Troll's Restaurant

We usually take fish and chips but opted for breakfast while waiting for our ferry. The crab benny was unfortunately a disappointment. No salt and no taste. Hot chocolate was good and waitress was nice. I would skip breakfast next time and stick with a simple lunch.

Really bad experience. Extremely bland food, cold and off tasting soup. Didnt eat it and told server and then she sent another guy over with bill. No discount, sorry or anything. Wont ever come back.

While waiting for the ferry all 3 of us had the England and Manhattan clam chowder. It honestly tasted like Campbells soup with a few clams thrown in…worst clam chowder I’ve ever had. The ladies bathroom was not clean as well. Too bad as I have had a good experience in the past.

Very lovely atmosphere with gorgeous view! I had one of the best fish tacos and fish& chips I have ever tried in Canada

Great service from the hostess and waiter. Good location, patio had no wasps. Beer decent and chilled. Halibut was nicely cooked but a minuscule serving. Fries were less than stellar, overcooked scraps in the bottom of the deep fryer basket. Disappointed to pay 25 $ and leave hungry.

Jul16 4: 06pm We we're standing in front of the take out window for 20 min and the waitress ignored us the entire time. She made eye contact but ignored us when we tried talking to her. Then a white guy stood in front of the window got served within 5 min. My friend and I are both asian (:

Second time, and I enjoyed it again. Had the fish and chips, so good and hot. The server was great, too. Other than some servers being kids and on their phones, it didn't seem to affect their tasks. I will be back

Was good and friendly staff. Take out. Almost felt bad for not tipping on take out, almost.

We visited Horseshoe Bay yesterday. We had dinner at this restaurant for first time and our server (HANNAH) was so professional and kind. She made us feel like home. Our food was great and I highly recommend this restaurant.

Fish batter was burt in places and mushy near the fish. The potion size is down, but the price is up. Had an upset tummy due to all the grease.

Coleslaw is still top-notch.

Our experience here was not very great.
We ordered fish and chips and specially wanted the Halibut, but we got Cod instead of Halibut.
Also we ordered the shrimp sandwich but got Fish and Chips instead.
The Shrimp sandwich was very bland and unappetizing.
The Restaurant was not very crowded so our orders should have been delivered correctly.
We had heard a lot about this eatery but felt the service and food were just not up to standard.

Odd name, but great service, good food, proper sanitary measures and convenient location if on doit waiting for the next ferry out of Horseshoe Bay.

Red lights illuminating over tables, the whole Troll’s Restaurant was radiating a warm atmosphere. The receptionist at the entrance and the waitress serving us were truly courteous and friendly. I had Fish’n’Chip, the specialty of the house for 75 years, and a bowl of warm and tasty clam chowder. The inside of the restaurant was warm and cheerful, having a touch of antique; out the window was the beautiful waterfront views of Horseshoe Bay!

I ordered a take out blue cheese burger. The burger was an over cooked frozen patty of poor quality. The fries had been reheated-half were fresh and half were recooked (much more well done). Overall very disappointing. I won’t order there again

The crab cakes are fantastic. The service was attentive and friendly. Have never been disappointed on coming here.

This was the strangest lunch I have ever had. Staff was above average, friendly and helpful. The menu was strange and didn't make sense. No soft drinks listed, had to ask about pricing. Pricing for their signature Fish and Chips was weird between I and 2 pieces. $18 for 1 piece and $20 for 2 pieces and $9 for a 3rd piece. We split the 2 piece and saved significantly and they gave us separate bills for $10 each. So if you can do some fast figuring the lunch cost was reasonable but if you don't it can be very expensive. Trolls is known for their Fish and Chips but they have an extensive menu but do the math before ordering

Committed to feeding us with quality food and exceptional service. Demand is so high staff are working 12 hour shifts (safely, I must add). All required safety protocols are being adhered to. Provincial Health Orders are being fully observed. Kudos!

The old woman hosting was extremely unfriendly, I asked her if she could grab my server so I could order for my friend and she rudely raised her voice saying my serving was waiting for said friend… which doesn’t make much sense. After food was delivered, our server didn’t check in or offer us anything, just came back and asked if we wanted a box (clearly wanting us to leave). Will not be back and the food wasn’t good. Our order came with “vegetables” I never would have served. All around terrible experience

Love this Horseshoe Bay institution. Classic diner. I love to site in the booth and eat pancakes while waiting for the ferry. Friendly staff and decent prices for somewhere so close to Vancouver and with not much other options. Would recommend especially on rainy day.

Miss the ferryor just in the area? Hungry? Halibut and chips where amazing, friendly prompt service accompanied with a beautiful view. Can't go wrong. Must try

Great halibut and chips! If you're on the west coast, you've got to eat halibut. Super view from patio onto the bay.

Food was overall good but the service could've been better. Our server messed up on my order twice and provided mediocre service. Besides that their seafood chowder was very delicious along with their fish and chips.

Plenty of room inside and outside. Very quick service and good food at the heart of the beautiful horseshoe bay

I was craving a well battered fish and chips for lunch. We chose Troll's in Deep Cove. The service was great and the food really "hit the spot"!

I don't make reviews usually but this place impressed me. Their portions are HUGE, and food is delicious. I loved the yam fries.

Forced to order to go even though the restaurant wasn't that busy. When you order to go they really skimp on the sides for the meals.

Food is on the home made side and it's delicious.staff is friendly, but the food can take a while to get ready, since feels like they're freshly preppring everything.a good place to eat at Horseshoe Bay.

Really good fish and chips. Fast service and great portions. Pricing is fair as well. There's lots of fish and chips shops here and this one is definitely the best

Troll's used to be good, about 15 years ago. Now, the fish is overcooked, the chowder a bit bland, and the place is run by teenagers (although our server was nice). Go to C-Lovers for better fish and chips.

I went here while waiting to pickup a friend from the ferry. The food was over priced a single piece of fish with a small amount of fries was over $25 with a tip. The fish was fine but the fries were served cold. I got a half bit of tartar sauce and the waitress seem unimpressed when I asked for more. I would advise people looking for fish and chips to head over to c-lovers as they offer hot food and better service.

I would love to add a review-unfortunately you have to be open at the time you say you’re open so that people can come in and get breakfast. You say you are open at eight am and I was there till 8.10– decided to leave —-your loss my gain. How can you get a negative review when you are the only game in town. Definitely time for some competition.

The food was good. They still don't allow dine in. Take out only but the patio was open for sitting with self serve.

This place states it opens at 8am. Lots of people were waiting until around 8;45am and they didn't open. There was no information, notice, or even a sign posted. We saw people outside waiting past 9am.

Enjoyed a meal here while waiting for friends to catch a Ferry. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Had great social interaction. Food was very yummy. Had the halibut. So tasty! Price was reasonable for portions and satisfying. Sat inside as patio was full. Spacious and clean. Would recommend to anyone looking for a bite. Or to take food onto Ferry.

Awesome view of Horseshoe Bay. Our server was great. The food was excellent, I would return for the prawns alone. Good stop after a busy drive down 99 from Whistler.

When they say oven roasted turkey they don't mean it. The clubhouse sandwich has processed meat very disappointing.

Wasn't happy with the French onion soup was far too sweet. The waitress noticed I hadn't eaten it and didn't charge me the soup or my tea. Great service

Staff are super friendly and they have free wifi which is a plus. However, food was disappointing. Tasted 'premade' and rushed.

Best fish and chips I have had in a really long time. Had the halibut and it was melt in your mouth good. The tartar sauce was a little sweet for my taste, but other than that great food and friendly, speedy service.

Trolls is simply and always will be the best. I love the halibut and chips. Not the same without Gary but still amazing food and service.

Server was nice enough, but waited until my food came out to ask if it was ok that the potatoes were coated in a flour (after ordering gluten free)

Great location right by the water and with a nice window view can’t be wrong.

Food is good but batter on fish was way to thick and super greasy. Prices are reasonable for what you get plus bottomless pop.

Servers are okay, a few times we’ve been here they always get the order wrong or forget something.

Not sure if it was once upon a time better.the fish was terrible, very greasy & poor quality haddock, fries were warm at best. Won't ever eat here again.

Disappointing food. Our server was great. Might be a good idea to clean the deep fryers more frequently as it just tasted like dirty oil. Batter on fish was way to thick and lacked any crunch. For the prices they charge, you can find much better. I doubt that id ever go back. Too bad too as years ago, the food was much better.

This place was randomly recommended by a BC ferries employee for a quick breakfast stop. Staff was super friendly and checked on us regularly. Nice environment and great food!

A friend and I went there before catching our ferry. The first thing was that the hostess looked like she just rolled out of bed.second the menus were filthy.do you own a rag?
I’m usually not that picky but it was kinda gross. The food was actually decent for the price and it came out fast. So shout out to the cooks!

Our waitress on the other hand.looked like she hated her job.she never came around to ask how was anything or do you need anything else. I understand that everyone has bad days, but when we were paying we split our bill and another server was trying to help our server ring in the bill on the Moneris but our server wouldnt let her help her. She kept using the line “oh I didn’t realize”.
Well if you paid more attention to detail and did your job properly.there wouldn’t be so much realizing.
Final thing.our server slammed down the machine after I paid my bill. It felt like I didn’t tip her enough or something when I tipped more then I should of.she replies “the damn machine doesn’t print fast enough”. Well if you were in such a rush you should of let your co-worker help you.

This place has potential, just needs to weed out some employees that clearly have stopped caring.

Love Trolls, food is delicious, service is good. The only complaint is the seating is too squished together, not making it very comfortable.

Try taking out instead of dining in! There is a nice park nearby with benches and you will save yourself money.

Went for breakfast before catching our ferry and it was awful; several tables complained and left with their food to-go or without their food!
Terrible service, average food (home made style, nothing fancy). Plenty of servers but bad service - information re food, general attention & attitude. The kitchen staff, who were visible from our table, were relaxed and nonchalant. Considering the influx of customers correlates with the ferry schedule some sense of urgency is required.

The staff were friendly. Took about 5 minutes to get a waitress to come to the table. Seafood was warm and tasted good. Ordered a Pepsi and it tasted watered down, a bit like tap water, and really carbonated. Traded it for an iced tea instead and it was better (still had a slight tap water taste in it). I can see why the sodas are bottomless now. The fish and chips were crispy and the crab cakes were soft and tender (nicely plated and with real crab too!). The calamari was crispy and all of the plates were entirely filled with food. The restrooms are clean and have a nice look to them. Overall it was an okay experience.

Troll's is a family friendly restaurant that serves the nearby ferry traffic in Horseshoe Bay. The restaurant is easily walkable in 5-10 minutes from the waiting area for the ferry. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the bay and there is a patio outside for warmer days.

My wife and I both had the fish and chips. The portion sizes are large and filling. Two piece meals are ideal if you're very hungry or planning on sharing a plate.

The fish is served hot and crisp. The cod was tender and flakey. The fries were a bit soggy, but it could have been from the oil on the fish dripping on them.

If you're looking for a spot to grab lunch while you wait for your ferry, you could check out Troll's, especially if you have a family and are looking for a diner like experience.

Had some take out halibut fish and chips! Yum! So great that they have a takeout separate from the restaurant. The service was also friendly.

The service was ok. But the food was terrible. We ordered calamari to start- $14 and we got only a small handful. The poutine had mayb 5 penny size pieces of cheese on it.and the gravey tasted like it was from a pouch. The fish part of the fish Tacos were good.but then they filled it up with unseasoned coleslaw, a whole bunch of salsa from a bottle and some sauce. At one point, our waitress was leaning over another table for a good 10 mins and had her bum in the in the air- in our face. So weird! Definitely will NOT be coming back!

This place used to the best.now we've been twice the past year and both times we've sent the food back.the waitress seemed totally uninterested in being there and helping people.too bad this place used to be the best

Best fish n chips i ever had. Friendly fast service and im pretty sure i want to stop in there every time i go to Vancouver.

This was a nice location. But thats about it. Service was slow and not very polite.no gluten free options and no effort to accommodate whatsoever.

The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was piping hot when we received it. It took a little next to no time for us to even receive out water. Very clean establishment.

Great food great service will totally be back when I pass through again the waitress was great I believe her name was Emily always smiling very fast service highly recommend
