Tofino Sea Kayaking

We went to the cafe for a coffee and a slice of carrot cake on a very rainy day. We didn't expect such a great exchange with the owner. This conversation really enriched us and left a lasting impression on us. If you have time, talk to Jon, it's very worth it!

I LOVED my experience with Tofino Sea Kayaking. I did the 2.5 hour harbour tour with a few friends and our instructor Hailey was fantastic. She shared some super interesting information about the local area throughout the tour and always had an eye out for interesting wildlife. I'd love to go again next time I'm in Tofino.

We did the West Coaster 4 hour tour with Neil and it was incredible. The company provide you with everything you might need for the tour - rain jackets, waterproof phone pouches, waterproof shoes and dry bags for your other belongings. There is also a lockbox at their office for small valuables.

Neil was really knowledgeable and shared loads of interesting facts about the local islands and the sea wildlife.

It was our first time kayaking properly and it all felt very safe and secure.

A really memorable experience, highly recommend.

The kayak tour with Lewis was really fantastic! We were a small group of 6 people and thanks to Lewis we had a lot of fun. He really tried hard, we learned a lot and he managed to ensure that we had a great afternoon. All of this was only topped by the outstanding weather and we even saw an otter:)
We would book the tour with him again at any time!

I was lucky enough to be in the remote kayak tour with Johanna and Kelly (spelling? Callie? - you Canadians have such funny accents - hard for us Aussies to understand sometimes).
They were fantastic. We had a group with paddling skills from beginner to reasonably proficient and they looked after all admirably.
And then there was the environment. Absolutely stunning. Such an awesome part of the world. Our guides gave expert advice on flora, fauna and history of the area.

Do not select this company if you have anybody in your group that does not speak English. It has been the worst experience I have ever had in my 26 years in Canada. I would put 0 or even negative stars if I could.

I wanted to treat my extended family to a kayak experience. Of our group of 5,2 were fluent in English, 3 spoke only French. The manager refused to accept 2 of the non English speakers on the trip invoking safety reasons. He ignored the fact that even though the third person said he understood when he spoke slowly, he had totally misunderstood the manager. In fact, he didn't realize the manager was saying that his wife and son could not join us on the trip. He thought the manager was suggesting to split so the 2 fluents could translate. Amazingly, the manager had no issues wih him going on the trip. Very safe indeed if safety was actually the reason!
The manager asked us to decide to either go on the 4hrs Kayaking trip without the two he identified, or cancel and not get refunded. Considering the condescending attitude of the manager during the evaluation I chose to cancel. We were refunded only the 2 persons the manager had identified as non English-speaking.
Before leaving I gently suggested that it would be important to indicate that they do not accept non English speakers on the website. The manager's response was that the site is written in English so it is implied.

So if you have non native English speakers in your kayaking party, I recommend strongly you select Paddle West Kayaking instead. They took us all, we had a French guide so I didn't need to translate, and they were excellent! BTW, they were OK with us translating if the French guide was not available for our trip.

My wife and I really enjoyed the Meares Island trip. Although we are not experts at kayaking- you could tell these guys know what they’re doing for the whole operation. We felt safe, informed and had a really fun trip. Our guide- Gigi was very knowledgeable about kayaking and the environment we were in. We did many different activities on our British Columbia trip and I wanted to try sea kayaking when we were in Tofino. It was a great experience!

Great tour! We had an exciting and yet easeful trip to Meares Island with two other couples. Since we have a lot of experience we picked single kayaks and enjoyed the review and helpful orientation provided by the tour guide. Gigi, the guide, was great. It’s clear she cares deeply for the deep history and First Nations, presenting the tour through a post-colonial lens. And her steady and competent guidance through a couple high-current navigations put our occasional kayak anxiety to ease. We highly recommend.

Really fun tour of the beautiful Tofino harbour area. We had a great guide who was friendly and knowledgeable and looked after everyone really well.

A truly excellent adventure and perfect way to spend an afternoon with the family. A great mix of sea kayaking and hiking among the giant trees on Mears Island, and very interesting and informative on both fronts.

Did the intro kayak to Meares island with Bryce as a guide. It is well organized and outfitted with a small group allowing for attention from the guide when needed.

Easy online booking. Beautiful and convenient location with a coffee shop. John the manager has an infectious positive energy. Laurence our kayak guide was knowledgeable and lovely. All gear provided (rain coat, rain pants, rain boots, band for glasses, waterproof cases for phones, pfd). I rarely get wet when I kayak in lakes and rivers, but I recommend the rain boots and rain pants for a comfortable and dry outing. They're very conscientious of everyone's skill level so beginners don't have anything to worry about as the guide goes over technique and waits for everyone. I'd book with them again if I had more time

Cycled over today to get information about sea kayaking for our group (of adults). Was with my wife and two young children when we stopped in so went opposite for a quick snack for the kids and coffee for us. Met the owner but he was so rude. Just kept demanding that we move the bicycle parked outside his shop. Tried a few times to get any help or advice or even ask where he wanted us to move our bikes to that would work for him. Couldn’t get anything useful - only rude words out of him. Just so dismissive despite us trying a few times to ask him for advice and help. Was weird- a few other people witnessed and commented on how rude he was being. In the end we just left and have vowed never to come back. Won’t be using his company and would strongly advise going elsewhere to avoid being treated like dirt the way we were today.
