Mel's Diner

Mel's is my go-to. Literally never had a bad meal here and they're menu has tons of options (including gluten free and vegan).

Great all day breakfast. The Hungry Mel is a lot to eat if you are hungry, and the 3 lb burger challenge looks hard. They also have a juke box.

My wife and I walked in Mel's Diner today for lunch and of course had to show ID and paper of our shots, then we were sat down. A friendly waitress came & served us, she served in nice fashion and was quick & friendly with a smile, I can imagine by end of day she and everyone working there will be tired & ready to go home. Anyone working on there feet usually is. Best to everyone in this field of work take care and be safe you ya!

Well it's been over 10 years since my last visit. I ordered the basic Bacon and 2 eggs with a coffee. 10 years ago I paid $5.00 plus my 2oonie tip. Well the eggs weren't what I had asked for plus the home fries were under cooked. Coffee was cold wasn't asked if I'd like a refill. $15.00 with the coffee and I noticed the price on the menu said $4.99 so I assume the 1 coffee cost me $10.00 plus I still gave her a 2oonie tip. Was very disappointed. Not sure if I'd even want to go back. I'm sure I will tho. Gotta give them a chance to redeem my faith in them.

One word for it is - awesome. The food is awesome, the vibe is awesome and the service is awesome too. Loved the whole old Hollywood 50s and 60s classic theme. They even made the post covid booth separation curtains turned to old Hollywood iconic scene posters. The staff makes sure that you feel warm welcome and personlizes the experience by sharing friendly chat with you. Must visit if you are visiting the neighborhood.

Decided to try Mel's this morning and I'm glad I did. Service was fast & attentive, food was fresh and so good. The prices are very good for the amount of food that I got.
They have a huge menu with vegan and gluten free options, which is awesome.
I will definitely be back!

They need to fire their cook.ordered eggs Manhattan and they were disgusting for the price that I paid 26 bucks. First time there last time there.

All the staff are always very lovely and cordial. It's an extra nice feeling when they remember our orders, and make us feel as welcome as possible.

Ordered the hot Turkey with fried onions. Turkey was cold fried onions were raw. Turkey was tasteless. Told the server when she asked how it was going and she said well
At least you will know better next time. There will not be a next time

Friendly staff, great service and delicious food! The staff welcomed my dogs on their patio and provided water, treats and pets! It really created a friendly vibe during my brunch with my friends (in which I was running late and had my dogs with me). Definitely coming here again!

Heard some great reviews so I was very excited to go. It was a big letdown because service was very slow. Had take out, but no utensils or condiments were given. We had Mel's Favourite assuming it was "the favourite" but turned out to be a very sad plate. The potatoes were very bland and dry. The vegan skillet with mushrooms only had about 3 pieces of mushroom in it, also dry. The toast was meh. No flavor whatsoever. For the price, I honestly expected more.it was unappetizing and just didn't taste good.

It has been 2 years since when we ate at mels, The menu is always the same, they should change it, with all new and exciting choices. The cook made a mistake made me the wrong skillet, But the one they made a mistake on i got for free:) Lesley was A really nice server and we gave her a nice tip.

Service was fast, pleasant and attentive with the right amount of small talk.

Hot turkey sandwich and fish and chips.
Chips/fries are coated or breaded, crispy and hot is all the good I can say. Mealy and bland.
Fish was okay. Hot, properly cooked.
Turkey sandwich… at first I though it was deli meat. I think it might be from a glued log. The meat was dry and tough. It came on one slice of bread with a couple/3 tablespoons of turkey gravy. (A Paltry amount) The gravy (extra $2) for the fries was ‘beef’ something brown and salty but lacked the beef taste and texture of gravy.
This isn’t diner food.

Revisit for a breakfast,? , we enjoyed every bit of it, my kids love it! Hood food and really nice service,

The food was simple but good and very fresh, prices reasonable, the guy at the door was very friendly and professional. The waitress was not very friendly, seemed as if it was a bother to serve us.

If you choose to pay by card, the tip is calculated on top of tax so a 15% tip is more like 18%. I feel this is a bit deceptive hence the 3 stars otherwise it would have been 4

Been so long since we went to Mel's and I am so glad it has not changed. The meal and service was amazing:)

Had the LA chicken sandwich with sweet fries. The place was clean and played classic 80s music.great place to get some.comfort food and hang with friends. The milkshakes are great!

Good size options. I had the Pweet Potatoes Benedict and the hollandaise sauce was creamy and smooth. Super yummy.

Friendly staff (although post COVID are mostly not the same staff which we miss!) Good food, always fresh and the coffee is always full in your cup.

Food is always great tasting, service is fast and friendly. Can be pricey compared to other breakfast places. I like the whole retro diner theme personally it has a relaxing atmosphere.

The food is delicious and flavourful. I just learned they have non-dairy ice cream and sundae options which is awesome and I can’t wait to try it!

This would have been a 5 star review if it wasn't for one thing. The food is delicious and well made but on every order we place they forget atleast 1 thing. From straws for a milkshake, the gravy for the poutine, and the cheese for the poutine. Come one guys, you taste great but work on that memory. I don't think I'll order again as it's disappointing to not get the food you order.

One of our favourite local restaurants! The food is always hot and delicious, no matter what we order! Although some favourites include the vegan milkshakes and the cinnamon roll pancakes!

Food and service is always amazing here! Jasmine. Im pretty sure thats her name (and love her tatoos as well) is amazing server! As long as we have been coming here she has worked here!

This was the first place we went for breakfast after this super long lockdown. The service was great. They accidentally made a mistake on the milkshake and fixed it no issues. The food is good, what you expect from breakfast. I like the roasted potatoes because they are very crispy.

Amazing take out and service! The owner kind and welcoming. We ordered over the phone and picked up our yummy food within 15mins. Would recommend.

The portion size has reduced by almost half. Last time I ordered I got all the way home and opened the bag to realize they for got my $7 dessert. I not only had to go all the way back across town but once I returned the Manager gave me a hard time about it and wasn't even offered a refund on the dessert for compensating me for driving all the way across town.again. I always loved going there (Pre Covid) but definitely has new owners now and has done graded in quality, portion sizes, accuracy and courtesy.
It's too bad, but this 7 years customer will never be a Mel's customer again.

I was really looking forward to good omelet. I’m pregnant and I was craving one. Imagine my disappointment when I found a hair in the middle of it. The girl was really nice and brought me a brand new one. Normally I wouldn’t leave a review for one mistake but then I found another hair in that new omelet! Like come on guys. You really need to take a look inside your kitchen. My appetite was gone at that point. The only saving grace was I was not charged for this meal. Take a look at your policies for health and safety inside your kitchen.

I ordered chicken fingers and fries yesterday and usally it great and all but i experience food poisoning from it yesterday was very unhappy. Usually its great but i dont know what happened.

Great food and good portions, classic diner interior and great service. Also a bigger menu selection than most diners.

They have a creative menu and pretty good prices. Most the waitresses are personable and work well. I also love the old diner atmosphere in this bar! Lost a star for smaller portions and overcooked food. Otherwise not bad for a brunch

The power went out when we were there but Mel's Diner obviously can't do anything about that, but the staff handled the situation very professionally. Luckily it was only out for a minute or so.

Mel's an institution in the region, continues with quality service and comfortable diner classics in these times.

So much tasty food at reasonable prices. I always enjoy the wide variety of breakfast choices. Monday's are their burger specials.including gluten free and vegan food.

Gotta love Mel's! Atmosphere is good, food is good and service is always good. This is a favourite hangout.

We had a great time here. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to our family. Over all it's a great place to eat.

Would NEVER go again, despite very nice staff, the food leaves A LOT to be desired, and for what you're getting, your paying a ridiculous amount of money, I've never left any diner hungry before, until Mel's Diner. So unless you value 50s decor over good food and good value for the food, its not worth the trip. (and I live across the street)

The food is hit or miss, as is the service. Have come here and had excellent service and excellent food. Last time I was there was my last. Had horrendous service, the server was slow, rude, very obnoxious and messed up both of our 2 meals. Proceeded to make crude sexual jokes about our undercooked soggy breakfast sausage. We asked to speak to a manager as the meals were both wrong, one came out 20 minutes before the other and was still not even GOOD. She told us there was no manager and she couldnt discount or refund the food. It's not the money spent that was the issue, but the terrible service. Have never had such brutal service at any restaurant.

We had a brief wait for a table, which is to be expected on a Sunday morning. Our waitress, whose name escapes me, was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was overall quite good, and the radio playing oldies really helped the vibe feel more alive in a retro kind of way. The price was good as well, and we will quite likely be back again.

The breakfast is superb, as are the sandwiches and fries. I enjoy the 50's diner vibe this establishment possesses. 4 stars because I ordered delivery once and they stated between 45-50 minutes. They delivered within 20 minutes and this was a bit of an inconvenience as I was balls deep in my girlfriend at the time.

Not sure why they serve on small plastic plates now? Pefer the traditional white China plate where the food was not stacked - smaller portions and higher prices - nice

I love the "old diner" environment this place has. Food is good, but service is slow some times. And we always have to wait at least 20 minutes. All in all, I still think it's worth and like coming here.

The food was hot, tasty and perfectly cooked. The staff were friendly and hardworking and the decor and atmosphere were fun:)

A nice diner but service was a bit slow despite it being a Saturday and you'd kind of expect a bit faster service. When we arrived there was a line, but many tables were empty and we still had to wait 15 mins to be seated. I had the LA club which was tasty and the fries crispy. My daughter had the BLT and was very happy with it.

I went here once, and you best believe I'm gonna come back. The staff is great, but the food is amazing.

Mel’s Diner is well price! They have recently have added Chicken wings to the menu and from I am hearing they are very tasty! But I will state I have had they club house sandwich with fries and it the best in Waterloo Region by far! Their ceased salad is also AMAAAAAZZZZING! My wife on the last visit had their Cinnamon French toast and she loved it! Heck I tried and I don’t like French toast but I will tell you this I would eat as it was tasty! So to put it simple everything I’ve tried here been yummy in my tummy and it not broken the pocket book.either! Staff is also amazing! Will also advise you can also order from them on Skip the dish app which I ve also done and just as amazing!
