Don's Fish & Chips

Just took my family of four to grab fish and chips and to go down to the water in Brockville. The haddock was beyond good! Super crispy fries awesome dark gravy. Been coming to this place for 15+ years super friendly people inside. Strongly recommend

Pre-cooked fish and chips that were freshly made but soft and soggy. Disgusting! For the amount charged it’s a disgrace, not sure how this business survived for 60 years! Would have never bought any food from here…. Inaccurate past reviews!

What an amazing place! Not only is the food and service awesome, the owner went above and beyond to make the food was safe for my daughter to eat that has an anaphylactic food allergy. She doesn't get to eat out at many places because of her allergy, she was so happy that she was able to today! A huge thank you to Don's Fish and Chips for making my daughters day!

We were recommended to try the fish & chips by a friend in Brockville. My husband and I ordered the haddock & fries. Service was fast & friendly. Unfortunately our orders did not meet our expectations. The fries were under cooked. Our fish looked like it came out of a box of captain highliners. The portions were tiny, like a child's meal, and the batter was crispy on the outside, but goey, under cooked on the inside. The tater sauce wasn't even home made, a small package of Kraft's tater sauce. Waste of money.

Take-out only. Little window kinda like a food truck without the truck. Locals say it'd the best and I agree.very good and the park on the water is a block away. Sitting in the park on a picnic table enjoying fish & Chips in the sun watching the boats go by; now that's s 5 star atmosphere

While visiting Brockville we were highly recommended to try Don's fish and chips. It's my wife's favorite meal. We have tried many different locations and cities and the fish wasn't that bad and I found the batter similar to a pogo batter. Not as crispy and light as you would expect from a beer batter. Fries were ok but way too many small pieces (slivers) I understand they may have been busy and often enough restaurants just scrape whatever is in the tray to keep the flow but way too many small pieces for my liking. This is a chip wagon style so there's no place to seat or even shade while waiting for the food. Overall it was okay.

They changed their gravy since the last time, not as big of a fan of it now. Great service though!

Every time I make a trip back home I make sure to stop in and order something. The poutine is some of the best I've had, and the fish and chips are always a hit when I introduce friends to the local grub.

Uniquement mais à emporter, mais c’est pas grave, il y a le port et un parc avec une vue magnifique sur le lac à 2 mn a pieds. Le poisson est délicieux et les frites exquises. A recommander.

It was a 5 star place but something has changed about the fish

After my friend and his family raving about this place and the locals as well.
I decided to five this place a try.
I can say I was not impressed I was quite disappointed
As I unpacked the huge package of fish and chips I noticed that my "piece" of fish was about the size of a young childs fist.
Like what!
As I unpacked more this hard lump of what I was thinking the rest of my piece of fish.
Sadly it was just more French fries hard packed inside
Hell I can have French fries any where
I came for the fish
It was more of an appetizer before I got full on fries.

Very disappointed with the service. I waited in line a good 15 minutes while staff at the window chatted with the person ahead of me. After waiting 15 minutes listening to him chat about his personal life the staff looked at me and just said “yes” in a very rude tone. When you go somewhere and you’re paying $24 for one meal you would think the staff would at least have enough respect to be profession and kind.

I'm in my 40's and I can even remember the delicious mouth watering taste from when I was young and we usually made a trip from Ottawa every summer just for this yummy fish n chips. I introduced my husband on Canada Day 2022. And It's still delicious even without the newspaper

Fish is delicious - I’ve tried the cod and the haddock, and both are great. The fries are also delicious, and the pogos are the best I’ve ever tried.

I am sorry to say this was nothing short of horrible.
The fish was like eating a bread roll and zero taste, and your batter is far to heavy.
Chips 2 or 3 mins over cooked.
I have never had fish and chips that are so terrible in my 61 years on this planet.
Being british, I know my fish and chips.

Unsatisfying

We ordered two large meals (One Haddock $20, one Cod $20), a small poutine, and a hotdog. Our bill ran up to almost $70. I give 1 star because the portions for fries were huge, but for the price and quality of food, it was overpriced. The fish itself was decent, imo the cod was better than the haddock, less batter. But the fries were so greasy, and overdone, even my 3 year old, who is basically made of potato at this point, would not eat them. The hot dog was all beef, but over cooked and dry, and the poutine was dry, very minimal curds and gravy.
AND Kraft Tartar sauce? ! What kind of a harbour town fish and chips joint serves store bought tartar sauce!? And they gave 4 packets of ketchup for all the fries, after I asked for extra.
The customer service was mediocre, the server at the window was short and not very welcoming.

Just another fish and chips place. Don’t know what the hype was all about.
It was take away and they gave Kraft’s tartar sauce.

I regret going to this place and spending my hard earned money.
The staff was unbelievably rude, probably because I am a visible minority and my wife wears a hijab.
We ordered 5 Fish & Chips, cost more than $100, but they were so stingy with the condiments.
The helpings were very generous, but the food was warm, not hot.
Fries were likely a 2nd batch cause they were hard and not really eatible.
The fish was also luke warm, not fried very well.
Will never go back.
I think that you should not go here either.

Last night we ordered fish and chips from Don’s and it was excellent. Both the fish and chips were still hot when we picked them up and tasted great. The fish was perfectly cooked.

Easily some of the best fish and chips I’ve had! Fish was incredibly fresh and moist, batter wasn’t too thick but still very crispy. All served up with a smile too, highly recommended!

Everytime I visit. I make sure to stop here. Food is always consistent. Best fish and chips in town! The gf also loves the pogos

When I lived in Brockville, I was a regular visitor to Don's Fish and Chips. Now that I live farther away, I go less often however it is a great excuse for a day trip. I pick up my order of fish and sweet potato fries and head down to the park by the St. Lawrence River to enjoy the view. On my last visit to Don's this past summer, I was disappointed that the server didn't wrap my order in newspaper (English style) like they used to. Perhaps it has something to do with COVID rules or maybe the business has changed hands. I'm not sure, but I do hope they return to the former English style in the future. It's all part of the fun of unwrapping your fish and fries!

Bon fish and chips pas trop huileux, pis les frites étaient délicieuses, par contre j'ai pas aimé le tartare kraft et il manquait une mini salade de choux, service rapide et courtois.prévoyez une place pour aller manger car il n'y a pas de tables sur place.

Chips were fantastic however the fish was way to over battered and wasn't really that good. Didn't get a plate to eat my food on or a container I could eat out of.

Consistent food for many many years,
But I find in comparison to other fish and chips restaurants in my area, Don's are over priced with the extra thick dough on the Fish.
But regardless of the thick dough, mmm the fish is cooked perfect always on point and delicious.

Came from Ottawa to eat here. Worth the trip. Fish was perfect. We had the large cod and large haddock. The only thing we miss was a box not accustomed to eating out of a bag. Too much for me to finish. Wonderful date day trip. Will definitely be back for more with our own picnic plates

Food is usually good unless you get a poutine. Clearly they are scraping the bottom of the pot the gravy is in and you end up with big sludge like chunks of gravy, not really ideal for the price you pay.

Was disappointed in Don's today. The fish batter was sought. Remember it being a lot lighter batter. Have not been in a long time. I was looking forward to it. Fries were Delicious.

Recommended by friend took Sunday drive from Kingston. Small local shop, prices reasonable, few waiting. Our order was timely, went to blockhouse Island to eat lunch. The fish was stick shaped, battered & deep fried. Cruncy outside but soft doughy inside. I peeled the fish apart from the batter, it was delicious. Fries were crunchy & over cooked. I ate few fries. It was not to my liking at all. Less batter would be better. My husband ate his fish & fries.

Phoned ahead, order was ready when I got there. Fish was piping hot as were the over generous amount of fries. Never a bad meal. Staff is friendly and courteous. Well done, again.

Absolutely amazing and so fresh. Portions are fantastic and huge. 2 meals for me easy. My cousin told me about this place and I'll definitely keep recommending it and coming back anytime I'm in Brockville.

Do not recommend this place. Food is great but the cashier is not.very rude and very aggressive with customers. Will not be making a stop the next time I’m in town. When ever she’s not working I’ll stop by

This is a wonderful place. What it lacks in seating, it makes up for in speedy service and great food. While you do pay a premium, it is well worth it. The Haddock is tender inside with a nice crunch on the outside, the chips are certainly the homestyle I would expect, and the poutine is an instant win with the affordable extra gravy option. All said and done, it made for a wonderful night out with the family.

It's a local delicacy. I usually get a large poutine and a pogo. The poutine is generous, made with proper curd cheese, and rich dark gravy. I usually question my judgement ordering a large but, heres why. Lemme tell you about the pogo. It's not just a regular pogo from a box. This one is battered in-house with that fluffy crunchy famous batter of theirs. Its perfect for soaking up the leftover poutine gravy.there's a system! And it's amazing.

Fish average ok, fries very normal. Good portion to eat only if you are very very hungry. Tartar sauce is Kraft, not home made.

Went to Brockville earlier this week to go camping and woman handing out the window was very rude.

Old English style fish n chips

Brockville is well known for their fish n chips shops. I wish they still wrapped your order in newspaper that was part of the experience and kept your order hot til you got home.
(Manolls still does I believe)
But all in all DELICIOUS!

Best fries ever. Fish is ok, a bit too much batter for my taste. We took the large mixed dinner and it fed both my gf and I.

We from Ottawa we had this for first time and best fish n chips I have had. Nice thin batter thick piece of fish. Juicy. Fries really good. Will definitely be going there next visit to Brockville. Little on pricy side but still good.

What better thing to do on your canceled wedding day. Go to Don's Fish&Chips! Thanks for a predictably great meal to make the day better!

It was my first time to Brockville and heard about Dons so definitely had to check it out! Being from Nova Scotia I do have high expectations and this definitely made it! I have to say the best fish and chips I have had! ️️ You guys rocked it!

Bought two large orders of fish & chips & the quality of both was delicious, This is the only fry’s for many miles that are always cooked in fresh oil & your not given burnt, over cooked pieces that should of been skimmed out of fryer. The cleanliness & covid profile was followed perfectly & the staff very friendly. Been going here for many years & would highly recommend to anyone looking for tasty fish & chips.
