Can get a little busy at times but the route setting is great, the holds are not greasy and you can use chalk.

It also has a great training facility

Our experience today at The Hive North Shore was horrible and we will never go back. As we paid for entry for three boys ages 3-6, the man working the front desk ensured us that we’d have lots of time in the children’s area for our kiddos, even though there was a large group of kids there. We paid our thirty something for our two boys and our friend paid the fee for his kiddo. After 15-minutes in the kids area, we were kicked out by staff saying, “well, that’s Saturdays. There’s a group who’s in here now so you need to leave the children’s area. ”

I thought they were joking as they’d actually told us the complete opposite before accepting our payment. Well as it turns out, they weren’t joking. They told us our kids could go to the small “bumblebee” lines in the adult area. For kids that are 3,4, and 6, this is an entirely different experience and one I would have not paid over thirty dollars for.

If they’d been straight up when we paid that we would be in the adult section then I would have completely understood and we would have gone across the street to LaserDome or to the indoor North Shore Bike Park at Cap Mall. Not a problem.

Instead, what seemed like the woman in charge at the front desk with short dark hair and a light t-shirt was condescending, rude, and actually chuckled about the situation as if we were idiots.

We live close by, are active members of the Blueridge/Seymour Heights community and will be sharing our experience with our many friends of little ones like us.

My advice - Don’t go. And if you do and they say that over thirty bucks will get your kiddos more than 15-mins of climb time in the kid area, don’t believe them.

Large, bright, clean and the route setting is challenging. Some of the final reaches can be a little spooky, you have to know your own skill level and approach a problem accordingly.

I think it's ventilation or something? During the weekend when there are more people, the place smells really strongly of feet. So strong that it's a bit suffocating. But otherwise, a really good climbing gym.

Clean, friendly staff, and fun problems. Will be back! Loose chalk is allowed at this location which is a plus

Having a studio in this hive location is such a good idea. My favourite combination is power yoga and then bouldering till my muscles burn. Wish they had these in a closer location (i.e. Vancouver).

Loose chalk allowed.

Fun setting in an old school gym with very high walls, and a section with people's that top out on the top of the wall.

Full training area, barbells & plates too.

The space is cozy and great for beginners - which I am.
Unfortunately the only thing is that there are way too many people walking into you or past you too closely (close enough to rub up on you) during peak times. But the team is great and their energy keeps me awake in the morning!

Super nice to a first timer! Great vibe and setup. They did not warn me that I wouldn't be able to even wash my hands the next day as the forearms get so sore.

The staff are all really rad and the manager rules. Setting is rad with a good balance of problem types. Good facility for bouldering and training.

It is hot outside (30C) so indoor climbing is definitely a wise option. Their booking app suggested this location over the downtown ones that do not have AC. I drove all the way to this gym to realize that this gym is quite warm as well even at 9 pm!

Best gym in Vancouver, lovely wall and mat space. Great setting, upstairs lounge and changing rooms, fantastic facilities. Cannot find anything to nitpick or fault.

Took my 12 year old son here and it was our first time climbing. It was such a great experience. The staff were super friendly and helpful. We can’t wait to return.

First time climber, I had no idea what to do and the staff was so helpful. They taught me the basics and safety procedures, after that I just had a great time and got a monthly membership. Highly recommended for anyone who's interested in just having some fun times while exercising their core.

Less crowded than the Vancouver hive, and with extra amenities. 2021 update: you don't need to reserve to climb here any more!

I suck at climbing these walls. I have a huge fear of heights. The team who works here really goes above and beyond. I dont feel judged especially when I'm climbing level 1s and everyone else Is climbing 3+. For anyone who is worried or scared you'll be taken care of. Special shout out to Kyle and Amber. Both lovely people. Thanks for bringing some sanity to the pandemic world.

Just took an excellent bouldering course run by Jacki, would 100% suggest to everyone who is new, new-ish, or needing a review to the sport of bouldering. Can't wait to try out all my new tips and tricks!

What a wonderful experience - even with pandemic mask wearing, the facility is in great shape, the staff are helpful, and the experience with young kids is fantastic.

Except gym!
Great variety of and quality of routes, and a good number of weights (bench, squat rack, moon board, campus board) upstairs as well

Love The Hive! Coming here makes exercising fun. There is always something new and challenging for me to climb and the staff is so welcoming.

The bouldering is so fun, always has good if not great climbs, great community, the caves are great for campus-ing

Looks amazing but what a joke in regards to supervised climbing! Both our children are on climbing teams but in order for our family to climb, 1 parent cannot! I would understand if it was just standing in the mat and watching, but they wouldn’t even let us climb on the wall at all! So disappointed in this place. Why can’t they have exceptions in place for situations like this? !

Great place with very friendly staff. Me and my wife have been visiting this place for a year. The only issue we had compare to Vancouver location is the difficulty of the problems. Most of the problems apparently are built for people who have pretty long wingspan. In DT location there are a lot of 2-3 hex problems which are challenging for average height people as well.

Top class walls, mats, and holds. The upstairs exercise room is spacious and welcoming with all the necessary hand held equipment. Nice change rooms and showers. Lovely staff. The widely varied music selection is usually great too.

First time rock-climbing in my life was so much fun here! Got a couple of blisters but the experience was well-worth it.
22 May 2019 22:18
Really cool place: the climbing wall, the gears and the party room. The staff are super friendly. Highly recommended!
13 April 2019 17:26
Really cool gym, great staff and awesome amenities but climbs are a little sandbagged and it's not the most beginner friendly, would love a better spread of difficulty
06 April 2019 18:08
A great Wall with lots of fun climbs. New rules for child climbers have been put in place that severely limit families who want to climb. Will be looking at other gyms for family memberships.

Awesome place for a birthday party! Right from booking the party to the time we left, all the staff encountered were great. Andrew and Aga were the staff members leading the kids in safety orientation and falling techniques, games and climbing, and they were awesome! Very good with the kids.

Facilities were clean (even noticed that they had sanitized our space after we had cleared out). The community room was great to have as there's a fridge/freezer and sink in there, so very convenient if bringing food.

The kids wall was really great, especially for the really young kids. We had ages 2 to 7 in our party and some of the younger ones were scared to go out to the main climbing area so it was a good thing they could just hang out at the kiddie wall. The older kids had lots of fun in the main climbing area.

I can't praise the staff enough.they were pretty much with our group for the entire 2.5 hours, except for when we took a break for food and cake. But they would check back in and take the kids again for games as soon as we were ready.really good coordination.

Highly recommend this place for birthday parties!

This is what a healthy lifestyle should look like! Unpretentious, varied, positive in a well designed facility with plenty of room to explore and experience at your own level! Just did the Wednesday Hatha Yoga with Beck and it was right the point with a great combination of strength, balance, breathing and stretching. As a newbie with no experience it was still easy to follow with plenty of encouragement and support!
