Thrifty Foods

Just wanted to share that I'm always on the hunt for a good carrot cake and Thrifty's has an awesome one but it's TOO SWEET! I would buy it weekly if it wasn't so sweet. Why why why please change it

This is my favorite Grocer in Parksville.
Huge selection, fresh Seafood, beautiful flower Shop, excellent Bakery, and on site Pharmacy. Nestled in a great location right downtown.
Staff is always helpful, and the prices are middle of the road.

Always a pleasant shopping experience at this location super friendly and willing to take the time to ensure that you find what you are looking for.

Thrifty Foods is one of the "big three" food stores in Parksville, which includes Save-On and Quality Foods.
Thrifty's has a large deli, tempting baked goods, great produce, a sizeable florist selection and very friendly staff.
My only complaint is that since Sobey's took over, we get their house brand items, which I feel are inferior.

It's probably the best grocery store around, prices and service above the others in this area.

It's a great place to go when you're camping at Rathtrevor to go and get ice, food, or any other camping materials, this place is also good for anyone who isn't able to buy expensive products, like choices.this place has the cheapest groceries in Parksville I'd say and there's a lot of food to choose from, I don't have photos tho.

This place is incredible. They have a great selection of product, they have one of the best rewards systems that is available and here they support local, there are a lot of BC products available here. My criticism is the customer service at times. There have been multiple occasions where the staff have treated me with disrespect.

Great place to shop, they have the best fish and meat anywhere. Good deals on some products. Cashier's are very pleasant.

The "Brad" working customer service was really feeling his inner "Karen".

Directly in front of the customer service booths I couldn't find the price on the potato chips so I asked.

He snipplily said "nope. I guess I'd have to scan them now won't I? "

I figured he meant scan and put up a price so I did my shopping and came back to him to ring up my groceries.

I asked how much the potato chips were?

He stated he didn't know.

I asked if he scanned them?

He seemed really frustrated by that so I asked if he was upset

That set him off.

I asked why he didn't put a price up then?

Said it wasn't his job

So why not give someone the info?

Again.not his job.

He then proceeded to tell 4x how he was just fine

As I was leaving I grabbed the chips for him to scan but he was standing with other employees talking rudely and loudly about me.

I'm so confused and kind of regret always shopping here now.

That left a really bad taste in my mouth.

I can't compare Canadian prices with Italian supermarket prices, but the vast choice of products is unmatched even by our best hypermarkets. There is everything from hot and cold ready meals to an extensive choice of desserts (see photo).

It was nice to shop early, not many people at 7.45am
Parking lot nearly empty.
My Thrifty's is nicely laid out.
Lots of fresh produce.
I'm now using the Scene card.
Laila was lovely at check out.
She packed my bags carefully and not too heavy.
A good day so far.

Staff gave me wrong directions to the pharmacy. Once there the pharmacist was absolutely great.

It's a grocery store, and yes if you're not from the island you've noticed how expensive it is here. That aside, they do the bare minimum to serve when asked, overall. Some staff really are amazing, most others are non serviced based employees there for a paycheck. On conversation with the duty manager recently, when trying to provide feedback on my experience, she really didn't want to hear it. I began to tell her about my awkward experience and how I was spoken to when asking a simple question, and her response was I'm happy to have him. Great, as toy should be, but if you'd acknowledge my concern first, that may have been a more timely response. I go there for convenience, but they sure are not the only show in town. She appears to have forgotten that. Leadership in business should be based on providing service first and also treating your staff like humans, and leading them to do the same. A mostly forgotten art.

Staff are as always great, but prices, not so much. Sobeys fundamentally changed Thrifty’s ……. Sad

Great store. My issue is with staff shortage. I waited nearly 30 min for help at the deli. This is not the staff’s fault. It’s time to pay people a living wage! Perhaps then you can find and retain employees.

If you're self-catering in Parksville, then this place has pretty much all that you'll need.

All I can tell ya.is WHOM EVER DESIGNS THESE PARKING LOTS. NEEDS TO HAVE THIER HEAD EXAMINED!

What’s happened? This used to be such a great store. And it used to be competitively priced with other local alternatives. Not anymore! Some really big price hikes. And from week to week. Eg one week 6 hit cross buns $3.99. Next week &6.99 ($3.99 at QF). So many examples. The other day strawberries were $4 more than the store up there street for a pound. And I can never buy a lotto ticket at the cashes. Some weeks I am told “it’s down”. Last week its “ our wifi is too weak so it doesn’t work”. So no longer can buy them at Thriftys. But they have a machine to check your tickets. Today I was in for milk etc and machine to check tickets did not work, I was told it had been turned off. I Give up.

This establishment has fully operational self checkouts and keeps them closed. Doesnt make any sense. Very inconvenient for people who only need a couple of items. But thats okay, the selection at Thifties bombs in comparison to QF or Save On Foods, so we wont be back

This rating is for the lovely lady that works at the Deli. She worked there today (May 22) at around 8: 30pm. Please do something nice for her. It is not easy to be working as hard as she does and to be so kind when in customer service roles. Thank you
