The Dolar Shop Kingsway / CHOCHO Hot Pot

It’s been a while since I’ve last came here. This time I find Chocho has very poor management. I made reso at 5: 15pm, we were seated right on time. They informed us that we only had 1hr 45 min to eat (till 7pm) understandable as it could get quite busy. We picked our sauce and food but only came back with no soup arriving till maybe 5: 35-5: 40pm. I find it very disappointed with their new policy. They ended up giving our bill at 6: 30pm and said that this was our last call since our time was almost running out… We felt rushed eating and it made me lose my appetite when I saw the receipt lying on the table that early. Waitress was no where to be found in the beginning but when the new waitress came after everything felt so rushed. She made us pay the bill right at 6: 50pm when we’re still eating… I don’t quite like their new system. My suggestion is to maybe provide the bill 10-15 min before time ends and if you’re going to keep the 1hr 45 min please bring the broth out on time.

The ingredients are quite fresh, but you are not told until you enter that the meal time has been changed from 2 hours to 1 hour and 45 minutes. The management is chaotic. Some waiters said that the time starts from the time you enter, and some said that the time starts from the time when you put the pot on the bottom, and finally from the time you enter. Just started counting the time, and it was mandatory to leave an 18% tip. It really didn’t leave a good impression.

Okay this place is the best. The quality of ingredients is top notch, including the service. The service is very attentive, every empty dish would be taken away quickly, soup would be filled without asking, and the meats and drinks came out quick. Best part about this place is the correct amount of meat they give you. Unlike other hotpot places, acting like they forgot how to count.

Overall not a bad AYCE hot pot place. There are many options of fresh veggies and hot pot ingredients you can choose from. There's several options for beef slice and the quantities are actually enough that you don't have to worry about not having enough. The reason why I deducted a star is because I felt the soup base aren't that flavorable. I ordered half-half，a tomato soup base and a chili hot soup base. However I can't taste the difference, so its better to dip the food with sauce. Another reason is also because the water is from tab water. There's AYCE drinks, from palm juice to soda, but if there's an option for tea, that'll be wonderful.

Overall it's a great AYCE hotpot with fresh, great quality ingredients. Speaking of which, their ice cream is a must try with oreo cone. Also, make sure to reserved your table way ahead of time, usually tables are being reserved weeks ahead of time.

Both Food and services were really good. Meat was fresh, got a sauce bar, veg bar, a dessert bar, and some really good crispy bun. And they even have curry brisket, and fried noodles. At the end of the meal, if u still have space in your stomach, there is free ice cream in a waffle cone. The waiter and waitress were very friendly, constantly coming back to refill the soup, took away the empty plates, and refill all the water bottle. It was a very enjoyable meal. Much better dining experience than the more expensive one at station square.

Too busy on a Friday night. Waited 30 minutes even with reservation. The food was great. Fresh and tasty. The soup base was flavorful. Service was good but can be better. It was loud with many people having a party.

I love their osmanthus syrup! It's the best I ever had in Canada. Good variety of food, friendly and polite service, love the small hot pot set up. Every thing is perfect. I suggest to make reservations coz the waiting is like 1 hour

They are fully booked until next month for All You Can Eat, but they managed to find a reservation for us so we didn't have to wait long. It does get super busy after 9PM, but the food is worth it. Service can be slow and we had some drinks mixed up as a result of how many people were there, but they were apologetic and got the right order quickly after.

We were all stuffed by the end of the meal. It's the same quality of food when you come during regular hours!

This is the best Dolar Shop in Burnaby. The dinner buffet is great, nice ambience & friendly, helpful service. Can’t get any better. The rating is based on only the Kingsway location for their $39.99 all you can eat buffet from 9 pm to 1 am.

Add extra for the unlimited non-alcoholic drinks or alcoholic drinks. Here’s my rating: (5 is the best)

Ambience: 5/5 – nice and clean with a few big tables to fit large groups. Great for date night or chilling with friends & family.
Service: 5/5 – servers made sure our inquiries were answered and always cleared our empty plates
Food: 4/5 – buffet special excluded certain items such as the more expensive cuts of beef such as waygu. There’s a good selection of broth to choose from plus a great assortment of add-on. Don’t forget the buffet dessert too. Tip: the meats come on a big platter. Just order 1 platter at a time, otherwise you will be charged extra based on what you don’t eat. They want to minimize wastage which is reasonable.
Value: 5/5 – can’t beat the price considering other places charge the same for a limited selection
Parking: 4/5 – free street parking after 9 pm

Tip: make a reservation, otherwise expect to wait.

Went for the $40 AYCE special after 9 pm daily for the rest of the summer.

Make reservations if you don’t want to be disappointed.

There are four broths to choose from and an option to have spicy broth on one side and pork or tomato on the other.

Meat selections of 6 options (three beef, one lamb, one pork, one chicken), two trays per person at a time.

Tons and tons of vegetables, seafood and sauces to serve yourself with.

There is also an option to add unlimited non-alcoholic beverages for a fee. Or a package for limited alcohol beverages with unlimited non-alcoholic.

Service was attentive and friendly.

As with all AYCE, food waste is discouraged and expect to be charged if you are wasteful!

Would go back again and would recommend to others.

Food was good and the service was fantastic. Benny went out of his way to make sure we had a good experience. He even had a card signed from him for our friend’s birthday! Hope Benny is recognized for the great energy he brings to the team.

The newest addition and store of the Dolar Shop enterprise.

Compared to Richmond which has a bit of a tacky look, this one is quite modern and does not feel even like a Chinese restaurant.

The food is consistently good and fresh, although key to know this is one of the highest end hot pot shops in the greater Vancouver area so you will pay a premium for the food, service and experience.

(Expect to pay anywhere from $70-$120 per person, depending on what you order and the type of foods ordered. If you're going to get geoduck or wagyu beef, you will be paying more!)

I personally like the tomato soup base but like to get the split tomato soup and spicy soup base. You can ask for more tomato slices and extra tomato paste to adjust for the richness of the broth.

Their special soya sauce is really something they should think of packaging and selling it more broadly, because it's just oh-so-tasty. Their sauce bar here is not as big as the Richmond location, but still plentiful to get lots of different combinations.

Favourite dishes include their beef tongue, frozen tofu, mung bean noodle and mushroom platter.

Will return but not monthly - not helpful for the waistline because it's so good it's easy to overeat even when it is not ACYE!

Dolar is always a solid choice and this was my first time to this new location. Food options are better than the Station Square location, and the golden chicken soup is SO tasty. Prices and quality are very fair for a la carte and great desserts at the end.

Service was very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly from all staff. Host, Alber was very eager to greet us, which I thought set the tone for the whole dining experience, and our server Rios was A+. Checked in on us at the right times, was approachable when our table had any questions or requests, and really made the night enjoyable. Great job!

Despite the restaurant being busy, our host Alber was very professional and timely in organizing our table for dinner. The food and service were 10/10, would visit again.

The taste of the broths here is always good! This is my second time going to dolar shop but first time at this location. The service was good but I found it hard to hear any of the servers. Make sure to get the ice cream at the end! You gotta ask for it from anyone of the workers!

My No. 1 choice for hotpot. Two thumbs up for the Team. We went to the relatively new Kingsway shop. Will return again w/o hesitation.

Brought my family for their first hot pot and we had a great experience at Dolar! The place is bright, spacious and not too noisy. Excellent food and service was great.

My favourite broth was tomato, it was delicious and rich. Handcrafted noodles, shrimp pate, and think cut beef were outstanding. We also liked the assorted platter for two, it’s good if you want to try a bit of everything. The banana pancake was one of our family favourite! The food quality is really great here.

Ended the meal with delicious vanilla soft serve ice cream:) The service was really helpful. At the end of our meal, Min the manager checked up on us and was friendly and we will be coming back again!

I came in on a Saturday at 1pm and thought there was gonna be a happy hour deals since it was before 5pm. This is partly my fault and I should have confirmed first before I sat on the table then they tell us this location doesn’t offer the happy hour before 5. I saw the screen shot add online saying it did but obviously it didn’t apply. I looked at the menu and the cheapest set menu was $38.99 per order. I was with a friend so I couldn’t just back out and leave the place even if I wanted to! The service was fine but everything was expensive for what it is. I ordered a spicy broth and it was oily I had to scoop a whole cup of oil out. I complained and the staff exchanged it with a chicken broth which was tastier. My friend and I will never come back again.

Very nice and cozy, staff were very welcoming and wonderful. Seems everyone enjoys working here, bonus they're open late at night and the food is pretty reasonably priced. Would recommend

Great service, and good hot pot! They help guide us through the options and decide on a great fun meal.

Tried this new location a couple days ago. The difference between this location and the Richmond one is they have two new broths. One is the golden broth made of 80% chicken essence. The other one is hot and sour broth. Personally I liked the hot and sour broth because they use the preserved sour vegetables which I like. They also have a deep fried platter that consist of popcorn chicken, deep fried nachos, deep fried squid.

The new dessert bar is a nice added touch. I highly recommend using the special sauce they make for you at your table. Service was fantastic. Our waitress was highly attentive and nice to us. Food is good as usual but we didn’t order anything too special.

Not sure if it’s from inflation or maybe price vary at each location. I don’t recall spending about $94/pp when we went to the Richmond location in December. I think at most we spent about $77 in December. Prices must have gone up since then.

Their soup bases and the fried dishes are very delicious, and the Exquisite Golden Soup base is the best. Their portions are a bit small, and their service and speed are very good. But they didn't provide a slotted spoon and a ladle spoon on the table. I know it's small individual soup, but it's still more convenient with a small ladle spoon. The spicy soup base is not spicy enough even though I chose to add extra spiciness. The free ice cream after the meal is too sweet for me, but it tastes good, though. Their best dessert is the creme brulee. It's the most delicious creme brulee I ever had. Highly recommended their golden soup and creme brulee.
