You would expect a small credit union to have good customer service but they can’t even get someone to answer the phone. Expect to have no one answer the phone when you call due to “high covid volume” 2 years after covid has ended. Do not recommend.

Exceptionally frustrating trying to contact the credit union. They seem to have gotten rid of the receptionists, and no one answers the phone. The hours are a joke, the latest they are open is until 6pm on a Tuesday, no weekend hours anymore. Totally inaccessible for a lot of members.

Customer service from the banking branch at HMECU continues to decline and has been since January 2020. On the other hand, service from the investment branch is satisfactory. Recently, I submitted questions & comments to both info@ and support@, but only received out-of-office alerts from 2 staff and no acknowledgement or response to my questions or comments. The website says they want our feedback, but that appears to be nothing more that smoke & mirrors. After a lot of digging, I did find info that helped to answer some of my questions. Due to the poor customer service I have experienced on several occasions over the past 3 years, the funds I will begin to receive soon when my RRSPs are rolled into RRIFs will be transferred to another institution where I am actually receiving customer service.

Can only rate them a 1 because I can't go any lower. Terrible business practices, CAUTION DO NOT LOCK your investments with them as it will be hard getting them out. Fees are astronomical towards SENIORS. Front line staff are only doing their job can't blame them, massive turn around of leaving going to other institutions. Good Luck. Switch to Meridian better rates & Customer Service. Aug. 2023 attended HMECU for a hardship matter regarding repairs for our home, both my wife and I were refused to obtain our money from our investment account. Once again MERIDIAN came to the rescue.
Update: It's been several days now since we have not heard a reply after their response from them via email or by phone. GOOD LUCK. This is the way they treat seniors, my wife a hospital employee on disability and myself a soon to be retired police employee. We have posted pictures of our situation and still they refuse to help us with our hardship matter. We will be patient until the New Year when all our investments come due as well as our Mortgage. People should come first not the money get your priorities straight HMECU.

Service has steadily been declining the last 6 years. Sat in traffic today for an hour for something that could've easily been done over the phone but no one answers the lines

The staff are nice but, the credit union is now now open on weekends and at the most till 6: 00. If I just wanted to do online banking I would have signed up for a virtual bank.

If you want a bank that can listen to you beyond inputting numbers and telling you the result that a computer produces, visit this bank. There is almost no line up and people are actually happy to see you and even know your name. Michael from the Brantford location treated us like humans not numbers. He was patient, got past the usual numbers and came up with an excellent solution to our request. This bank was recommended to us and we recommend it!

I was having difficulty setting up my new debit card. I called online support who listened to me to the details of my issue. They transferred me to Brenda in member services. She was so pleasant and helped me get my issue resolved. In addition, she also suggested a different member package that was more suited to my needs. This actually gave me a reduction in my monthly fee. Excellent customer service with a personal touch!

I rated a 4 star for the customer service I received. If it wasn't for her patience and knowledge I would still not know how to do this. The lack of useful step by step instructions was mind boggling. I thought the first time we did an exercise like this was confusing but you should been able to make it easier this time. It was to get in there were so many clients on line. Thanks to your service reps
my sanity was saved.

I have had a great experience banking at the HMECU for the past 10 years. Initially, I was brought in from my father but then stuck around after receiving excellent customer service over the years. There's something nice about being part of a small bank - knowing they know me personally feels really good.

Brenda has been exceptional at ensuring my banking needs are met always so thanks goes out to her specifically for being so great!

Absolutely everyone goes above and beyond to assist! They are responsive and super helpful. Every time I have had a question or concern or simply looking for advice the team at HMECU is there and consistently awesome! Thank you for being amazing!

I've been a member with HMECU for over 40 yrs and happy to say, all staff over the years have been helpful and understanding. Whether it's the new technology or simply a repeat question, everyone is helpful and not just the upfront staff, but also Brenda in reception is very patient with me like when I call about even the silliest of mistakes I may have done, she calmly helps me fix it.

I’ve banked with HMECU since 2012 and would never go back to a big bank. Credit Unions are by far superior. Low monthly fees. Caring staff- really feels like they are there for you. You can also access your money from any other Credit Union bank machine.

My self and other members of my family have been trying to get ahold of someone at the Credit Union for over a week now. They will not even call us back. This is the worst costumer service I have ever seen. Terrible service.

I have become totally frustrated with the new poor level of service. In the last few years they have gone from excellent to a negative rating. Staff continue to be good in person, but trying to get through via phone or email is a complete disaster. No one calls you back or you are disconnected on the phone. As for free member benefits, like cheques being over 60, this is now gone. Also trying to transfer money out be prepared to be gouged with above average fees. Maybe when a new CEO is hired, things may improve. Might be time to bring back Charlie who's leadership they flourished under.

Every time you call noone answers. They still have the messaging, "Due to Covid" etc etc. Since they changed into this new system, the customer service sucks. Oh and when you go in they will charge you now.no staff at the counter

If I could give negative stars, I would. This bank has gone downhill. I’ve called for days to try and reach someone and have not been contacted. I’ve left voicemails, I’ve reached out through email and no one has replied. The only way to get a reply is to tell them you’re leaving their institution. Taking my services elsewhere.
