Jack Astor's Bar & Grill Dartmouth

We had a great meal and our waiter Matt was exceptional. I asked for his opinion as I hadn't been before. He gave me honest feedback about a few dishes to help me decide. Can't say enough good things about him.

Busy restaurant with a fairly extensive menu. Very friendly and professional staff. Recommended.

Miranda was amazing! Made us feel like family. Would go back because of her and she wasn’t even our server. Food was amazing

The food was great, my medium steak was right on the mark! The server was fantastic! It's a little on the expensive side and very loud. The booth next to is was using profanities every second word and having very vulgar discussions. Not sure staff could have done much, except maybe try to sit families with children separately from such tables.

Went to eat while in Haifax for the day 08/10/2023. Our server, Taja (I think that was her name), was incredible. She answered all our questions and was very knowledgeable.
Went there, though, to have the Seasame Thai Chicken as it's my favorite. But sadly, it's no longer on the menu. Extremely disappointed that it's been removed.

The stack’s chicken quesadilla sandwich was horrible. Soggy, cheap chicken, the Valentina’s sauce was so gross and overbearing you couldn’t taste the other items that were in the menu description. I would have rather thrown $25 into the wind. The meals from the kids menu looked thrown together. It was obvious nobody cares about a child’s taste buds.

The food could of been better was ok but for the price the portion was small I thought and I'm not even a big eater and the menu not the greatest.service was great and food tasted ok.

Awesome service, our waitress was lovely! Didn’t get her name but she’s blonde with her hair half up & two pigtails. Super kind and quick to serve. Also loved that you could see another woman who I will assume was the manager (not in standard uniform) cleaning off tables and serving food - helping the waitress’ as much as she could! Food was great! Would recommend!:)

We have a lovely time at Jack Astor's in Dartmouth. I made a reservation online ahead of time and was glad that I did as it was busy. Considering how busy it was they do an excellent job with social distancing. The entire staff was friendly and our waitress Kristy was wonderful. Very attentive to my gluten-free allergies and made surey food was prepared safely. If you are looking for gluten-free and vegetarian options, they have a pretty extensive menu which is great.

What happened to this place? Ingredients used to be fresh now they serve salty, processed, rubbery chicken in 90% of their dishes. Absolutely disappointing. How can they justify using such horrible quality ingredients while they RAISE their prices?

Was OK. Server could have been a little more polite. Food portions has gone down. Surprising seeing the menu is far less, understandably, by covid.

Our favorite spot in Dartmouth crossing. Food is always delicious and staff is very friendly and helpful. Excellent variety of menu items and a great draft beer selection. Looking forward to our next visit!

I found it terribly over priced for marginal food. Go down the road to 2 Doors Down, less money for a locally sourced menu that is twice the quality.

Ate lunch here with another couple today. Two of us had the Thai Sesame Chicken Stir Fry. Loved it. The vegetables were very fresh and crisp. The rice was just "sticky" enough to work well with chopsticks. The other meals at our table were the Holy Smoke Burger and the Chicken & Goat Cheese Wrap. They also enjoyed them. We also ordered some of their craft beers and the Gummi Bear Margherita. Although, this site has varying reviews, we certainly had a great lunch. First time here and we'll definitely be back. Service was great. Thanks.

I paid 30 dollars plus tip for a bowl of noodles with tofu and a water. The food took forever, we waited almost an hour and it wasn't even busy. They charged me 3.99 for a water. The nachos we ordered as an appetizer arrived after our main courses, and my cousin found a hair in her food. The beer was not cold. I will never go back there. Another garbage chain restaurant that is over-priced

Its been awhile since I've eaten here, However I think I've experienced the best customer service at Jack asters out of any other restaurant I've ever visited Simply because they make the moment right.

The reception and service was great. Usual decorations with the new COVID glass dividers etc.

The food wasn't. The chicken dishes were rubbery or overcooked. Pasta dish had little sauce and was dry. The cheese on the dish was burnt and that flavour got into the dish.

We were there for a family event and didn't want to ruin it by complaining. Not the quality of food that we used to see at this franchise.

Last visit.

My wife make a point to visit the Dartmouth location whenever we are in town. Normally the service is good. This visit the service was slow, even though it wasn't busy. The server was cold and unattentive. The hostesses were to busy with a personal conversation to even notice us leave. Quite frankly it just turned us off from a future visit. Parts of the food were cold as it probably
Sat in the window too long. Just overall a poor experience for a 75 dollar meal.

Had an amazing experience at Jacks on Saturday august 7th. Had a reservation for 6: 30 PM arrived at the counter just before 630 was quickly seated at our booth and the server was right along. The server quickly took her to drink order as well as an appetizer order and the appetizer was delivered Very quickly and efficiently and our main course also came out very fast and we were in and out in under an hour but she really appreciated as we were tired after a day of shopping in the Dartmouth area. Claire from Newfoundland has amazing service so if you ever need a good server definitely ask for her she was awesome

With current pandemic requirements in place, they were able to get us in and out within 45 minutes. The service and food were both great.

Denied service because I wasn't wearing a mask. Would not budge with medical exemption. Will be reporting to NS Human Rights & filing complaint. "Essentially, staff may remind patrons there is a mask policy. However, if the customer says they have a medical exemption, then that is the end of it. Pressing someone on why is a human rights violation, " spokesperson Jordi Morgan wrote in an email to CBC News.

Plant based menu, quote a few items offered, ordered the Mexixan bowl. Tasted better than it looked. Surprised they're weren't more peppers.

My only issue with this place has always been price point. Otherwise they offer a variety of entrees. I had the truffle burger and it was interesting. Kinda like eating a beef stroganoff sauce but was a very interesting blend. Not sure I would say it’s my fave. Wife ordered her favourite spicy pad Thai tofu and the child ordered her oversized chicken nuggets (couldn’t finish them). The waitress was definitely on point and looked after us. Kudos to great customer service experience

Always enjoyed my food when I eat here. The service is always very good. If I could change one thing it would be to bring back the board nachos because they were so good!

I ordered the Calamari and it was way over cooked and I also ordered the Chicken sandwich and it was a lot of batter. Just disappointed with the quality of the food this visit.

The meal was pretty good which is why I give it 3 stars, but our drinks were horrible and service wasn’t great. We got mixed drinks that had tequila in them and that’s all you could taste. I’m sure it was a mix up at the bar. They seemed very busy and we didn’t want to bother getting another drink. The service wasn’t stellar, we had our appetizer split between 3 of us and plates were not brought out to us, our waitress however was very nice. There are a lot better local and more affordable options for your money in Halifax.

Wife loves the updated menu. The wait time was not there. Plus they have made out door patio in parking lot. Adapting to covid like a boss. The staff all were great.

The meal I had was incredibly tasty and a perfectly sized portion for me. Atmosphere was great. Nothing to complain about!

I had a positive review posted of this place. But after getting takeout from here this evening, I have to change my opinion.

I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and it was pretty bland. The chicken was on the crispy / burnt side and left a bad aftertaste. Also, the lettuce was atrocious. It was clearly old and starting to rot.

I ordered the chicken fingers for my kids (which I honestly normally love myself), and they were the same as the chicken from my burger. Burnt and left a bad after taste.

For the $90 bucks I spent here on three different dishes, I don't feel it's worth it. Normally I love going to this restaurant, but I can't in good faith give a high review when the difference between dine in, and takeout is so vast.

Outstanding, food quality and presentation, the best. Bruschetta the tastiest I ever had, service friendly, steak was delicious. Ordered vodka martini, they had no olives, ordered a Cuba libre, no Baccardi rum settled for a Lambs rum and coke, good. Only 4 of 5.

I'm from out of town and always wanted to try Jack Astor's food. So I decided to order two 2 piece fish and chips and crab and lobster dip appetizers. I went to pick up my order and after waiting over 5 minutes at the desk (and yes a few employees saw me standing there, but nobody would come over to me) I had to call out to someone to come help me. I get back to my hotel, over 10 min drive, opened up the fish and chips container and saw only 2 pieces of fish, no fries, for both orders. I called the restaurant and was told sorry nobody was available for delivery and no managers were available to help. Nobody offered to have someone call me to rectify the situation. After paying almost $68 for food I was really disappointed in both the taste and service. Definitely first and last time I would eat there!

Haven't eaten in at this exact location, but I ordered from Uber today. The price is kinda steep for portion size, and they forgot the gravy on my poutine. Which was surprising since that's a big factor for a poutine.

The new loaded chicken fingers are an amazing upgrade experience to their already incredible fresh made strips.a must try.highly recommend the macho natcho paired with an add on of their Buffalo sauce for an extra kick!

The food was great! Even better was the stellar service. I cant remember our servers name, but she was awesome. She was so considerate when we didnt love one of the appetizers, AND she bravely removed a giant spider that crawled under our table! Would come again for sure!

This place is quite over priced for the quality and quantity of food. It was clean. However, it definitely was not how it used to be years ago.

We had a great dining experience tonight! Sam, our waitress was the bomb! She was so friendly and helpful and made our already great experience that much better! The food was delicious and the restaurant was very well prepared and set up to follow all Covid rules! Can’t wait to go back again!

It was awesome. Our server was very attentive to our needs, but gave us space. The food came out very quicky and was hot. Their chicken strips were the best I've ever had!

Used to come here all the time before covid and was always happy. Came in today for the first time since covid and the chicken was rubbery and overcooked, barely got any sauce, and watched the waiter serve multiple other tables while waiting 10 minutes for condiments etc. Also the bill was through the roof for the quality of food and service. Definitely wont be coming back anytime soon!
