We came in on a Sunday when our regular vet was closed (and actually hard to book). We gave up the idea of going to ER due to its long wait and we didn’t want to stress our cat who has a heart condition in an unfamiliar environment for that long. So we called all veterinary hospitals in metro area and VVH was the only one that could take us within 2 hours. When we got to the clinic we could tell they’re very well-staffed even for weekend. We were not only thankful that they could take us in, but also the doctor and nurse were so gentle with our cat. It was in fact our first time seeing our cat yawn in a clinic. Dr. Cheung took the time to explain our cat’s issue and was so considerate with getting the right treatment plans for our senior cat. We’re truly grateful to have VVH for that awful weekend.

The vet techs and vets are great and offer excellent quality of care. I’ve spoken to several receptionists and each of them did their job but in a fairly cold manner.

I’d call about my dog bleeding because his toenail fell off and the receptionist would start confirming my dog’s vaccination history and schedule without so much as an “I’m sorry that’s happening, ” like lady if this is relevant please at least tell me how because I am stressed!

Dr. Amy is incredible! The vet tech Jenny as well. They are so welcoming and nurturing to our cats. Our cats are indoor cats who aren't great with new places and strangers, but Amy and Jenny showed them so much kindness and patience. You can really feel their love on animals and it puts our girls and us as pet owners at ease. Would absolutely recommend this Vet to our friends! I've been coming to this clinic for a few years and have never had a bad experience or an unfriendly staff member.

Just moved here and needed to take my dog in when he was not well. Had a great experience here with my dog, everyone was caring and clearly communicated the entire process. The treatment was well explained and I felt we were given great options on how to proceed. This will definitely be my regular vet going forward.

I used to love Vancouver Veterinary Hospital and took my dog for many years. However when I tried to book an appointment with the technician today to have my dog's anal glands expressed (something we did frequently in the past with our older dog) and they told me they only offer this service with a vet appointment, and I should take my dog to a groomer.

I explained that groomers are unregulated, and typically only offer external extractions, and that I couldn't afford a vet appointment potentially every 6 weeks just for this quick procedure. They offered no other solution so I'm off to find another vet!
08 August 2023 1:13
Incredibly rude. I phoned to see if they carried a cat food or not and they gave me a runaround, refusing to answer my question. They asked if I had a file with them, wanted personal information from me, and were more than unhelpful. I gave up on the conversation. They are not getting my money and I hope they don't get yours. (the cat food is Purina Essentials Senior Cat Food, canned)
30 July 2023 8:56
Arrive here 30 minutes before close, no vets so they can’t sell the medicine that you’re looking for, avoid this place like the plague!
07 June 2023 2:42
We greatly appreciate the care our new puppy has received from Vancouver Veterinary Hospital. We were so impressed by getting a follow up call from the veterinarian on a long weekend! Thank you to everyone at VVH!
16 May 2023 19:34
Our chihuahua had a tooth emergency that required extractions and the clinic took very good care of her. She recovered fast and is doing great. We felt confident and well informed throughout the process even though we’re far from home and this was our first time visiting the clinic. Thank you.
03 May 2023 16:44
Thank you to all the kind and gentle folks at Vancouver Veterinary Hospital. We have been clients here for over 20 years and we and our beloved pets have always received excellent, tender loving care. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Philip Wolfman and Jennifer who spent so much time working with our little Ecco. We miss her deeply, but know she received the very best care from you. Take good care until we see you again.
17 March 2023 5:06
Really fantastic staff and I found all the vets had a really nice way of working with my cat, making him feeling comfortable and letting him settle into the room and sniff instruments etc.felt like they cared and they weren't trying to just push us through asap.

To respond to the owner’s response below: first of all, I was talking about your attitude and the way you treated a customer of your business. It was disgusting how you being so cocky that morning, when I asked for help from you to explain something on the consent form. 2nd, when you and your business call yourself as animal advocate, you take the moral high ground to force ppl to do thing in your way, and that’s why being one day late from what a vet recommended is not acceptable by you, regardless someone has spent thousands of dollars and in the meantime suffering from a shocking news. You can list all the facts of my cat’s critical conditions, but it’s not your excuse to threat your customer. 3rd, you gave a background of the situation, including saying the vet had concern of my cat might have heart failure in Dec, to support your response. However, this is exactly the evidence to show the problem of your business. I have NEVER been told that the vet had such concern before the ultrasound. I wasn’t mentioned anything about heart failure in Dec. Your business has communication issue, giving the fact that we had different doctor almost every appointment, and that every time I called, either for follow up questions or appointments, I had to repeat the thing again and again, your staff didn’t know much about a client’s history or what needs to be done. I don’t feel being cared from a so called “animal advocate”. Last but not least, technician also needs to interact with ppl, some customer services and emotional intelligence workshops may be helpful to you. - on Feb 23

I have been taking my cat to this clinic over 10yrs and today I had the worse experience I ever had. The staff was so arrogant and didn’t bother to explain the form I need to fill out, until I told her that I don’t understand some medical terms. And I was forced to book an appointment by this staff, regardless I had emphasized that I need to see a doctor that I’ve talked to and can easily communicate with, even the appointment is only one day after the day she wants me to book, and her reason is that the doctor advised that I must bring my cat in that specific time. She just kept pushing. As a pet owner, I’m responsible for my pet’s health and I understand the risk. I hate being treated in this pushy and threatening way.
I wanna give negative if I could, 2stars only for the past experience and old staffs.
04 February 2023 17:25
Great vets, friendly staff, seems reasonable priced
My cat has asthma and they were able to fit me in the same day to get him checked out and treated
11 January 2023 10:55
I have been lucky to have almost exclusively good vet clinics in my long life of living with Cats with Issues and Vancouver Veterinary far and away has been the best. The team’s dedication and care for our cat is so clear and noted to the point that our cat doesn’t even mind the visit and she hates everything! I couldn’t recommend bringing your pet here more highly.
08 January 2023 6:59
I have nothing but praise for VVH. Dr. Kong and all of the other veterinarians have been so caring and knowledgeable. I feel lucky to have found this place.

December 9,2022

I can think of no other way to express my deep appreciation than through a review. Today I had to say goodbye to my cat, and the kindness and thoughtfulness of Drs. Kimberly Cruz and Irene Kong and the staff at VVH is priceless.
09 November 2022 0:58
Staff are so kind. They will even do our visit on the floor for my little dig, who is terrified of the treatment table.
08 November 2022 13:42
The only reason why this is not a zero rating is because there are a couple locum vets I like. However, I am shocked and livid that in one year they raised their rates for spay and neuter over $200 than the previous year (had another puppy spayed last summer). I felt I got cornered into agreeing for the surgery when I saw the estimate only on the date of, though I did question things at the time and was told it could change because it is an estimate. I already have PTSD due to an accident with my previous puppy, so I chose not to question much because it gets my PTSD going. In the end when I spoke to a vet tech about the large price difference they said they hadn’t raised their prices in years. There wasn’t even notification of prices increases and I’ve been going to them for over a couple years. I get a small increase but a large one? !? ! Do not go there if you want to be ripped off at the expense of a fur baby. I will be finding another vet clinic that treats their clients with more respect. (Sorry if staff turnover hasn’t helped much, but no need to be rude or short with clients).
24 October 2022 21:50
Caring staff, lovely place, and reasonable pricing. Best veterinary hospital I've been to in Vancouver. Thank you to everyone there for making my dog and I feel comfortable =)
10 September 2022 15:40
Have been here twice and won't return due to lack of communication. My initial bill was over $600 and there was no indication as we went along that it would be so much. I only found out at the POS. It was a shock. They didn't have most of the items that they said they had over the phone. Their medication prescription was wrong so we had to wait an extra day to pick up from pharmacy. They were apologetic so I decided to try one more time, and was given instructions over the phone to prepare my cat for some tests. I followed the instructions and dropped off my cat, but was called, after getting part way home, to pick up my cat because I had fed him that morning. The person who had called hadn't told me that. They said they thought I would just know. I wasted about $50 on taxis and time away from work. They didn't do anything to solve the problem. Too disorganized. I have switched to another vet.
07 September 2022 1:24
Both times we have visited the vet has been very compassionate, friendly and did everything in our dogs interest. Even though our dog isn't a fan of going to the vet, they did everything they could to calm him down and give the best treatment.
08 August 2022 19:14
I was very impressed with this veterinary hospital. The people were wonderful, very friendly and very knowledgeable. The doctor was so nice and took the time to go over everything with me. I didn't have to wait at all either, I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment and was put into a room right away with only a couple minutes wait before my cat was seen. I was also blown away by the cost, i expected the bill to be double what I paid. Very happy with the experience.
24 June 2022 14:47
I have reported them to the complaints board of College of Veterinarians of British Columbia because of our experiences here. I would never recommend them to a single pet owner.
26 May 2022 23:23
Like others have noted in past reviews, some of their front desk staff should have better training. We were told to come by to pickup our dogs prescription food. No mention of an hour lunch break. Drove in from New West only to find out they were closed. Wasted 2 hours of my day. When I called to raise the concern the next day, no apology was provided. Customer service is important for any business.
09 May 2022 6:15
Front desk staff needs to be retrained. Very unfriendly and can't seem to handle customers and gets flustered easily. Dr. Amy Cheung is very good with my dog though.
08 May 2022 3:30
We didn't wait more than 15 min on a Sunday morning around 10am. Everyone is nice but the doctor was in a rush, but I can't blame her, they charge you twice less than regular vet clinics for the exam. Thankfully they did not push any excessive exams/x-ray.
05 May 2022 7:01
Vancouver Veterinary Hospital does not deserve your loyalty because they do not make a long-term commitment to care for your beloved pet. Their wait time for an appointment used to be reasonable but lately it has been 6 to 8 weeks. Now that my cat has kidney disease and I cannot wait that long I had to find a new vet. As I searched for a new vet, I discovered that most other veterinary clinics either do not have extremely long waits or are limiting their intake of new clients.
03 May 2022 2:50
Nice service but their service can get quite expensive.they raise the price every year.also, ive noticed the quality of treatment is going down.i would not bring my animal here for anything more than a check-up now.
02 May 2022 20:40
My cats vet, Dr. Yu is excellent. The entire staff is very professional. I strongly recommend this vet clinic.
02 May 2022 17:24
Been with VVH for over 10yrs, IMO there’s no better group of vets and staff in Vancouver. When stressed about your sick furry babies, it is wonderful to work with others that make it easy to make the hard decisions. Thank you for the supportive and sweet culture you have clearly intentionally fostered there!
02 May 2022 11:12
Expensive, but worth it for our fur babies! The staff cares about their patients both two and four legged.
20 April 2022 8:00
We have been going to VVH since our dog was 6 months old. We do our annual checkup every year there. Now she is a beautiful 11 years old. We noticed a huge difference in the flow of the care since last year, especially at the front desk.

Pretty sure their workload has dramatically increased due to the pandemic puppies. So many old staffs left and new staffs came to the job, but the quality, accuracy and safety of the care shouldn't be compromised.

1) Wrong dose of med: We did the bloodwork, the vet said the dose of medication should be decreased, we agreed, but when we got home, we noticed the front desk clerk gave us the same dose as before.

2) Missed med: the vet said we would get eye antibiotic before the surgery. At the front desk, we were not given the antibiotic. We were the one who noticed it, and asked again for the missing med.

3) Long wait for bill: We saw the doctor for 30 mins, but we waited for the computer to generate the bill for another 30 mins at the front desk.

4) Wrong and mixed up of the appointment time: We were told to come the appointment on Monday at 15: 20. We arrived early but were told it was not booked. We then booked a Wednesday 15: 20 appointment. But on Tuesday, we got a text message, saying our appointment was on Wednesday 14: 00. We then had to phone to clarify and confirm the appointment was actually indeed on Wednesday 15: 20.

Truly hope for some improvement!:)

Efficient service, good staff and clean facilities. They are also very on top of communications which helps when inquiring about small things via email.
04 April 2022 8:53
I have brought my bunny, and kitten here. This veterinarian clinic is excellent
Edit: this place doesnt see bunnies anymore
05 March 2022 10:44
Years ago, I used to go to a different veterinarian. But despite the lower prices and bring open 24 hours, I felt that the staff were going through the motions. When we got a new puppy, I wanted better care for such an important part of the family. Dr Amy Chung is fantastic. You can tell she really loves animals and she makes you feel that she cares about your pet as much as you do. Highly recommended. Front staff are ok.
15 February 2022 14:49
Had an amazing experience taking our pets here for the first time! Dr. Cheung and staff were very professional, knowledgeable and definitely pet lovers at heart!
27 January 2022 9:01
Overall the staff is very nice and knowledgable and i feel like my dog is getting great care. Unfortunately the price transperancy is very poor and i feel robbed after every visit. My dog recently had minor surgery here and i called ahead to get a quote because i like to compare prices. The quote was $375, but when i arrived at the day of surgery the quote suddenly went up to 600-700$ and included several procedures like Urin and blood tests that i was not informed of beforehand. I really felt lured in by a low quote to then get hit with a higher bill once they have my buisiness, it is dishonest and deceiving. I would have most likely gone to another clinic if they would have gotten an honest quote in the beginning. I have the same experience with their general check-ups, where they are always trying to sell you extremely overpriced worm treatments etc.and i am sure they get away with that a lot because people want the best for their pets and just blindly follow all the doctors suggestions. These people offer good service and take good care of your dog, but they also surely try to milk you for money wherever they can, so be careful about that.

I booked an exam with this vet for my dog based on the good reviews from other patients, unfortunately I did not have a good experience with VVH, I won't be returning and do not recommend them.

I initially booked an appointment for my dog for a health concern and possible surgery. 1. I didn't find the receptionist overly friendly 2. The actual vet who saw my was fine, but since I booked at the end of their day (because I have a 9 to 5 job!) She seemed rushed and just wanted me out of the exam room.

Listen, if I am going to pay near 100 dollars just for a vet to look at my dog, you best believe I am going to stay there until all my questions are answered. We were there for less than 45 mins.

The service was basic, nothing outstanding but my real gripe happened when I went to get flea treatments for some kittens I had taken in.

I called ahead and asked if they could give kitten flea meds over the counter, the girl said yes! And sounded like she physically pulled a box off the shelf to read the label etc. I went in the next day and spoke to a woman, short blue hair, with a very stale attitude.

I hadn't taken the kittens there, and I told her this, numerous times she tried to look them up in the system and/or register them in the system. When I said they weren't my primary vet its like immediately they refused to work with me.

Blue hair girl, called the vet (the same one who saw my dog) and asked her to work out the dosage of flea meds for the kittiens I had based on age/weight. The vet seemed flustered and stressed and like I was being a nuisance by just being in their practice, asking for flea meds that, might I remind you, a lady on the phone already said could be provided over the counter.

I guess I was too much of a burden for the vet to do some simple maths or they suddenly realized that they could get an exam fee or two out of me just to get flea meds, before the vet completely abandoned what she was doing and they said they couldn't give flea meds over the counter anymore and I MUST book an appointment.

Thank you for wasting my time VVH, guess what I went to your competitor and got it over the counter no problem.

Id ask Ms. Blue Hair to adjust her attitude, and for the vet (also with blue tinted hair at the time) to not treat their paying customers like burdens. If somebody has a negative experience here, they will simply walk, and go to one of your many competitors.

I went to a different vet with outstanding customer service, great reviews for my dogs surgery and couldn't have been happier!

P.s woman with short blonde hair and glasses was very pleasant and dispensed my dog flea meds with no issues, I guess thats because I had already paid my 100 bucks previous for the vet to see him!
10 January 2022 22:15
Dr Chung is the best. If it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t bother coming here all the way from Richmond. She’s the most caring, compassion and just genuinely awesome person to ever grace this profession. That being said stop all using her, I can’t even get an appointment! Just kidding, Amy 4 the win.

They had some “aggro” front counter ladies before but I haven’t seen them lately. So all good now.
08 December 2021 23:07
I had a 6 week wait to get my dogs in for their initial appointment. They were in to have a vaccine booster and I mentioned that recently, one of my dogs has been obsessively licking her back paw and there is a growth between her toes which is becoming raw. I am IN THE EXAM ROOM and was told I will have to rebook a 40 min appointment to have them take a peek. They literally would not even pick up her paw and glance at it. I would have paid an examination fee no problem if that’s what they wanted. I expected to. Even if they had looked and said it will need further examination on another day. But to not even look or glance at her paw and send us on our way. Absolutely Unbelievable. We are back home now and she’s continuing to lick her paw. Zero genuine concern for your pets welfare. This could be a big issue that maybe could have been caught early, luckily another vet now has us booked in for next week. I do not recommend taking the pets you care about to this establishment. They’re better served with a vet that cares.
04 October 2021 17:11
Please if you ever take your pet to this clinic do not see Dr. Amy Cheung. She is very nice but has no knowledge at all. She refused to do X-ray, medication for my poor dog and she kept telling me he wont die dont worry but you know what he died in my arms and she called me the next morning telling me wow that happened so fast. My dog was only 8 years old. I begged her for medication and X-ray of his heart murmur situation. If you love your pet do not see her. There are so many amazing other vets.
28 September 2021 22:33
We had a very bad experience with Dr. Gutierrez and the staff. They treated my wife completely differently than me, very condescending. They never followed up after agreeing to call us with results. Every step was pulling teeth with them, except when they wanted to add extra fees and charges. We had a fine experience with Dr. Yu, but the rest of the staff caused us to switch. Our new vet is about 30% cheaper with twice the service and empathy. Please be cautious here.
20 September 2021 19:30
I have been going to this vet for a few years (spending lots of $ for various tests and procedures for a senior dog) and recently had to euthanize my dog. For regular appointments there is ALWAYS a lengthy wait.sometimes several weeks. When I called to request guidance re putting my pet down I was told by front desk that the vet was too busy to even return a telephone call for at least 4 days and there would be no one available for at least a week for euthanasia. I ended up going to the Emergency clinic at 7th and Alberta and they were fantastic. I called ahead and they spent quite bit of time on the phone and when I went there they were all very supportive.professional and compassionate. The vet I seen at Vancouver Vet was fine but there is definately a tendency for the office to book too many clients and you get the sense they are more focused on bringing in as much $ as possible instead of trying to establish a relationship with the clients. Just another comment. I have a friend who is a vet in another city and was appalled at the vet/clinic response the day my dog passed.
16 September 2021 0:33
Extremely upsetting for the lack of care and empathy towards my pupper! It doesn't mean anything to be a loyal valuable client these days unfortunately.
18 August 2021 13:20
They were able to get my poor kitty, Toulouse, in pretty much as soon as we got there and the doctor was incredibly gentle but very thorough. I was initially pretty nervous about the whole visit just because of how Toulouse always has to be by my side or else she gets pretty anxious, so the whole visit had a happy ending and Toulouse was feeling back to herself later that evening! We have decided to make this her home veterinary clinic.oh and it's also 24 hours AND a emergency walk in! I mean, come on!
13 August 2021 15:32
I have an appointment for my cats in August so have not experienced it yet. Although the man in the phone was very friendly, informative and helpful. I do know their prices are in line with those of the veterinary association of BC. I will review again once experienced! And I will make sure my cats have input!
27 July 2021 12:11
Have taken all three of my pets to VVH and have always had kind professional and knowledgeable staff. From reception to the actual vet interactions, all have been good.
20 July 2021 20:33
I brought my 8 years old cat to see Dr. David Gutierrez Torres because she was licking her stomach until there wasn't any hair left. She was definitely in pain. Dr. David Gutierrez Torres made me pay for tests and ruled it as “allergies". So we started her on medication for allergies. I REGRET GOING TO THIS CLINIC. Thank god I brought my cat to another clinic because Dr. Torres misdiagnosed my cat. My cat had cancer.
18 November 2020 20:37
Staff very friendly and the vets are knowledgeable. Gave us lots of information for our puppy, we have chosen it as our vet.
24 October 2020 6:40
A team of the most kind and patient people. I've been taking my pet here for years and will continue to do so.
20 October 2020 5:36
Waited in the exam room for 45 min for the Vet to come in. I wasn't a walk in I had an appt. He also kept trying to upsell me on tests we don't want and told him a dozen times I didn't want.
26 April 2020 11:59
Had to visit late at night to check up on our cat. The staff and vet were friendly and honest. The only thing I’d say would be to clean the floor w bit more since I noticed quite a bit of fur in the corner spots
25 April 2020 18:51
Excellent doctors and great front of house staff. Definitely the most comfortable I've been taking my nervous dog to a vet. Very conscientious across the board.
16 April 2020 10:34
Cares more about making money than animal health. I recently moved and had to find a new vet (not this vet, because they had no appointments available) for our cat. We got her vaccinated at the new vet on the weekend and it seems like she developed an reaction to it that made her lose patches of hair. In distress, I called the new vet but they weren't open and weren't answering their phones, so I called around to Vancouver Veterinary Hospital to see if they can help me. I described my situation and asked if they can tell me if this is normal or if it needs to be looked at. The receptionist automatically told me there were no appointment times available, didn't offer any alternatives or any help at all. Before I moved homes, my previous vet was always super helpful over the phone, even if it wasn't their patient, they'd at least try to help or diagnose it over the phone, or say that they are full today but to try these other options. Vancouver Veterinary Hospital did none of that, just shut me down by saying they had no appointments available.
14 April 2020 13:27
I have been coming here for years but pretty disappointed being turned away because I was 5 minutes late and then waiting in line for another 5 minutes.
10 April 2020 4:26
I've had many vets in the city and Vancouver Veterinary Hospital is by far my favourite. They've taken such good care of my furbabies that I always send people their way and have never had a complaint. Dr. Longridge is a national treasure. They saw my girl Luna through her entire life and were especially graceful and sensitive to me and to her at the end of her life. You want a compassionate vet? Go to Vancouver Veterinary Hospital on Kingsway.
19 March 2020 7:51
Very disapointed with this hospital. I have had my pet operated 3 times by them for the same urinary issue (spent a fortune) and was told by them that my cat would be on prescription food for the rest of his life. One of the clinic I am buying food requested a prescription for the food and asked the Vancouver Veterinary Hospital to have a prescription sent to the clinic so I can purchase food from them. They declined saying they need to see my pet in order for them to send a prescription - money grab.no thank you.
13 March 2020 2:25
First of all, all the staff at VVH are the very best I have ever experienced in all my years with animals.

This review however is specifically regarding Dr. Cheung. Dr. Cheung has always given my pup the very best treatment, and not just professionally, but also emotionally. I recently had to put my poor pup down, and she was right there to help with the most compassionate, professional actions. For me, there is none better. Thank you Dr. Cheung.
21 February 2020 8:49
A warm and caring clinic. The Techs are considerate, knowledgeable animal lovers and the vets have excellent bedside manner. I have been coming here since 2008 and I highly recommend.
19 February 2020 11:01
All the staff seem to love their jobs which makes me feel like my dog will be looked at with care whenever I go. Staff are super friendly as well.
07 February 2020 8:42
Had to revise my five star after dealing with different staff members.
Amy and William are wonderful.

The front staff is really hit or miss though. Some are quite rude. Some of the other veterinarians seem a bit careless.
28 January 2020 4:11
Extremely professional, courteous and do good work. I have complete trust in their rates and putting my fur babies in their care.
