Halibut House Fish & Chips

The haddock with fries (and halibut as shown in the photos) worth a try. Not too oily. The corn starch over the haddock is not too thick. However, the haddock meat is loose in texture.

The coffee may have been brewed a bit long and become a bit bitter.

That said, the attendant is super attentive, friendly and diligent. I was offered a refill (free) thrice! Appreciate very much! This is also a true colour of local business.

The sunroom of the restaurant is sufficient. That offers a delightful experience in breakfast and lunch.

Awful quality, soggy, poorly battered, oily taste. Lady wasn't the nicest either.

Newmarket location was closed, so we tried Aurora. Newmarket HH is much much better.

Food was cold, took almost 45 minutes to get our our put in and 30 minutes to get it. The portions were small

Old Halibut costumers. Loved their fish, shrimps, scallops. Today we ordered take out, spent over $80 for a family dinner. Horrible. Super dry, awfully overly fried. Had to toss everything except the fries. I called to inform this as I’ve taste this food before and it used to be amazing. All they had to say was that there was a new cook… well nice explanation but that doesn’t replace my money or food! Lost a costumer. Do not try this location! Not good anymore! Still cannot believe I tossed $80 tonight here

Almost $50 for two orders of fish and chips. The fish was 1/4 of a inch thick and the fry oil is old af. Worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. All I can taste is old oil

Server treated salt like gold.
Portion smaller than usual.
Will go to other locations, that are not so stingy.

I think the price way too much for food, , quality and service l paid for. I was shocked.

Excellent menu choices, great specials. The fish and chips are excellent. The button mushroom caps were perfect. I loved them and they tasted amazing. Fast courteous service too.

The food was not fresh and tasty.
It was not cooked in fresh oil and we could not even finish our food.

Very cheap breakfast special, under $20 for 3 people. Breakfast serving was definitely enough food for the price.

Ample serving and the young lady waiting the tables was just great. I can recommend this place to anyone

I have to start with a prefix that I was there a few years back when they just opened in the area. We were a group of 8 (2 couples with 4 small children). Every single thing that we ordered came to us with some sort of problem. They also delivered our order to the table next to us and it took forever to get it all sorted out. Maybe the restaurant have figured it out now, but I have no desire to come back.

We sat outside on a cool day. They really were not setup for it. The server was good and kept checking on us. My husband had the cod which wasn't that great but I had the halibut and it was by far the better choice. The salad was ok.

The Portions are great and nice and big the Fish is always made fresh and it's nice and crispy.

I paid $5.50 for a handful of unsalted fries. I didn't try the fish because if you can't do the chips right, there's no point trying anything else.

Very very good.had the halibut which ultimately is the way you should have tru fish and chips.

The batter was tasty and the fish was awesome.

Had a side of gravy for the fries which was a nice addition.

I would go back.

If I could give this review ZERO stars, I would. Fish was refried and the chips were soggy and warm. THE worst fish & chips meal I have EVER had and will NEVER go back to this location. Save your money or order take out from across the street at State & Main - same price, huge difference. This meal was not even edible. I threw most of it in the garbage.

This restaurant is currently limited to take-out orders only. It is good value when you buy the weekly special. Portion is good size. Fish is fresh, but not as crispy as I like, that need some improvement. Fries is a large amount per order. The owner put a lot of condiments into take-out bag without you need to ask. Owner is courteous. I recommend it. It is worth the drive to get there.

This was my first time coming to this location, I am not sure if it was the end of the day, or there food is always like this, but I was not too impressed, they were exactly what I put for the stars, it was Okay.

The restaurant was clean, very bright, and the staff were very friendly.

I ordered a platter, 1 piece of fish, 3 shrimps, 3 scallops, onion rings, fries, and salad; I also ordered a side of gravy, and a piece of, Cheesecake Factory, cheesecake.

The fish and onion rings were over cooked and dry. The shrimps, scallops, and fries, were okay. The Caesar salad was very good, the cheesecake was, meh, not the best, not the worst. I was bit bit upset when I got home with the food, they had forgot to put the gravy in the bag, that gravy was over $2.00!

Like I said, they were okay, I had heard this place was good, so it might have been too close to closing, or just an off day, I will give them another try in a few weeks.

My wife and i were in Aurora and decided to try the fish and chips at Halibut House. We were both very happy with our meals. The restaurant was nice and clean, the people working here are very nice. The food was excellent fresh, hot, good portions. The price was resonable. We will be retso nurning soon. I just wish we lived closer so we could go more often.

Stopped in today for a birthday order. I might have fish & chips ONCE a year.haha

Meal was expensive for grilled shrimp, which were very small and garlic was almost non-existent. Dumped on a plate with a garden salad, that looked very unappetizing. Friend ordered sole and chips. The fish was over breaded. The fries were good. To get two pieces of fish, they had to order two meals, which was then served on two plates. Pop is served in the can, so no refills. Not awful, but not great. Probably best for takeout.

Great fish and chips, excellent service at a good price. COVID had really done a number on them, but they take it in stride! The Halibut and Haddock specials are an excellent value. Have been going since before the pandemic and will continue to be a patron long after it’s over!

Server needs to be trained more for etiquette as server, my husband ordered 2 pc halibut server commented "YOU CAN EAT 2! He just smiled said yes. After we finished she got back and for the 2nd time "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU FINISHED 2" omg

I love this place, fish and chips are great. Chips are so delicious. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because they have the packets of tartar sauce and its gross. They need to start making homemade tartar sauce!

Nice friendly service would like all staff to wear masks over nose at all times even when eating take mask off not under chin but food well cooked

Talk about breaking the rules, I just walked out after watching the cook speaking into the food as she prepared it, NO MASK AND SPEAKING INTO THE FOOD. Stay away it's not safe during covid.

Our family had a great evening eating at Halibut House. The service was fantastic and their food was even better. The fries and gravy was a real hit. We’ll be back for sure!

First time ordering here and the last! Both of us were ill all night. Fish was dry and tasteless should have known then. To add to the awfulness they don’t even serve with real tartar sauce and if it is real it the worst looking stuff I’ve ever seen. Avoid here. I thought I was safe by the reviews it had clearly the bad ones are correct.

I had breakfast there and the meal was cooked fast and well. The server was friendly and came to check on me a few times. I didn't try anything else there yet but I would definitely recommend the bacon and eggs that I had.
