Good selection of foods and friendly people to serve us. I always like to see the savings in the food I need

A grocery store is a grocery store is a grocery store. Definitely NOT the Island-based, family-owned gem it used to be.
04 February 2023 13:52
Well laid out store. Well stocked considering the supply issues. Easy check out even with staff shortages.
04 November 2022 1:54
This is my local grocery store and it’s by far my least favourite Thriftys in town. There are always huge lineups for the cashier and the stock is very hit and miss, especially in the produce section. Staff are friendly but the store layout is awful.

Quaint little store. Standard Thrifty niceness in microcosm. Bakery is much better than Cobb's.
03 September 2022 13:10
So sick and worn out with their prices. $13.00 for a med/sm watermelon for starters.every where else soooo much cheaper for groceries.it's gross
05 August 2022 20:33
Sweet store. I like Thrifty's, although many items are not 'thrifty'. They make good sushi.
02 August 2022 8:34
I have been a longtime shopper
at Thrifty’s but find it has really gone down recently. Today I bought several things but the Romane lettuce was filthy and the cucumber mushy at one end! The last time I was there the baking potatoes I got were
black down the middle. The bananas were also black in the middle!

I am 90 years old and no longer drive so cannot go to your much better store at Hillside!

Thrifty Foods is an Island staple and even though they are owned by Sobeys it good to support then as they support Vancouver Island.
28 April 2022 7:18
One of the pricier and busier grocery stores in Victoria that isn't centered around organic foods, but the layout is quite nice and the check out is relatively smooth and quick. The meat section is solid and the food is fresh, unlike Fairway Markets. Really solid bakery and hot foods section. But they don't have grits or many options for tahini.
09 April 2022 15:59
Thrifty’s is not what it used to be. It’s time to change the name to Sobeys!
The helpful, friendly service of years past is gone. And, the product choices are becoming increasingly limited to the lesser quality Sobeys brand - Compliments.
Where is the replacement for Thrifty’s?
09 November 2021 8:17
Best grocery store I’ve been to. They have a great meat selection and a wide variety of fresh produce, bakery, and cooking sauces.
23 October 2021 5:29
First rate grocery store! Great in house bakery, super meat dept with dry aged beef, cut the way you like, and the very best produce department with lots of locally grown veggies. Think this was their first store too. Island grown hospitality plus they always have enough cashiers working, no line up to pay for your items, I like that.
22 September 2021 8:08
Parking can be challenging because of the business of the lot. I tend to part a few rows over from the store and then walk to it. Excellent separate floral shop. Can be somewhat crowded in the store, especially if at a high shopping time.
06 September 2021 11:45
Always good. Fresh baked bread and fresh sushi. Nice veggies and always helpful, reliable staff.
23 July 2021 14:42
Always a great shopping experience, great customer service and good selection of local products including The Very Good Butchers plant based meats! Keep up the good work and plant-based products coming in!
02 July 2021 8:14
My favorite thrifty food's in town, friendly staff & have most of everything I'm looking for.
02 June 2021 22:27
Bright and clean store in the heart of Fairfield. The store is open early and stays open late for convenience. The shelves are always stocked well and all items are fresh at all times. The staff are lovely and helpful.
25 January 2021 21:38
Pleasant Staff. Good seafood section, as well as produce section. Practiced social distancing. Lots of sale items offered.
13 January 2021 10:30
The lineup is usually at least 5-6 people waiting and still continues to be! Its a great store:)
22 December 2020 1:14
I waited 20 min in line because of a new cashier and a woman that couldn't figure out her credit card number. I think she should have been moved to customer service instead of holding up the line for so long. Started my day off terribly
19 November 2020 10:04
I was taking grandbaby (11.5 months) for a walk in the rain. She was hungry so I stopped in to buy berries for her to tide her over for the rest of the walk until dinner. The cashier suggested I talk to Sam B in customer service to help me get the berries washed so I could feed them to her right away. Sam did not hesitate to help and quickly washed the berries. Thank you Sam B. You were patient, kind and efficient!

Great staff and great service for a large grocery store chain based entirely in British Columbia. (To the best of my knowledge)
10 November 2020 21:07
First time ever visiting a Thrifty's market, and it was a great experience. Fresh produce, large selection of cheeses, and friendly service. Also had a lovely chat outside with Patrick, who was putting away all the shopping carts; whilst my partner and I waited for our taxi cab.
04 October 2020 1:33
Horrible parking lot, and the fruit and veggies tend to spoil fast, but very convenient location and the employees are friendly.
02 October 2020 18:04
Since Sobeys took over everything is terrible (except the service, a legacy from when the c amobells owned it). So few vegan options.we mostly shop elsewhere. Higher prices. Less selection. Bad policies. You can homogenize a grocery chain across a province. Must be done by neighbourhood like it used to be. Sobeys ruined a good grocery store.
12 August 2020 2:24
Good selection, senior hours 7-8 a.m, floor markers and arrows, food salts starting Thursdays, big bicycle rack near front doors
10 August 2020 8:23
Well organized to keep thinking people at the appropriate distance. Those little arrows on the floor are meant to be seen and obeyed fellow customers.

I had placed an online order for my mother yesterday and i made the delivery time for today and the order came in the correct time frame but they forgot my milk, even though they didn’t charge me they could of called to inform me if they were out of the milk I wanted.it was a bit disappointing. They also charged me an additional $4.95 for a packing fee which was not specified online, the only fee it said I would be charged is a delivery fee of $3.00. The delivery man seemed rushed and wasn’t the best customer service experience. This is why i rated 2 stars.
21 June 2020 20:56
Store is well set up. But for some reason both this Thriftys and James bay Thriftys boasts very rude staff.
21 May 2020 3:44
Over a week ago I lined up to get into the Fairfield store then entered when it was my turn. After travelling a few meters inside the store I was abruptly stopped by an employee by placing his hand on my chest. He then said I couldn't enter and escorted me back to the lineup and asked if I had been first in line so I lined up again. Later that night the incident remained on my mind so I wrote to the store about the event and have yet to hear back. I am so angry due to this incident I have been shopping elsewhere and without incident I would add. If this is the mentality of certain of their staff, I will continue shop elsewhere even after the Covid crises is over.

Its all about Thriftys in Victoria! I think they just meet the needs of the community with the types of foods that they sell, the service and where they are located. Fairfield Thriftys is my neighbourhood grocery store and I am always there. It's always packed which kind of drives me crazy, but what can you do.
12 April 2020 16:21
It's the only place I'll shop. I walk over 30 minutes, each way to get here. Super friendly staff as well as customers. Great prices, selection and produce. Super bakery dept.
06 April 2020 3:10
Staff is doing an outstanding job. Keeping the shelves stocked, the tills moving all with a smile. Thank you
05 March 2020 5:12
Poor costume services, especially deli server, also bakery department, the braed is dried very quick.
04 January 2020 6:36
Great range of products. Great staff, and lots of them! Well trained in service - bonus! Easy parking, lots of tills for checking out - better yet, no 'self service'. 19 years shopping here.
26 December 2019 8:04
Terribly over priced! On everything! Fairways is the only Grocer that you can call a Community Grocery store that is somewhat affordable still. Shame

Fairfield Thrrify Food’s, I I have lived in this neighborhood over 35 years and been a loyal customer, tonight I went in and I saw that you had one of my favorite things you have at Christmas time your white chocolate shortbread and they were absolutely awful sadly. I normally serve them at my salon to give as gifts but it was raw inside so now I have to go all the way back to your store, and return them which I don’t have a lot of time in my day to do that so from now on I’m not going to be buying any of your baked goods anymore.
It isn’t the first time this has happened and I’m finding your quality Has really gone down and the service in the store is absolutely not the way it used to be. Something needs to change or otherwise people are starting to go other places where they do price matching like Walmart, save on foods, superstore so you better step up your game because your quality, your service your lack of caring for the customers in our neighbourhood has really gone down and I’m a business owner, you need to step her game up.

OVER PRICED UNTRAINED STAFF. Clearly proper training of staff in helpful customer service is not a priority for the owners or management at Fairfield Thrifty Foods. You're lucky to get a "you're welcome" from some of the younger ones. Others are so entitled that asking them a simple question will send these snowflakes over the edge. The older staff can be quite helpful and courteous, but it's not a priority for management to train younger ones in this very important part of representing their store. To me there's an attitude that people will shop there regardless, so why should they make an effort. Well I'll tell you why. There's Fairways, Save On, Whole Food, Oxford Foods, China Town, Wal-Mart, that's why and they care, and they show it.
03 November 2019 15:33
Absolutely everything we bought that was locally made or grown was 5 star. From the produce to fresh meats to dairy. Customer service was superior in all departments. Wish we had this store in North Carolina, I would shop exclusive. Thank you for doing what you do. ️
24 October 2019 8:09
Good deals on a few special things, but they don't carry a lot items I want. Staff are friendly but not very worried about traffic jams in the narrow aisles. If you enjoy spending a lot of time shopping, the experience may be fine, but I can get more items quicker at other stores further from home.
19 October 2019 6:21
It's hard to access things in the produce department. You have to park your cart away and try to make your way through real chaos. And you keep stumbling over clerks scattered everywhere in the grocery store and blocking aisles. It's obvious we bother their employees. It also appears that it's ok for their employees to run fast around customers when they have to move from A to B. Never seen a deli clerk available behind the counter. You have to wait, ask and complain to be served. Seriously, I prefer the other location in James Bay. The Fairfield Thrifty Foods is the worst experience you can expect while shopping in a grocery store on the Island.
12 October 2019 16:41
Helpful staff and well maintained. Great deli, fresh fish and butcher. Fast check out. Store size results in less selection on some items. Usually parking available.
20 September 2019 9:06
I've been shopping at Fairfield Thriftys since it opened. Until it sold to Sobeys it was my favorite grocery store. In the last while I've seen more changes in the foods they carry, and we are finding that they are getting more and more expensive. However the staff have remained very pleasant and always willing to help. If their prices continue to rise and our favorite foods are no longer available however, we may find ourselves looking elsewhere more often. I do have a lot of customer loyalty, and will always shop there quite often.
07 September 2019 5:56
Nothing like it used to be before Sobeys bought it. I now go out of my way shop at Save On or Country Grocer. Now it's only good for "cherry picking".
12 August 2019 18:04
Best of the Thrifty's Stores. Best selection, best service, best flowers, lots of parking. In the same mall there is a Pub (Ross Bay Pub), hardware store, Pharmacy, Post office, gas station close by. They even have a Japanese restaurant!
20 February 2019 4:08
This is my least favorite Thrifty's on the island. Talk about cramped! Watch out for uppity boomers elbowing their way to the organics section. Drive a few minutes to James Bay Thrifty's for a less stressful experience with more selection.
05 January 2019 11:54
Very Nice Store it’s busy most of the time The Very First Thrifty Foods Store Nice Friendly Helpful Staff
07 December 2018 12:12
Thriftys has great produce, good meet and seafood. This means you will notice a premium on the prices. Most locations have a bakery and a butcher. Most locations are generally busy.
