Staff are phenomenal! My kitty is always treated very well and I am always happy leaving knowing that he's recieved the best care. Highly recommend this place

Very nice and okay, but also very expensive, at the top price point for sure. Quick checkup, a couple of vaccines and $370, ouch.

Brought my dog in for an emergency to be sent home by what I thought was a vet only to be a registration clerk. My dog passed 12 hours later. No sympathy. No nothing except will pay for her cremation. Been a month today. They have no idea how they made me feel killing my dog without looking at her they were busy I wasn’t asking to cut in line they didn’t tell me to sit and wait they sent me home. I’ve been going there for 20 years and the stories I’ve heard about this place after my dog passed are unbelievable please don’t take your pet there.

Our cat started limping over a long weekend and unfortunately all of the vets in our immediate area were closed. Van Isle were incredibly accommodating even though we weren’t existing clients and got us in right away! I can’t begin to thank you all enough for this, it’s excruciating seeing your furry family member in pain and not being able to get them help. Thank you Van Isle

I'm always worried about going to the vets because my dog is a pitbull and I've seen lots of people scared of the breed. The vets here are amazing they took good care of my girl Scarlett
26 April 2023 15:04
In Courtenay on a vacation, my dog developed very alarming symptoms. I called ten minutes before closing, hoping that someone point me the nearest emergency animal hospital. The person who answered the phone went out of her way to ask about my dog’s symptoms, and talk me through my options. Much gratitude!

Van Isle Vet took amazing care of my furbaby, Molly. The level of care, concern and love shown to the pets in their care is unmatched.
09 April 2023 5:33
As a newcommer to the valley, this vets office has been a life saver! These people are very professional and care about your animals' well-being above all else. Everyone has always been so nice and very helpful each time ive gone. Beautiful facilities are a big bonus too

I used to only trust this vet but after my most recent experience that ended in a complete anxiety attack I am scared to come back.the vet working with my dog was not educated on the breed and made many uneducated statements about the organization we are training through despite admitting to not knowing about them, and made this visit by far one of the most anxiety inducing vet visits I have been to.my dog is going into training to become a service dog for my PTSD and anxiety and to have this happen while I am trying to overcome that anxiety and work and train with my dog to heal together is genuinely such a put down and step back.the other vets I have met here have been great but this experience has left a lump in my throat thinking about coming back. I am scared to go to a new vet hospital but I am terrified to come back and be put down about the dog that has been helping me overcome some of my greatest challenges and who I am helping him to overcome his, as a baby that is learning. I do not feel he was treated fairly, and I feel the vet was extremely gruff and impatient with him and held him to unrealistic standards as a 4 month old puppy. I am deeply hurt as I trusted this vet with my most important fur baby and I feel that we have both been let down and put down on our efforts, essentially told not to try.this is heart breaking, and knowing that service dog trainers have faith in him while a vet will ostrosize his progress is devistating to me.this should be a safe space I can get my dogs medical work done in, not one where I am anxious to arrive and worried that my dog will have another inaccurate label added to him.

They have the caring and courteous staff. Your animals are the most important thing to them
15 February 2023 15:37
Our dogs always wag their tails! We have seen several vets, all of whom are skilled, kind and communicate well. Great with puppies and senior dogs. The front end staff and techs are the perfect balance of professional and friendly. I'd give 10 stars if I could. THANK YOU for all you do!

Emergency services were not available “for your pet at this time” whatever that means. Worst feeling when your pet is in need of attention and they turn you away at the door.

We recently moved to the valley and have visited Van Isle Vet twice so far with our cats. The staff are all very kind and welcoming, and Dr. Connor has particularly been excellent with our cats! They also stock a large selection of pet foods including the diet that our cats are currently on which is great.

Prices are fair and have never had any problems. Would highly recommend!

Thank you so much for being so compassionate and caring. It’s always extremely difficult to have to say good bye to a pet. I can’t thank you enough for fitting us in last night and
Ensuring Lucy was comfortable during her final moments. ️
24 November 2022 19:22
Always a good experience at Van Isle Vet for myself and my pets. Caring and thoughtful staff. Relaxing, quiet atmosphere for nervous pets.
21 November 2022 3:18
The staff here are always fantastic. We've been going to Chris cannon for many years and he's amazing. He's realistic, kind, sympathetic and just all around a wonderful vet. If we can't get in to see him, he always follows up with a phone call. Really can't say enough good about this place.
18 November 2022 20:10
Best care I have had for all my animals, even my chicken. Traveling almost an hour to come here is more than worth it. Dr. Cannon has always gone over and beyond in care and treatment. Day and night.
10 November 2022 21:00
Outstanding service and care. Fully explained the options, risks, benefits and yes the costs. 3 TPLO surgeries (on different dogs) and they walk and run really well. Not quite perfectly like before they blew their tendons but the only difference is that when they get tired they start to favour their knees and it's time to stop, go home and rest up. As opposed to essentially being unable to walk or bear weight, this is a fantastic outcome.

Had to drop in to get my dog's paw checked out. Lovely building and really helpful friendly staff.
03 July 2022 18:04
Fantastic experience dealing with these guys. We brought our Greyhound in and the team here did an amazing job at making sure he was taken care of properly. They stitched him up really well which is quite difficult with the thin greyhound skin. He has healed up really nicely and is doing well!
I would 100% recommend Van Isle Vet to anyone.
Thank you!

We were grateful that Van Isle Was able to get our dog in early to see the veterinarian. Unfortunately, no staff would take any time to speak with us after the procedures until we demanded it. It was really upsetting to be given back our beloved pet without any consideration of the questions or concerns we had with home care. Considering the large price tag you would think five minutes of customer service would be included.

Edit: The clinic contacted us and apologized for the situation. It was a miscommunication due to the tech responsible being called off on an emergency. We greatly appreciate the follow up and hope that it will improve client experience.
07 March 2022 7:34
Can't even remove used vet wrap just pulled it down and left it on. Over priced just for a check up/visit. A half hour check in with an animal should not cost 250. Overall there are plenty of better vets in the valley that actually go out of there way to help mitigate unnecessary cost rather than trying to convince you to spend more time and money for subpar service.
10 October 2021 18:34
It's really disappointing to order dog food at this vet and be treated in a disrespectful manner.

I certainly hope I am never stuck for an after hours vet and need to come to this place. I would not entrust my dog to these people.
19 September 2021 2:29
Please, please, please take your pet elsewhere. They do not care about the pet, just the pay check. Unprofessional and one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. Please, if you value your animal, just go somewhere else. They could not care less about your animal, they are only lining their pockets with your grief.
25 June 2021 12:27
We've been taking our pets here for years. Primarily with Dr. DeWinter but everyone there is always very kind and helpful. She's seen us thru the lives of a few elderly pets with health issues. She won't recommend anything that will make them or us uncomfortable. Gives us the options and lets us decide.
21 June 2021 18:16
We take our dogs and cats here. They have been great with us and the animals so far and the staff seem friendly and professional.
30 April 2021 13:05
Huge thank you to Dr. Judy and Dr. Christie at Van Isle for their kindness and support given to my grandmother when her senior cat was very ill. Although there wasn't anything that could be done for Kiwi to bring her back to health, we knew she was going to be given the best care possible. Front desk staff were amazing the next day when she went to take care of the bill. Highly, highly recommend.
11 April 2021 16:03
A wonderful veterinary clinic. Reception is always pleasant and helpful. I've seen two different veterinarians here and both were professional, compassionate, and very knowledgeable. The clinic can get busy at times, but I've never had to book more than a two weeks ahead of time.
11 April 2021 10:11
Dr. Christie is knowledgeable, kind and compassionate. We are so appreciative of the care she provided for our sweet companion, and for the assistance she provided us in navigating an incredibly difficult time.
04 March 2021 17:09
I want to thank the staff at Van Isle for being so kind and compassionate. You put my worries at ease over the phone about my cat Ghost, and were very pleasant to talk to. Great COVID protocols as well! Thank you:)

Previous review was posted accidentally as I had not yet been here.
I did have to bring my puppy in for a medical emergency the other day. I was seen immediately and my puppy was taken for treatment. My little guy is back to his happy self thanks to the staff!

I wanted to give a big thank you to Van Isle Veterinary Hospital for everything they did for Lily from getting a diagnosis along with everything else, keeping her comfortable and allowing us to have a couple of days with her before we had to say goodbye. Dr. Judy, Dr. Chris & Dr. Christie (I am sorry if I forget anyone), the nurses, techs and reception handling all of my phone calls, you were all incredible and thank you for everything. We miss our Lily but the kindness you gave to her is greatly appreciated Thank you for all you do

A good vet office which offers a variety of veterinarians to choose from.
My dog is a rescue, and hates going to the vet and the groomer. BUT! Van isle vet has done a great job of providing kind and gentle veterinary care to my not-so-easy dog. It takes 3 people to trim my dogs nails because he hates it so much a and they do a great job every time. My only reason for not voting 5 stars is because van isle vet gets extremely busy sometimes and it can take a little longer to get in/get ahold of them than at your typical smaller vet hospital.

Wonderful place for my pet and me! Firstly, the crew at the front counter, vet aids, Amy the pet Physio, all of the veterinarians are all top notch.
And the waiting area is amazing! My lab loves it there. Everyone is very kind and considerate,
Taking time to explain things and help with any issue you could imagine, involving your pet. You won’t regret it!

This is the best Vet I have ever been to. Candice and Laura are the most knowledgeable and sweetest people you could every ask for and took care of me and my dog in every case we have needed.

Through the stress of travel and up rooting my dog to Denmark they crossed the t’s and dotted the i’s they did everything in their power to make it as easy as possible for me.

I Will always recommend this vet and will continue to seek out their guidance and suggestions.

Thank you so much to everyone at Van Isle Vet you are all super incredible and my dog loves all the attention and treats you could throw his way.

All of the staff at Van Isle have been amazing with us since we brought our puppy home at 6 1/2 weeks - he is now a year and a half. They are incredibly loving, as well as organized. They have made appointments to get him in when needed and they have also answered many questions by phone for me when I have been an anxious first time dog Mum. They are great.
26 November 2019 18:32
I am no longer bringing my puppy to Van Isle Veterinary Hospital. They refused to see my puppy the last (3) times I’ve brought him in for his 3rd shot and needed medication for conjunctivitis. Hes 7.5 months old now and they still refused to give him the medical attention he so desperately needs. Today he had an appointment at 4pm and the front desk called me to cancel his appointment-We are done supporting Van Isle Vetrinary Hospital to say the least. The young girls that helped Omen in the past we’re friendly and caring, front desk people, not so much. Good luck treating your customers the way you do! I will find a more caring Animal Hospital, that actually cares about the animals health over money or petty issues. Please take down any existing pictures of Omen off your websites-thanx

Staff's really helpful and welcoming. They have a beautiful building. If I had one complaint they're almost too busy. Can take awhile to get an appointment.
17 October 2019 14:39
They were accommodating and helpful assisting me with a pet that I was looking after for somebody. They made me feel welcome even though I was a difficult to deal with.

This was hands down the worst veterinary experience of my entire life. My best friend and soul mate and dog Iolo had a sudden failing of his health while I was away in Los Angeles picking up an RV for us to live in together.

It looked like he wasn't going to make it even 24 hours. The doctor put him on pain meds and my mother took him home. I got an emergency flight home but it looked like I wasn't going to make the ferry back to the island in time.

Not wanting to keep him alive longer than he needed to if he ended up being in pain I asked my mom to meet me in Vancouver and I could see him right away and have some time with him and we could take him to a 24 hour clinic in Vancouver to have him put down.

I called Van Isle Hospital to ask the doctor for a recommendation of an emergency hospital in Vancouver.

The Doctor refused saying she didn't want me to take him on the ferry. She said that if on the 1.5 hour ferry ride he were to decline then he would be trapped and she didn't want him trapped in pain.

She said that she gave him enough pain meds that he should be just fine and they can give him another round in the morning and I can have the day with him and they can put him down in the afternoon pain free. I didn't feel good about it but she was giving doctors orders and so I agreed.

This was at 4pm on a Saturday. I arrive in Vancouver at 10pm and there were no more sailings, I missed the ferry by 30 minutes and it would be another 12 hours before I would see my boy. We parked at the ferry terminal, my stomach in knots, he was only 9.5 years old. To wait the long night before the am ferry.

Then at 5am he started whimpering in pain and crying. I was on the phone with my mom and crying. We immediately called Van Isle emergency services and the attendant said the doctor would call back. 1 hour later no response. Iolo was howling in pain. I called again.

It was another call and another hour at least before we got a hold of the doctor.

My mom wasn't able to move him alone in the state he was in and the staff at Van Isle said they were too understaffed to do a house call. They said to bring him in when the clinic opened at 9am. That would be at least 4 hours of howling pain for my baby boy.

By the time I got home he had declined so much that he could no longer move and he was terrified and in terrible pain. We used a flat board and loaded him in the car and rushed him to the hospital.

At the hospital, the staff came outside and without even looking at iolo who was crying in pain they asked me questions about payment and to sign a waiver.

They didn't ask about any pain medication, they immediately got him prepared for the lethal injection which I hadn't discussed at all. The doctor said nothing about my dog being trapped for FIVE hours instead of the 1.5 hours that he would have been fine the night before while he was on the pain meds.

There was no apology. No explanation. Instead of giving him pain medication to calm down before they lethally injected him they just immediately injected him. His yelps of pain turned into a howl of pain and he was gone. In a rush, in an instant. I had no time with him to say goodbye.

It was only afterwards that I was processing and realized I could have maybe calmed him down with pain meds before putting him down. Although he was already paralyzed from seizures and terrified and had gone through an entire night of torture that wasn't necessary.

It would have been multiple times better to bring him to Vancouver to see me and let him go than be abandoned by the staff at Van Isle.

I was shocked and appalled at the heartless treatment of me and my boy in his final day at this hospital. This was the single worst and most horrifying doctor and staff experiences of my life.

I'm not sure if the motivation was money but it was not for the concern of the well being of my dog.

I will never ever use Van Isle Vet Hospital again. I regret doing so and I regret my baby boy's final day being in the care of this facility.

On the day we brought home our new Maine Coon kitten, Wolfe, we brought him to Van Isle to discover he was born with a sliding hiatal hernia. The staff admitted him for a few weeks to safely feed and monitor him until he was big enough to undergo surgery in Vancouver. I can't say enough good things about the staff here. They've gone above and beyond to treat Wolfe as he is their own, keep us informed daily, provide a comfortable space for our daily visits. Thank you, to the entire staff for saving our little guys life and keeping him happy, loved and comfortable during such a scary time. We are thrilled to finally have him at home!

Huge shout out to Van Isle for being so accommodating, we had an issue with a dog getting scratched by ours at the dog park, the owner was trying to get us to pay them $500.00 saying that's what the vet charged him, I was able to find out the vet and contact these guys and pay the $83.00 bill directly to them and have them give me a receipt and reimburse the owners.

I spoke with Amanda and she was really kind and understanding about the entire situation and was able to email me the bill within the hour. I really appreciated being able to deal with the bill directly with the vet it made things a lot better for us.
23 May 2019 11:22
I have had only great experiences dealing with the staff here. They are all wonderful and always friendly. The Vet’s themselves are knowledgable and never try to persuade you to spend money unnecessarily which I very much appreciate.
29 April 2019 12:49
The staff are professional, friendly and very caring. I've had my cat there several times as she is a very senior cat and has had many complications. They have helped me to understand how she is changing and what I might expect going forward.
20 April 2019 12:40
Everyone at Van Isle is just awesome. I've always had a great experience with them, and I won't take my beloved pets anywhere else.

Still a warm and welcoming place, very happy to have an understanding, and compassionate team. -Total professionalism here.
