Wah Lai Yuen Bakery + Restaurant 華麗園

A reasonable Chinese bakery, certainly better than Victoria BBQ House & Bakery around the corner.

Having said that, it wasn't on par with the ones I've tried in Calgary and Vancouver. The bread portion of each bun I sampled was quite good but the filling left something to be desired.

The red bean paste was less sweet than I remember from other Chinese bakeries as well.

Overall, a pretty solid offering and the best available option for this category that I've found in Victoria (better the place I mentioned earlier in the review and Sally Bun).

Always the best place in town to grab something to eat, or in my case eat AND drink - wonton soup with BBQ duck!

Gotta get there early. Less goods than I remember during my school years, but still as good as I remember.

Came here in 2021 at the height of the Pandemic and did take out. Roast Pork over rice and Salty Fish fried rice. Total came to $43; so over $20 a dish. More expensive than Vancouver; not sure if it was a container fee or Pandemic prices. Regardless, given the lower rent in Victoria vs Vancouver this place is clearly gouging. Food was good but way way over priced. Their cost rating should be $$$ not $. I would never return.

Amazing char sui and rice! Got a large portion for about $20 The red bean bun and egg tart were also amazing! It’s hard to find good Chinese bbq and buns in Victoria so this is really appreciated. Staff were very kind too. Can’t wait to come back and try the crispy pork.

Not nearly as good as it used to be and the prices are way to high. I grew up going here for 30 years, was my favourite for Chinese food, and I’m sad that the food is so much worse since the new ownership.

On our trip to Victoria, we swung in here for some delicious buns. They were absolutely delicious!

We ordered a dish advertised as special with 3 dollars less than on the menu. But came out we were charged with the regular price as on the menu. As we challenged it, the restaurant owner replied the dish served was not a special. We were a bit disappointed with this misleading gimmet advertisement on the wall. We could not get the attention of the waiters/waitress until the owner ordered one of them to attend our need.

Ummmm delicious! The food was fast, hot and super delicious! Had the best Vietnamese coffee, fast service and really friendly. I’ll be back for sure!

Ordered delivery.there was a piece of metal wire in my chow mein and all the buns i ordered were stale and burnt on the bottom.so gross.

Used to be my favorite. It's been a few times with the takeout, always gave those overcooked or part of the barbecue pork. Dried and hard to eat. 咁嘅價錢會唔會有D 過分？一半以上都係D頭頭尾尾，好乾同埋好硬。好幾次外買都係咁。I complained about the quality not the quantity. Your response totally turn me off.
