VCA Canada Cats Only Animal Hospital

I booked an appointment with my cat who needed sedation for their appointment. I booked off work, brought in my cat, only to be informed the appointment had not been properly booked and they forgot about the sedation they had recommended (?). I wasn’t compensated and had to return another day.

When I went in more recently I overheard a similar experience happening to another client. The organization of the front desk is not up to standard.

Cats are finnicky and can sometimes require more adjustments. I think I'm surprised this clinic is so rigid with its schedule and way of doing things. It's disappointing to find out I can't even bring my cat in an hour later if he's feeling more okay with it, because it "makes everything fall behind". I think cat owners all understand that cats require more flexibility and I don't think owners would be angry if a cat scheduled for the day needs a slight arrangement change.

It's understandable that there aren't enough vets but other clinics seem to be a bit more understanding, I was just hoping to get my cat on the regular exam schedule here for check-ups. Unfortunately, I personally need a place that is flexible and accommodating. I'm really hoping something changes here because I really respect what the staff and vets here are doing for our animals!

While some of the vet techs at this location are lovely, this is the worst VCA vet I have ever been to. I have been dealing with this vet for about a year, at first the service was standard, with only up-charging being a concern for me, however, over the last month and a half it is clear that this office is severely lacking in professionalism, and compassion.
- All results from tests are given over the phone, some of which are done during after hours. Vets will not disclose a fulsome care plan, rather adds more costs with no extra information unless you ask. Even then, it is rare to get consistency in answers from staff.
- Written correspondence is rarely shared, but when it is, it is unclear from whom
- Cases are shared across the entire office, so continuous care is non-existent and things often slip through the cracks. You will not recieve results or calls when they say you will, and you WILL have to follow up.
- When I told Dr. Larissa that I would not be able to afford the $3000 consultation she reccomended she responded "thats too bad, your cat risks having a clot that could kill him instantaneously, I actually saw it happen last week it was so sad" Which I found to be insensitive and manipulative.
- Despite it being a 'cats only' clinic, the office manager often brings dogs into the office to stay with her, which I found to be quite bizarre.

Overall, would not recommend. Not trustworthy, standard of care is quite low, and a very uncomfortable, disheartening and EXPENSIVE experience.

Had my first appointment today and absolutely loved them. They let me comfort my cats while they got blood drawn and did a thorough exam, had lots of great knowledge. Made me feel comfortable, listened to and felt that my cats were being taken care of gently and wholly.

Everyone is always so kind, knowledgeable and compassionate. Could not ask for a better team of people to trust with our cat's care

Caring staff and good availability for visits. Took great care in clipping our cat's nails. Pet supplies as well.

Best staff I've ever experienced. They all listen and took care of every one of my concerns as well as loved my cat I brought it.

Excellent place to take your pet kitty. They aren't like other vets that seem clinical and in it for the money. A thorough check up was done and they made Miss Pickles (cat) feel calm. Prices are relatively decent. They also have a kitty hotel if you decided to go on vacation which offers a few different options as well. Thumbs up!

Great place.as this was the ONLY vet clinic in the lower mainland that ALLOWS you to go in WITH your kitty, and stay during the exam/ visit. Only drawback is that this clinic is VERY EXPENSIVE. Even just to walk in the door, its over $80. BUT they are thorough, kind, very gentle with kitty, patient, & answer ALL my questions. Worth it.

This is the only animal hospital I take my cat to. They are upfront about what tests need to be done and what costs will look like, even if you have insurance. They are honest and so caring, both of the animals and their humans! It’s worth the slightly higher pricing.

Don’t take your cat to anywhere else but here.been to numerous vets and my cat is very anxiously aggressive but the vets here handle her so well.she doesn’t get as anxious ever since we started coming here.

Cats Only provides specialized care for your animals. The vets and vet techs are very informative treat the animals with great care.

Dr. Hunt was really great with my kitty and provided some extremely realistic options for treatment. I appreciated the honesty and kind service, wish he was still there!

The vet was extremely knowledgeable and helpful answering all my questions regarding my cat. Also she was very careful handling my cat and never forced the cat at all.

We had to take our Persian princess (Aghie) for her first ultrasound in Canada. At first we were very uncomfortable BUT then Paula Mendoza (VCA Cats Only) was there and took care of Aghie in such a loving way that it brought us complete confidence. Paula is not only an excellent professional, but also an example of a human being. All our respect and gratitude to Paula.

Love this team! Very clear information and breakdown of services with costs. They treat your kitties like their own.

Dr. Koh is the best! My cat took to her immediately the first time she met her. I was so pleased as my cat was a shy lil thing and wary of strangers. Dr. Koh's gentleness, kindness and obvious love of cats immediately won my fussy girl over. Dr. Koh saw my baby through some difficult health declines and was kind, patient, thoughtful and thorough. My sweet cat has passed since, but I'm still so thankful for the care we received while we had her. We're going to be bringing our new sweet kitty here to see Dr. Koh.

I'm sure they are very knowledgeable, but the fees are insane. I wasn't even give an outline of how much money I would be spending on my last visit - which they do typically do. I have had people warn me that I am being robbed if I visit any VCA Animal Hospital. A normal person cannot afford all the costs. They state that, "Our examination fees help ensure our team can provide the best care possible for our patients as well as an exceptional experience for our clients. " Yet I recently discovered that Mars Inc, owns the VCA Hospitals. The same people that make Snickers, Mars Bars, Milky Way, Twix, M&M's also dabble in Pet Care. I highly doubt a big corporation like that cares about experience and cares more about profit. Please reevaluate your costs so people can get the care they need for their animals. Or please make it more accessible for everyone. Animals are like family members.

The VCA Cats Only animal hospital is absolutely wonderful in every possible way. The staff are kind, loving towards their kitty patients and those kitties’ human parents, and incredibly professional. They don’t try to up-sell you on services, but rather look out for the best interests of the cats at all times; sometimes it’s the most expensive option and sometimes it’s not, but they are always open and honest. Most recently, they provided urgent care to one of my cats this week when he was quite ill, and their intervention saved his life. Both Dr Ko and Dr Ozeki are gems, and every member of the clinic staff contributes to the comfortable and positive atmosphere there. If you have a cat, your first choice of vet should always be the VCA Cats Only hospital. You will be doing right by your beloved kitty.

I’ve been taking my cat to Cats Only since I first moved to Vancouver in 2009! They have always shown the utmost care and are never too busy to answer all of my questions. They always let you know how much something will cost and what your options are for treatment. I wouldn’t trust any other vet with care of my kitty. I’ve also boarded my cat for short and long stays in the boarding facility and appreciate the regular updates! With cats only your cats are in good and caring hands?

My kitties have been going to VCA Cats Only for 5 years. The staff calmed my scaredy-cat and helped us make the visits less stressful. The tech team were patient and showed my kitties love and comfort. Hiding was ok. Dr. Larissa and Dr. Kevin discussed the current plan, why it was advised and steps to complete it. They let me decide what we would do at each visit. I have always felt supported by the entire team at Cats Only.

I just want to thank everyone at cats only for your love and support over the years for my furry family. Dr. Ozeki especially gave my mom and I time together with our beloved Cookie who unfortunately got a aggressive cancer and had to be put down early in the year. They are all a wonderful and caring place. I know that there is a lot of people out there who are unhappy with prices and services they are given but the quality of care Is most important to me. Sure I cannot afford a lot but I would rather have these staff work on my pets because I know first hand that they would do there absolute best and would treat my pets as one of their own. They are very dedicated to what they do and they hold themselves at a higher standard than any place I have been to in Vancouver. I highly recommend this place to anyone with a kitty. A lot of clinics out there do not know how to handle cats and they usually dont do it right. Cats only are fear free and handle cats every day from exotic to domestic breeds. They use treats, food and towels for their exams, they do not scruff or pin down cats. And we all know that some cats are not easy to handle and so they try anti anxiety medications first and everything else first before sedation is even mentioned. They are not out to get money from you, they do not upsell things to you to get more out of it. Tests cost money just like everything else. You need to look at what they provide instead of the dollar amount. Ask them questions and share your concerns. They will answer you without judgment. They will work with you and not against you. I trust them with my families life and you should too. Go see them and you will see how down to earth this place really is.

I can't say enough good things about my (and my kitties) experience at Cats Only.

The reception staff are so friendly and welcoming. The assistant and vet tech that took care of my cats were so thorough and walked us through every aspect of the visit. Both of my cats are quite nervous at the vet but they updated me with photos and they seemed very comfortable there.

Dr. Ko was so sweet on the phone and it's very obvious how much she loves her job and cares for her patients. She provided me with a clear treatment plan and made sure all my questions were answered.

The staff here are amazing! They are patient and answer all questions you may have and thoroughly explain everything in a simple and easy to understand manor! Very happy with the service they provide as a team. Doctors to technicians to front end staff, they all are professional and incredibly kind!

I’ve just moved to Vancouver and am so happy I came across Cats Only! They take such good care of my 4 year old beautiful calico Mittens.
The client care team are very friendly and super helpful, the technicians and veterinarians take time with explaining to make things clear and understandable.
Most importantly I feel like my girl is really taken care of and loved when we visit, she was even snuggling up to one of the team members during her vaccines.
You can really tell the team cares and loves cats!

We had a great experience with the VCA for my cat’s dental surgery. Dr Ko was great in navigating hiccups due to unexpected kitty asthma situation when he first went under anaesthesia and didn’t respond well. They did a second try and in the end it was a successful canine removal and Dr Ozeki made sure my cat could handle the anesthesia well. Dr Hunt did a few of the post surgery re-checks.great caring crew overall.

Great clinic, fantastic vets and assistants. We get all our non-emergency visits here, Dr Ozeki is our favorite vet! ALL of their staff is so kind, and they clearly discuss all options for treatment, from basic health, to dental and diet, through end-of-life care that considers quality of life and knowing when it's time. They always check in on our cats after visits that need actual treatment, even on the weekends, and respond to calls asking advice within the same day (and advise to go to emergency vets if it is too urgent to wait). Highly recommended!

Dr Kevin saved our cat’s life, if we hadn’t followed our instincts and gone to him for a second opinion, we would have lost him last spring - but he’s still here going strong! Dr Kevin is empathetic, patient and caring - so glad we found him and especially grateful that Ben has him! Highly recommend.

Had a really great experience here. Totally recommended. The Doctor Kevin and assistant Sophia were very caring and made the experience very nice for my cat and I.

All the staffs were very friendly and knowledgeable about the cats. They greeted my kitten very friendly and politely so that my kitten will not be in fear. The staffs gave an amazing "first time experience" for my kitten. The vetenerian and the assistant vetenerian were very professional making sure that I knew exactly what to watch out for and how to take care of my kitten. Highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for vetenerian.

VCA Cats Only is an amazing veterinary hospital. My cat is 16 years old and in March he started to get sick. All the veterinarians and staffs are fantastic. They always answer my questions right away, even though in the weekends.
I don’t have words to describe how much Dr. Larissa Ozeki is special to us. She always help me when my cat gets worse. The attention that she always have with me, comfort me in the moments that I need. She is more than a veterinarian, she is our friend.

Very friendly to us and our cat. Our cat quickly calmed down with the staff and actually started cuddling and purring which was surprising considering she was so nervous coming in.

Really friendly vets. They were very helpful with our cat and weren't too pushy when it came to deciding what treatments to get.

They were helpful all I spoke to or went to were way to expensive considering there was nothing wrong with my cat. He just produces extra sleep in his eye that information was 2,20 dollars

I really like the care I get from Dr. Ko. She cares so much about cats and is very easy to talk to. I have been taking my cat to her since she was a kitten 9 years ago.

A long overdue thank you to Dr. Ko and the entire staff at Cats Only Vet Hospital for how they treat there clients and pets. We have been going here for years and please disregard what people say about the high prices. They work with you and prioritize the importance on what needs to be done, and trust me, they are very respectable about it if financials are tight, especially around this time. They treated our Mila and Blu with the upmost love and care like they were there own. When our Mila had passed away a few week ago, we could think of no one else to preparing her Urn and memory then Cats Only Hospital via Until We Meet Again (another highly reccomend place if your pet had passed). We just got home from bringing our baby Blu to Cats only for her shots and a checkup, and they were so Kind. A very special thank you to Dr. KO, Amanda, and please forgive me if I say her name wrong - Emeyal (curly hair). See you all in 4 weeks for Blus Booster shots!

I took my cat Midnight to Cats Only consistently for the last 6 or so years of his life. The care I’ve gotten, especially from Dr Ko and Dr Larissa was incredibly warm, personal and professional. It is at a level well above and beyond any other vet I’ve used in the city.

Midnight had a great many problems over the years and they really made me feel he was well cared for. The entire staff at Cats Only was super kind and personable.

They always offered me options for care and never made me feel pressured.

I would never take my cat to any other vet.

The management even helped with some issues that further proved they appreciated my patronage, on more than one occasion.

Sadly at 18.5 years old I had to put Midnight down last week.

Dr Ko made the experience incredibly humane and dignified. I’m so glad I took him to her for his last breath.

Today I got a condolence card signed by everyone at the clinic and it really warmed my heart.

They provide lots of research on options for when your pet is sick. I have never felt price gouged with any of my visits for my senior cat.

I've been to a number of vet clinics in Vancouver and after going to Cats Only, I will never go to another. Dr Kevin, Dr Ko, and Dr Larissa are all incredibly talented, thoughtful, thorough and empathetic veterinarians. They all answer all my questions, call me when i have any concerns and never rush me when I am asking questions. All the vet techs are equally as wonderful, making sure my cats are comfortable and happy. I trust them fully with my pets care. I recommend their services to everyone.

My wife and I could not be happier with Doctor Kevin and his staff. This is the only place to bring your cat and the team is beyond kind and helpful.

They have helped us through so much with our cat over the past couple months and my only regret is not bringing my cat here earlier.

If you want the best care for your cat, this is the place!
I could write for hours, but these folks gave me 2 and a half years with my cat when I should have had perhaps less than a year.

This is BY FAR the best Vet available for cats in Vancouver. The service and attention to detail with customers and with our dear cats is outstanding.

Just switched vets recently and couldn’t be happier! Dexter can be very feisty and hates going to the vet. The vet and the techs here handled him so well. It was such a breeze and probably not as traumatic as it usually is for him. Highly recommend!

Specialized cat food was very expensive. About $10 more than at other vet hospitals Like Surrey Heights or Burnaby.

This clinic is by far the most professional best one I have ever been to. Dr. Hunt took the time to listen to me and explain things to me. He did a full and thorough exam of my cat. He was not rushed at all and this was even with a free first exam for new patients. And hes really cute too! I will definitely be going here from now on. I only wish they saw dogs also. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!

I am a first time pet owner. Visited VCA after I got my two kitties. This place is full of amazing people who are loving all cats and are super patient and professional. Dr. Ko is our favoriiiiiite. Our kitties hate being in the cage but they love VCA thank you Team. Gin and Tonic love you all!

We've had such good experiences here every visit. Everyone here is caring, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. Couldn't recommend it more!

I met with Dr. Kevin and he was amazing! Very kind and patient with my two special needs kitties. He didn't make me feel guilty about the choices I made regarding medications. I said I couldn't give the two times a day inhaler dosages to my cat and that she started to hide from me. He agreed that quality of life is important and that it was okay to not stress her out with the inhaler. My other kitty needs to have his teeth cleaned and have at least one tooth extracted. Someone came in to talk with me about setting up a monthly payment plan without me even having to ask! This is a game changer! Such a great experience.

Would never go back here again and will be moving vets. They try to upsell you with every possible thing they can find instead of getting to the root of the problem. They are not helpful and are visibly just in it for the money. After developing a "treatment plan" with the vet for our cat, another person came back into the check-up room with a bill consisting of multiple other things that we had never spoken about. The vet did not come and explain why these things were put on the bill and this happened multiple times. Stay away and find someone that actually cares about your cat instead of meeting a quota.

Nice staff, nice facility but when it comes time to actually need them for your cat because its sick they wont make any room if there booked up for the next 2 weeks. Just an idea but how about you make a sick cat a priority over a regular check up, or a nail clipping appointment. Those appointments should step aside.

Staff and facilities are excellent. Amanda is awesome! They are expensive but piece of mind to me is worth it. So far so good.

I cannot thank the staff here enough, such a lovely atmosphere, and everyone is so kind. I'm so glad that my cat has Dr. Ozeki to care for him and although he isn't keen on the journey, he loves the attention he gets during his appointments. Transparent billing, with cost estimate and options, being provided upfront, before any treatments/procedures decided upon. Thank you!
