I am disappointed that didn’t look pass my gender identity because I’m not super attractive for employment. Has to poke to get a response so they won’t ghost me. It’s a shame.
Excellent food and drink, was disappointed when I could no longer order from the regular menu after 8 pm. The ‘late night menu’ was a very reduced menu, and unfortunately, I wasn’t able to try what I wanted. I’m visiting friends here and was excited to sample multiple menu items. Hopefully this changes in the future, 8: 30 pm doesn’t seem like the appropriate time to switch to a ‘late night menu’.
Didn't eat today, just a pint and a bag of crisps. Still wonder why they don't bring back their world award winning Canadian Dark Beer "Snake Island " Bill
Had a great beef dip yesterday, and very friendly staff… came back today for a coffee… I’m pretty sure I was overcharged- $6.50 for a small (8oz) double Americano! Or they charge x2 for a second shot? If so, their larger sizes must only have 1 shot and be very weak…
Cool atmosphere and good beer but had to wait over 20 minutes for chips and salsa. Wasn't told there would be a wait and had to go up after watching several plates of beef melt dip walk past. Went up to ask when it would be out and she said there was a line up of food before. Completely understandable, however it is chips and salsa. Asked for a refund after 10+ minutes of waiting with one drink and it was received. The amount of time that it took for the manager to come out and do the refund would have been enough to put together our order. Will not be back again
Wide selection of very tasty beers. Chill atmosphere and very tasty nachos at a reasonable price. Highly recommended, easy choice if you are sitting around waiting for a ferry too.
Amazing IPA. No servers, raw chicken wings.can’t get another beer because the lineup is huge… off we go to another pub. Would have liked to have stayed longer.
Super cool place in Nanaimo, one of the few places you can go to chill on a rainy day. In the summer we have some beers then walk across the street to the waterfront. It's a great place to be.
Absolute terrible customer service. We were going to grab a beer tonight and quickly realized it was too busy so we left. As we were leaving, the front customer made a very rude comment about how we’re full and there was no room and was extremely nasty. Train you’re workers to treat customers properly or we will not come back.
I don't drink beer but they had a delicious cider on top. Had the pretzel with cheese dip - yummy. Cozy place with a fire. Great way to wait for the ferry!
Great beer, great building / atmosphere, friendly, helpful staff and really good potato chips! I would rate this place higher, if we had tried something more to eat, but based on our experience, I am sure everything else would be really good.
A great spot that's improved greatly from even a few years ago. Their beer menu has expanded greatly with something that should appear to just about everyone. They also have surprisingly good food for a place that used to not have food at all. Both the pretzels with cheese sauce and nachos were a hit!
Love the fresh soft pretzels with kosher salt- psst, they're vegan! Divine snack with a bit of mustard alongside a cold beer. Always friendly staff, nice atmosphere, reasonable prices. We are regulars!
Awesome beer and friendly staff! Favourite place in town for a quiet drink or to catch up with friends. The food is amazing, highly recommend the Brewers board!
Great local brew. Many brews to choose from and rotating taps as well. Friendly staff. Lots of space. Great nibbles to chew on and recently partnered up with local Cafe Cocos. Nachos are great. Had the Cocos tandoori chicken wings which were generous portions and super tasty.
Great beer. We tried a testing tray with some sour flavored beer, one that is infused with berries, one that is mixed with blood orange juice which was great and another one that tested traditionally lightly bitter. The nachos was great. Absolutely recommended!
I will never revisit this place. I was standing waiting to be helped and the guy working walked past me multiple times without acknowledging me. Two other customers came in after me and he went straight to them and started helping them choose beers they might like. I waited until they were finished talking and asked if dogs were allowed inside or if we could sit on the patio. He abruptly said that dogs aren’t allowed and the patio is closed. I left feeling ignored and had the feeling that he had racially profiled me as there was no reason I could see for the difference in how he treated me versus the people that entered after me. It didn’t feel right.
I've always loved this pub (even though in the pre-pandemic days it often got quite full). I absolutely love not only the local brews on tap, but also the lovely pretzels and other snacks that keep the beer company in my belly.
I'm happy to report that White Sails have adapted to pandemic protocols extremely well, and the main room looks clean, safe, and as stylish as ever.
White Sails is a great place for anything from an after-work snack, to meeting a friend, to a date. I highly recommend this lovely pub to everyone.
As a non beer drinker, I don’t frequent craft breweries like this often. White sails is a friendly, comfortable place to meet up with friends, with a few options for food and seating. Staff helped me find a few drink options to try, which I enjoyed, and the charcuterie plate was tasty and well presented. The space has a warehouse-meets living room feel, with a fireplace on one side and a high 2-storey ceiling. Unfortunately the seating isn’t super comfortable.
Accessibility: easy parking in back, great location, with level access, no stairs and good accessible washrooms. Some may have difficulty with the two sets of glass doors at the entrance. Lighting in the evening is medium level but well placed. Several tables are high-tops and inaccessible to wheelchair users, with a mix of small tables and lounge seating options as well. Seating options for wheelchair users may be hard to find when it’s busy.
Ordered a charcuterie board, 55 minutes I asked for a refund and went elsewhere. Literally the only ones in the place. Sooo hungry but apparently putting meat and cheese on a plate and informing customers of the delay is too difficult
An excellent brewery. The beers are clean and well-balanced. Good standards and features, and they usually have a rotating tap. Best place in Nanaimo to grab a pint. Prob best place in Nanaimo, full-stop. Also serves a small list of bites. The food is on the light side, so not the best option if you’re starving. But, the food is good and pairs well with the beer. The space! Awesome long and tall post-and-beam room with a mix of communal and private tables. Massive fireplace in the centre. If you visit Nanaimo, like beer, and didn’t go here, you’re failing at life.
Always a pleasant place to visit with a few feature beers that are top notch. Some of the better staff have been let go, but always enjoyable nonetheless.
Fabulous brewery in Nanaimo! They have an awesome lineup of beers. Nitro porter and the Mt. Benson IPA are amazing. Check out their website - we loved how they feature their connections with local businesses in their food menu (and with the coffee lager!). Great service, and a great venue. You are encouraged to play one of the many board games they have there. This brewery has done it right.
Great experience at White Sails. Very tasty IPA and Pale Ale. Charcuterie board was a big size and delicious. Best prices I’ve ever seen at a Brewery! Will definitely come back.
My sister and I visited on Monday afternoon around 2 pm. The beer was a 4, the atmosphere was a 3 and the service was a 1 because of the attitude of the wait person serving the beer. She was extremely rude to a male guest who left unhappy and was anything but pleasant when serving us. She's in the wrong job!
Fantastic atmosphere for a pint with friends, the food is impressively made and reasonably priced too. The classic beers are a staple for us locals, just be sure to sample their more experimental beers first, they are often unremarkable; I'd like to see them get more creative and ambitious in the future. My personal favorite is the Abyss Brown Ale!
Friendly staff who must enjoy their work 'cause they are always smiling. Clean open space with lots of natural light. I don't drink but friends tell me that the beer is pretty darn good. They do offer a variety of softdrinks from Phillips Soda Works; my favourite is Sparkmouth Ginger Ale. Nice touch: Playing cards and a selection of board games are available for use at no charge
Such a comfy environment here, great fireplace to warm you up in the winter. The beer selection is fantastic! The Snake Island CDA is amazing. Be nice if the metal chairs had cushions though. This place is a must-go-to in Nanaimo
Great beers. This time I tried their wonderfully hoppy with massive citrus notes. They also can order food from many different nanaimo eateries, which is good.
Starting going to White Sails when it first opened but like many smaller breweries it takes a while to get into stride. Well they've done that and more. Their brews are now very very good and competitive with other breweries. The chocolate porter is fantastic as is the Mt. Benson IPA. Seems to be a much more 'happening' place now. Glad to see that.
The food offerings are not extensive and I guess it is better to focus on making beer rather than being a pub. The charcutiere plate is excellent and great value for money!
An excellent addition to Nanaimo, it's downtown theme and hopefully a long term member of our community!
Fantastic brewery. Friendly and knowledgeable staff will to share beer tasting thoughts and stories.unique arrangement with local eateries for a limited food service but they encourage you to bring your own. I'll be back!
Do yourself a favor and go here and taste their awarding winner beers, you'll never go back to normal beer again. Mount Benson is my go to beer everytime I'm on the island.
