Velo Star Cafe

A great little neighbourhood café with good quality coffee and baking. I haven't brought my bike in yet, but have heard good things.

Fantastic place. As a big connoisseur of hot chocolate, theirs is possibly the best i've ever had, even including little marshmallows in it. The people there are awesome and the treats there are delicious, but the hot chocolate is probably the best part.

Perfectly cute little neighbourhood coffee shop and bike shop. Wonderfully diverse selection of treats and baked goods. Fairly priced. Sent a critique in the past and they were quick to respond and address all concerns. Staff are all warm, welcoming and friendly. Definitely recommend and certainly worth the trip.

Grilled cheese was very yummy same with hot chocolate. The customer service was very good, they made it fast and it was perfect

A beautiful café with so many services! The customer service is fantastic. And you can tell that all the baked goods are homemade, and when I visited a young girl took my order and she seemed to be only around 12-13 she did a amazing job with my order! 5 stars definitely recommend.

Cannot recommend, they installed a motor wrong, blamed the motor and me, cost me a lot of money and stress. The motor broke twice because it was installed incorrectly by velostar. Once that was fixed (by ebikes bc, where we bought the motor) we were finally able to ride the bike, only to find that the chain installed by velostar snapped after 30 minutes of riding. The chain velostar installed was much too short and that's why it snapped. Had to have that replaced also by another bike shop. Velo star gave us some money back but we had to spend far above what they refunded us to fix the errors on the bike. I have no reason to dislike them personally in fact they seem like a nice place to have coffee and maybe a good place to get a regular bike repaired but I wanted to let people know our experiences since I see a lot of referrals to this store for cargo and ebikes.

4 only because we only had coffee no bike repair. If they're as good at repairing as their hot chocolate then 5 stars for sure. Hole in the wall, litterally, best hot chocolate and coffee's good too. Worth the stop on a walk around the neighborhood.

They're the best, great bike service AND the nicest little cafe. They make delicious gluten free sandwiches 12/10 would recommend

What a marvelous little place! So friendly, unique, lovely coffee, nice place to sit outside. Even on a rainy day there’s an umbrella. I love it!

They did a great job on my old Norco. New tires, fenders, derailleur, pedals, bar tape, and brake pads. I didn't give them any instructions and they picked out the Pasela tires which are very stylish.

Absolutely awesome service. They worked on my Surrey Bike and got it running. Highly recomend them.

I've stopped at Velostar a few times since it's along the bike path and there always seem to be people outside. Great place to grab a coffee/snack post ride and sit down on the cute benches they have around this old tree out front. Had an issue with a brake disc rubbing last time on my way home for a ride and they took care of it for me pretty quickly.

Lovely neighbourhood cafe that is part of a bike shop. During COVID, they serve their customers through an adorable little window on the side street. The staff was lovely and attentive to all the customers. I could tell that many local residents were regulars. They also put an active effort into saving resources as they minimize packaging waste.
I got a lavender latte with oat milk that was so yummy. If you don't usually like the strength of lavender, this place does it perfectly where the lavender isn't too strong but still prominent. My latte fell a little flat, but that's not odd for oat milk.

Best coffee in the area! Cafe staff are always super friendly. There can be a bit of a wait when they are busy, but it's definitely worth the wait.

This happened at the end of last summer and I had decided at the time to not leave a review because I didn't want to make a big deal of my experience but since I ride by the shop a lot, it does stay in my memory. I had taken my wife's bike in for a tune-up and to get a shorter generic stem put on. When I went to pick it up, I was impressed by the work but my old stem wasn't with it. I asked the staff at the shop counter about it and they said they didn't know where it was, and to quote him directly " I don't know if we're going to be able to find it, " as if its acceptable to just not get your old stem back. His main concern was for me to forget about the stem and leave as if its normal. He even asked me to step aside so he could help another customer while I waited, which I did. Then he went searching again and finally found it after about 15-20 minutes. This wasn't some generic stem either. It was a Specialized stem that would go for about $70 used. It's not like changing out a busted wheel. The stem is perfectly fine and still belongs to the customer, you can't just take it.

Editing to respond to the owner: It's industry practice to return functioning parts to the owner. Instead of blaming me, maybe you should put in a procedure like asking people if they want their parts back. Or you can do what professional shops do and put the old parts in a ziplock bag and tape it to the frame. That way, no clutter, no mess, the customer is always taken care of and you don't have to misplace parts.

Wish I could give more than 2.the coffee is always great, but this cafe manages to be the absolute slowest place to go. On more than 1 occasion I've been waiting in a line of no more than 2 people, only to wait over 10 minutes to place an order.most times I just walk away. Once you do manage to order, it can take an eternity just to get a simple beverage like an iced coffee. The location is cute, people are friendly - but this place needs to speed up!

This is my go-to place for bike repairs and tune ups. There's limited space inside, but somehow they get the job done with ease. As this is a popular LBS, make sure to plan on advance for a summer tune up, but turnaround is still really good, sometimes even the next day for a major parts replacement. Happy this place exists, great for the neighborhood.

Great coffee! Had two almond lattes which were made to absolute perfection! So happy we've discovered this hidden gem!

One of the most Vancouver places in town, Velo Star is a bike shop and a cafe. All the staff are great and the shop is very community minded. They have lots of outdoor seating.

Everything I've eaten here has been delicious. Most recently I had a breakfast croissant and it was delicious. Tons of egg, flaky bagel. I'm still thinking about it.

I’m a front line hospital worker and have a short break. The lady at the store had me wait outside while she had a “meeting” with her coworker. Okay I get it.but if you know I’m standing outside for a while (which she did cause she told me) then at least acknowledge me and tell me that it’ll be a moment instead of have me go into the store all so they can tell me to go back to the window for service. Def won’t be going back.

Staff was helpful despite obviously being busy with service work. Good take out coffee window too.

Amazing quality service and friendly staff! They were able to fix my bike way ahead of schedule and for an extremely reasonable price. The staff did a lot of troubleshooting for my bike and worked until they found a solution! Thoroughly pleased with my experience here, and the coffee is great!

We love this littl neighbourhood cafe/bike shop. Lots of different options for food and drinks and a great shady area to sit and enjoy outside. Dog bowl also available outside for thirsty pups. Easy access order/pick up window with marked areas to line up. Friendly service!

Completely disappointed with the service. Be more realistic with your wait times. Quoted 4/5 days. Called in at day 9 and they had yet to touch my bike and he then told me a bunch of new information about the problem I was having that was not told to me when I initially brought it in. I told them to leave it then and just do the tune up, he said they'd have it done that night and I could pick it up the next day. I went the next day to pick it up and they still had not touched it so I just took it home.
I understand you're busy but that doesn't excuse terrible service and communication with your customers.

Looking for a bike pump I can use, they’re closed but people are inside. Can I have some air? No. Didn’t make me keen on returning.
