Not sure why the lady at the front desk was giving me a dirty look. That’s not how you treat GoodLife customers. Do better. This was around 4 pm. Good thing I won’t be coming back to this location. Shame.
Awesome place to workout! Franck is awesome, and I recommend him to anyone looking for some personal training. He has a plethora of knowledge on technique, form, and maximizing gains. They really ask great questions and make wonderful suggestions. I am genuinely surprised and happy I chose this Goodlife.
Be very careful if you go at night, on Thursday I was there and I left my backpack in the locker section like every time I go, I put a padlock and went to do my routine and when I returned I realized that someone had stolen my backpack. The worst thing is that the person in charge that night was not professional enough to help me find it. The next day they found her without my cell phone and with a theft of my credit card for 250 dollars and the only solution they gave me was to sell me a padlock that they have in the establishment
I call on the phone and they barely answer me and they ask me not to talk on the phone and that I have have to go to their place to talk.what is the point of having a phone number. Very bad impression from the first seconds on the phone. I will look elsewhere.
I was a member before becoming an associate. I ended my membership at different clubs three times before signing up here. Even though the gym is smaller than most co-ed GoodLife's in the surrounding area. Rideau has always had a great vibe and having no windows helps me stay focused on getting my workout in. I never get distracted by the outside world. The staff are always great, gym is tidy, and the member base is diverse and friendly. Personal Trainers are knowledgable, helpful and charismatic. I have worked out and worked in many GoodLife's in the city, but Rideau will always be my home club.
I’d love to compliment Bridget from the Front Desk for always being so kind, helpful and bubbly. I attend Goodlife’s Body Attack classes in the early mornings and considering that I am still half asleep and grumpy, Bridget always welcomes me, and others, with a positive attitude and smile. Definitely makes a rough morning a whole lot better!
I have had a great experience working with Dustin Brogaard. He is kind, hardworking and very knowledgable. He's a valuable asset to the Rideau Centre team!
Goodlife Rideau is my home gym because the staff know me by name and are so welcoming. Bridget at reception always gives me a nice big hotel towel. Love my good life.
The gym is pretty good in space, and even the equipment is in great condition. Just too busy in the evening time between 5 pm and 6 pm. However, the staff and trainers are friendly and professional.
Staff is nice! Always extremely helpful. The men's locker rooms are usually dirty and towels are flung everywhere. There are enough machines to go around but when it's peak time you won't find space.
A lot smaller than I remember but they definitely renovated the place since I was last here several years ago. A chunk of the space is now reserved for their personal training and their CrossFit equivalent.
If you’re visiting Ottawa, just go to Landsdowne instead. Parking here is atrocious unless you’re also doing some shopping.
Surprising to see how crowded it still gets here even during a pandemic. A little off putting tbh i know everyone wants to stretch their legs and hit the gym but they should be making an actual effort to keep the place under capacity for safety.
Other than that its always been my go to gym since its right by me, i could recommend coming by during weekdays to avoid the rush
This is a good place to workout. Pleasant environment and equipment, however when it gets crowded, you have to wait or change what you wanted to do. Despite all good factors, few closets are available, and ironically it is less than the capacity even in Covid-19 time. One time I couldn't find a closet and ask for space; they told me to carry my stuff with me, that wasn't good. Another reason that I cancel my membership is the bad behavior of some staff. After working out for 12 years, I hadn't seen such a bad attitude. Also, some personal trainers give you a hard time during the workout. You cannot go to their specific area, but they can come and use the equipment for a long time. Sometimes, several personal trainers in the main area work with their clients, and you can't find a free machine to work out.
Broken water stations for 3 months - the sign that says "maintenance" been on it for months. Very little number of lockers open - couldnt put my stuff. Not worth the money at all since its very inconvenient. No one cares. Absent management. Basically a scam
I have been a member for 17 years. When the virus hit in mid March I received an e mail stating that all automatic withdrawals were suspended and would remain suspended throughout the duration of the lockdown and would only restart if I chose to do so. I did not feel at all comfortable going to the gym. Goodlife Fitness then restarted withdrawals without my knowledge and consent. They charged me for a service that I could not use! They were sneaky and I didn't notice for a couple of months. I wrote an e mail complaining and asked for my money back. They sent me a form letter suspending my membership for 1 month knowing that the GYM IS CLOSED! The same day they took another payment from my account! I am livid. No one answers the phone or e mails and I want to cancel permanently and want every cent returned to me. I sent many e mails but absolutely no response. A terrible place. I will get my money back. I'll work out at home screw these grifters!
The staff was really good. They are taking utmost care to keep the premise clean. Additionally, the clients including me also ensured to wipe everything before and after use.
Excellent location, good hours, decent prices, lots of equipment, but it is a victim of its own success: 18-19h30 on a Monday it was stupidly packed. Its gross breathing in other people's sweat particles:/ fortunately it thinned out after 19h45. Reasonably clean given how many people cram in there like sardines.
Bought a 24 hour gym pass for there a few weeks ago for $20 (which is already way too much) and they said they wouldn't honour it. Rude manager who didn't try to help at all. Always busy and cramped in there, 10/10 would not go back.
Its a pretty clean although it gets very crowded at times. The gym lacks lots of equipment and is very small. The overall layout is terrible after the renovations.
Stay away from this gym, is the best thing you could do. Bad service, bad experience, and overall unpleasant experience when cancelling the membership. Definitely don't sign a contract with them, unless you know what you're getting into; thousands of dollars in cancellation fees, hours wasted on the phone, and emails back and forth. Great waste of my time I'd say, hopefully whoever is reading this, will avoid this trouble.
Decent Gym. Not the best GoodLife fitness I have been to. A huge space is wasted for trainer's use. Got plenty of equipments in the gym and in a good condition. Air-conditioning sucks in this place. Good crowd.
I’m surprised this gym was rated poorly. The equipment is new and clean. The place only had a less than two dozen people for a Sunday afternoon. Friendly staff. It’s one of the better goodlifes I’ve been to.
Smells really bad when it's busy. I know all gyms get stinky but this one can be next level at times. Some of the staff are super friendly but others can be aggressive with their sales tactics. The equipment is good though.
Horrible place to workout, staff are rude and dishonest. The male staff bother me every time I'm here looking for a date or quick hookup because of my career, the lockers and change rooms are gross. I've also had problems with being over charged or charged for things I didn't sign up for and getting my money back was difficult too, I will be cancelling my membership but will be expecting trouble.
A smaller goodlife location, but super clean! The staff who teach classes are also really nice and offer a lot of modifications for all levels and ages
I like this gym but I wish the music on the stereo system was quieter, especially in the evenings. 90% of my fellow gym goers have headphones on, and I don't like having to turn my music to full blast to drown out the radio. Otherwise, it's a fine facility.
Coming from out of town, the renovated GoodLife at the Rideau Centre looks great! It is bright and spacious, and reminds me of the flagship GoodLife at Burlington Mall. Locker rooms are good, did not notice any odd odors, and it really seems like the negative reviews are from rival gyms, because I saw none of what they complained about.
The only suggestion I would make is to utilise retractable crowd control barriers to cordon off the personal training area. I had no clue it was the personal training area until I looked around and wondered why nobody was working out with me! Again, contrary to another review, nobody from the staff even approached me to tell me I was working out in the wrong area, but I went and moved over to the regular squat racks anyway.
Fountains are a little far from the squat racks (unless I didn't see any closer ones?)
Brigette and megan are awesome, super nice and welcoming (as are the other staff, unfortunately i don't know everyone's name). Yes it is a tight space, but it is very clean and well kept and ultimately maximizes the space it does have.my only gripe is that i have been approached on a few occasions being told not to use chalk.i get that it can be messy or trigger allergies in some cases, but at the end of the day that's what a gym is for (in my opinion). I still go to this goodlife because of convenience, but i have to say that i strongly disagree with the no-chalk policy as it is a pretty important tool for most people doing weights.
I talked to a nice associate at the gym and I can’t wait to work out after alll the maintenance work I did now it’s time for me to get a great work out after over a year in highaduse.
Good gym but unfortunately some front staff members seem to be having a bad day and not greeting and making customers feel welcome. I've been coming to this gym for over a year now and i never minded but it seems the poor quality customer service could not rectify itself. I have decided to quit this gym first thing tomorrow morning. I have no idea if GoodLife actually reads these comments but they need to know that their customer reps aren't properly representing GoodLife fitness. I refuse to step into another GoodLife or fit4less after I quit. It was blessed but I'm done.
I visited this location for the first time to attend a fitness class and the room smelled so bad. It smelled like moldy towels or what I imagine a dead body would smell like. The stench was so overbearing, I left the class early. Also, the room layout isn't the best since there are no mirrors where the stage is, so you can't even see if you're doing moves properly. I prefer the Queen Street location!
