Fran's Restaurant

Met a friend for lunch here today and the restaurant was lively.even with most of the tables filled up and staff moving around constantly, a server kindly greeted and welcomed me.noticed that the service was generally pretty quick, which was great since we were on a bit of a time crunch.i ordered fran’s energy breakfast and my friend got the nachos please (added homemade chili). I didn’t get to try my friend’s order (again, we were in a rush), but my meal was alright.the egg was big, but the slice of ham was very thin (could barely taste it) and the homemade fries were mid (not the best i’ve ever had). Overall, the service was great (attentive and energetic, despite how busy and chaotic it was), but i probably won’t order the same meal again (for that price at least).

Bad service! 35 min waiting for a meal…. Nothing came… personnel attitude terrible. I do not recommend going to this place!

Classic diner, across the street from Massey Hall. The service is superior and the food, tasty. My family and I will definitely be back, and we might also check out the other location.

I had their famous club sandwich, on rye, and I can see why it's famous. The rest of my party had breakfast and the portions were generous.

Had an enjoyable time to end by birthday weekend in Toronto. The food tasted great! I had the big breakfast and tomato soup. They both tasted great! Service was amazing. The warm Philippina woman was so nice and gracious.

Classic diner food, and done well. Decor is more upscale than many diners. Staff are attentive, and focused. I will go again.

Fast eats in downtown Toronto. Diner style. Reasonable prices, good service and a varied menu.

Went for dinner here before a show at Messy Hall. Love the atmosphere, food options are great and the staff is so nice! Definitely recommend to hit up this spot before a show or when you’re in the city!

Frans is an awesome classic diner. Great food, good prices. Milkshake and all day breakfast is always a favourite for me. Used to be 24 hours before covid. Had many a late night meal there. Would give 6 stars.

Great customer service.but I wish they would serve real potatoes for home fries instead of frozen tator tots that gets hard, can't eat it.

Thanks for your response. Was not informed of your different options. What I ordered states Home Fries on the menu and what looks like a bit oily tator tots showed up.see pic.did not finish it.loses its edible texture when cold.

Frans is easily one of our favorite diners when we come to Toronto. Frans was recommended to us when my fiance and I came to Toronto 5 years ago and it was absolutely delicious. We visited Toronto again this winter and returned to Frans. Great service from our server, I think he said his name was Mike! Our food was fresh and delicious as always. I got tje eggs Benedict (my go to for diners) and he got steak and eggs. We even returned the next day for food. We always recommend Frans to friends.

GREAT SERVICE from the Asian lady and the Asian guy (kitchen). BUT, the heavyset white woman was RUDE. I asked her nicely "May I have the menu pls? " The heavyset white woman gave me an angry face and loudly shouted I don't know! I don't know ok! Ask the receptionist!

The heavyset white woman was very unprofessional, I was shocked! I hope the management knows how she treat other customers.

I'am glad that after the bad experience from the white woman, I was helped and served well by the hard working young Asian lady and the young Asian man from the kitchen. These two young Asian people works hard and make you feel welcome and has a smile on their face even they have a lot of customers.

Fran's food is delicious as usuall.

I got food poisoning after eating the Big Breakfast meal which included eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns, and pancakes. The front of house told me it would take about 10 minutes to complete. I suppose this is acceptable for breakfast but it was rushed out much sooner than expected. That should have been the first warning signs right there, but I believe the food must've been either sitting out for a while, or was reheated probably due to the early morning, and the chef just not wanting to make fresh food.

Fran's used to be better, and be a staple of Toronto's dining scene. However, I plan on never returning after this. There are better diners where they actually know how to cook and prepare their food.

Big meals, so filling. But the quality has changed. Servers were ok. Though.i ordered scrambled eggs and got sunny side up. Didnt make a big deal. Just ate them.

Wow I was surprised that this restaurant was super good! We have waited for a while to get in, seems like they‘ve been super busy since 5am. Lots of ppl and the restaurant was pretty crowded but their service was super good.
After we got the table and everything just went fast and smooth. We also didn’t wait for long time to get our food, which was a plus. Love the servers, they were nice and friendly! Fast service too!
The food we got was steak and eggs and corn beef Benedict. Both were super tasty!
The price was decent too. Def wanna go back sometimes!

Yummy comfort food at affordable price. After a long day in the hospital, I was craving some spinach feta cheese omelette. Placed a take-out order by phone at 4: 30; picked up my food at 5: 00 expeditiously. Staff was super respectful and appreciative of the work I do. Entire process was smooth, and the food was phenomenal. Will definitely be back.

Rude staff denied me access to the restaurant for having the Janssen vaccine (which is accepted by the Ontario province) and told me to get another shot.

Reply to Owner: Your story seems off as I was told to leave and when I tried to prove the vaccine was accepted the staff ignored me and left to attend a table in the patio. At no point did they tell me to wait for them to check with the manager, that is a blatant lie.

Toronto institution, but just hasn't held up to time. The fruit bowl was just sad, looked like fruit been sitting there for days. Although pancakes were acceptable.

Do to an emergency, we were in the city. I ordered food online, inadvertently from the College location. When I arrived at Victoria to discover the error, the person who I spoke with was unpleasant. When someone asks how far it is to the next place when walking, pulling down his mask to make sure I saw his entire face give me a DIRTY look to respond with pointing and go that way with a rude tone was seriously uncalled for. Clearly if I Ask how far I don't know. (It was 1km) he doesn't know another person's life I realize, rudeness is not required. If you can be anything, be kind.

Why would anyone anything but breakfast food?
This location has more of a modern vibe than its College street twin, but same consistency food wise. I only find the service here a little less organized, and the syrup hits different when it’s not coming from that sticky Frans bottle. Bring back the bottles!

Worst customer service I have ever experienced. The owner was so rude to us when we picked up our order and had the audacity to tell us to give him a tip after he was treating us so poorly. The food was not good at all. We got the grilled cheese and veggie burger and they tasted like they were made hours ago. I do not recommend this place at all.

The food was decent. Nothing special though. The service was okay. I suggest they buy new cups because their cups are always DIRTY.

Great place to get your breakfast, brunch, or any time food fix! Great portions, filling, warm, and hearty. Franz is a staple of Toronto and I'm so happy it survived the pandemic! Went on a Sunday around 2pm and did not make reservations, wait time was about 20 minute which is totally doable. Got a call once our table was ready and service was top notch. Everything felt clean and safe. Will definitely go back! 10/10! Bottomless coffee is truly bottomless haha. Had so much that day.

Is this restaurant take only one payment per table all the time? We were 4 people and we couldn't pay separately.the waitress didn't take order nor check what we need at the beginning and she rushed to clean up the table at the end. We were not happy with her behavior but the rest of waitresses and waiters were very kind to refill our coffees.
However the egg Benedicts were good

Such a warm and cozy place for brunch. Love the decorations inside. Really felt like the brunch from home. The Mushroom Benedict tasted so soft and juicy. Really amazed by the croissant omelet when they included the croissant inside the egg, what a great combination! You get a large portion with a good price. Friendly staff.

I love Fran's diner! It's an easy going place with a cute 50s diner style decor and open 24h. The menu has a wide range so there's something for everyone (vegan friendly) at a decent price. When I want food for a good price and a laid back feel this is my go to.

Great place old school diner look been coming here for the past 35years. Food, service and quality has never changed still awesome. Started bringing my kids here too

Ordered chicken waffles, veggie eggs benny, with eggs and bacon. Everything was delicious. Service was amazing and location is great after shopping at the Eaton centre.

I liked their all day breakfast offerings, taste of my food (Montreal Corned Beef hash), portion sizes, and service

We decided last minute because of the Covid-19 lock-down to order a Thanksgiving Lunch. I called first and the girl answered was very helpful. We drove downtown and picked up the meal. I took the soup and turkey meal. The soup was fantastic (harvest veg soup) and the Turkey was delicious. I love good food and give feedback only if its exceptional. Looking forward to order for Xmas. Frans delicious meal we all loved it, Please try to come to North York.

Best chicken parm in town! Fair prices and great people; I’ve never had a bad experience here or at any of their other locations. Happy to support local!

An interesting place although I found some of the food items lacking a little bit of flavor. The historical aspects do bring some nostalgic feeling to the restaurant.

Went in after 11 with a group of friends. We were given glasses of water, one of which had lipstick from a previous customer on it so it was obviously not washed and sanitized properly. They never apologized for that. Then we finish eating and the waitor didn't give anyone an itemized receipt just shoved debit machines at us. I was paying cash and he didn't even tell me how much I owed him just took my bills and moved on. Then we inquired as to why our bills were more expensive than we were expecting based on the prices from the menu only to be told after we paid that there was an upcharge for coming in after 11pm that nobody informed us about at all.

Always friendly with great prices. The food is traditional diner fare and exactly what you're looking for after a show at Massey Hall!

FRANS VICTORIA WINGS WERE UNDER COOKED, AND I FOUND HAIR IN MY WING. WE CALLED IT IN THE MAN HUNG UP AND TREATED IT LIKE IT WAS UBER EATS DRIVER FAULT WHEN THE BAG WAS SEALED FROM THE START. IM SO UNHAPPY WITH THIS EXPERIENCE AND WILL NOT BE ORDERING FROM HERE AGAIN!

Host was very clear that seating me (party of one) was a great inconvenience to him. Diffident and disinterested. Server and food were great though

Poor quality everything. The food was sub par. The service was weak, we were barely cared for. My son received a filthy glass with pink lipstick all over it. His burger patty was cold and looked like it was reheated from the previous day. My eggs were rubber. Our pop also came flat with no ice. Our server was miserable and she made it known. My eleven year old son and I were going to the theatre and this was supposed to be a special night but this was a disappointing start. I have been going to Fran's since I was a child and have been pleased with other locations. Management here clearly has dropped the ball. All the manager did was shrug his shoulders to my request and then return to doting over the single woman at a table near by. I will never go back to this location again. My grandmother who was a Fran's regular is rolling over in her grave.

Absolutely love this place. A Toronto gem that serves pancakes all day! So if you're an early riser, or a delinquent, you're sure to always get your stack!

Went there a few days ago and I must say there were a lot of menu choices for all day breakfast. Our waitress was very patient and it wasn't hard to grab her attention either. I grabbed myself a Benedict Blackstone (smoked salmon one). Water and coffee was refilled often which is great! The only thing disappointing is the fruit portions of the benedicts. Like other breakfast places, they often serve a good portion of fruit but Fran's didn't. I hope they can lessen their home potatoes, and try adding some more fruit. Otherwise, it was an awesome experience. Would love to come by again!

Very friendly staff, went in for a meal after I injured my hand and the server was kind enough to help me get the ketchup out of the bottle and onto my plate.

Ate here once years ago and didn't remember much about it, but came back for brunch with friends on a sunny Saturday in late September. It's busy, but we didn't have to wait more than a minute for a table. Standard, family restaurant/diner-ish kind of basic joint. Friendly enough service. I tried the Portobello Mushroom Benedict (two eggs with peppers, onion, cheese, hollandaise atop portobellos instead of an English muffin, with home fries & fruit). I didn't find it anything special, but had no complaints either. Definitely very filling. A friend had the chocolate chip pancakes, which she likes a lot. Overall like it here, just don't find it memorable. If I lived downtown, there are places I'd rather go, but would come back here anytime too, for simplicity.

Best Fran's in the city. When I'm downtown I always have to stop in for the Monte Cristo and the coconut cream pie fair prices and great service open all day

I used to love coming here for weekend brunch, but today while trying to enjoy my meal (I was sitting close to the host stand) I heard the manager come up to the host several times and speak to her in the most demeaning and disrespectful way. And I also heard the male manager tell several of their hosts that they don't know what they are doing and "he knows what he's doing because he knows the restaurant and they dont. " While I get running a busy restaurant can put you under pressure, it completely ruined mine and my partners experience, and cant support a restaurant that treats their employees so poorly.

Always friendly and fast service at Fran's. It's lovely how late they are opened. Never a let down when you have Fran's!

Food at Fran's restaurant was very good, staff were very friendly, service was fast and the prices were reasonable. We would go again.

4 ladies for a day on Toronto and we stopped in Frans as it was recommended by one of us. The menu items were good choices and reasonably priced. Each of us ordered something different and all the meals looked and tasted delicious. One of us ordered a strawberry shake but didn't think it had much flavor. Waitress was very friendly and efficient.

If you're looking for an imaginative greasy spoon restaurant than this is your joint. I ended up ordering the croissant omelette which is exactly as described with an omelet being draped over a croissant, I don't believe that the croissants are baked in house nor are they fresh as it looks like a store-bought croissant which is just had some egg poured over top of it. The potatoes were okay as good as any other Diner you've been to, the staff is incredibly nice. My server was named Emily and she's very nice and prompt, the management is a little bit weird as they seem to be heavily micromanaging The waiting staff there. The manager ended up actually bringing out my food.

Was there on Friday - September 21/18 & food was great but service was terrible. When my friend asked what the waitress what was the signature dish was she responded quite rude by saying that staff wasn't told about the "stats". We then requested another staff to serve us and when trying to be friendly with him we asked his name & he rudely declined to tell us. Considering this restaurant is in the main hub of downtown Toronto and across the street from St Mike's hospital.not good presentation nor welcoming place to visit.never again nor will we ever recommend this location.

Met a friend i had not seen in 9 years. We came here to chat and reminise and have breakfast. I informed the waiter we would like take up the table for the better part of 2 hrs and it was 10am.
It wasnt busy so he sat in a quiet place so we could chat. Service was great food was consistent as expected. We left satisfied with the value and quantity of food. A big thank you for giving us time to catch up.
