True Confections (or Tartine), was the best choice we could've made for our wedding day! We decided to serve pies instead of a wedding cake, and the guests loved it! We had a beautiful pie station with florals and decor that made it look like a dream. Their pies are just amazing!

We ordered the Diplomat cake, the white cake was wonderful and the cream and puff pastry layer was delightful. Washed it down with the Chocolate Malt shake! Wonderful little place and the lady who sat us down and got us our slice was delightful.

Loved the birthday cake with fudge icing and london fog. Went late at night. It was quiet, not too busy, had lots of selection for cakes and cute photos of custom cakes on the wall. Staff was kind. If you want a cute casual date definitely pop in here!

Unprofessional employees at this location, had a bad experience visiting this past weekend! Took 20 minutes to order one slice of cake because the workers behind the counter were gossiping and on their phones. I believe one of the managers (brunette lady that seemed Irish), was just standing there on the phone not helping any customers when there was a line. The cakes are okay, definitely a lot better throughout Vancouver (recommend Aphrodite’s Pie for better pies). Wouldn’t come again.

Tasty cheesecake but terrible service. Didn’t take my girlfriend’s order for 10 minutes standing in front of them, didn’t give one of our boxes in the beginning, and gave one less slice than ordered. Wasn’t even busy…

This place is an absolute rip-off. Nearly $20 for two slices. The pecan pie ($7) came with nearly all the crust missing and bits of paper stuck to the top. Cheesecake is $8 a slice for a tiny piece of stale cake. The cheese on the outside edge had congealed.

Fairly large selection of cakes to choose from. Service was friendly. The strawberry shortcake was good, the birthday cake was okay. Either of them didn't give me the 'omg' moment when you taste a really delicious dessert. We also had English breakfast tea which had great flavour. I will be back to try more cakes.

We drive all the way to Vancouver just to get a bite of their cakes. Very big slice for a very reasonable price. They close late so if you have late night cravings and up for a drive you can go there to get a piece of cake and a tea. You can order cake through their website for any occasion. Parking is a bit challenging.

Strange. I am 100% sure the True Confection’s cake is the Best in Vancouver, although the service wasn’t satisfying. However, last Saturday I went there with friend and an employee was extremely fast and kind who has worked there for 10 years. Never seen her before there when I had been there. I enjoyed cake and decided to buy huge birthday cake. I was happy there first time hhhh. Certainly service is very important!

Cakes were really good. I waited for about 25 minutes to get a slice of cake and a milkshake. Service was kind and polite. Prices are worth the size of the slice. The vanilla milkshake was INCREDIBLE, definitely worth trying. The atmosphere here is kind of cozy and it wasn’t crowded. They have a vast variety of cakes.

Had absolute horrible service today. I ordered a birthday cake for my husband and paid $20 to have it delivered as I couldn't get down to pick it up. My time window was from 10-1 pm. Obviously you choose a time window because you want it in that time. I called the restaurant at 12: 40 and asked for an eta, as I had not heard anything since I ordered a few days before. They said the courier had left half an hour ago and should be there soon. Fast forward to 1: 20, still no delivery and no phone call to say they were running late. I called the restaurant and a lady answered. When I told her my situation, she answered with the most rude tone and told me he was "Obviously running late, do you have to be somewhere? " I understand that people run late and stuff arises, but should t there be a phone call or someone to let me know that this was the case? She gave me the driver's number and said it would be faster for me to call. The driver asked where I lived, and said oh ya ya. I'm running late.

Best cake in Vancouver! I am beyond obsessed with TC's carrot cake! A friend comes to visit Vancouver, we get a true convections carrot cake. Its a friends birthday, we get a true convections carrot cake. If I have a bad day, we get a true convections carrot cake. If its my birthday I demand a true convections carrot cake.

I just had the worst experience of my life today. I went to pick up my daughters cake today and there were 3 servers just standing around talking to each other and completely ignoring me until I asked them for my pick up. One of them were the lady who helped to order my cake 2 days ago. She was very rude and basically rushing me to order my cake fast, I thought she was really busy but there were 1 table with 2 customers. I felt like I am begging her to get my order. But I didnt say anything and I was being super patient and I even left her tip as well. And guess what happened? She wrote my daughters Name wrong on the cake. I just cant believe she could ruin my lil girls cake like this. I actually had tears in my eyes. I have never experienced something like this before. I actually took time and tried few slices of their cakes before I order. Unfortunately the cake was so dry and there is a big hole in the middle after a slice and tastes nothing like the ones Ive tried from their sliced cakes. Im just speechless and full of disappointment. Im not sure if this Bakery take their customers seriously.

Based on the reviews, I decided to place a White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake - 7" Layer cake for my boyfriend's birthday! On the day of pick-up, I received a 5" cheesecake instead. This was cringey as it would not be enough to feed everyone. The server mentioned this was NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED! (SO FAIR WARNING!) The quality was like any other cheesecake store. A cheesecake should be creamy and rich in flavor, but this one was dry! Also, this actually made my boyfriend SICK a day later when we did have it. I contacted the manager the next day, before anyone touched the cheesecake yet, who agreed to provide me with a full refund within 5 days. It is now 8 business days. If I had known this was to be dragged out, I would have gone in person and returned the whole cheesecake as no one touched it yet and this could have also prevented my boyfriend from getting sick! When I called the manager, before I could say anything, she hung up. When I called again, it went to voicemail (okay, maybe she's busy). When I called the store hours later, and asked for the manger, she did not sound apologetic and I doubt I will even get that agreed upon refund! ADVICE: DON"T ORDER FROM HERE! RUDE MANAGER/SERVICE! Service was friendly and efficient and great potion sizes but quite disappointed in the cake flavour. Ordered the cookies&cream cheesecake and a chocolate hazelnut mouse cake. Both were very underwhelming

Very small slices of cake for $9. If the cakes were good I wouldn’t mind the price but it was really amateur. It’s sad because this place was good once upon a time but not anymore. On top of everything despite being the only ones there the service was bad.

Decent. I live nearby so have been many times over the years. The darker (chocolatey) cakes have always been very good, in my experience; whenever I've tried lighter-coloured cakes they've been a bit dry and dull. Not sure if that trend is coincidental. I've been served a sadly cold espresso a few times too. Trifles are usually pretty good, though, and the couple of times I've had cheesecake they were good too but those were a long time ago. (Safeway's cheesecakes are great and Breka is across the street, so.) Boozy drinks are generally fine.

If you want a chocolate cake (any type), True Confections is pretty damn good; otherwise it's just a decent place to sit down in the West End and you might be disappointed if you're expecting fancy goodness.

They try hard with the service; if it's quiet it's usually very good.

(I've been to the Broadway location only a few times, but they've been 5* so far. For whatever that's worth.)

Usually good but this time not. Was there on Wed Nov 17 in the evening, ordered 2 peices of cake. Paid. Noticed on Nov 21st I had been double charged after looking at my statement. Reached out to the restaurant and they apologized asked for me to email a Screencast of my status showing the double charge which I did right away. Now it's Nov 24th, I have not been reimbursed for the extra charge, no one has responded to my email to the company and when I just called now they have no one in charge in either store in whom to direct my concerns. I used to go here often, now I will think otherwise.

This cafe is usually great and it was again this evening when I bought a chocolate raspberry slice after our ramen dinner at kintaro.but the slice was very thin for 10.24 other cafes aren't as stingy as this. I might even try to bake a layer and wont need to buy at places that overprice for small portions.

This is one of my favourite dessert places in Vancouver. The cake slices are quite large here. Most of them are 9.75$ price and can easily be shared by two people. The signature hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream was also delicious. I highly recommend this place and will visit again.

I tried a basque cheesecake and a pecan pie. Cheesecake was great but I would go to other shops for pecan pie. Other than that server was helpful I liked that it was quiet than other cafes.

Ordered a red velvet photo cake for my birthday. The cake was beautiful but the best part was how good the red velvet cake was. A lot of red velvet cakes are too sweet for my liking but this one was not. My friends also said the same thing. I recommend them!

Very delicious. The best dessert to get is pecan pie with ic cream. The best drink to get is Chai latte.

I’ve been before but took the fiancé here for his first time. Needless to say again was far from disappointed. There is a vintage charm about this place that creates a well needed atmosphere is our busy city. The cake sizes have gotten bigger if anything but remain incredibly affordable. Anytime I’m downtown I will continue to make time for a tea and slice of cake. Brava to the owner for keeping the charm and always impressing.

Im a regular customer of this bakery, it normally good but lately the quality has gone down. Picked up a small cheesecake today and it was terrible. First of all, the waitress was super rude towards me and my boyfriend even though the store has no one else at the time. Second, the graham cracker of my cheesecake tasted burnt and cheesecake is super dry. Lastly, I normally have whipping cream and strawberry jam to go with my cheesecake but this time the waitress didnt give me any of that. Overall, really disappointed since i live in this neighborhood and i came by pretty much every week. Hopefully the management team will do something to improve this.

Just ordered through Uber and was really disappointed. First the taste was like a very ordinary cheesecake. Safeway cheesecake definitely tastes better. The portion is extremely tiny, it’s a half slice not a slice at all. Please see the pictures. Doesn’t worth a 20$ on two slices at all.

This is one of the best cake in town. It doen't looks fancy, but it definitely very tasty. Excellnet service too.

This was my first experience at this dessert place and it was by far one of the worst experiences i have had. The service was unprofessional and horrible, she never checked on us, nor took away the plates or refilled our waters. The food/drinks were not good at all. The casing of the cakes is also very dirty along with their utensils and cups which were very sticky. To make matters worse our server Mariama rushed us to pay our bills while we were still sitting down and eating. I also heard her talking bad about another customer to another server that had just clocked in. All in all this is why i rated it 1 star (would give it 0 if i could) and would recommend to go to Breka bakery across the street.

Went in to enjoy a boozy coffee and cake, was rudely told they were take out only.its 1115pm on a Friday evening, the street is buzzing. Shame, this place used to be open late.

Oh no! What happened to True Confections? ! I was a regular customer years back and this place was great in every way. I went back this week after a few years absence.the Diplomat was dry and the Shortcake serving slice was so small for $9.50. Both cakes lacked flavor - tasted like watered down ingredients. I’ll try Breka next time as suggested by other reviewers.

I would give 5 stars but I can't. I like their food, and we frequently order delivery from here BUT I don't think we have received a completely accurate order from them.

Either stuff would be missing from our order entirely (and not credited back), or they will replace something we wanted with something we don't without contacting us. I don't know if their staff are drunk or high but we order extra expecting them to mess up something.
I would recommend the Hazelnut Belgian Mousse Torte though, it is amazing. Their chocolate Pecan Pie is also excellent.

Anyway, order extra if you order from here because I guarantee something will be missing or different.

Wide choices and pretty fresh cakes. Only downside is slices are too large. Maybe one slice feeds two ppl easy. You should come few times to get to test all flavors.

Waited 5 minutes at the door waiting to be seated without so much as an acknowledgement from the girl at cash, finally was told she can take my order there, I asked if they were not seating people as the sign said please wait to be seated. She just said you have to order there, there was no menu or anything posted or given at the door to decide beforehand what we wanted. The girl didn't seem to want guests there at all.

I have been calling this location and Broadway location! No one is picking up the phone for both stores! Not sure if they are still in business!

Ever since you guys hires this Brazilian manager it has been closing early and also serving dry cake.

Where do I begin. I went in to grab a coffee on the go and let me tell you I definitely stayed and not only did I have coffee but a delicious piece of carrot cake! The lady working was so kind and made me feel so welcome. She checked on me few times and made me feel like I was in Europe. I really never write reviews but I had to for this experience. I will be going back to try all the different cakes!

It was right before 11pm on Saturday night. My friends and I went in to get a take out order. The lady asked what we wanted and kept asking if they wanted our orders together/on the same bill but we kept mentioning we are 2 separate orders and to keep them separate. Once at the cashier, I asked if I could get an Earl Gray tea as well to which she responded, "We don't serve drinks past 11pm. " I looked at her and told her it's a tea and just past 11 but she again repeated that it was not possible. As I was paying for my order she kept staring at the machine and as soon as I hit the "no tip" button she insisted she will make the tea for me and it'll be a one time thing. I told her I didn't want it and walked away. She also did the same thing to my friends and was staring at the machine while she was at it and said "please! " My friends paid and she told me to come back and pay for the tea she had made for me. I refused the drink and walked out without it. My issue is, DO NOT WORK IN CUSTOMER SERVICE IF YOU CANNOT GIVE SERVICE YET EXPECT A TIP! I have worked in the industry for years and have never refused anyone a drink an HOUR before closing. Not even alcohol. Lazy workers wanting good tips does not cut it with me. She gave my friends the smallest piece of cheesecake as well. We have been there 100's of times but that experience alone is the last time we are going there. Thanks but no thanks.

I purchased a Chocolate Raspberry cake today (June 13,2021). Several people ate the cake before I discovered that there was a lot of mold in the raspberries and the cake itself. We are currently waiting to see if we experience any ill symptoms.
This was unexpected and very disappointing.

Best cheesecake in town! Love this place and is a gem, tonight I had the chocolate banana cream pie and it is also a fav haha if you like chocolate peanut butter, that is a fantastic cheesecake, they have a variety of fruit ones that are all excellent. In the fall/winter they have sticky toffee pudding and it is the BEST thing they serve!

We went there yesterday, I felt it very strange that the waiter asked me for phone charge once I sat down? And when the cakes are ready, he just putted on the tale without say anything, no smile on his face

Their cheesecake was ok, nothing to write home about. Not as good as it used to be years ago. The New York cheesecake was dense but the base was decent. The portion was on the small side for the price. The blueberry coulis had no flavour and watery. Service left something to be desired. She was rude and impatient. Will not be going back.

Came here to get a slice of a cake my husband loves for his birthday. Right after I purchased the slice I noticed there was a smaller whole baked version of the cake he loves available that could be shared by the two of us. Before the attendant grabbed the slice, I asked if I could get the whole cake instead and I could just pay the extra amount or refund the original and re do the purchase. She informed me that’s not possible as the purchase already went through. It’s hard to believe a successful and popular place such as true confections would not have a refund system especially if a customer wanted to make a bigger purchase instead. I work in a restaurant and we offer refunds where needed to much smaller purchases. This kind of surprised me and she wasn’t kind about it.just a “sorry it’s done” sort of attitude with no sincerity or smile, even after I assured her to take her time as they were busy. Maybe it’s because they were busy but really hope she didn’t lie about the fact they couldn’t do a refund and re-purchase. We take out from here sometimes through the year so this was a disappointing experience. Not eager to come back to a place that treats customers poorly.

I like this location better than West Broadway because it looks more clean, but this location also has slow service. The serving sizes are really big for 1, and its enough to share between 2-3 people, the prices are fair and cheap for the big portions you get. Very flavourful desserts. I love the carrot cake and the banana pie. This the go-to place for a nice late night dessert. Will be back for more.

Small portions, cheap ingredients and they charge $1 for a cup of hot water with lemon. They're in a great location, but make the trek up to Thierry on Alberni St instead.

Sat down and ordered one cake piece, one coffee and one water. Ten mins later (censored) couple sits down and orders. Twenty minutes later they get their cake and coffee. About 3 mins later ours comes. Server was (censored). I saw my piece of cake sit on the top of counter for 5 mins.

Amazing food. Cheesecake is DELICIOUS! As soon as you put in your mouth it melts instantly.

I think this is honestly such a great place for dessert I recommend it to anyone travelling to van city or living there! I just don't know really about the service like it was great but she wandered a while doing nothing while we waited for our food. She was overall pretty good just a little slow with service I liked it there for cakes and pies really was delicious!

I went to this shop and don’t get me wrong, the cake was lovely as was the coffee, but the service on the other hand was awful. On Wednesday during the day my server was very unpleasant and unkind, didn’t seem as if they wanted to be there at all. Completely ruined the experience for me, definitely will not be back unless the service improves.

Casual and open late, they're not aspiring to anything fancy and sophisticated. You may not find dainty pastries here, but you will find hearty, old-fashioned cakes and pies: an impressive selection (though pricey) of both seasonal and regular towering, tiered creations that are all made in-store. No wonder this place is still going strong after so many years!

I have been coming to Vancouver every summer for almost a decade, and I always visit True Confections when I'm in town. The desserts are fabulous, and Martin is lovely. Even though I only come in about once a year, amazingly she remembers my name and even where I normally like to sit. She gives great service and I am always happy to see her. She single-handedly makes the experience better.

The portions are ridiculously over priced for what you get. The small cheesecake is barely enough for one person. The staff is rude, inattentive, unfriendly and in another world. I had an absolutely horrible experience. Certainly not worth the bother.

The cakes are absolutely delicious. A single slice comes to be around $10, but is large enough that two people can share it comfortably. Nothing wrong with the food.
But the other comments are right. The service is a little bit rude. I know it's a casual setting but it leaves a bad taste in your mouth when your server's attitude is a little strange and snippy. One does not feel very welcomed in this establishment. The server was not outwardly malicious or anything, but rather, seemed to not really care about the customer's experience. When I had ordered two cakes for my friend and I, the server seemed like it was preposterous that I hadn't ordered a drink to go along with it. I think there's a very attainable and basic standard of customer service that you guys aren't really hitting. It sucks that I have to leave such a bad review because of this because again, the store is lovely, and the food is great.

Two visits in one week to business meetings and both times we were given absolutely appalling service. First visit the young man seemed like we bothered him by showing up because what was on his phone was more important. The second time the waitress assumed we were there to pick up and order and seemed confused. And then gave attitude and weird looks. Barely ever have written a negative review because we like to give the benefit of the doubt. Ownership needs to do a better job of monitoring and on both visits it seemed completely empty. Owner should look into remote surveillance.

Afternoon server not friendly. The sign say please wait to be seated. But then she tries to talk to you from down at the other end of the counter and gets annoyed when she can't hear your response. Never have I walked in and had a warm welcoming smile for a afternoon dessert

Still as good as I remember it over a decade ago. I tend to order cakes from this location; milk chocolate hazelnut in particular. Once in a while, I will stop by for some cakes after dinner. Never had a problem with service here; though it does tend to waver a bit when they are busy.

Best dessert I've had. Got the devil's food cake. The mousse was light but substantial enough to work well between the laters of cake. The marshmallow frosting was amazing. Had a nice cup of coffee with it, and left there feeling very happy.

Historic cake / Cheese cake in Vancouver. Great serving. Delicious cakes. A bit on the pricey side, but worth it. Great place to bring a slice home or just have a tea/coffee & sweet treat with your home slice.
