I love walking into uvic bookstore, it’s the welcoming smell of freshly brewed coffee coming from Starbucks downstairs that puts me in the best mood. There are a range of books collections, stationary, kids books and games, indigenous people’s books and brands (perfect for gifting), and a bunch of UVic branded merchandise. There’s currently an ongoing book sale where I picked up a couple of old but still good books and I chanced on Chimamanda Adiche’s journal model after her quick read book, “We should all be feminist. ”
The stuff here is kind of expensive, but if you're shopping here its because you're a student who needs supplies and in that they excel at providing what you need. That being said the electronics store is more expensive than most places so id just go to a cheaper place.
As a student at UVIC, I find the bookstore to be really useful. In addition to being able to get your textbooks there, you can find just about anything you might need as a student. The only thing I don't enjoy about it is the super-long lineups at the start of each semester, as students clamour to get their books and supplies.
Not size inclusive. Almost everything 2XL is sold out and their sizes do not go up to 3XL. The fact that sizes 2XL are sold out shows that there is a demand for larger sizes.
This is my favorite place to visit when I go back to Victoria. As an UVIC Alumni, our "One Card" can get great discounts at the bookstore. I bought my Hershal's backpack at the store which is cheaper than their own store. There are much more souvenirs and stationary to choose from.
Great spot to visit. All kinds of merchandise and memorable university branded things. There is a corner for young children which is very lovely. I graduated and bring my baby to visit here quite often. There is always something attracts me. Because of adding brand value, the merchandise are bit pricy. But buy something once in a while wouldn’t hurt.
If you're shopping here most likely are looking for textbooks haha go to the subtext or try going online first. Most likely you can also find a free pdf version of your textbook somewhere.
In 2018, I purchased a seat cushion for the support displaying the Vikes and it's logo and it falls apart very quickly and I also purchased a UVic watch and it malfunctions very, very very quickly. Extremely sad to say the merchandise at the UVic Bookstore is quite suspect w/ my experience. I am very disappointed w/ the quality of the merchandise and will be very, very, very hesitant to shop at this business again.
Unreasonably expensive, huge mark up on anything with Uvic printed on it. I expect a decent markup for uvic merch but they really hike up the price for average quality stuff.
This is pretty much a standard university book store. In addition to books (upstairs) and class texts (downstairs) it pushes upscale clothing, electronics, university-branded apparel and 'stuff' (keychains, little flags, etc) that proud parents like to buy and students really don't need.
My only real complaint is that the washroom (there's only one) is hidden and hard to access.
I don't normally write reviews, but the lady working downstairs at the customer service desk is so rude and unfriendly. I've been down there a few times to ask for help and every time she acts like you should already know the answer. Whenever you approach her, she doesn't say "hi" or anything, she acts like you're bothering her, and she stares you down with not one single smile. She should not be working there.
The plastic packaging was super tight, so after ripping it and cutting it, I removed the cable and threw the packaging out.
Went to use the cable, it had a very funny smell - not like any cable or electronic product I’ve ever used. It bothered me when I was trying to study. Went to return it, with my original receipt and the employee agreed it had a funny smell. Regardless, I was told no because there was ‘nothing wrong’ with the cable and because I didn’t have the packaging.
This bookstore sells the jankiest art supplies, I do not recommend
So far I’ve bought: -fineliner pens: They went dry within a few hours (or less) of use -water colour tube paints: They came out completely oil separated and runny. -overpriced “wet and dry” use sketchbook: used wet materials and the paper crinkled and pieces ripped off -paintbrushes: hairs fell out of the brushes and stuck onto a painting within minutes of use
guess I should have learned my lesson and kept my receipts after the first few times the materials were horrible but youd expect the university to have AT LEAST decent quality materials
There was an extremely long lineup but it moved efficiently and I was out in ~20 minutes. Priced reasonably (other than textbooks but that's on the publisher not the store). Would go again.
I mean it's a college bookstore so it's a little expensive. But it has lots of other stuff. Starbucks is opening soon. Has an electronics department. A kids department. And some non college books
There is a good variety of school supplies at an acceptable price, and the staff there is friendly. However, the computer store is quite small, and there are few options to choose from, where several products are either sold out or not in stock.
Pretty nicely layed out building. This is a great place to get any and all of your UVic merch, or of course go down stairs and get a coffee from finnerty ex.
There have been some nice changes since the last time I went to school at UVic. I like how the bookstore has a list of texts for your class and groups them accordingly. The upstairs is nice, but pricey. I don't know why university bookstores need to have such a high mark up, which is why my review is 4 stars instead of 5.
Quite expensive so I wouldn’t suggest making it your school supply stop but it can be extremely helpful. If you are going to buy text books I’d suggest going as early as possible then not opening anything until you know you need it in case you are going to return it. I would suggest avoiding any tech or novelty stuff just because it is extremely expensive.
Not a great selection of anything in particular. Good if you need a lock, water bottle, or UVic branded clothing to prove you went to a mediocre university.
Books! So many books. A secret spot to find all kinds of rite-in-rain journals and erasable pens for days. It's full of students and the lines are long, but the staff are well practised and they move quickly.
Very disappointing selection of clothing. Nothing creative or innovative about any of their products. They should hire someone to spruce up the tired looking clothes.
