The Gathering Place Community Centre

This place is a gathering place for underprivileged people. Many junkie hang around, making this area unsafe for walking.

Great place, amazing street friends and folks, but the staff need to learn to be more compassionate and understanding towards people with addictions, mental health issues and have a little more paitience towards miniorities. Great cafeteria!

Community Center for Downtown Grandville Street. Music program Art studio, Cafeteria (great inexpensive food) free phones, library, showers, laundry, social programs, underground parking. If you live nearby or are just visiting, it's the resource center that can assist in all ones daily need's.

A sweet little gym I use for a nice change from the regular one. Many other activities, groups plus an awesome cafeteria with great prices if you're on a budget.

Most of the time you can get a decent meal. But enough with the kale you ruin the meal with it. And the portions are getting smaller it's more like a side dish.

For decades, I passed by the Gathering Place and never knew to go inside. It wasn't until I was working in a play that was staged in this community centre that I fell in love with the beautiful energy of the place and people working there. It was full of love, very clean, soulful and humble. People in need can have access to affordable delicious meals, free shower/laundry, art and music, social support and other community events. There are movie and book reading events and no one is turned away. The washrooms are routinely checked and clean. And on Tuesdays and Thursdays, people can have access to free clothing (you can also donate clothes that don't fit you for others to use). Just so touched and grateful that such place exist to give hope and light to lost souls.

I don't recommend this place. Unless your fond of food poisoning, these people have no idea how to care for the less fortunate, whether it's the food or their attitude, I recommend avoiding this place

They have food that is sold at a low price that is actually not that bad! They also have showers, laundry service, a TV room, WiFi, and a gym! I think they do various activities such as sewing, yoga, stuff like that! The staff is really nice! I think they also have phones available! It's a good place to go to!

An excellent place to receive a hand up rather than a hand out. The cafeteria is professionally run and puts out both vegetarian & regular meals. Most often the food is so good you would think that you got it from a 5 restaurant. Als …

Delicious, healthy food. Big portions, low price. You get some occasional oddball types, but so am I.

The center has a great variety of programs for women, seniors, trans, etc. They also offer very cheap meals that are well cooked.
The problem is the washrooms. There is only one and is always in use. I think since washrooms are so important, the city or whoever is in charge of this place should take care of it and bring back more quality washrooms.
This place offers so much for the surrounding communities that we all should care about it.

This place do offer alot of help, we volunteer there and all the people there amazing:) happy I got to know the place through John head of security, he's an awesome person truly amazing:)

A daily reminder that Vancouver harbours some of the worst humans on the planet, disguising themselves as "good people" terrible creatures and front desk out here

Homeless people. Cafeteria is inexpensive but disgusting.
Don't make eye contact with people here.

This place is best described by it's name. Mostly kind and helpful staff and the food at meal times is definitely prepared with love. Lots of opportunity to find support here as well.

The gathering place is actually really awesome, they have 3 meals a day for $2.50 a meal and the food is great

I believe this is one of the greatest resources in all of Vancouver!

I've been out on the streets just since Covid hit and staying beside The gathering place in my opinion the are always angry in there job I just got banned again for the second time in the last 2 years outside they came to our tent and told us s we could not be set up after 8 am raining or snowing they consistintly want homeless people out of there way of staying warm and I find them rude and down right disrespectful not to mention one of there workers ran over my Harold's ankle and refused to stop I remember chasing the van down the ally and all I could see was the bk of his head but I know exactly who it was! I've never felt so much abusive behavior coming from The Gathering place Employees. And that is the truth as God as my witness. The cops are even worse to us REFUSING TO INVESTIGATE THE HIT AND RUN OVER.the picture is where I'm staying tonight.let's pray for no more Rain it only brings pain and heart ache.

This is a helpful place for people on the streets, sros, at risk or the like. Lots of transition type people there. Don't leave your items laying around as it will be stolen fast. Nice staff members.

Their trampling of our rights, freely barring people for hurt feelings, not doing physical labor after a shower or whatever non criminal reason they find to do so has to stop. This is a public place paid for by the taxpayers and the facilities should always be accessible to the public. Unless there is a criminal reason and an order signed by a judge the public CANNOT he barred or restricted from entering that building and accessing any of the facilities.

Amazingly unknown by many people the gathering place is a fantastic environment where you can get food three Square a day have a shower and get your clothes cleaned for those traveling and people who live on the streets college prices are amazing breakfast for $1.50 upwards to three dollars full meal friendly environment

Great community centre for downtown residents. Many public services, adult education centre & a very affordable cafeteria upstairs.

It's an essential place with essential services. The food definitely isn't five star, but for $2.50 what can you expect. The staff are friendly and helpful and I've never felt judged or been treated with anything, but respect.

Delicious food made affordable for low income individuals. The food is AMAZING ALWAYS! It is better than a lot of fine dining restaurants that I have eaten at. It is only $1 a year for a membership. It includes a full gym, showers, laundry, TV's, computers, phones, a library, a number of classes. It's Great! Check out the website to find out what interests you! Always Be Kind & SMILE! I hope once this pandemic is over this place could shine brighter than any community center ever did.
I volunteered about 20 years ago. I learn to sculpt and pottery I even got the chance to become a protégé to one of Vancouver first Nation sculptor Blake Hebert for almost 5 years to this day I still remain grateful for having taken the time to teach me how to be myself and enjoy my craft. He was also the person responsible for making my life a greater success in love as he introduced me to the person who I had the fortune of sharing my journey with for nearly 13 years. How much can I say about the Gathering place it's a place we're the staff do the utmost for the lesser know members, the old as the young they are treated with respect which is becoming a rarity since Covid19 has settled foot day after days.
Please do stop and see the wonderful work they do support this community center the donation does go towards embellishing the people that use their services

If you’re looking for a place to shower or a place to work out to stay fit. Come to “The Gathering Place! ” It’s one of the best supported place you will experience when you find yourself homeless or low on cash for food. They have $2 breakfast at 10am, $3 lunch at 12pm and $3 dinner at 4pm. Being a volunteer there for sometime we always put the community first!

Don’t hesitate if you need help because “The Gathering Place” is there to help you through the hard time!

Went here for a shower, breakfast, lunch and supper first time. I'm impressed. Showers are clean, food is great for just 2 bucks a meal. Some of the staff are pretty awesome, others not so much.

I'd be half the man without the services they so generously provide. I love how clean and organized the facility is. Staff is Uber helpful and friendly.

If you're having a hard time you can't beat the value on the food in their cafeteria Especially the breakfast which is cheap, good and fast! My favorite there.

The Gathering Place, as is the case most days, exhibits its regular group of self-proclaimed experts in everything from human psychology to financial planning onto medical science. None of the above appears to be employed presently in their fields. The Place attracts a number of people who appear to have varying degrees of cognitive developmental delays. The staff members while maybe possessing skills in dealing with the mentally handicapped appear to have human interaction issues of their own. I find that while some staffers are proficient and amicable others are quite contemptible. If I were to be in search of intelligent and stimulating conversations I couldn't find it here. The patrons are low-lifes for the most part.

The Gathering Place is a great place to go for a cheap meal, shower, work out in the gym, watch TV with the guys, go to the library, join the music group, elementary and high school classes, etc.

Been here and volunteered and saw a lot of the building. It’s a pretty cool place for people to hang out as they turn on TV Movies for people who want to watch movies in rooms. Prices of the cafeteria is definitely cheap however the food I personally think is tasteless. I understand it’s good for people whom are in need but I’d personally prefer something more tasty as all people deserve nice comfort food rich or poor. It is sanitary more or less, nice place for anyone to chill out if needed.

I'm blown away by how amazing this place and especially the staff try to help those in need. By far the best community centre in Vancouver!

The only bad thing is - and this is for all city community centres - is apparently it's impossible to get banned from there. They might call 911 but you'll never get barred from there. So go wild, apparently.

Walk in and see it's turning into a mental health centre. If you put an age limit of no one above 35, no one would be in here.

People are brain dead, watching t.v zoned out with no hope.

The food is dingy and people cough with no manners. Coffee is alright.

The gym is safe because none of these people work out or want to be healthy.

What happened to that 35 and above generation, they're all hopeless with no love in sight.

I'm not from here and bounce back to Toronto where a centre like this doesn't and wouldn't exist.

Here Is a place that is really helps you get the essential things done they can help with showers you can do your laundry and the cafeteria has really good food as well.

Staff are rude and not very helpful the food is very small portions and gave me food poisoning. Was banned for getting sick in hallway and embarrassed through too humiliation. Showers are over used and not cleaned also toilets are backed up. I hope the place chooses a better path needs major improvement to be a community resource. Can't I sue them for the B's?

Useful for showers which are free also if you bring your laundry and start it yourself they will finish it off for you and even fold it. All that for the small yearly 2$membership fee

It's good low income place, I was introduced years ago, when I was broke and started volunteering and still go there sometimes, as long as you not judgemental it's a good place

Found everything I needed. Showers, laundry, food and so much more. So happy it was here when I needed it. Staff is great.

This place is always going above and beyond to help people and it's always been a safe clean place to come if ur needing a safe haven.

Great food, mostly great staff. I was homeless from apr 1up until yesterday. If it weren't for the gathering place, it would of been much more unpleasant. Thank you for everyone who is associated in making it what it is. I am firever grateful.

As its name suggests; this IS a place to do many things: eat (cheaply), relax + have a conversation, work out, sing, watch a movie, shower+shave, borrow a book, and much much more. GET INVOLVED!

Can't say enough good things about the gathering place. They help homeless and street people by offering different programs and services to give people s hand up. Also one of the best places to eat for the dollar. Check it out
