Love the gender inclusive toilets, all the different popcorn toppings, the music selections, and the films! A pillar of the Vancouver cinemascape.

Absolutely lovely small theater with a great selection of old chesnuts to watch and thoroughly enjoy. Popcorn smelled good, theater was nice. Would go again!

A place that cares about cinema and a haven for the historical and underground movies to thrive.

I didn’t like the butter on the popcorn, it was soggy in no time. Very nice that you can freely season it, though. Including nutritional yeast.

Wonderful spot for art films' showcasing and private viewings with exquisite curation. You'll be surrounded by lovers of all things film. The popcorn is also pretty great!

We were in town as tourists and needed something to do in the evening, so we walked down to this theatre and watched whatever was playing-a documentary about plantations in Hawaii. It was really interesting! Great atmosphere and snacks and staff. Definitely worth a stop no matter what's playing.

Staff is friendly and movie selection is very good but the practice of having to self salt the popcorn is dumb and the facility asked
Shows its age. Work supporting though since they are one of the few places in Vancouver showing independent and artsy movies

VIFF selection this year was a fail for me ha ha. But we're not rating that. We're rating the theater.

It was F ing hot! I couldn't enjoy the movie because it was soooo hottt inside the theater.me and my friends were glued to our seats in sweat! It wasn't just me. They needed to turn AC and make it comfortable.

The drinks and popcorn stand were fine. Good selection. And I did appreciate the spices tray for popcorn. That was awesome.

The staff/volunteers were all amazing.

Seats were comfy enough and actually nicely lined up so that you didn't get stuck behind a super tall person. Good layout!

But for the love of god! Manage temperature a bit better!

Great theatre and I love the films they show. I wish there were more places like this in Vancouver.

A great independent theater showcasing non-mainstream flicks. Past films, even present- a great spot to have a popcorn, sit and feel emersed in something greater than ourselves. Life. I feel that way when I'm watching a film here that allows me to escape-even for 80 mins- a reset and possibly a life changing experience. I never feel self conscious coming here alone- it's okay to be me solo and possibly unlike a larger theater might make me question things, I don't here. I feel a sense of community here

I really like this theatre and the niche market it represents. From local independent films to film festivals to obscure foreign films, this is the place. Some amazing films are shown here and should see far greater audiences. It's not all about Hollywood or Cineplex. I'm always pleasantly surprised at the quality and diversity of films shown here.

One of the greatest movie theatres in the West Coast plays nothing but the most interesting movies that are out there most of these you can’t even find on DVD video cassette or any other format. Why don’t you have a membership?

This cinema was my weekend salvation during 2016’s summer, I remember I discovered David Lynch’s movies in there, don’t ever change, you’ll be forever in my heart.

A great theatre playing a wide variety of films. Decent popcorn (it's unflavored though), and really comfortable seats. Like the most comfortable seats.

Nice theatre playing lots of indie and old movies. I went there to watch The Wizard of Oz and Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom a few years ago (crazy experience). Unique place in the city.

Friendly service, great and fair price snacks, cookies and popcorn and great movies from foreign countries!

Great films for the indie scene. They support local film makers and foreign content. Annnnddd they have the best popcorn!

If you are in for non-mainstream movies, this place is a perfect choice.
They are hosting the EU film festival, as an example.

Great place atmosphere wise and servicial I recently watch the last day of the Latin American film festival was as usual.great movies usually in there

Nice theatre with lots of space and comfortable seating. Great place for a low key movie and the location is great. Concession has lots of selection and decent price. Located around lots of restaurants and businesses.only downside is parking is very expensive in this area but there is free parking about 5-10mins walk away

Film quality was great, as well as snacks. The vinyl seats could be a bit more breathable, so I'd suggest a different material at their next renovation.
27 July 2019 15:17
Such a great place to get away from the mainstream blockbusters and learn more about different modern and classic cinema. I'm still waiting on that call to be a volunteer there.

A cinephile's paradise.
Variety of international modern and historic cinema screened regularly. Excellent curation, service and all round great experience in the heart of the city.

A cool and engaging product, i.e. High quality, foreign and domestic art and cinema verite (among a vast array of non-commercial formats) recommends this non profit film society to the restless and curious film goer, bored to death with Hollywood formula action and drama standards.
Where else can you see early Soviet/German war films with sympathetic characters and idiosyncrtic tendencies or Italian, french, not to mention canadian films, displaying real imagination, superb acting and intelligent scripts/plots to help you escaping the "current crop of "zombie" films or whatever else has been concocted to capture the lackluster film goer these days. Inspired cinema put on by film fans and artists who really know how to spot, and tell a story. Stories of all sorts guaranteed (almost.) to satisfy the intelligent film goer in downtown Vancouver.

Cool, vintage, and classy. Shows classic and new films. Groups can rent it for events, which is why I have been here.
06 May 2019 4:37
Older theatre but right in centre of downtown Vancouver. Great gathering place. Parking was a bit expensive though.

Watched Seven Samurai and enjoyed. Simple movie theatre and will be returning for Police Story.

I rarely give 5 stars but the popcorn makes this place the best cinema in town.soooo many toppings.who would have thought nutritional yeast would be good on popcorn. These guys know film! If you love film you will love this place.

Cinematheque is a gem of an arthouse, and what's not to like about a small, intimate cinematic setting? Took out a membership tonight and I hope to find time to see good films there again. The chairs are super comfortable and the treats for sale are significantly above average.
13 December 2018 18:24
Great place for non-mainstream and foreign cinema. Their program is carefully curated and for 3 dollars a year you can support their great work and buy tickets at a reasonable price. The staff are nice and clearly passionate about their work.
