Hummus had gone bad, tasted like bacteria. There was no expiry date and was made in Victoria it says, who knows how lng ago.

David went above and beyond, this morning. He helped me find what I needed, gave advice on topics that don't fall into his job description, and while I was in the parking lot, he ran out the door to return a phone to a woman who had left it behind when making a purchase. THAT is great service.

The Deli workers are just incompetent who can't even warm a sandwich. There are no salads to choose by weight and in it is all pre-weighted in containers which not ideal. There is no deli salami, ham, bacon or turkey, most meats are already bought sliced and not even sliced in store.

This is a very well stocked store, in a beautiful area where you can do lots of walking and shopping. The prices were good compared to Vancouver and the local produce and fruit was very nice. The downfall is that the Scene app doesn't work in store or outside the store. But this has nothing to do with the store and all to do with the frustrating and useless app.
Thanks to the kind cashiers with kind words regarding this frustration ️

I found the prices high and managers rude. But not as rude as Thrifties liquor store where they are prejudice against pretty much all locals labelling them as parkies. I personally stay away from any place called Thifys anything I think that work means cheap products over priced with horrible customer service.

Just got some on sale ground beef and am super excited to find a really quality product that I’m happy to serve to my family. No corners cut and I appreciate that. Cheers

This is a great place to shop and the staff are fantastic! Items sold here, nowhere else on island!

Great variety of wines and local ciders. Above all, the storekeeper James was most welcoming, friendly and helpful. The moment he learned I was a tourist visiting for the first time, he recommended a couple of places to visit and to dine at.

Generally helpful, friendly down home staff; good selection, and very reasonable prices for an island. Parking is tight, and last time I had to go to the service desk because two different items on my receipt turned out to have higher prices than were on the shelf labels, costing me $5 extra; it took about 15 minutes with waiting in line but they figured it out and gave me 2 of the 3 items free, cheerfully. This was the last day of their weekly prices, so it seems the errors were running a week.

I love this thriftys on Saltspring. Everyone is so friendly plus all my favorite foods.
Mostly I just enjoy the friendliness of the staff.

I really like their selection of fresh produce. The store is well-stocked and has lots of other unique items you might not expect to find i.e. Fresh whole vanilla beans. (I was surprised!) The liquor store upstairs is convenient for those who partake. There is no real pharmacy section as far as I could see. You have to go to Country Grocer for those items. Overall, clean and organized store with cheerful staff.

Ganges.what can I say. One of the best "little/big" grocery stores I've ever seen on an Island.
The misconception is that it's "pricey" Not so. Before cruising on our sailboat, I used to provision up on Vancouver island before setting sail. Now, we wait until we arrive in Ganges. Thrifty foods is right at the marina.
I shop by taking advantage of "in-store specials and the deli is a perfect place to pick up prepared foods, so that I don't spend 50% of my time in the galley, but rather sailing with my Captain and crew.
The familiar faces of your staff are always welcoming and somehow recognize that we are just visiting.
The addition of the liquor store upstairs is a great added convenience, after all, what would a sailboat adventure be without a bottle of rum?
See you in the spring!

I enjoy my shopping experiences at Thrifty Foods when I go. It's a little pricey, however, there's good selection, friendly helpful staff and one of the few chains I can find English Bay Battercookie dough.

Thifty Foods Salt Spring is the only big grocery store you can find at Salt Spring Island. They have all the products they serve in the other thifty foods stores in the Victoria and main land.

Good food selection and its affordable. If you are visiting from the city, don't bring food just buy from here. (Assuming you're going to buy from a chain supermarket.)

WOW, where to begin? You'll pay triple or more for simple essentials, the supervisor treats the employees like dogs by going so far as to publicly yell at them for 'not having the right mentality to work here because you are too happy of a person', which lead to an interesting side conversation about how, on 2 occasions, there was food dropped on the floor and this same female manager (Stacy or Tracy or something like that) picked up the food off the floor and quickly served it to a customer; as if nobody noticed.
Basically, a lack of local competition has cause this potentially good location to fester into a greedy little pig sty. When I come in here, the employees have an aura of dread and it's a field of frowns is all I see. It's to the point where the employees don't even acknowledge customers as they come up to the deli counter. Their moral is so low, it's like watching zombies shuffle about the store. If you can go ANYWHERE else and give a Respectable business your money, do it. Maybe when a dignified company who cares about it's customers and employees, not just trying to milk us for money and abuse people, maybe then they will change that horrid supervisor, lower prices, and run the business like a good honest place. Till then, They don't deserve your dollar!

Overall I like the healthy selections of food Thriftys has available to the regular everyday Canadian shoppers. This visit today was during the heart of winter in a blizzard snow storm. I was told Thriftys stays open till. 9pm but it was closed before 8. I found this upsetting. But I understand that the manager or whoever ran the store made a wise decision for the workers to go home early during the night of this horrendous storm.

I needed some food and household supplies to survive the storm. But it was sadly closed early.

Everyone that worked here seemed friendly and in bright spirits despite the bad sbowy conditions. I'll still certainly shop here for groceries. As long as I'm on Salt Spring during my vacation.
