Currently waiting for an ambulance for over an hour (there's two locations listed as open and only minutes away from the location) for my future father in law and can't even get an ETA (estimated time of arrival). The previous care he's received has only hastened the decline in his health and it doesn't even seem like they care. Hopefully this reaches someone with some sort of pull so people can actually get cared for without the whole hospital needing to get shut down and everyone there getting blacklisted from healthcare but something has got to give.

I have had a bad lower back since April because of a sports injury that I got outside of PG. All the doctors and physio therapists that delt with me in Whistler, PG, WL, and GP and suggested that I either get some MRI or Ultrasound done for my lower back and that my Tinnitus syndrome is a cause of my nerve damage from the back problem. So I go here to talk about my Tinnitus. At no point does the doctor get me to stand up and examine my back. We just have a talk. She looks into my ears, says they are clean. Now she says you should get an MRi for your brain incase there is a tumor. Well Tinnitus could be a symptom of anything, and this 3min interview didn't really get to anything. So she booked me in for an MRI anyway. I get a call later to confirm the time and date because why not get a free MRI. I say no sorry 8 o clock appointment is to early I have acupuncture at 10. So apparently my MRI was actually at 8PM not AM. Even though the hospital hours are till 8pm. How was I supposed to know if it was 8am or PM, especially since I said it was to early for me. I definitely don't sound like a vampire either. So since my visit months ago the imflimation over top of my psychiatric nerve has mostly past and I have never heard of the Tinnitus again. I still have lumber back issues for which I have an Ultrasound potentially scheduled for at the Trail hospital. Potentially because they also can't get back to me about this requisition transfer.

The hospital is supposed to be there to support people needing medical care, yes? Well UHNBC would do well to remember that; particularly the blood lab which seems to have inexperienced or apathetic staff (with rare exceptions). The current system does not work. You have responsible patients who book their appointments (with the useless appointment booking system that replaced the well functioning system that was in place 2020-2021, but it wouldn't be UHNBC if they didn't make changes that are less efficient, nonsensical and make appointment booking less accessible for seniors or those not tech savvy) and show up on time, and then you have the entitled in society showing up right when the lab opens thinking they can cut line while disregarding the people who have been waiting for quite some time for the lab to open. You have staff that can't find requisitions or they tell you to wait because there is more than one requisition for you, all the while they keep calling people in who showed up after you, instead of taking the 30 seconds to figure out the reqs and provide you the service you have booked an appointment for. A disgrace in service, organization, knowledge, and efficiency. I get society likes to believe there aren't medically vulnerable people walking amongst them, but a hospital should be more cognizant, and perhaps UHNBC could crawl out of the stone age and implement service to support the vulnerable amongst us by blocking times/slots per day just for the more vulnerable - cancer patients, transplant patients, otherwise immunocompromised folks etc,

Really quite a shame for our community and for those who require regular bloodwork to manage their health.especially when people stop going for their bloodwork because the process is an incredible joke - with the lab and some of the entitled and ignorant people that attend while chowing down their Tims breakfast.

Security at the front door is always intimidating and the lady at the reception (ruby I think her name was) was rather rude and showed no empathy at all. DO BETTER! We aren't thrilled to be going to the hospital, you don't have to make us feel like we are a burden or not sick enough to be here. No one wants to wait here for 4-5 hours but we only do it because we NEED HELP.

This is for the ER. The waits are terrible, it's like a rural town's hospital. Had to get driven to ER near midnight when everything else was closed. A male doc was very rude to me when I was having an intense panic attack. I have depression, he made me want to die rather than come back. I was in a terrible place mentally and it was just an awful experience.

I'm saddened to see how dirty this hospital has become since c19.
I ended up at the ER and had a few blood tests they had to do, it took 5 hours to get the results back. While I was waiting in the hallway there were many people getting bloodwork done or shots of medication IN the hallway waiting chairs! Wheres the privacy? ! How is that sanitary? Terrible.

This rating is just for the women who work in the Family Medicine Unit on the 2nd floor. Thank you for your help with my mother this past week, and for your empathy and compassion when she passed away on Wednesday morning. I sincerely appreciated it. Bless you all!

Worst hospital yet. Doctors are extremely unknowledgeable. Most of the time they dont know what the issue is with their patients. Nor care to investigate what the problem really is. Misdiagnose their patient. Just give out random medications and suggest if it doesnt help come back. Nurses are very rude. Easily tell they hate their jobs. Patients are left untreated in waiting room or hallways for hours on end. Homeless people are sleeping on chairs in waiting room. I had better care in a backyard Mexican hospital.

I agree that staff are so rude, and by the way who is in charge of this hospital,? And they should not forget that us tax payers are paying their wages,
27 December 2022 11:18
I’ve been misdiagnosed several times by several different doctors. Once the correct diagnosis was made by a lower mainland doc, no one would take charge of treatment, they just pass the buck to some mother doc. Do yourself a favour, go to the coast and get cared for. Apparently we don’t get the level of medical expertise and competency big cities do. That is understandable, why would a physician want to live in Northern BC?
01 December 2022 19:44
Worst hospital in all of BC, sent a mentally unstable person out the doors after being sedated 20 minutes prior… staff is rude and EXTREMELY lacking knowledge, doctors have zero clue as to what’s going on in any part of the hospital…. Try to call to check on a patient and literally get yelled at and then hung up on…. This place is a waste of time take the extra time to go to a different one
17 October 2022 21:59
Worse hospital I've ever been to animals probably get treated better at veterinarian hospital some of the most ignorant nurses
29 July 2022 7:25
Sitting here for hours with a broken ankle and a Dr hasn't even looked at me. Go anywhere but here. Such bad medical care
15 July 2022 22:54
Large regional hospital serving large catchment area. Lots of departments and areas, can be difficult to navigate. Staff are friendly and helpful but long wait times due to volume.
11 April 2022 8:05
Icu staff and nurses, doctors deserve the praise of the almighty for they step up and and care.my father is blessed to have such a caring staff and doctors.god bless you all. ️️️️️️.

Me and my son have been waiting for around 5 hours in emergency. He is bleeding in a bad place and that is happening constantly. Apparantly that isn't a severe injury so we are still waiting. Also a man fell off his chair and couldn't get up and the staff didn't help so the people around him and I had to help.
04 December 2021 14:36
To the Nurse Grace who was working at 3: 00 - 4: 00 AM on November 17th in emergency when my girlfriend and I came in due to a horrific lung issue. Telling me to shut up because I was speaking on behalf of my girlfriend because of her coughing fits, physically hitting another patient who was sleeping in the waiting room (after an assumed 3 hour wait) (you can check the CCTV), and lastly asking SECURITY TWICE to separate my girlfriend and I once; while we were in the waiting room quietly sitting while she was having a nervous breakdown. And a SECOND TIME while I was behind the tape the guard moved me to trying to comfort her forcing me to wait outside out of sight. I sincerely hope you lose your job or have to encounter someone as disgusting and heartless as yourself.
23 October 2021 7:43
Security at main entrance to direct you to where you want to go, not too long a wait time for appointments
29 September 2021 19:33
If you're in PG, try not to die. Because if you are there's only a 50% chance they will even let you through the doors. If you have mental health issues they will gladly lock you up and make you take a hundred different pills that you don't need because it makes money, but if you go in unable to breathe they will make sure to keep you waiting for over an hour just to get through triage. The doctors are rude, inexperienced, and will literally laugh at you if you're choking on an apple before helping remove it. I watched a child under the age of 10 wait for over an hour I the waiting room after being flown in from another hospital. The doctors here will judge based off your looks. It is PG after all. I've seen doctors break their oath too many times at this hospital and I genuinely think that in an emergency you'd be better off driving to a different city to go to a better hospital, because they don't care about their patients here and some of the nurses can't even take bloodwork properly.

Deserves six start rating, staff and facility top notch! Thank you for your caring spirit 3rd floor surgical
15 June 2021 16:34
Extremely unorganized and terrible care for ppl who are already unwell. Staying at this hospital does not always make you better. Some leave in worse condition from lack of sleep and constant noise. Also the mundane overly repetitive and long assessments that the students make is annoying to say the least.
06 June 2021 5:08
This hospital is not the place where you want to be taken to for any reason. If you have any sort of appointment in this hospital get the 2 hours prior to your appointment so you can find the proper area in the maze of corridors and empty desks or any sort of proper information. Signs are often missing information as to where you need to go. Ask
To be reassigned to a different hospital!
05 May 2021 14:00
I've had a lot of bad experiences with rude nurses and rude doctors who really shouldn't be in the field of work. I have also had some good nurses and doctors at the same time. If i can avoid this hospital and go to quesnel i will. Hopefully uhnbc gets is staff sorted out because it could be a really great hospital but you need to flush out the bad eggs
21 February 2021 23:56
This hospital is run by northern health. The biggest liars about covid facts. Got covid on a fight March 5/20 to Vancouver. I was sick but there were no cases at the time? Only 60 cases announced in ft st james Dec 10/20. More like 270 out of population of 1600.
04 February 2021 8:50
I was admitted Saturday evening after breaking my pelvis ring skiing. Every healthcare worker from admitting, to ER nurses, to ER doctors, to ward nurses (Mercedes and others names I don't remember) to Dr. Purnell, and finally the very knowledgeable physical therapist, Christina were amazing. All very thoughtful, caring, and kind.
02 February 2021 12:36
Terrible place. They made me wait for six hours in the emergency waiting area on uncomfortable chairs with a spiral fracture to see the ortho specialist which i ended up never seeing. I finally had to hobble out to the nursing station to find out whats going on only to be told "oh he cant see you and you could have left. ".

Was called by the lab friday for blood work on sunday. Go to the lab they lost my paperwork 3 patients on hole ground floor. 2 month ago they lost my wives paperwork ended up going down 3 times wwe live on the hart and not round the corner. People are dieing cause they cant get surgery because of covid and will be so overwhelmed not what I seen more security than patients wasting tax payers money

The only reason i followed through with advice and hospital medicine was strictly because of the Teams of talented you and experienced.dedicated staff that run the various functions of the hospital.
GENUINELY CARING!
Thank you!

I just spent 10 days at this hospital. The nurses at the hospital are great. They have to deal with a host of difficulties all day long and do the best they can. It's the other side of the coin that that brings down this hospital. Its needs to be bigger. It can not accommodate the size of this city and out area of other small towns. I for one know this first hand as stated above I spent 10 days there. When i was there the hospital was over bed coverage by 43 beds. They had people in hallways with no privacy curtains that up set me the most. This hospital needs to be enlarged not tomorrow BUT TODAY before it's to late.
I know meals are terrible but they pass the minimum requirements and that's what counts. I could go on but this is a small bit.
29 March 2020 6:23
Hrs before we saw any one. The get registered and wait over an hr for a doc. Then fast with the tech and then wait an hr and half in waiting room, and still waiting.
25 February 2020 3:51
It's a hospital, so generally it's not going to be a happy experience.

All in all, staff is attentive, gets you processed in a triage method at emergency, and in my experience aims to get you in and out as quick as possible.

I live south of PG, closer to Quesnel than PG, and if I have to go to the hospital I will drive the extra distance to go to the hospital in PG over Quesnel any day of the week.

Like other reviews on here state, the nurses and staff here are rude. In my experience mostly the triage staff. Same blonde triage nurse always has a problem for no good reason and over abuses her authority. So much before tonight other patients the last time we were in with on shift, they were telling her she was out of line and I was not the problem. Even one of her staff members told me to complain about her last time as well. She walked up to me and was telling me where to get the number to do so. I wasn't in the mood to even go take the number down off the poster after dealing with the blonde nurse in traige. So eventually she brought me the pamphlet. She said, "we need to know where we are doing bad here so it can be fixed. " I however got busy with life matters and never called in, but after having issues with the same nurse tonight I will be for sure. It's sad to see so many other complaints about the same problem down below.

Tonight what set her off was me and my kid walking in with his toy after getting dropped off by a taxi. My son made it 1-2 steps in and he was told he couldn't have his toy. They even tried to take it from him. His toy that doesn't have any loud effects. Something he brought in almost every other time we've been there and staff had no issues with. Even on Friday well we were there last. We then went and sat in the same spot we have always sat since moving out this way. Never had one issue there before but were harassed to move tonight, if not denied service. Where we were sitting not one other person. Just a bunch of empty chairs. I left because people should not be treated in such a manner. Even my son was yelled at for something he didn't even do minutes before we left.

Btw everyone I talked to was freezing in the waiting room tonight. Even ones with thick blankets brought from home. Something you guys should perhaps fix for your patients.
14 January 2020 18:29
Icu should be cleanest place there but its not talking about waiting area
Also we forgot about 2 ppl rule and just wanted my hubby blessed and one nurse stopped us like we were committing a crime i noticed she is pretty rude to us but nice to others
Glad my hubby has differ nurses i wanted complain about that i broke down cried
She has know we are not in right minds and just want best for patient

Our 91 year old grandfather has been roomed there for about a month with advanced dementia. They lost him today for over an hour. Luckily we found him down the road. When we brought him back the head nurse didn't even care no one tried to help or stop him. Neither security nor the police were called. What if he had gotten hurt, killed, or hurt someone else? I am appalled that a hospital like this is allowed to even be open. The total lack of concern that the staff on duty today had was disgusting.
09 October 2019 4:32
Recieved a parking ticket at night parked in the front doors were locked probbly took me 15 mins just to walk around cause my grandmas legs are not good. Overly priced ticket for not having alot of people there pretty rediculous.
03 October 2019 5:29
To the man bun nurse working the emergency intake, how have you not been fired for how rude you are to patients.

Come in with respiratory problems, almost swollen shut throat, tells me to go to a walk in while visibly having problems to breathe.

Coming from out of town and seriously needing help, this hospital emerge department was a complete joke!
10 September 2019 15:33
Went in because I was going to kill myself, waited 7 hours in the emergency room and were completely rude to myself. After 7 hours they moved me to a small room for an hour then finally talk to someone which was extremely unprofessional and rude. They continued to move me to places and not even talk to me. Finally after being in the hospital for 12 hours I talk to a doctor, he only talked to me for 10 minutes before saying nothing is wrong with me and for me to go home. They did not make my situation any better, but worse. Rude and racist staff. Absolutely terrible, can’t believe I was born here.
02 August 2019 9:04
Apparently PG hospital staff don't know how to tell time.
Departments open late making a clogged system even more clogged 1/2 HR after open and staff just stares at you not taking a single person.must be nice to have a high paying job, super benefits and you best of all you get paid to screw the dog open when your done shootin the breeze at the water cooler
22 June 2019 17:15
Worst hospital I have ever been in. Nurses are rude, doctors are rude. My brother got sent in my ambulance for a overdose and they were so rude to him he tried to leave then he wasn’t aloud to leave for 72 hrs. Then they just stuck him in a busy brightly lit hall in emergency and wouldn’t let him move into a darker space so he could at least sleep. The nurse was was extremely rude and didn’t care at all about his well being.
Something has to be done about this hospital. It’s rated 3 something out of 5 stars. Come on Prince George what is going here! This is embarrassing and utterly pathetic.
