The Three Bridges Community of Care Saved My Life and Continues to Save and Improve Lives Everyday:
7 years ago I arrived in Vancouver in search of LGBTQ+ healing spaces to begin a journey toward recovery from a life of complex trauma, mental illness and substance use. A simple search led me to Three Bridges (the old location whose spirit still lives on in the care teams and long term clientele.)
Over the years I accessed the youth clinic (now relocated), Primary Care, Substance Use Services (Including VAMP Day Treatment) and Harm Reduction. While there are inevitably some operational issues with a Health Centre of this size and complexity, the quality of care I received was excellent and ultimately life saving. I know they continue to try to improve services and access for those in need.
Counsellors, social workers, medical staff and support workers all demonstrated a high degree of empathy, compassion and care. I say often that it was this community that 'loved me into loving myself. ' Having lived with chronic mental illness for most of my life up to that point; feeling unsafe, unheard, unseen and alienated from my own humanity, Three Bridges and the healing spaces within it (like Laurie's meditations, Buddhist recovery groups, and counselling rooms) became a place of refuge for me. They continue to be to this day.
To all the care professionals who work at Three Bridges and dedicate their lives to supporting our community, thank you. Never forget the life-saving power of the work that you do and the care that you provide.
It can feel at times that there are barriers to accessing the Health Centre and services (intake processes, wait times, screening protocols etc.) but if you are eligible for services and do end up receiving care there, I hope it proves as healing and reparative as it has been for me.

Disrespectful service because i was just 15 minutes late with my 4 months old son. Considering that in the first appointment for his 2 months i had with them they made me wait for 30 minutes.
Thanks for nothing Three Bridges Community Health! Mediocre like all public health in Canada! Please, Keep raising the bar like this gives me more reasons to leave this country

Super caring and patient nurses at the triage care. Kristina, Natasha and Laurie were the nicest and sweetest nurses I have encountered. I have had better care at the 3 bridges than VGH. Thank you for the wound care and your patience with me.:)
