The Oceanside, a Coast Hotel

This was our second stay at the hotel, self, wife and our two grown up boys. Sam & Arman at the reception are always smiling, positive and welcoming. The house keeping staff doesn’t leave a stone unturned in its upkeep. Our preferred room of choice is 114 always. It is very comfortable for a family of 4 with an incredible view & sit out.

Nov 10th the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale left almost an hour late making it so we missed the last ferry from Earls Cove to Saltery Bay.
Realizing we now had to find a room for the night I messaged Storm Jespersen one of my contacts from work where I make Corporate bookings.
Storm replied saying we had the best room at their Oceanside in Davis Bay waiting for us. That is exactly what happened!
We arrived to a warm greeting by the front desk staff and off we went to our room.
We were in a room that was on the lower level and had an amazing view of the dock and water at Davis Bay.
The room has been fully renovated and offers everything one would need from a comfortable stay. An absolutely beautiful bathroom with high end finishes, wonderful waterfall shower with more than enough pressure which was appreciated. The bed was well dressed and super comfortable.
We highly recommend you try this place out the next time you're on the peninsula.

I use the Coast Hotel/Evergreen chain actively for Corporate bookings at work.
Dealing with the friendly staff at all locations is always a pleasure.

We stayed in 2 bedroom king on second floor. Beautiful view except the sliding doors had so much condensation between the glass most of the day you couldn't see the view. They spent lots of $$ renovating on fancy things like automatic blinds and a fancy dimming bathroom mirror but looking close, kitchenette cabinets had dings in them with wood exposed and watch job with poor paint blending on wall. No tvs in the 2 bedrooms. Staff were kind but may be new hires? ! We asked for more towels 2nd day of 4 as well as other pillow options as the bedroom pillows are all massive and thick. They never came back. Nor did they check the room on the 3rd day. The beds have mattress covers that are plastic. While great for sanitation, we had to unzip it and roll it down to sleep as it was so loud every time you moved. All that aside, the location was incredible. Despite these issues, all things I believe that can be improved with ease, we will be back.

The front desk agent was helpful, she even called me when I hadn't checked in yet. The room was clean and comfortable

Pros: Amazing view! Access to the pier in minutes. Rooms are renovated with some nice touches like remote operated blinds (blackout and sheer), no fog mirror in bathroom, lovely shower. Close access to many trails, restaurants etc. Comfortable beds and pillows, which was appreciated! Did I mention amazing view? !

Cons: No soundproofing and neighbors sound like they are in your room. The room we were placed in was 101. The restaurant's patio is directly in front of this room. People dining in the restaurant can see directly into your room. If you don't want any privacy this is okay, but for those who do, would definitely recommend making sure you are not placed in this room. It was okay for us as no one using patio as it is too cold, but do feel we should have been told prior to our stay if we are comfortable with this. (Closing curtains for privacy kind of defeats the purpose of an ocean view hotel).

All in all, our stay was good and we enjoyed the Sunshine Coast!

The cleaning staff and front end staff do a great job and the location is great. We had a few issues that were more from a contractors point of view. Mentioned it to the front end and was immediately placed us in a new villa and the maintenance guy was working on the room that day (Easter weekend). I think based off what this place was and what they have turned it into they are just chasing some “old building” issues. I want this place to get better mattresses and then it’s a 5 star

I love this hotel! Super close to where I need to be. Very convenient and easy to book. The busy street makes sleeping a little loud, but I wear ear plugs so muffles the noise of the cars driving by. But the view of the ocean is fabulous! Great automatic blind options: sheer or complete black out. Good size, comfy king size bed, comes with comfy chair for reading, and desk for working. Pretty good wifi. Bathroom is lovely and modern. Hot water takes a while, but once it comes in the shower is super toasty. Needs a kettle when I make tea, but other than that, it's a great place to stay. I highly recommend.

Nice rooms, very clean and well equipped.
The view is phenomenal when the sun starts going down above the ocean.
Sam at the front desk is very friendly and helped us with all our questions.
Recommend visiting if you have the chance.

Recently updated, room was pretty clean. All rooms have views of the water which is amazing although the highway is between the water and the hotel.

Good service. Modern design room. Very very nice walk out patio, the iconic pier is right in front of our view. Feels like my own back yard. I grab a hotels coffee. Open the sliding walk out door, walk straight to the pier.
I have mobility problem but not on wheel chair, they immediately assign a ground floor room so I can avoid climbing stairs to 2nd level.
They have an amazing coffee machine at their lobby. Cappuccino, latte, mocha, black coffee, French vanilla, you name it.
I rent a room with 2 double king bed room. This room also has a cooking stove with a washing sink. We didn’t cook there since there are so many good food within 20 mins drive. But we did boil water and wash doggie dishes. Me & my husband & my girl friend with 2 dogs enjoy this place a lot. Only cons is not enough chairs. Not enough eating areas when we buy take out.
I will go back again & recommend this place for my friends

I visited this hotel last weekend with my family and we were so impressed with the service.coming in, we were welcomed by the warm greetings from Sam at the desk and she allowed us to check in earlier.the rooms were super cozy and fresh.we had the double kings size 2 bedrooms suite and the view was facing the waters and we saw sea lions every morning from our patio.the shower was amazing with great current and shower heads.the restaurant attached to the hotel Joe's on the Beach was where we ate the first night which was fantastic 10/10 food.it really helped eating by the hotel after a long day of fun and travels.i highly recommend this hotel and would visit again next time.

This place is paradise! My fiance and I stayed in an ocean front king room; highly recommend. The room is beautiful. Being right in front of the ocean is so peaceful. The staff is so friendly and accommodating.

The one thing I'll mention that wasn't ideal for me was the noise from the road in front of the hotel. It didn't bother my fiance but I am sensitive to noise so it made it difficult for me to sleep.

A good pair of ear plugs should solve that issue. We will be back!

We are very familiar with the Sunshine coast. The hotel location is fabulous and hotel looks to have been updated recently. Our room (not the same room as someone else mentioned below as our was a single king room) also had blown windows completely filled with condensation. There were some upgrades but also a very dingy (dirty arms) red chair in the room.
It was raining the weekend we were there and there torrential downpours from the gutters in 4/5 spots outside (bys stairwells and one right infront.of restaurant door). Not ideal and a simple fix to clean the gutters or replace.

Really bad! For $400! You get no toilet paper, no shampoo, no bedside table, dirty/uncleaned rooms, a fridge that is frozen over (left defrosted for months it looks like so unusable), no premium TV (basic cable only), no extras at all! Boxy, dated rooms, average service (one staff texting with his feet up while another checking us in etc.) And of course the advertise restaurant is "reopening soon under new management" haha. Never again!

It's definitely an upgrade from what the Bella Beach was, but it's not quite up to the tier of a true Coast hotel. The rooms look very nice and the bed was very comfortable. The A/C unit didn't work properly and just made noise, but didn't really cool the room down. The TVs definitely need to be replaced as they're still the old small models with no smart functions, and the remotes barely work.

The biggest reason for being 3 stars is the cleanliness. The mirror was dirty and had finger prints all over it. The glass shower has urine splatter all over it from the toilet, doesn't look like it has been cleaned since the renovation. It's pretty gross actually.

We'll see if Coast can correct these with the operator in the near future. For now I'd probably continue to go to the Driftwood.

Location location location! If your looking for a beautiful sunset off your deck this is the place. Unfortunately they are struggling with staffing like everywhere else and cleaning of rooms is clearly starting to suffer. The freezers in the fridges are all so frozen over you can't use them. The patio windows were so gross on our second visit to the hotel we couldn't see out of them and we washed our patio door handle before touching it and wore our shoes on the deck and inside the room. The beds are good. Lots of pillows with different type of softness. It is really weird that they have no night stands by the beds. Very inconvenient for sure. We stayed her a little over a month ago and the experience was so much better, especially at $500 for one night we should expect more. Clean clean clean! There were a ton of little things like this.

The hotel is great, check in was smooth & quick.

A wonderful place to rest. I arrived late and Abel helped me with my bags after being friendly and accomodating. The room is modern and the king bed was soft. My room overlooked the bistro, but I was only there to sleep, and the ocean is across the street. I still had a nice view, and all the other rooms have an unobstructed view. In the morning Carol was helpful and nice. I hope she gets to try the german bakery a few doors down, because with the BCHydro outage, I wasn't able to. I would definitely stay again.

Great experience, clean rooms, amazing renovated bathroom, good front desk service. Best of all is the view from the room. Certainly the best place to stay on the island.

Great view, renovated bathroom, but the carpets were dirty with gum or sticky stuff, the patio glass doors quite obviously had not been cleaned or even wiped in many many months or years. Room service made the bed but did not wash anything in the washroom. Bathrooms also lacked toilet scrubbers, oddly. I'm sure they must have staffing shortages at the moment like everywhere else, but I think for this price the room should have cleaned more deeply before arrival. Like another poster before, this hotel does not meet what you'd expect from a big city Coast hotel, it's more like a Motel 6 down in the states. Kudos to the sole front desk guy fellow though - excellent customer service!

Born and raised on the Sunshine Coast went up for a family reunion and booked a hotel as room was limited. Decided since the hotel has been renovated and was right in front of the water we would stay. Unfortunately my first concern is I have a two year old who was with us and I called the front desk for a thinner pillow as it was so high and my son couldn’t use it they didn’t have one said they only carry standard pillows. That night he didn’t sleep the air conditioning was very loud it was so hot we had to keep on in the morning due to his asthma he was so stuffed up and sounding very sick so with my mother being super compromised I couldn’t risk bringing him back out to see the family in the morning so I left for the first ferry back to Vancouver. The front desk wasn’t open so I called when they opened and told them the situation and that we had left. I asked if they could please reimburse the 350+ dollars for the night we wouldn’t be there they said a manager would call me back, no one called back so I called again. A new receptionist answered I explained myself again and within 5 mins he called back saying they couldn’t they needed 24hrs notice. Really disappointed coming from the coast knowing everyone’s usually pretty understanding and accommodating. I can promise I didn’t want to rush home and leave but when it’s a concern of my mothers health after having a double lung transplant I guess the money was worth losing. Won’t recommend and won’t be going back

Terrible customer service! They don't have anyone working the front desk at night until 8am, save your money and book elsewhere.
