Staff are rude, difficult and socially awkward. Routes are average quality but they hardly get replaced. The facilities are poor, its a very small gym.

One of the other reviews said that this gym was "one of the crappier gyms in North America" and its hard to disagree with that.

Great gym, great staff, but can definitely get quite busy. I wish they would close out the lead climbing a little sooner when it gets busy as it blocks off 3 routes basically. Hive pricing is getting a bit wild.

Very friendly and helpful staff, nice facility. Good height for Toproping. More bouldering would be nice, but there are other facilities that cater to bouldering.

A really solid climbing experience! We went on a Saturday at the 5-7pm time slot, and for the first hour or so it was extremely busy. After a while it calmed down though, and I think if you went at the 7-9 slot you'd have your pick of routes almost at all times. Staff were nice and helpful, and the facility was on the older side but still well maintained.

I am not surprised with some comments regarding their impolite service as I have experienced it myself last week. I went to cliffhanger almost every week in the past 3 months. Most of the time I call to reserve. This time I called to book as usual and then went to the gym. The receptionist named Yoanna (not sure how it's spelled) was mad at me for not booking via their website (which is not user-friendly) and questioned me “Don’t you have a phone? ” “Don’t you have internet? ” I was very upset with her rude attitude as I have never seen customer service like this. I explained that we are not walk-in clients as I have already called to book the session for 2 people, I even said “sorry” but she was still impatient and impolite. I asked to speak with the manager but she said no manager available. Even though it took me 30 min to drive all the way to Cliffhanger, I decided to leave and not climb on that day since my mood has already been ruined by Yoanna’s “customer service”. Hopefully Cliffhanger would teach their receptionists about polite manner instead of being wild and rude. I am not going back there anymore as they are NOT THE ONLY roped climbing gym in Greater Vancouver.

New management seems more friendly and welcoming. The ratings seem a little inconsistent so far, though. There's a 5.9 that I can blast through with ease, while another 5.9 is a bit of a challenge, and then theres a 5.9- that I have never been able to finish, after many attempts.

Changing rooms are a bit small, and can get crowded in very peak times.

One receptionist was really rude and it smells like BO badly in there. But the auto walls were pretty fun.

My climbing gym. The staff here are amazing, very friendly and helpful. Routes are regularly changed up to avoid boredom; always Super fun gems to conquer. U can rent all your gear if u need to and they do provide lockers, but bring your own lock.

This place rocks my socks off! All puns intended. We go weekly and it is great for the whole family. Fun routes, friendly gym culture and the staff are pretty awesome. Some new routes every few weeks to keep it interesting. You need to book ahead but you can call up and try just dropping in. They also have lessons, kids clubs, and teams.

Loving the new routes! And the grading seems to be more in line with the outdoor, please keep it up!
I'd love to see some lines set up for the two cracks! It's sad to see them on the wall but not being able to use them.

First I went here it was under construction and being used for raves, 10 years later im actually climbing on the walls! Both times a great experience, friendly and helpful staff.

I have tried this gym several times over the last few years. Just never get a good vibe from the staff, before and during pandemic. There are one or two that are helpful, but the rest are unfriendly, and at times rude and condescending. I have several friends who are regular climbers at Cliffhanger and they agree, but it's the only choice for roped climbing in Vancouver, so they have no choice. If someone opened another gym, I bet ALOT of people would happily switch. Someone open a new gym please!

Great gym. Wasn't too busy. Staff are friendly and helpful. Great variety of routes for newbies and pros alike. Also have a couple of crack climbs that most people are hesitant to try, yet they are challenging and never, ever busy. Great workout and an awesome way to stay lean and strong. Definitely recommend.

Me and my friend we to visit this place this afternoon and had this amazing, friendly and welcoming customer service experience. (Just NOT)

I presenteded myself and said that I would like to know more about the place, how it works and the prices and had the following:

"Now it is members only, we are having training and we are at full capacity, please step outside the building. "

Just like that, no Hello, no how are you doing, no I am sorry, no thanks, no good buy, no see you another time. Fantastic

Definitely one of poorest customer experience I ever had, to say the least. I absolutely DO NOT recomend this place, at least for "non members".

Recently moved to Vancouver and have been going to this gym for the last year or so. Great gym and climbing community. The staff are very welcoming and are doing their best to keep everyone physically distanced. Will be back soon!

The manager reached out and we were booked in for another session, this time we received a confirmation call and the process was smooth. The course was informative and we had a great instructor.

On April 5th we booked an introductory plus climbing course for a group of 4. Today on April 18 (two weeks later) we showed up on time for our course at 8: 30am and we’re told that they don’t have a record of our booking. What a complete waste of time.

Had a great experience doing an intro to climbing course here! Jake, our instructor, was patient, fun and friendly. Will definitely go back for more climbing

I had my intro to climbing course this week and it was great. Reading a lot of these comments about the staff, I think the staff are just straight forward and direct which is great, especially in a place like this where there's no room for messing around and they're trying to teach you something which isn't simple. Our instructor (English guy forgot his name) was brilliant. Will definitely be back.

Great routes and plenty of them, bouldering is set just like my home gym and honestly a lot better than hive just next door. Will be coming back many times!

Attended Cliffhanger for the first time since COVID. The Cliffhanger team has done a very thorough job with their COVID safety measures: online advanced booking with limited spaces, mask required signage, hand sanitizer stations throughout the gym, plexiglass barriers for check-in, stanchions with max capacity limits in narrower spaces, belaying standpoint markers for social distancing, an opened door to allow fresh air to be cycled through and a safety conscious staff. I was pleasantly surprised with the experience and am look forward to booking my next session!
