Danny's Fish and Chips

Fish is not fresh. Chips is over cooked. Previous owner 'Danny Fish & Chips ' make much much better Fish & chips and prices is much more reasonable.

Went here with my family and we all had Haddock and Chips. Portions were large, batter was light and crisp, and food was all freshly made. We will definitely return.

I order halibut and onion rings for lunch here yesterday. The halibut was very dry and thin, the batter was not the same as before. The onion rings were a bit soggy, it feel like it needed more time in the fryer. I was the only table there, so the cook had plenty of time to cook my food. In my opinion, the food was a lot better when the previous owner (Danny) was here. I probably won't return anymore.

Best fish n chips in Markham fries and veggies and everything tastes very fresh and top quality make sure you save some room for there carrot cake at the end too it is not to be missed

Service was good and the atmosphere was ok. However the fish seemed like it was cooked in old oil and the fries didn’t seem like it was cooked thoroughly (it was a bit hard).

Excellent fish and chips - everything was fried well and not greasy. Very generous with the tartar sauce which is appreciated cause I find that other fish and chip restos tend to be quite stingy on condiments, and/or make you pay extra. Given quality and freshness of the food, a little surprise that we were the only table during Saturday lunch. Service was also friendly and attentive.

The cod fish I ordered is good and the home style fries is just what I loved. The mango milkshake is tasty as well. I will definitely go back again. Besides, they’re nice to the kids.

Really good piece of fish with minimal breading. However (I know it's deep fried), but my fish was dripping with oil.
Would be great if they soaked up some of the oil or offered a pan fried option.
Friendly staff and definitely tasty food. It's a good spot if you're having a cheat day.

Ordered the haddock chips and coleslaw + seafood linguine.

Chips were not so fresh, a tad under seasoned. Haddock was fried fresh and delicious, though also just a tad under seasoned as well. Cole slaw I really liked as it was soaked in a sweet vinegar; I really dislike coleslaw drenched in mayo so this was a nice surprise.

Seafood linguine was surprisingly delicious. It had halibut, shrimps, scallops, squid and calamari. Was surprised to bite into two very sizeable bones from the halibut but thankfully no harm.

As others have noted, seating is definitely cramped which is a bit unfortunate but I understand that the restaurant itself is quite constrained. Kitchen is also right next to dining area so the oil stench and spray in the air is also unfortunate.

We asked for two small plates. We were politely served them, but they were from the stack near the kitchen. They were sticky from the oil and the face of the plate could definitely be more clean.

The condiments (specifically the ketchup and tartar sauce bottles) that were brought from the kitchen were also grimed in oil and quite sticky. However, I found it odd that each table had a bottle of mustard, relish, and other less used condiments and they looked to be clean. I suggest each table having their own ketchup and tartar bottle.

The utensils and the table itself was clean. The sitting bench had food remnants, though.

Service was good. It's a one man band, but they were very nice to us and the tables before us.

Overall good food but it would be even better if the place could be a bit more cleanly.

This is a local restaurant that run by very few people. It is a local gems in my opinion.
Most important for fish and chips is that you have to dine-in for a hot crispy fish and chip. Take out order is not going to do well in a container even for 5 minutes.
Came here on Monday night and they are not busy for dine-in, but contently customer coming in.
This is my first visit even this spot is open for at least 20 years if not longer. They just recently changed owner but the restaurant remains exactly the same (Except the name).
Fish and chips is above average here in my opinion.
Everything we order is really good and taste fresh.
I recommend the butter chicken poutine, it was so good that we almost order a second order but we are too full to do so.
Services is extremely good!
During my visit there is only one guy works there as a chef and server, but he manages to cook good food and keep us happy.
You can tell by the decorations that the restaurant is open in the 80s but they keep it very clean.
Our server (and chef) ask us to tell him what we like and what we don't like so he can remake it if needed. I really like that.
You really cannot get any more local than this. Lol
Burger is good, fish and chips is good, chicken quesadilla is good.
Not everything is perfect here but it just give me one of this family type of feel when I eat here. Feels like a every Sunday breakfast place with family or something.
I will definitely return and try their breakfast items.
Parking is not big so it can be a challenge during weekends.

I heard that they changed ownership not too long ago and there are good and bad reviews. We went for a late brunch around noon. We were warmly welcomed by waiters. The service is professional. Didn't expect the interior to be so local and historical. It was a surprise.

We ordered the Mary's Benny, Turkey Bacon breakfast, and single pancake with peameal. We were the only table. The three orders took them quite a while, but you could tell they put effort into the dishes and everything came at the same time.

Coffee was good. We had special requests for each order and everything was on point. Each ingredient has its own distinct flavor. The home fries were slightly undercooked but we liked that it was not too salty.

Some downside I can think of is the oily smell when we waited for food, because the kitchen is right by the tables. Also the seats are a bit tight.

One man show lot of respect for the guy working, brought out the food really fast (I ordered the haddock plate and haddock fish and chips it was wonderful the oil he used to fry the fish and chips was really fresh and the quantity of food he provided was alot will comeback again in the future

Processed cheese on $10 poutine!

I went there for fish and chips, the food is very good. I ordered halibut and chips. The fish is fresh and the chips are fresh cut. There kitchen is open kitchen. Very clean. I will come again.

Got the halibut and chips which were delicious, but the Cole slaw was a bit fishy which was off putting. Needless to say, I didn't eat much of it.

Outstanding from the heart service with delectable home cooked food that does not break the bank. We went here for my birthday lunch. I had the all day breakfast which included 4 eggs, toast, vegetables and roast potatoes (I opted out of the bacon etc). My friends had the souvlaki, the teriyaki salmon and the halibut. Chased down with some coffee, tea and soda. Will be going back for sure and I highly recommend them.

The halibut was huge, crispy and flavourful.
Well done Mary’s fish and chips.
I will even venture to say it was better than Danny’s (the previous owners).

Price wise, it was on the high end for 2 orders but then again where can you find a cheap fish and chips shop nowadays.
It was still well worth it as the size of the Halibut and quality of the meal was overly satisfying.

Had dinner at Mary’s tonight. We were always loyal to Danny’s, and don’t like change but I’m glad we went! The food was plentiful, fresh and delicious! The staff were excellent and courteous! I highly recommend!

The food here is amazing! The chef is incredibly nice and is super welcoming and makes some great food!

We got Calamari w/ Creamy Thai Sweet Chili Sauce, and Halibut Chips & Greek Salad. Calamari came in a huge portion, it was crispy, the Squid was tender, and the Sauce was perfect for it! Halibut came in a big piece, fried to perfection, the Batter was thin, the Fish was juicy, flakey, the Chips were crispy, thick cut, upgraded Greek Salad had a wonderful dressing, it had Onion, Tomato, Bell Peppers, Cucumbers, and Olives, gosh it was fantastic!

I've been hunting good fish and chips east of Markham for 20 years. Everything is just okay in Durham Region. I did a day trip from Courtice to Markham today and picked Mary's for lunch. The haddock was cooked perfectly. The chips were traditional and lightly seasoned meaning you decide if they need more salt. The coleslaw was dressed perfectly. They've perfected fish and chips on this side of the Atlantic. The portions are generous. I loved the gravy. The service is great. Highly recommend. I will be back.

Best fish and chips we have had in a long time. They took over Danny’s but I think it is better. Huge menu that we are excited to try. Try it… you will love it!

We had a good evening at Mary's Fish and Chips (was known as Danny's Fish and Chips). The service was good and the staff was nice and friendly, we had some good chitchat. We were impressed with the fresh food. We ordered Cod & Chips + Greek Salad and Halibut & Chips they were shared by my husband and myself. They were fresh fried fish and portions were generous with reasonable price. Definitely we will be coming back again and would recommend this place to anyone!

The best part of our meal was the salad.
The salad had fresh ingredients, tasty sauce and ample quantity. Onion rings were average. Fish had a bad aftertaste due to the old oil that it was fried in. To be fair we did order later in the day.

Get take out here at least once a month, the food is excellent!

Delicious and quality fish and chips and one of the best in the Markham/Unionville area. Orders are quick efficient considering that each order is cooked as you order, guaranteed to be fresh. Portions were great as well.

The environmental and atmosphere has the old school charm, but is very clean.

Had the halibut today, amazing. The fish was perfectly battered and fried. Super crispy batter, without any of the heavy oil taste. Chips were also cooked well, the portion size is perfect. The fish is noticeably fresh, thank you for an amazing meal.

Best part is this restaurant is that it’s family owned, feels great to have places like these to go to.

As an avid lover of fish and chips I used to have to drive around 4 hours to the Tobermory and Bruce Peninsula Area for what I thought was the best version of this dish. That is, until I discovered Danny's Fish and Chips nestled in the heart of Markham. Not only do they have the best fish and chips around, but as was pointed out to me by the owner (who is truly a gem of a person) the fish is always fresh. (never frozen) and they are one of the only places that uses 100% vegetable oil for frying culminating in an unbelievable experience. I highly recommend this place, you will not be disappointed. Support local!

Got the haddock + frings. Good crispy texture and flavour. Wish it came with some lemon though.

I ordered in advance 3 halibut meals. Once I arrived, there was someone in front of me who they took care of quite quickly and got to me. I got my order right away and it was on to the next person for them. Quick and efficient! The portions and food was great. The family was extremely satisfied and they threw in tons of sauce packets. Definitely recommended as a go to spot for fish and chips. The halibut is a must! Thank you!

This place has been around forever, it’s great. The only issue I have is with how they handled tonight’s Good Friday orders. I get it, it’s busy. I’m the owner of a restaurant myself but seeing as they just do fish and salads, they should be pushing out meals very quickly. We were told we should come pick up our meal 45 minutes after we ordered. Got there, told half an hour. Half an hour passes, told another hour. The people for 6: 30 were getting their meals at like 8pm. No reason for this honestly. Fish in the fryer is extremely quick and salads take 5 minutes if that. Very Disappointed.

4 adults and a 3 year old all enjoyed the halibut. It is so good and light, not oily or greasy and so satisfying. The combo with chips (fries) and/or with a salad was delicious! They are peanut free so it's a big plus for my peanut allergic child. Not a fan of the spicy fries - found them to be too much on the sour side. Customer service is super friendly and pleasant. Will definitely be back to try the other fish on the menu.

Best fish and chips place in the entire GTA. Watch them pull a non frozen giant fish out, dip it in batter and fried fresh. All orders are made by the order so you can expect the hottest mouth burning freshness. Staff members are great and treat you very nicely.

I come to this unique place from time to time since I love the special atmosphere that is part of this place. The crew is extremely welcoming and experienced. The service is certainly quick. Not to mention, the food you get is excellent. I came more than once and I was always satisfied. The pay is honest. I highly suggest this restaurant to to all.

CAUTION! The food is not good as the reviews suggests. Be careful of the staffs, they are not following the COVID-19 health protocol, they didn't wear gloves whiling handling foods, not suggesting order any takeout recently due to the health issue.

I go to this superb restaurant every couple of days since I love the good air that is exist in this place. The staff is extremely welcoming and well trained. The service is awfully fast. Needless to say, the food they prepare is perfect. I came often and I was always joyful. The price is honest. I highly suggest this place to all my friends.

First time here (Sunday September 22), food was spectacular! They had many different choices when it comes to fish. Prices were pretty standard as well, didn't find them too bad.
The fish was nice and crispy, fries were tasty. Tarter sauce was spectacular.
Service was very good, a young lady who served us seemed very knowledgeable and polite.
The chef seemed kind of grumpy, didn't talk much nor did he seem happy. Refused to entertain our small talk but that's ok.
Was told it is run by a father-son team, they do not come in on Sundays.
Overall, will be back. Food was simply, amazing. Better than halibut house or anything close within the area

Not sure if it was just my day but the size of the items were not equal to the price. I found it overpriced maybe because I had just went to a location near a beach and their fish and chip was amazing for the price.

I will say that the fish was nicely deep fried.

Unbelievable fish and chips people. I had the haddock and my parents had the halibut. We mixed and matched, because why not? Lol the halibut seemed meatier but the haddock was crunchy goodness. I tried their mango shake (introduced one week ago according to the owner) and it was sublime.

And what can I say about the hospitality? Came in 755 and Ike said we were closing but that he'll make the food still. Told him it was our first time and he added more tartar sauce, more chips and it was fantastic.

For a place I've seen so many times, I'm so happy I finally tried it today!
