It's a great place to get away from all the chaos of the outside of the Carnegie Hall. I wish the DTES was like it was before expo 86 it was a great expo but it brought the pain too and this place hasn't been the same since but there is a silver lining to every cloud here. A lot of us hide our pain from others but when you get to know some folks here you feel there pain to and your heart will change to see past there injury and the love in there hearts and the value every human being down here needs love. Be kind! Don't hate.

There is a restaurant upstairs on 2nd floor. Very good price such as $2.75 for a lunch for the proletariat.

Altruistic staff very well versed in dealing with the indigent and socially marginalised as it is located in the heart of the DTES (Downtown East Side) and deals with alcoholics and victims of substance abuse on a daily basis. Building is currently undergoing an exterior refurbishing, so disabled access may be problematic at this time. The Centre provides a central hub or meeting place for the displaced and homeless, a worthy asset for the socially displaced. I hope my comments are of some help to anyone looking for a safe place to spend a day plagued by Vancouver's "liquid sunshine " MJP

The library system in Vancouver is amazing. The architecture of the downtown main branch alone is worth checking out.
There is an immense variety of services provided by the system as a whole.
It offers a large # of Internet and printer connected computers that are available to book for specific times.
A huge variety of DVD and blue ray movies ranging from educational to TV shows and Hollywood blockbusters.
A good selection of video games from PS2, X-box one, Nintendo Wii and nintendo switch plus a few other consoles.
A massive selection of grafic novels and magazines.
A large children's section downstairs and several other levels of books both fiction and non fiction.
There is even a recording studio along with musical instruments available to borrow.
If there is a book you are looking for and can't find they will get it sent from another branch to the branch of your choosing. Even if the book isn't part of the catolouge they will order it for you.
Plus there are dozens of other features that ive missed.
All and all I have to say I am overly impressed with the entire VPL
