Halibut King Fish&Chips

No complaints on the fish and chips but I think the tartar sauce is worth more than gold, I always say alot of tartar and get 2 packs for 2 halibut, I used to give a few bucks tip and go out of my way to ask for more than 2 packs and I would get 3. Now, no tartar no tippy.

I work around the corner & thought I would try it on my half hour lunch. I mentioned I only get half an hour but still did not count getting it on time to eat much. The lady at the till made sure I got it soooo fast. The portions were huge & although made fast it was well cooked & tasty. She also gave me enough condiments & tartar. Very happy & I will be going here often in the future

Very tasty food I would recommend everyone to try atheist one, and you would keep going. And also very good customer service.

Absolutely the best fish n chips place in Durham, where else can you get ten pieces of huge halibut, large pile of fries, large plate of onion rings, coleslaw and gravy for under $100.

We have been getting fish and chips here for years. Service and food has always been excellent.
Today I had an extremely rude guy on phone. When my husband went to pick up the order he asked who had taken the order and the guys working there laughed at him. When he asked what was funny they laughed even more. Needless to say he walked out and we will never be back.
If there are new owners/employees they need some customer service training

Very disappointed. The fish was really greasy. It's back to Halibut House Simcoe North. I gave the food one star because the salad was good.

I wanted to grab a quick bite. Saw this place while driving by and decided to stop in. I definitely was not disappointed. This is a hidden gem in Whitby. One of the best fish n chips I have had in a long time. Will definitely be back when I am in the area

Great fish and chips. Waitress friendly. The atmosphere was great. Loved the nautical theme on the ceiling. Eating with the fish. Will definitely be going back.

King Special fish dinner is excellent as is everything. I especially love their breakfast menu.

Horrific service - just so rude & negligent. Food is greasy and not flavourful. The fish come in crusty, thick batter, the taste of old oil is so strong. Not going back.

Decent fishnchips, large serving sizes and great customer service. Indoor interior is also nice, which made me tempted to eat inside. I would recommend checking out this place as it has some great deals.

My friends and i have been ordering poutines on our lunches for about 2 years.one day we go in after paying for our food and we sit down to eat when we were then told we weren’t allowed to sit down inside because “the seats are for people spending more money” it is ridiculous that they treat younger kids this way because they feel they have some authority over young people.other customers got angry with them and left with us.to buy food then be treated as if i am not a paying customer is crazy

Good fish and chips, but they always skimp out on the tartar sauce even after requesting extra. How am I supposed to eat 2 large halibut and fries with a couple tartar sauce packs?

They changed their halibut it tastes not good but it was their attitude when I called to tell them that was disappointing.

If you are okay being charged PER PACK of tartar sauce that you request over maybe 3 packs, this is the place for you! The woman individually counted each extra pack I requested, to ensure she would charge me $1 per pack.she counted 1 by 1 as she put them in my bag saying "1,2,3" She eventually got frustrated and just handed me the bag. Not somewhere I will ever spend my money again.

Great fish but I hate being shorted food. Ordered a dinner for 3 which comes with 6 pieces.only 4 in the box. Not a huge deal but when you are planning out dinner for the family and expect enough to feed the kids and you cant it ruins mothers day dinner.

We have been long time customers and always enjoyed the halibut dinners. Last week sunday we picked up halibut diner for 2.when we returned to our car, we noticed it was smelling extremely fishy. This was very strange, we never experience this before.we got home, started to eat it and just could not continue eating it.we put it in the garbage outside. We phoned the owner and made him aware of our experience. One may say, we should have taken it back, lets face it, we don't think the owner would admit that he served us haddock instead of halibut.for those that don't know, haddock is a very high smelling cheaper fish. Our car still smells like fish.we paid $46.00 for smelly fish.we do not plan to be a customer in the future. W&M

Good fish and chips, up until the recent price increase it was a good deal. Now it's pretty average.

I was able to phone my order head of time and my order was ready for the scheduled time. The fish was delicious and not heavy battered, and the French fries were done to perfection

You will not get any better tasting or made, Halibut & fries. The seniors special is perfect!

This is the Best Fish and Chips I've had since I was in England 7 yrs ago. I will definitely be back. Very good value for your Money. Halibut King is my new go to spot for fish/chips. Crispy batter, great fries, old school garden salad. Works for me every time. Try this place, won't disappoint. Excellent rice pudding as well!

Picked up a Halibut dinner for 2 on Good Friday, and was very pleased. Because it was likely the busiest day of the year for them, they were not accepting pre-orders, so it was first come/ first served. The line moved much quicker than I expected, and I was impressed by the organization and efficiency of ordering. The fish was good, and so were the chips - and the portions were very reasonable too. Although it wasn't quite as good my favourite F&C place in town, it was about $13 cheaper for the equivalent meal of 4 halibut & chips. And a small side of gravy for $1 was money well spent too. Overall, very pleased! I've heard they serve a very good bang for your buck burger here too that I plan to come back and try.

I went for lunch pickup today as I often do (almost weekly for the last year or more) because I work in the area. I ordered the Haddock special and when it was ready I asked for 3 each of ketchup, vinegar and tartar sauce. The man working there told me that was too much and 1 order should only get 1 of each sauce. When I said that I always get 3 of each he said that extra sauce should be 25 cents more each. I'd understand being only allowed 2 but for a big meal 1 sauce is not enough. I didn't like his attitude about it. The food is good but Idon't know if I will be going back there again.

We have been going this restaurant for awhile, at least a monthly basis because food is good. Until.

We went last year to dine in and was greeted by a rude and zero customer service experience. Due to Covid-19 we were asked for our info for contact tracing purposes. As soon as we said 416 area code she suddenly flipped out stating that other restaurants in Durham are not serving out of towners. I politely ask that we can leave or not serve us but she insisted. As soon as she turns around to grab our drinks she keeps mumbling and I again said she did have to serve us or we can leave. She still insisted. And then she goes and shared to another patron that we are not from Durham. I believe that regardless she shouldn't have told the other patron who is also dining in. Fast forward to 2021 she is still serving food and still rude. I know because we went back to order take out because we missed the quality of food We will NOT ORDER and NO longer recommended this place. Nothing was done even though it was brought up to the manager and owner.

We have your fish and chips as a special treat the value you get for dinner of three is outstanding. I believe your the best fish and chips in town. Keep strong during this pandemic time you offer a night off cooking for our family. Good job!

I have never had a bad experience here. Food is always really good and tasty and the staff have always been very kind

Just picked up an order of shrimp and a piece of halibut. Both were perfectly cooked. Would love if they delivered or used a delivery service. Would probably order weekly.
