Been getting my hair done there for almost 10 years. The instructors are very experienced and the prices are more than reasonable. You do have to allow for more time than a typical appointment for hair services, but it's great overall.

Haircut has always taken a couple hours. Used as an example for instructors to demonstrate a cut on. If you get a student you prefer know you can request them next time. Please remember to tip and have patience. Schedule more time than they suggest. Don't hesitate to speak up if you're unhappy. You can even reschedule for an instructor to go over concerns.

The students are really kind and attentive. They take a lot of care to make sure they arent making any mistakes. The downside to this is my haircut took 3 hours and 15 minutes. I knew it might take a little longer, but I wasn't really prepared for that. I also wanted something a bit more specific, and that wasn't really achieved. The haircutting technique was good. It was just more of a standard haircut than I was looking for.

I think it's a good value if you have time since it's $10, and it's probably better for more standard styles.

I had such a great experience here. I got my hair cut with Joy. I was going for just a roughly one inch trim off my curly, frizzy, balding hair.

The facility itself is large and nice and clean. They have some couches out front where you can wait after you check in at the front desk. I was shocked by how great the bathrooms are. A lot better than UBC, and totally clean. They even had a novel kind of hand dryer built into the sinks. Musically, old school soul music was playing, which I loved. The Spinners beats hearing some atrocious modern pop song.

I got my hair shampooed with a blissful scalp massage. The actual haircut was supervised by an instructor who walked through the plan to cut my hair with the stylist. The instructor would pop by occasionally and answer any questions from my stylist.

It takes students longer than a career stylist to cut your hair, I think that goes without saying, and the more complex your cut, the longer its gonna take. You have to be patient to sit through this. I've always had a respect for hairdressers as it's a job where you can't hide your mistakes, and it could take a long time for the hair to regrow if you mess it up badly enough. The pro here is that you don't have to pay very much. I did tip, which apparently some people don't.

Overall I was satisfied with my cut and I would recommend it to anyone who is both patient and frugal, especially for a simpler cut.

Went for a platinum white blonde full head of foils and a cut. Was VERY happy with the results! Students worked so hard and were so pleasant, often there are 2 or more working on you at once. It takes a little longer than a regular salon but they are really efficient and work hard to give you exactly what you are looking for. Front desk staff were so polite and even offered discounts. The price you just beat it’s so inexpensive and so worth it. The students consult with the instructors throughout the process and there is a wide variety of treatments available and great products. I will definitely be back it was a great experience and I am SO happy with my hair

The student stylists and instructor stylists put a lot of thought into my hair. Well executed hair cut. Very happy with it + great price + and we had no issue with appointments.:)

I’ve been here a few times for color touch ups. Satisfied in the past. Yes it takes longer, they’re students. I don’t usually mind. I can do work on my phone. 2 days ago, I decided to add some color highlights (foils) to my dark hair. It took about 4/4+ hours. Guess because it went over into the lunch hour they didn’t check the student’s work. Noticed that night that the color was not applied to the very top of the hair strands. It’s a yellow looking, and my color was turquoise. I’m 5ft tall, it’s quite obvious from on top. Found time to return 2 days later at 11am. Told the supervising staff of the issue and asked for them to make it right. I was assured they would do that, but to return after lunch at 1: 30pm, 2.5 hours later. I hung around and reported back to the desk by 1pm, was reassured they were aware of me and the situation. Gave my name and number. Proceeded to see everyone called in one by one including several walk ins. By 2: 15 and I was the only one left I went to the desk. It was a different person, they said they didn’t know, no slip was written up. Then after checking, there was no student stylist, and after consulting me, no hair dye left for my color. Sorry, too bad. Rebooked for next week, after waiting nearly 3.5 hours and reminded that walk ins were not guaranteed when I expressed my concern how I was not followed up on. Course they took the other 3 -4 walk ins while I was sitting waiting. Feeling like unless you need to save a few dollars and spend your day here there’s not much emphasis on customer service or professional service and follow up.

It.takes a bit longer than outside salons but these are students. Their instructors are there to supervise and to address any concerns. The massage was very good by Mandeep. She checked in with me about massage pressure I would prefer and she did a great job.

Horrible experience! I made appointments here twice and both times they cancel it a day before. They don't realize how much time and effort customer put to go there early in the morning and they tell you, your appointment was canceled as students didn't show up. As a casual worker, I hold on to my shifts for the particular day of appointment and then they tell you sorry, we have nobody to provide you service today. On a side note, I waited for almost two months for my appointment and still they canceled it. They aren't professionals at all. Absolutely horrible. Please stay away!

It's not worth your money and time. I was there the whole day 9-4: 30 and my back was killing me. The hair color was not achieved, maybe because of the product and the ratio of the mixture. The hairstyle was bot achieved even if there was a picture shown to the instructor (and student). The students were not professional, talking in their language not.minding the people around them they talk as if they were gossiping (whispering). I understand that when they work they will with their own people amd will serve their own people. But pls, while you are with people that do not speak your language, speak the universal language. The student was very nosy with other's client. Did not focus on her client that's why it took a looong time for her to finish. They took my Saturday away! If you like the real value for your money, go to the real salon. The clients help the student to learn and practice but still they charge a lot of money. Just saying. If you want to prove me wrong go there and have a taste of the ordeal.

I had my hair streaked by a wonderful student, Konan. He matched up my streaks I had done in Italy. The school is professional, the instructors are always around. I was a bit leary going in. I had a few years back, gone to Blanche McDonald' and came out with literally green hair. This was due to much bleaching The instructor getting her hair done by other students. Instead of watching her students. Thank you so much. Konan you will go far

What an amazing experience at the VCC salon! The students are very lucky as they have a wonderful instructor who provides them with exceptional knowledge, experience and guidance. I went there for the first time this month and my hair is quite difficult to work with. The students gave me an ombre and it turned out so well! I will definitely be returning. Thank you!

The prices are great and the students have to get their work checked by teachers so quality is pretty good.

I went to this program in 2015 for College. If you want a good student make sure to ask how many months they have been in the program (9 month program 2nd month they start practicing on clients)

Always had good experiences here; actually, I had one pretty bad one but they handled it so well I almost forgot. Kudos b/c the good definitely really outweighed the bad!

The customized facial was on special for July for $25 so I had booked it in. The student that did my facial (Cecilia) was great - 5/5 stars for her. She was gentle with my skin, advised me that my skin was dehydrated and also, performed extractions on my nose. Overall, it was a great experience.

The one star deduction was for the individual who had answered the phone. The receptionist was extremely condescending and snappy - I was inquiring about how long I should expect to be there for because I need to pay for parking and instead of listening to my question first, she had jumped to conclusions thinking that I had asked her about free parking.

Although all student work for you they try to be professional workers also, just pay 1/2 price of commercial salon and pedicure. Good service.

Very slow. I just wanted an inch off and it took 2 hrs because they have to check with their instructor if it is right or not. And the lady was on Semester 3 btw.

Although I have been going to VCC for years, I feel that their services have become more and more hit or miss. For example, I recently had a leg wax to take advantage of the monthly special. The technician was superb. She did a fantastic job and the experience was very soothing. On the other hand, I had a manicure/pedicure the week before which was very substandard. The male technician had a very drippy nose which he kept wiping with his hand and then used same hand to do the manicure. He did not seem to understand the length and shape of the nail I was looking for, did not push back or trim my cuticles, the water soak was cold, and there was no hand/arm massage with lotion even though this is advertised as such. I am also mystified at how little VCC seems to care about basic customer service. The attitude by the manager and front staff baffles me. They never ask the customer if everything was all right and I witnessed the manager being rude to a gentleman waiting in the lobby outside. I guess he was an inconvenience and maybe did not actually have an appointment, but, when these students graduate where will they learn customer service skills?

Today I called VCC salon for reservation and I talked with Lucy VCC student, i think she isn’t suitable to deal with customers. Of course she is student, but VCC salon is one of the salon, so students have to be practiced. Nevertheless, She wasn’t. She did a numbers on me, i felt very bad as well. Plz plz plz to be polite.

I’m shocked by how rude and the attitude the student had upon entering the treatment room. The student who was going to do my facial had zero skill or tack handling me as a customer. When it was clear that it was too uncomfortable for me and I didn’t want her touching my face I asked if I can speak to an instructor to get another student. The student opened the door and yelled to the instructor who was standing with a group of students, “She’s got a bad attitude”.
The instructor had to tell the student to be quiet because she wouldn’t stop then brought me to the front lobby.
A manager came out and basically said to me it really isn’t their problem that she was rude to me because the students come first and the client second. I suggested if the students come first then the school really needs to teach the students the fundamentals of treating their clients with respect and kindness, something that does not seem in place at all.
I woke up early on my day off to make it for a 9am appointment, spent 10 dollars on parking, to be met with rudeness and a manger saying, “not our problem”. Major thumbs down on customer service, basic decency or respect. Very disappointed.

I had a cheap back neck and shoulder massage and loved it. I see a RMT almost weekly and I think I had a better massage here. I will absolutely return.

VCC salon I gave two stars reason is last time I was there first I have to say I know students there are just learning to cut hair but if it's the first or second time cutting you would think the teacher would stay by them and over look the person cutting your hair to catch a mistake before it goes to far needless to say in my case when she was finished they didn't charge me for the cut and I had to where a hat for a couple of months so it a flip of the situation when you go there for a cut?

THE RUDEST AND LOUSIEST EXPERIENCE EVER IN THEIR HAIR SALON. The students are TOO beginners; they can't cut the hair at all by themselves. And their instructor, Sherry, is not only a racist but also incompetent.
I'm still hard to understand how she can act like that to customers. She was so rude from the first moment and treated me as if I'm a small kid. While she was trimming, she pushed my head roughly. I'm sure that her attitude is based on racism. She kept blocking my words arrogantly, and she didn't even listen to my explanation about the style I wanted. I showed her some photos and when I found that my hair was quite different from the photos, I tried to correct it. However she refused and said: "you are wrong and you know nothing. "
After an exhausting arguing, she finally said she would follow my request. But she recklessly cut a lot of hair only in a few seconds as if she was trying to humiliate me. I was so humiliated, and I lost my words.
Don't even think about visiting there if you are a person of color. I spent 4 hours getting my haircut, and both of their skill and manner are worse than trash.

I suggest taking at least 3 pictures of the kind of haircut/color you want. It will help a lot. It's helpful to get to know a student for services, but requests aren't guaranteed. Spa uses very high end products and haircolor/back bar products are also high end. Great bang for your buck- patience and kindness are key to building positive rapport.

Great prices and the students and instructors do a great job for any hair treatment one may need.

Pretty good place. However some of the hair salon students seem not very confident when dealing with clients.
