HORRIBLE PLACE! AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS.

If I could give -10 stars to them, I would.
The owners Laurie and Phillip are extremely rude, unethical, unprofessional, unorganized, unhappy, do unlawful things and when you call them out about what they did, they disrespectfully talk to you, they threaten and harass you.
They forgot to bring my dog home one day, another day they didn’t pick her up, another day they called somebody else not even related to anything when I specifically gave my friend’s phone number to be called, another day they sent me private information from another member that I don’t even know, just wrong stuff after wrong stuff and when I told them, they threatened me saying if I said anything they’d do something against me through my regulated college (how stupid is that?), they don’t treat the dogs well, I never understood why my dog was always anxious and hiding behind the pillows when I said we were going to daycare, now I understand why she didn’t want to go. There are groups on facebook saying all the bad stuff they do. Please do your research before and avoid this place at all cost. Own previous staff members were saying to please look for another daycare cause how bad they are.tons of bad reviews here too from previous clients. As soon as you say something that doesn’t please them, they start being extremely rude to you and start harass you. Run away from it.
Not only this, read all their rude responses to the bad reviews. Instead of giving good customer service, listening to our concerns and complaints and learning and improving from that, all they do is not take ownership of the bad business they run and just blame clients and call them liars. Shame on you Philip and Laurie

We have been taking our female Airedale Terrier to the Urban Puppy Shop since late Winter of 2021/22 and have learned over this time that our girl is loved by all the staff. The last visit we had after picking up our pup I noticed something was off about her. The next evening I felt something on her face, a bite mark just below her right eye. We then called Urban Puppy Shop and asked if they knew anything about what we found. One of the people who answered the phone was super apologetic and said that our girl was in an unprovoked altercation from another dog (the aggressor). The person didn't mention anything happening the day before when we picked up our dog. On their terms page online, this is contrary to what occurred, we were not notified when we should have been. Days later the wound then became abscessed. We went to the vet and learned if we were notified about the bite on her face the day we picked her up we could have healed the wound below her eye and everything would have been fine. But since 24 hours had passed the chances of the tissue healing normally had gone. The vet had to shave her face to clean the wound, and we had a bill of $350,2 weeks of heavy antibiotics, ointment application, pain meds, and the cone of shame. The dog in mention that was the aggressor we learned is still going to the daycare not muzzled, we are unsure if the owners of the attacking dog were notified of what happened. We are deeply disappointed and the terms on their website release Urban Puppy of all wrongdoing. All the negative reviews should speak to this, we are sorry for our pup, and wish we took the reviews more seriously before we started taking our dog here. The vet and other professionals say we should seek compensation.

Edit:
Contrary to the offer of covering expenses for the vet visit, this is a lie, we were offered store credit. What a joke.

My dog used to go to Dogtopia in Coquitlam since she was a puppy and absolutely loved going to daycare. No hesitations at all when we would arrive and the staff just absolutely loved it there. When we moved, I took her to this daycare and she was absolutely terrified about going in. I had never seen my dog more miserable about going to daycare and every time she would come home she would be so thirsty and would smell like pee. Saw on a FB post from a previous attendant that they do not interact with dogs there, they rarely change the water in the bowls and they would get lucky if all dogs got at least a walk in (Which they should be getting two). Do not recommend if you love your dog.

They are very nice to my little Sammy when he visits, and they are open on weekends, which is a huge bonus.

Terrible owners who treat their staff horribly. Should not be allowed to take care of other people’s dogs if they cannot even treat humans with care and respect. Please don’t leave your dogs with these people and find a respectable business that truly cares about dogs and people.

One stop shop. Puppy Classes, Grooming and Daycare. Rates & Hours are good for daycare and the staff is very friendly.
Had one situation where my doodle came home with a trauma to his eye, another where his food was given to another dog and he didn’t eat at all and he also got kennel cough another time. These things happen but worth noting it’s a busy spot.
I still give this place a 3 overall as we have used all their services.

If you have a pittie or by the sounds of it, a few type of breeds. Save your time and go elsewhere,
They don't accept them. This is probably a blessing in disguise as I see an incline in their business reputation.

If I were you I would check the glassdoor reviews from previous staff before sending your dog here

Protect your pups and stay away from this place! The owner is incredibly rude. I feel bad for the staff who work here and you can tell it is a toxic work environment with the amount of turnover. My dog came back with scratches and red marks on multiple occasions.

Great service, pick up drop off available! The owner seems to really love the dogs. The facility itself is spotless, well organized and big dogs are separated from the little fur babies️
20 January 2022 18:39
Our dog came home multiple times with bad scratches. We were never informed of any untoward incidents that happened when we went to pick her up

After specifically requesting to be informed of any gashes/scratches/wounds to the dog during the day they missed 2 the very next time. The owner seems to want no responsibility and is happy to let any dog be harmed in their establishment.

For whatever "supervision" is provided make sure to body check your dog if they end up in this place. The team doesn't find it necessary to keep an eye on the dog's safety and inform you about it. The staff doesn't seem trained, owner is reckless and facility can't handle the number of dogs they're taking on.

Have trusted urban puppy with my dog since she was just a few months old. She is always happy to go and the staff always great us warmly. The bark bus is an added bonus if you aren't able to drop off, or pick up your pet.
10 December 2021 19:28
We drop off our dog 1-2 a week. Offer full and part time. No appointments required and can buy sessions in advance. Our dog comes out of there totally tuckered out from all the play time she gets

Highly professional, and service is great.

I only wish that I could see how our puppy was doing during his stay.

Urban Puppy is extremely flexible and caring. Thumbs up to them. My dog was very happy staying with them several times

I've been taking my dog, Toby, a German Shorthaired pointer here since he was a puppy! I was blown away by their welcoming atmosphere the first time I dropped him off for his 2 hour trial with them and now almost 2 years later he still absolutely loves going here! The whole team is so excited to see him every time we go in! I can't express what a relief it is to drop him there on busy work days and know that I'll finish my day with a tired happy dog. I would highly recommend them!
10 July 2021 14:10
Our golden retriever, Daisy, has been going to daycare and getting private walks since she was a pup. To say she LOVES it is an understatement! Can't wait to get up the stairs and inside. Most importantly, I feel she gets a lot of love in return while she's there.
04 July 2021 20:29
My dog had an amazing time at the Urban Puppy Shop! I was in the process of moving provinces and needed some daycare for just over a week. They treated Schooner like she was a long term attendee and were always really sweet with her. 10/10 would recommend. Prices are reasonable, and really with being able to drop off as early as 630am and pick up as late as 8pm, this is really a no brainer!

BREED SPECIFIC RULES

We have an adorable staffie cross which we planned to bring to this day care.
Starting at the initial call, as soon as we mentioned that she is a "pittie" breed we felt unwelcome.
I did mentioned that she is well socialized, has lots of day care Expirience (20 + visitis)
And lots of boarding Expirience (10+visits)
Daily visit in dog parks
And never had single issue.

Following me seeing that this day care has several 1 star reviews due to breed specific restrictions I requested to talk to the owner
Prior bringing my pup for day one.

The owner was very "chatty" basically being busy telling me how great is his buisness and stating that they are doing it for 20+ years so they know everything ha ha (by the way Macdonalds is asuccessful business for many years but it does not means the are good)

He clearly said " we have breed restrictions here" which is not mentioned anywhere in the web site. But said they will do us a favor, "exception" by bringing our pup for a trial.

Over all we felt unwelcome and we decided not to bring our puppy in.we should focus on not discriminating humans or dogs by there color breed or the shape of their head.

And not using "safety" as excuse for our wrong precautions of things.

We recently moved to Vancouver and were recommended The Urban Puppy by a family member. We have a very well behaved, well socialized Staffy mix and we immediately felt judged and unwelcome just based on her breed. The owner of Urban Puppy didn't take into account behaviour and was very judgemental of the breed overall. We have brought our dog to different daycares in the past and have had 0 issues, but the staff and owner at the Urban Puppy didn't want to take this into consideration. There is nothing on their website about breed specific restrictions, and we were very disappointed to find out that they hold breed specific views. We were made to feel unwanted and unwelcome to do even the two hour trial. After this we decided not to bring our pup here. We want to feel welcome and we want to make sure our girl is not judged differently than any other dog. I wouldn't recommend this place if you don't want to support a business that is breed specific and judgemental.

I was going to bring my 7 month old puppy here over the weekend as her brother had a booked appointment. I was shocked and appalled to hear from her brother’s owners that Joey and Nala were not welcome because they were mastiffs, which this daycare considers a “fighting breed”. Anyone who knows anything about dogs should know that Mastiffs are gentle, non aggressive dogs with lovely temperaments. Furthermore, discriminating against dogs based off of breed is appalling for any dog affiliated shelter to do as there is A LOT of research that says it comes down to how the owners raise them. I will never bring a dog here and would recommend that everyone else does the same.

Ps: these dogs look like they’re vicious right? Give me a break.

Caring, knowledgeable and friendly staff providing an extensive and excellent service. My pup is so excited to go to daycare, and is happy and tired upon her return.

My dog is always very happy going in and coming out! Sometimes he has an odour to him and I have to bath him. I bring him consistently and the staff is very accommodating and friendly.

I've been bringing my nearly two year old portie since she's been a pup. She is so eager to join the other dogs when I drop her off. I've received great advice and vet referrals from the owners. Awesome value for daylong daycare too.

I’ve had six months of ups & downs with the urban puppy. We were warned from the beginning that bully breeds are typically banned from this establishment however it’s a case to case basis.

The biggest reason we continued to use UP is because it opens early & both my partner & I work very early which makes it convenient to take our dog too.

However I find the lack of communication is difficult & it should be documented & notes should be sent home to the owners when/ if incidents happen. My partner had received a single verbal comment upon pick up one day regarding the question of, “are you planning to neuter your dog? If so, when? ” Today I received a phone call letting me know that my dog was banned for the unseeable future due to needing to be neutered & too much for their staff to handle. The big points being his size however I have seen dogs bigger than him there. As well as his “aggressive nature”. He is the biggest baby & although he may have a booming bark he is far from vicious. He’s never bit a single person & we have never experienced aggressive behaviour. We take him to many dog parks as well as other daycares & haven’t had a single issue but I guess a bark can be scary to someone who may not understand it.

For other issues our dog has been hospitalized in the past & taken to emergency due to a virus our vet thought most likely came from UP. While our dog was fully vaccinated they never once asked to see proof of his shots which means not every dog may have their shots there. When we called to let them know what had happened & not even putting blame directly on them but just to let them know we were made to feel as if we had brought a dirty dog into UP. That the virus couldn’t have possibly come from anyone there. After he was on the mend & good to be at a daycare again I didn’t want to use the daycare however my partner had said things happen & we should give it another try due to the convenience of its hours.

He would come home on the regular with scratches & cuts on & around his face, with some of them taking weeks to heal. I understand dogs play & little nicks can easily happen but if it’s on the daily are they not being watched properly?

The staff is friendly enough but now after all of this I will question the level of training everyone in this facility has.

I 100% recommend Urban puppy daycare! My moms golden retriever Billie comes once or twice a week and my mom and I couldn't be more impressed! The staff are super friendly. And of course Billie loves it there and comes home tired. My mom even said how the other day when she picked Billie up one of the staff was on the floor with Billie giving her kisses saying Billie is my favourite.

Our dog was always nervous and feisty around other dogs, so we were apprehensive about leaving him while we visited the Vancouver Aquarium. But he had so much fun!

Worst place ever! DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE! If i could rate this place with no stars I would. Very bad experience the first time I Boarded my dog here for a few nights, then ended up with $300 vet bill for medication, second time I picked him up and hes injured. You cant see what happens when they "care" for your dog and what goes on after you give your dog to them, absolutly very very rude staff and extremely rude owner. There is deffinealy a reason why people pay more money to board their dogs at a better place, so that they dont have to deal with this these unexceptable situations. Save your self and your dog and DO NOT GO HERE.
01 April 2019 18:28
Beware - this facility doesn't allow certain breeds. Such a bummer considering I've heard good things. Sorry to hear that they discriminate against bully breeds.
15 March 2019 7:31
I was just there purchasing a few things for my dog and to note, I've been here before for my family dog's grooming many times prior to this visit. I was greeted with a staff member who's energy and welcome level was lower than a zombie.

While she may know her product knowledge, my shopping experience was anything but a positive lasting one. Makes me wonder why I even went there in the first place. I should've just bit the bullet and dealt with the hassle to spend more time and more money at PET SMART where the staff are WAY friendlier and welcoming.

You've lost this customer's repeat business.

We do dog walks and daycare through this shop. The staff are friendly and know our dog by name. The dog is always happy when he sees we're going to urban puppy so clearly they take good care of him. Would recommend!

My bulldog Lucy ran away from my home about a month ago - when a wind storm had flung my gate open. I came home to no pup. I was devastated and so were my children.

The Urban Puppy staff were on thier regular dog walking route in my neighbourhood and found this little bulldog running around the neighbourhood without its owner.

They immediately got her in to their van for safety. They took her back with open arms and kept her safe until I was able to locate her.

Laurie and her staff had immediately posted Lucy’s photo on social media, Craigslist, radio announcements, and put up posters in the neighbourhood. With community cooperation and care, she was found! Amazing.

When I called Laurie she insisted I provide proof of registration, as she is correct, there are a lot of strange people out there. I was so impressed with how passionate Laurie was to ensure matching lost dogs with their rightful owner.

We picked her up that day and thrilled and touched at the care she received while at Urban Puppy. They were incredibly kind to have washed her as well as Lucy likes to roll around in our garden bed frequently. I asked to pay Laurie and she declined the offer.

All I can say is how grateful I am to Laurie and all her wonderful staff at Urban Puppy. An incrediblely professional, yet community, feel to the place. You won’t get better love and care.

My dog had gone there a few times and then on one visit he came back with significant scratches on his nose. They took no responsibility and acted like it was no big deal, and could not tell me what happened to my dog that day. The owners were really rude about the incident and touched my dogs wounded nose, it was infuriating. It was a horrible experience. My dog was always super anxious before going. Luckily his wound healed with the help of my vet. Never going back there again. They offer no viewing of the back so it is hard to know how many dogs are there per staff and nobody seemed trained. Awful!
