pulled off a fantastic meal for our family. Authentic food and no pre-made stuff other restaurants are substituting in lately. Keep it up guys. Best in New westminster by far.
I was surprised to find such a restaurant in New Westminster - Canada even. Everything is great about this place: food, the interior, atmosphere, balcony seating. I was also lucky to watch belly dancing my first time here!
Worst Greek food I have ever eaten. Poor quality mass produced. The potatoes and rice were both soggy, bright yellow and everything tasted like lemon. Sangria had canned fruit cocktail bits in. Cheaply made. The one belly dancer was a beginner and had a two participants and it reminded me of an all inclusive where they try get the guests to participate unsuccessfully. Atmosphere by the water was lovely however. That is the only reason it got the extra star.
The best Greek food in New Westminster. We always go on Tuesday nights to hear the awesome singer and guitarist Rossy. Great food and great staff. The owner is wonderful and she works the floor along with her servers. Beautiful view of the Fraser River and the Riverside Quay. Highly recommended.
I got lucky to sit by the view, early bird, which was great, can see the quay area. In the pictures the rice looks dry and the potatoes look unpresentable but its actually really tasty with touch of vinegar I assume. Good piece of chicken I wish it wasn't even slightly charred. Otherwise great customer service, ambience and staff seem to be happy! Its slightly expensive mag be due to location.
Great view! Great Greek food for Vancouver, being from East Coast we are very difficult when it comes to Greek food. Appetizer were very good, plate or very big. My moussaka was ok. Baklava were excellent.
Taverna Greka is a Greek restaurant along Columbia Street with good size servings and glasses of wine at reasonable rates. Their lemony potatoes are so good along with their flavourful rice, Greek salad, and pita bread that accompany the Greek dishes. They do serve the pita bread hot (1 bread pp) with tzatziki when the entree is served, but I always ask them to serve it with the drinks. My order of chicken souvalki - big chunks of chicken breast on a stick - had a wonderfully grilled taste, still moist, and served very hot. The restaurant is open for lunch as well, but we usually go for dinner. I always look forward to a meal at this restaurant - tasty food, good atmosphere, reasonable prices.
Great view, if u can get a window seat. Beef souvlaki was super tender. Prices are reasonable. And a guitar guy playing music as he strolls down the aisle.
Food was ok kind of dry. Service was excellent from my server but at the bar this other waitress made fun of me with this other waitress infront of me because I didn't tip her as I thought gratuity was included in the bill. I thought that was really bad customer service making the customer feel cheap. I then gave her a $5 tip for when she served me 4 shots explaining I'm sorry I didn't know trip wasn't included. She took the tip but was very cold about it.
Really good and tasty platter to share, the tzatziki is amazing! Our first waitress was lovely but the other ones looked a bit bored. Will be back if we return to New Westminster!
This is hands down one of my favourite Greek restaurants in the lower mainland! My husband and I love to go here for date nights, as the atmosphere is very romantic and the food is consistently delicious. My go-to favourite dish is the Garlic Butter Prawns, and my husbands favourite is the Lamb Souvlaki. Also, the view of the Fraser River is absolutely breathtaking! If you go there on Tuesdays be prepared to be soothed with some live soulful Latin style guitar playing. Highly recommend checking this place out!
The best chicken cordon bleu ever. Made fresh, baked not deep fried. It is listed as a "special" and not on the "regular" menu. I go here just to order that, the fixings that come with it are also awesome. Beautiful restaurant with great views of the river and live music.
This place deserves the good reviews. Good food, good service, good ambience (make sure you ask for a table with a view when you make your reservation). We both had the moussaka and both loved it. I don't know if they addressed the portions issues based on the past reviews or if the reviews were written by sumo wrestlers, but our portions were more than abundant. No issue there. I especially enjoyed the touch of vinegar on the potatoes. I'll dine here again.
Fantastic experience at this lovely restaurant! Treated like family the minute we walked in the door. The food was absolutely amazing, the service was five star if I could give six I would! The dessert was out of this world. I will definitely be back to this restaurant and I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys Greek
