Food are amazing here. Deep fried tofu and chicken wings are a must have. Roti is also amazing, we have to order second. Staff are super helpful and attentive.

This place is amazing! The owners are very nice, the menu is full of amazing food, and there are so many GF options, even for things like popcorn chicken and fried mushrooms (so amazingly delicious - I got both and they were so good). This one of the best restaurants I have been to in a while. It is a new favorite!

I brought my wife and son here for our fifth anniversary. They provide a cozy, inviting atmosphere that relaxes and inspires.

We started out with the Roti Canai and Popcorn Chicken. Excellent starters for a fine meal.

We then proceeded to indulge with the Gu Loo Pork, Seafood Teppan, and Mixed Mushroom Platter. Wonderful.

The food and service were excellent. I will definitely be back and will let others know as well, which is easily done as I work in the hospitality industry.

Honestly, this is one of the best Asian restaurants we have been in Victoria. The food is awesome and the staff is super friendly. Will definitely come again.

The best Asian food I have ever had! They use quality ingredients and very creative menu. This is my new favourite Asian restaurant. The owner comes and says hi to the tables to create a family welcoming experience. I highly recommend this place!

Fresh, fabulous, best lunch in Greater Victoria. Two sampler plate offers for 2 ($39) or more persons is exceptional. We had the non-vegetarian special - spring rolls with pickled veggies, curry chicken, spicy beef, roasted veggies, rice. Individual combo plates also avail for lunch. Perfect, prompt service. Great mix of Malaysian, Thai & Chinese dishes on the menu. I will return!

My favourite Asian restaurant of all time. I still dream of the chicken chow mein. The coconut rice is also delightful.

Really tasty food. Some items were a bit pricey I feel ($15 for small portion of veg fried rice). Friendly staff and really good options for vegetarians.

Came for dinner today, a Wednesday, and sat down and was given two menus. I didn't see the waiter show up for 10 minutes, and I didn't get a glass of water. There was just one waiter busy with his work. The boss dared to invite more people. I have to provide services but I don’t want to hire someone. I’m speechless.

So many gluten-free options, it made my celiac heart very happy! It’s been so long since i’ve had asian food like this! Server was very friendly and prices were reasonable.

So delicious, amazing service, warm environment. Highly recommended, wow the flavors were awesome. Also, delicious gluten free options!

Food here is top notch. The flavour profiles of the dishes transport you to South East Asia.

We had a delicious dinner at the Tropical Island. We ordered Lemongrass Chicken, Stir Fried Beef with garlic sauce and Singapore Curry Noodles. The staff was very courteous and service was good.

There's something everyone can find to like here! The pineapple rice and the crispy beef were delicious.

Read some reviews, thought we would give it a try. Tip.they close at 2pm. So no late lunches. So returned a few days later for dinner.
Decor is, let's say minimalist, but super clean. Service was very good. Food was great. Priced well. And the booze was happy hour prices.and I am a happy hour condesour.

Very tasty. I have been coming here for years. The basil ribs, sizzling fish and the char kuey teow are my go to favorites.

Small and neat restaurant with few tables. Furniture reminds anyone an authentic countryside resto. Ambiance is good. Ample parking.

I used to love this restaurant but their food has been really disappointing recently. Their "seafood fried rice" is not a seafood friend rice at all! It's rice and eggs! No taste whatsoever! Their satay chicken was so dry (almost like a leftover that was just warmed up in the microwave oven). The Singapore Curry Rice noodle's shrimp was only 2 pcs! What a joke! And I was paying for almost $15 per meal. I wish they will pay attention to this. I don't know if it's because most of the order I've had with them recently was a take out and not dine in. Maybe it is different when you order meals for dine-in, that way they can't get away from this kind of scheme?

Always our to go mix of Chinese, Vietnamese and Malaysian food. Always fresh and tasty. Staff are very friendly.

10/10 food & service! Was recommended this place from a friend who used to live in Victoria while travelling through. Dined in and were a little apprehensive as we had just been down having beers in the sunset at the wharf in a beautiful outdoor pub. BUT the food was flipping EXCELLENT and so true to the authenticity! I felt like I was back in the streets of Malaysia and Thailand. The waitress was so friendly also! Thank you!

Such a horrible dine out experience here! All food tastes the same and not flavoured. The entire menu is so overpriced. Tried the beef noodle soup turned out the soup tasted like soap water. This place had definitely the worst seafood in Victoria. Average waiting time is over a hour most of the time. Tried it because Recommend by a friend. So disappointed overall! Such a water of money!

The only place you can get Char kway teow on the island. It's so good and big portions for a good price. The workers and cooks are so friendly and kind! I'll drive out of my way just to have their food, it's good!

If I could get all the stars from the sky for their star rating I totally would. So good, so fresh and soo nice. My favorite: green or red coconut curry, spring rolls and their tropical beef. Get the menu sampler when u eat there. It's got all the good stuff. Get their deep fried coconut milk with honey and peanuts. Get their mango shake. Omg so delicious. I have started going to their restaurant since they opened many years ago and all my friends I tagged along to it are forever customers now too.

Ordered thru Door Dash, very disappointed. All the dishes (seafood, beef and rib) tasted the same. Portions were about half of what you would expect for the price.

Excellent food and service! I have never had a disappointing meal here, everything is delicious! The crispy free range chicken in special garlic sauce is a must have when visiting this establishment! I look forward to coming here every time!

Highly recommend this place.

I've been here probably a dozen times over the last 10 years but tonight was something special. I've had most of the notable staples that people go for here: tropical beef (with coconut rice, of course), the Singapore noodles - always good, the curries and the satay, but tonight I did the "What's she having? " as a server brought out something brown and craggly. It was an off menu fried chicken. It was so good. Very Asian spice but nothing you don't smell going to Chinatown.
Highly recommended.

Great assortment of food, really fresh! Really well done seafood. It's rare for a place not to overcook fish and shrimp, but Tropical Island does an excellent job.

Love the Malaysian fried rice and the green curry. Both super fresh.

The satay rice noodles are excellent! I also recommend their roti canai - though a rather small serving, the roti is wonderfully flaky and the sauce is sweetly spicy. So good!

Tasty food, fair prices, and great all around service. It’s my favourite casual dining experience on Shelbourne Street. I usually come here for some stir-fried noodles or rice, and always leave in a good mood.

Seriously can't tell you how the food is because it didn't come for an hour and half so I left.

Oysters could be done better. It’s quite big with different sauce options, and $7 each. Idk if they always have such big oyster, but I won’t miss the next time if they do and also finish improving the sauce too.

You must try the pineapple fried rice! Comes served in a pineapple if you eat in. It's not greasy like at other places and is both refreshing and satisfying at the same time. Basil ribs are good as well.

Straight up comfort food. It's not necessarily a fine dining experience, but one of those places you can be exceptionally fond of. A+ on the coconut rice and tropical beef.

Great food! Good portions and very friendly and attentive staff. A great spot for a family dinner, there is really something for everyone. We will be back for sure!

Their food is WAY too salty, and I didn’t get what I was paying for. I got the Tropical Beef and there was barely any meat it was all just fried batter I was eating. I will not be coming to this restaurant ever again, and I do not recommend it.

Service was excellent and food arrived unbelievably fast. Food tasted like the 1970's heavily sugared overcooked and boring American style. I like more authentic, low sugar, fresh and maybe slightly health so this was not for my taste. Kids liked it though.

Good lord, the food is soooooo good! Crispy Prawn Rolls, Spicy Basil Ribs, Pad Thai, Tropical Beef, spicy green beans, coconut rice. Friendly service. Been many times when in Victoria and always make my way back whenever we can!

Combos are a good value, they also have a vegetarian combo, it comes with spring roll appetizer, 3 dishes, rice and dessert at a great price! We will be going back!

We went here on a Saturday night for a birthday. We had a 630 reservation. After waiting 25 mins. We asked 2 people that we wanted to order and both of them told us they couldn't take food orders only drink orders. There was only 1 person that can take a food order for the whole restaurant. When we told her that we were ready to order she said she would be right back but that was not true. She brought out plates and food dishes and walked by our table several times. After waiting 35 mins she finally took our order. After an 40 mins we got some spring rolls.
We were in the restaurant for 1 1/2 hours with no food in sight. We asked the 2 servers, when our food will come. They never came back with an answer. We waited 10 more mins and decided to leave. When we were at the cash trying to pay for our drinks, I saw that the people that arrived about 20 mins ago to order food to go were getting their order.
I can't believe that after 1 1/2 hours you cannot cook a single main dish but you can cook an order for take out.
We will never go here again, unless we are willing to wait 2 hours for your food.
