My husband is a frail senior. He went to VGH
emergency by ambulance and then to be
hospitalized many times since beginning of this
year.
We just wish to say thanks to emergency
section and inpatient department:
Many thanks to medical teams, nurses, doctors,
assistants, administration groups, and so on for
their hard work, excellent professional skills,
friendly caring, lots of happy faces.
Also thanks for their understanding with patient
and family members of patient.

Slow.went in at245am because nobody up then.sat waiting until 545am.they took others.brought more people and took them I understand priority everyone else went first so I got up walked out.going to st.paul's later.had enough of hospitals right now.just going through reviews, it seems every other patient had a bad experience at vgh. I understand it takes a very special person to work in this environment.it's not easy but if you can't be consistent may be find a new career.sending people out the door in pain and mad from lack of service has got to be addressed

Staff at the hospital are very caring and polite. I’ve admitted twice and was very satisfied with my stay.
10 September 2023 13:50
Grateful for the attention provided, when my grandfather Andres was hospitalized in 7C, to the Nursing team Leslie, Hanna, Hannamarie, Evelin and Marlon, especially to the social worker Joyti, Blessings to you guys, from Mexico
07 June 2023 8:55
Severed my finger and waited 5 hours drenched in blood until someone helped clean my hand and stitch me up. No pain meds, no ice pack or anything! I understand there are different priorities but the least they can do is be transparent with patients if there arent available doctors. Level of care is tremendously lacking.

Was at the Acute Center @ Vancouver General Hospital recently. I would rate my experience with a ZERO star if I could. Waited for almost 8 (EIGHT) hours for treatment. The nurses station is rather unorganized and there does not seem to be much cooperation. If you want service you have to approach the station and enquire otherwise they will simply let you wait for hours. One male nurse was rather RUDE in Acute centre C - frankly he should NOT be hired for the job. Totally lack of job knowledge, rude, very bossy attitude - he thinks that he 'owns' the unit although we the tax payers are the ones PAYING his salary. Because of the lack of cooperation or coordination resulted in the inefficiency of the unit which in many ways contributed to the very LONG WAITS.
I wish the hospital management will hire someone to analyze the efficiency/productivity of the hospital operation overall. Its patient service is TOTALLY unacceptable.

Besides the parking every staff member is amazing and they've taken care of many family members throughout the years. Thank you to all the nurses, doctors and care aids, this world wouldn't keep going without you ️️️️️️️️️️
14 April 2023 15:11
One of the best treatments and care I have ever received. All people, from doctors, RNs, student nurses, receptionists, and housekeeping, everything is world-class. Over my stay can't figure out a negative thing to point out.
Room T94, will always be in my heart.
13 April 2023 7:48
So the doctor who operated on the wrong eye of the woman is not fired from his position? He didn't even apologize? So disgusting!
09 April 2023 13:13
Slow service, kind personal but the system is very slow,
My little daughter has pain for 4 days and she didnt slept I said there she has been have pain sice 4 days ago but we wait in waiting room more than three hours and my daughter continously cried.

THIS IS TOO RIDICULOUS! 8 HOURS WAITING FOR A 2 MINS TEST? CANADA DOESN’T DESERVE ANY TALENTS UNLESS THEY IMPROVE THEIR HEALTHCARE SERVICE! OTHERWISE TALENTS COULD DIE HERE YOUNG BECAUSE OF THE POOR HEALTHCARE. WE PAY OVER 50% ON TAXES, IS THIS THE SERVICE YOU PROVIDE TO CANADIAN? !
TOO DISAPPOINTED!
THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME DECIDED TO GIVE UP THE CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP! THIS COUNTRY DOESN’T CARE PEOPLE’S LIFE! YOU DON’T DESERVE THE TAX WE PAY!

Nasty attitude from ER doctor!
Waited 5 hours without a single word of complaint at the ER to be finally seen by a doctor. When he came in to the room, right away he expressed a nasty attitude and started questioning me about why I had to come to the VGH ER. He gave me a speech about how my condition is not critical and is often seen by doctors as “normal” and would go away by itself. Some blood vessels bursted in my eye and I felt pain, and I told him that the Richmond ER told me to go to VGH if I ever felt pain in my eye as there is an ophthalmologist on call there. He said Richmond ER shouldn’t have told me that, and should already have assessed my condition as normal. He was quite rough when he applied eye drops in my eyes while giving me the speech. So I told him that I don’t enjoy waiting for 5 hours at the ER either and was only there because I am NOT a doctor and was concerned about my condition! If I knew it was normal then I wouldn’t waste 5 hours of my time at the ER! I understand and appreciate that they are busy and most likely short staffed, but to take it out on a patient like this is very unprofessional and uncalled for!
13 February 2023 3:32
I have been for a couple MRI’s. St Paul’s, the staff are actually nicer, but the equipment here is much better. Machines at St Paul’s are kind of broken. Concerning.
04 February 2023 4:30
Not the best hospital! Everything is fine nurses are very caring but they don’t pay attention to certain things. My grandmother had a UTI and got sent to this hospital the nurses took great care of her but they said she’s fine and sent her out of the hospital a couple days later while she still had her infection saying “ oh yeah her infections gone she’s fine” 2 days later my grandmother got sent back to the hospital for a UTI
31 January 2023 3:19
Busy but to be expected at any hospital, we got in and out in about 4.5hours, which I figured is reasonable. Staff were very helpful and friendly but knew their jobs, fer sure.

Ma belle-fille étant en immersion pour 6 mois en Anglais à été hospitalisée impossible de l'avoir au téléphone il refuse catégoriquement.
Il refuse son rapatriement en Belgique.
C'est une bande de vrai sauvage
09 January 2023 23:17
Dirty hospital. Blood in the sinks.didn't see anyone sanitizing anything AT ALL very disgusted by my first experience here.
04 January 2023 6:14
Have been treated inappropriately since I was in the hospital. Even lost my right to access my laptop which is ridiculous. I need to do some work to make sure my future is not ruined and to keep alive (I would say is an excuse but a reason for me to keep alive). I already told them about this but they didn’t care. I feel like my life has been taken away brutally and the hospital only cares about rules rather than my life being. I was forced to delete my recording and has been threatened if I disclose my recording they gonna call security to “deal with me”

Thanks, this hospital really helps me to feel unsafe and afraid that my basic human rights are taken away, or I’ve lost my last hope of being alive.
27 December 2022 23:35
Been to VGH ER a few times, service was always hit and miss but that is expected from a high volume ER. Sunday I was admitted to VGH and was extremely impressed with all staff. I was treated with dignity, never felt like I was over reacting. Sadly I do not remember my nurses names but I was on the 9th floor. Thank you VGH for helping my to my road to recovery
24 December 2022 10:31
Worst place to visit no direction, personal on information desk don’t now where patient should go
15 December 2022 23:40
I was bitten by some insect and had a red swelling on my lower body.
I took various medicines including steroids for several days after that, but it did not heal. Instead, the disease spread to my whole body and I could not sleep because of the itchiness.
That is why I went to this hospital.
However, the nurse at the reception desk told me, "I have a red swollen sore on the bottom half of my body.
What's wrong with itching? "
I said, "I can't sleep.
The nurse tilted her head, gave me a piece of paper with the number of another hospital on it, and dismissed me at the door.
Apparently, this hospital only deals with dying zombies.
They won't even refer me to a dermatologist.
I will never go there again.

2 weeks ago my husband & I were at a Resort in BC & my husband had a fall by the poolside. Kristy Macleod, a VGH nurse, in the Cancer bone marrow department happened to be around & she came promptly to my husband’s aide. She was there to celebrate her sister’s bday, but at that time we became her priority & both sisters compassionately stayed beside us until my husband felt a little better. She even went as far as giving us her room # & phone # in case if we needed her help in the middle of the night. Praying to God to protect Kristy as she performs noble & selfless acts of caring her patients.
With much respect and gratefulness to both sisters “Kristy & Karen Macleod”.

Thanks to the College your doctor is no longer acting in your behalf but the Covid dictatorship instead. Does that make you feel safe?
16 November 2022 15:04
VGH is one of Vancouver's major hospitals. All the medical services are available here or nearby in the other medical centres. Pay garage, or time limited free street parking. #letsguide #covid
08 August 2022 11:07
Have had several recent hospital admissions and can attest to the kindness and support of nurses, doctors and support staff. The unsung heroes are the housekeeping staff who have also worked tirelessly through the pandemic along with the medical staff.
05 August 2022 2:17
The nurses and doctors saves my son life?
Thank you for your hard work you do for all of us.
31 July 2022 21:10
Thanks to all the staff at VGH. The drs and nurses were fantastic getting me through the most difficult time in life. Special thanks to Dr Grant, Dr Brown and staff and the nurse's at step down unit on level 12. There are not enough thank yous But thanks You all
11 July 2022 17:28
Walked in (Pedro Lazar me being the patient) to Emergency with pneumonia two days ago around 3: 30 am (because I stopped breathing twice) and had the following lovely experience lol. Mid sentance she (intake nurse) cuts me off and says in an agressive tone, " I have to write down every thing you say and I'm the one that asks questions! " Bravo for bedside manner! To top it off, she says, "you were traveling so probably just a flu. " Well, turns out after the x ray as mentioned in my second sentance she was wrong. I understand there is a high burn out rate but for god sakes treat people with dignity and stop being so hostile (patients aren't punching bags for your long days). Furthermore, how professional to give a medical assumption after taking vitals. Brilliant as they come. The doctor was great and other nurses who helped with x-ray and blood work were too.
25 June 2022 17:14
Horrible experiences here especially if you have mental health concerns or problems.night shift nurses assume everyone is addicted to drugs and therefore they treat them lesser regardless of if drugs have anything to do with why patients are there.their AAC program is slightly better but I honestly wouldn’t come to this emergency centre unless it was life or death and you had no other option. I understand the nurses are overworked and understaffed but they were also actively neglectful and administering care improperly. I left retraumatized and with no more of a plan than I came in there with for ongoing care.
24 June 2022 17:37
If you go at night there will be no doctors, and you'll have to wait until morning to have a doctor tell you simply to take some aspirin.
08 June 2022 10:28
I had a good experience at this hospital. Long wait time but that's understandable because the ER was packed. When I did see the doctor she was very knowledgeable and understanding of my emergency. It's not their fault that it's super busy people.
05 June 2022 6:58
Awful nurses, absolutely terrible and not compassionate. The doctors were kind but the nurses were absolutely atrocious. I cant believe that is how patients are treated at this hospital. Try to go somewhere else
17 May 2022 18:03
The one star is for my doctor's because they were actually great and understanding. One of the nurses was nice, but a lot of the nurses their were extremely rude and unhelpful.even though i was about to pass out and was in excruciating pain, they just yelled at me from afar and told me to lay down, even though i was about to lose consciousness. One nurse even forgot to record that i fainted.if i even got a hold of one and asked for water (because i was trying not to pass out) they said later and never gave it to me (multiple times). Sometimes i felt that they were purposefully ignoring me, since i had asked for help to one of the nurses and she looked me dead in the eyes and walked away.i was sitting there screaming in pain and the nurses were walking by without checking on me.the wait for the doctor's was a big issue too, since every time i asked (every hour by the way cause i knew they were busy) they were unavailable.i understand it was a busy hospital, but i wished the nurses were more kind and attentive instead of ignoring someone who was about to pass out.i feel that the nurses there are desensitized to patients so i understand that aspect as well, however, the rudeness and ignoring i could not understand.the doctor's were extremely helpful and understanding and did their best so i have no complaints for them.
15 May 2022 14:35
Request for health record since 2 months ago, haven’t heard back about anything. Tried to call the health record department, but they keep connect me with other extension line as if they’re trying to avoid the conversation and finally they put me into voicemail
12 May 2022 5:24
I had my heart tests two months ago, because of my heart pain, it’s been two months I’m begging to get my results but no department is assisting me, come on these are my records please attract tell me what issues I have. Worst!
09 March 2022 0:40
Great facility. Cutting-edge, and while there's always room for improvement, other hospitals in the surrounding (lower income) regions could be as professional and up-to-date. In fact, why tf aren't they? Is this a caste society of elitism or a social democracy? Are we in Snowpiercer? Let's let the others catch up a little, VGH. Don't steal ALL the Fraser-region's thunder/funding. I miss living in Van some days.
08 March 2022 23:54
No compassion no empathy. I was made to walk inside the hospital for 15 minutes while I had excruciating stomach pain. When I asked for help they said I have to walk and denied a wheel chair.

Once I reached the department I waited for 5 hours and left. Never got my blood work reports.
06 March 2022 22:29
I swear the nurses here these days are more and more careless and it’s almost like they WANT you to catch Covid. I went in for a checkup for a fracture I have and was told to go in through emergency. A nurse walks me to the xray section and told me to sit, of all places in the near empty area, in a chair that is RIGHT NEXT to a gurney with an older sick-looking woman on it coughing and coughing. I’m sitting on the chair and am 2 inches away from this gurney holding a coughing woman I was shocked that the nurse even put me there and after seeing other available seats I wonder if she did it on purpose. About 2 days later I officially had Covid and brought it home to all my family. My view is that these nurses feel they are suffering having to work during a pandemic that they may just even inflict suffering on others so we can feel their “pain”. Worse experience and because of their neglect I feel like I could die any day now
19 February 2022 18:47
Terrible hospital terrible nurses. They’ll take your loved ones and refuse to give any information. Essentially a prison. Overall extremely frustrated and will steer clear. I repeat if you are considering going here for mental health services seriously reconsider.
17 February 2022 18:11
My mom passed away there. It was a horrible experience dealing with the doctors there, they switch doctors every week so i guess no one can blame any one of them as they just keep switching until she die. Nurses were nice but sometimes I have a feeling that they talk to us because he/she has to spy on us for the doctors. Trying to find out what we have in mind and so that they can push us to give up our mother. I don’t want to step a foot in that hospital again if possible.
27 December 2021 4:50
Nice staff and medical service. I am giving a two star simply because of lack of parking space. It is hard to find a parking spots anytime of the day. More parking should be provided to patients. I typically come 40mins ahead of time to find parking, sometimes still late to my appointments. Very difficult situation…
24 December 2021 8:52
Went to the emergency last week, and had to go back to the emergency for result after some test outside the emergency. Not sure why they use that system as I waited for more than three hours to get the results, which were announced at the waiting room with no privacy. Honestly I have no idea who approved such and what was the conclusion to come up with such a practice. Telling patients results in front of everyone.
03 December 2021 15:23
Although you have to wait for a long time like all the other hospitals in Canada, some nurses r nice enough to answer my requests and calling! Not bad
06 November 2021 17:56
Disgusted with my experience there. Every single woman at the admission desk was terrible, rude, and refused to help my partner scheduled for surgery at 7am until payment went through which couldn't happen until 8: 30am. Her exact words were "he cannot go up [to pre-op] until payment goes through". I offered my credit card and ID to hold as collateral so my starving and in-pain partner could at least go up and get started. They said there was nothing they could do, when I asked who *can* help me she just stared blankly. As a Canadian citizen I've never been more embarrassed by our health care system. Patients should ALWAYS come first, especially over money. Disgusting. We then waited 8 hours until he finally got in for his operation. The anaesthesiologist however Dr. Lynn Walker I believe was her name was fantastic. But I would never come back to a money hungry, unprofessional, disgusting place like this. St. Paul's is MUCH better and patient-centered
06 October 2021 22:21
From pre-op to release I was given compassionate, professional care. The anesthesiologist took time to carefully answer all my questions and went out of his way to make me comfortable. The nurses were amazing! And physio and occupational therapists were careful and thorough. I was pleasantly shocked by how great my care was from start to finish.
25 September 2021 5:57
The hospital service is so good but the only thing about here which is so bad (paladin security). There’s a one guy named N Gupta in paladin security. He was so rude and he don’t even know how to talk to the patient. Please teach him, otherwise the goodwill of paladin will be in danger.
13 September 2021 5:44
I had excellent service here when I had my appendix removed in 2008. Unfortunately a couple of weeks ago I brought my Dad in for possible symptoms of a heart attack or stroke given his history. He was sent home saying he had nerve damage in his neck. Thank god he followed up with his GP. Turns out he DOES have a blockage and needs a triple by pass. How could something like this be overlooked? !
08 August 2021 10:02
I have been a frequent visitor of VGH, St. Paul’s and MSJ in the last 20 years of so since I was diagnosed with Cancer. I always tried to avoid going to VGH because of lack of organizing and staff attitude and so on
It has gotten better over the years but still not comparable with for example with MSJ. And I’m strictly speaking about staff attitude and handling the patient’s need. Well, I was surprised to see a big shift in that front at VGH when I went to ER a few month ago and was totally blown out from what I saw. I have been there a few times this year and found it strikingly amazing the transformation that has occurred. 2 thumbs up VGH
01 August 2021 22:16
Never go to VGH!

I have a psychiatric condition. No matter what reason for which I present myself at VGH, that condition will not be addressed and VGH will imprison me for asking questions. Avoid this place like the plague. St Paul's actually has some respect and compassion for its patients.
11 July 2021 0:26
Worst hospital and doctors I have ever experienced.
Went to the emergency room with a torn ligament, LOTS of pain and swollen ankle. Doctors told me that they couldn’t do anything for me as it wasn’t broken and that “don’t do that type of surgery there and couldn’t refer me to a doctor”. Left with nothing and was advise to take ADVIL for the pain. Don’t know if you have ever torn a ligament, but it hurts like hell. Still have remarks of this terrible day and the injury. Avoid this place at all costs
25 May 2021 23:18
For once in my life I am satisfied with the healthcare I’m getting! Every other place I’ve had to wait 4 days for ultrasound results where as here I had my ultrasound and within 30mins had the results! The staff is also very friendly and professional, I haven’t had a single snobby nurse
15 May 2021 2:34
Huge thank you for the fantastic staff and how I was so kindly treated and how efficient everyone was. I cannot thank them enough. Especially during these trying covid times. Thank you for all that you do.
08 May 2021 10:48
I had a surgery in January at VGH and stayed there for three days. I had a wonderful hospital experience during my stay. I was well taken care of from the beginning to the end. My thoracic surgeon, Dr. John Yee and his team were very friendly and professional and really made me feel at ease about the surgery. The nurses at T12A, Debbie, Ming, and student nurse Rainel were kind, attentive, and took very good care of me. I can't express my appreciation enough. My stay made me really appreciate how hard the doctors and nurses work and how great they are. Thank you!
03 May 2021 1:15
Excellent care, excellent stuffs, hardworking doctors and nurses.
They do their best always.
Am thankful, for their amazing work

Vancouver General Hospital (locally known as VGH, or Vancouver General) is a medical facility located in Vancouver, British Columbia. It is the largest facility in the Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre (VHHSC) group of medical facilities. VGH is Canada's third largest hospital (by bed count), after Hamilton General Hospital (1st), and Foothills Medical Centre (2nd).

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is responsible for all operations at Vancouver General Hospital.

The Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) first opened in 1886 a nine-bed tent, its primary use to treat railway workers. On June 13,1886, a fire destroyed the tent hospital and by July, a new, one-storey building was built. In September, the City of Vancouver took over the facility, which became the City Hospital. In 1888, located at the southern edge of the original Gastown settlement, a 35-bed hospital opened, as the tent infirmary became too small. The upstairs ward was for female patients, the downstairs ward for males. In 1899, the Vancouver City Hospital Training School for Nurses was opened. In 1902, British Columbia provincial legislature transferred control from the city's board of health to a board of 15 directors. Vancouver City Hospital was renamed to Vancouver General Hospital.

In 1906, in Fairview Ridge, overlooking False Creek, a new building, the Heather Pavilion, began housing staff and patients. The University of British Columbia Medical School opened clinical facilities at VGH in 1950.

In 1959, VGH opened the "Centennial Pavilion" (named in commemoration of the centennial of the founding of British Columbia as a British Crown colony, in 1858), which at the time was the largest part of the VGH facilities.

In the 1960s, VGH build Canada's first intensive care nursery, equipped with the first effective apparatus used for natural breathing in infants with respiratory failure.

In 1996, VGH opened the first three floors of its newly constructed Laurel Pavilion. In 2000, the Laurel Pavilion was renamed to the Jim Pattison Pavilion and construction of the final 12 floors began in 2001. The Jim Pattison Pavilion opened in 2003.

In 2004, the ground-breaking for new Gordon and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre began. This new building, adjacent to the Jim Pattison Pavilion, opened in August 2006 to provide acute day care services in a variety of areas.

The Lung Centre specializes in the treatment of pulmonary conditions such as asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, lung cancer, occupational and environmental lung diseases, sarcoidosis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, pulmonary hypertension and interstitial lung disease.

The Blusson Spinal Cord Centre, the world’s largest, most advanced and most comprehensive facility devoted to spinal cord injury research and patient care was opened in November 2008. The six-storey, $45-million centre is home to ICORD (International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries), the Rick Hansen Institute and the Brenda and Davide McLean Integrated Spine Clinic and is a partnership of the University of British Columbia, the Rick Hansen Foundation, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute, and the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation.

The Robert H. N. Ho Research Centre, opened in September 2011, is a seven-storey, 69,350 sq ft (6,443 m2) facility that houses three of VGH’s key research programs: the Vancouver Prostate Centre at VGH; the Centre for Hip Health and Mobility; and the Ovarian Cancer Research Initiative.

VGH is the largest hospital in British Columbia, offering specialized and tertiary services to adult patients (18 and above) in Vancouver. The hospital accepts patients referred from other parts of the province requiring highly specialized services. Approximately 40% of the hospital's cases come from outside the Vancouver region. Vancouver General Hospital is an internal medicine hospital, with pediatric and maternal care services in the Vancouver region being offered by BC Children's Hospital and BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre.

Thank you VGH. God bless all of the Doctors, Nurses, and all medical staff and everyone who makes up this hospital. Blessed to be living in Vancouver, for such great healthcare.
20 September 2019 8:05
Everytime I go to VGH it's because I'm broken in some manner. I leave fixed in a timely fashion. Frankly that's all I care about. Yay Healthcare! Hospital staff can starve me, steal my stuff and forget I exist as long as I come out healthy. And so far they are 100%

Had a breast issues. My nippple had been secreting blood and other fluids periodically or when the breast was pushed. The issue had been happening for about four days. I was seen by an older male doctor who acted afraid of breasts asked me to do part of my own exam, and generally lacked any visable confidence in his treatment. He acted suprised when I physically proved the issue I was coming in for by pushing on my breast and easily showing him blood coming out. He Told me repeatedly it was probably truama induced even though every possible scenario to create the issue was not something I'd experienced nor did I have any corresponding pain from a laceration or blunt truama. He left to " figure this out" and came back to tell me he asked a gyno but they don't deal with breast issues and then just didn't to do any imaging test because he was " sure its nothing and probably truama" and refered me to a women clinic telling me " this is an issue a clinic like this would deal with and they will refere you to a place to do immaging".

I feel a simple X ray could have easily been done to check for any mass and see if it was a simple as a clogged / infected duct.

I do not feel I was given proper care or consideration or even taken seriously as a women seeking medical treatment for a potentially very serious issue.
26 August 2019 19:24
I went to the ER last night and this was the worst experience of my life. What is the point of going to an "Emergency" hospital if I am just told to wait for a minimum of five hours? The people at the front desk were completely rude and unhelpful (not to mention very slow as they were distracted having casual conversations with their co-workers) and when I was moved to the treatment facility the lady at the desk showed no regard for my well-being to the slightest. When I expressed how bad my chest pains were and how I would need to see a doctor quickly she told me to wait for five hours or just go to the pharmacy. If drug store medicine could solve my chest pains I would have obviously already done that. The employees at VGH could care less if I dropped dead. This was the worst experience I have ever received from a health facility and its safe to say that in the event of an emergency I am better off alone then at this hospital.
24 August 2019 22:50
I understand the nature of the work is not a easy job in hospital. And here, I do show my appreciation to those doctors and nurses who truly dedicate to their job and unfortunately only a few.

I came to ER for help. Reception did not let my parents visit me and then let them wait outside for 6 hours till 2am. I was just sitting in ER and did not know my parents are waiting outside nor did my parents know how I was doing. My parents are seniors. This is how Vancouver hospital treat our family and a very sick patient. They also took my belonging away and did not return.

More, when I stayed in hospital, I was traumatized and shocked. The environment and atmosphere of the place I stayed in was unfriendly and bias and one time I was being labelled and I felt very offended. Only very few nurses showed sincere care. And here again I deeply appreciate their effort.

I do not want to report to any of the management as I do not see it's helpful. So I tolerate from the beginning till being released.
It had been the worst nightmare in my life.
17 August 2019 3:27
Oct 31 2017 I was taken to an ER room where I was abandoned. I was told that I would be given some medicine and no one did so. I waited for hours until a doctor came and let me know I could go home.

Also the attitude is not caring at all. Unbelievable.
02 August 2019 15:41
Excellent care in the VGH. ER.i was impressed on how the workers care and treat you with the volume and challenges that day. Way to go!
02 August 2019 7:00
Dr. Eric does not care about his patients or to understand their situation, only goes through the motions
24 July 2019 18:47
I had thoracic surgery to remove a cyst. The whole process was as flawless as humanly possible. Have to say that my experience with the health care system was a very positive one. Just imagine having a roughly 4" by 4" cyst removed with almost no accompanying pain. Between the time I registered and left the hospital, my stay was about 24 hours. The thoracic surgeon, Dr. Alexander Lee, was the star of the show but the supporting cast of nurses, other doctors and everyone else that I met were nothing short of amazing. Within three days, I was exercising for an hour per session in the gym (five days in a row). Built up the exercise time to two hours within ten days.

I can highly recommend the surgeon and the hospital.

I had prostrate cancer surgery at VGH.from Dr. Gleave and his team, they are talented, caring and classy professionals. Also the nursing and support staff are awesome. Canada has no worries about health care when it is these amazing folks hands.

I went to vancouver general hospital ER. My husband waited for more than 2hours in the ward. Even though there was very very very slow at that point, neither of the nurses or doctors were willing to talk to us, even though he has serious issue. We got sick of waiting and left without any single treatment or guidance, still no words since we left there. When we were leaving three nurses were just sitting in front of the computer and having non professional communication while my husband was suffering and waiting for the treatment for 2 hours. I am extremely disappointed how the staff did not care about the situation, I found the staff appalling.

This place has made me lose all confidence and any and all medical staff in the entirety of bc. I hear these nurses say things like "we dont discriminate, we just fix people" is a total lie when it comes to vgh. Not only did they treat me like a dirty street bum (which I am not) they also refused to help me in any way. I have a fairly serious medical issue, yet they let me sit in the hospital all day and never once said a word to me. There were very few people waiting aside from me. I'm appalled by these nurses and doctors. Never in my life have I seen such unprofessionalism. Without a doubt this is the worst use of a medical facility in the entire country, especially for one who takes tax dollars. Why do we pay them? They do not do anything. They're rude and it needs to change.

Hello people, please stop whining!
Doctors and nurses are doing a hell
of a job every day and night! They are saving lives! We are lucky enough to have an amazing medical care in Canada! And it’s free! Are you kidding me about picking on a toilets? Be happy with what you’re privileged to have! My son is a patient here. And I’m greatly appreciate all the care he receive for the past two years! Thank you very much VGH!

THIEVES! I was admitted in critical condition via helicopter to the ER. My jewelry was removed and placed in a little jar with my name etc on it. My friend watched the staff remove my clothes and jewelry.
Somehow, when I woke up and was given my stuff back, my pair of custom made, stone cut amethyst plug earrings were GONE. Someone from the hospital STOLE my earrings while I lay dying in the ER.
I phoned to make a report to the lost & found.
Two weeks later I called back for a follow up and the woman in the lost & found told me that my report had never been taken down, there was no info about me or my case. The previous security man lied to me.
So now I am waiting for an actual followup, or will have to pursue this matter with more legality.

The hospital intake staff apparently didn't believe the name on my own health card was my real name, so they put it in quotation marks. Can't read?

UPDATE: THE SECOND REPORT WAS NEVER FILED and the security guy, when I asked to speak with the supervisor, passed the phone without muting it and I heard him trashing me! I asked the supervisor why is he paying people for this absolutely unacceptable service and I want to file a complaint so I am doing that. AWFUL do not use this hospital!

Went here to the ER. The doctor was really useless. Very disappointed with them. I appreciate the fact treatment's free and all in Canada but the systems are so clogged up and make it extremely difficult for a newcomer to get urgent medical assistance.
After waiting for 4+ hours in the ER, the only thing the doctor can do is hand me a prescription? I mean what is the point of going to the ER? Pathetic!

In the very early hours of June 13th 2017, I took my elderly father to the Emergency room at VGH. After waiting for hours, a female Doctor, abruptly and rudely wakes up my father, scaring the hell out of him. No ounce of kindness. Startled him, an elderly man, who obviously isn't doing well. This "Doctor", in her 50's, caucasian, round face, kinda overweight, short-ish brown hair, should NOT have her licence. This man, that she abruptly woke up, was a retired Doctor, a REAL Doctor. The best and kindest. And she does her rounds in a hurry, like she hates her job, doesn't want to be there, and does this unforgivable act of treating someone that way. Please find her, and teach her how to do her job right. I will be looking for her and will talk to her.

I went to VHG last week. The information and CT scan receptionist were really friendly, but the radiologist was rude and careless. The pillow on the CT scan machine was super stinky. I can even smell someone else's saliva. They didn't change the linen after my scan. The toilet in VHG were dirty too. Half of the toilets were running out of toilet paper. I hope I will never return to this place again.
