Napanee Fish & Chips

I've been looking for a restaurant like this place for a while,
Food, was fish and chips, excellent fish, excellent chips (real chips!) Not bagged ones.
Cooked to perfection! Buttery texture inside, crispy on the outside.
Service, excellent! Just the humor, and get OT done attitude.
Looking forward to the next stop in try other menu options.
Ps dessert was real! Not a box dessert!

Ordered takeout. The person taking orders by phone was friendly but curt and dismissive. This created an uncomfortable interaction that did not welcome additions to the order or providing information about allergies.

Food was good. The small Greek salad was a good size. Food was prepared quickly and was easy to pick up. But the service left much to be desired.

Did not eat in so unable to give a reasonable review of the atmosphere.

Great food. Huge portions. Awesome service. Wonderful atmosphere! Our go to Friday night dinner spot.

The fish and the batter were greasy and mushy. Worst meal ever. What a waist of $25 and a good tip even though I picked it up. Never again

I came in here a few weeks ago. I was treating my Mom to dinner as it was her birthday. We ordered at the takeout window and im guess it was the owner we dealt with. The owner yelled at me about if i did not want to tip i didnt have to. I am very short so i was trying to read the options for tipping i always tip. Then im sitting down waiting for our food my 10 year old son was only looking over the counter to watch them make the food again owner yells at my son to sit down. I have never been to a place that gets mad at a child for watching. Next was an order was ready i was told it was mine so i went to grab it again im being yelled at that its not my food and going over what i ordered im sorry i was told it was mine and i cant see in the containers. I also felt very bad for the empolyee he was also yelling at. The food was good but the owner is very rude to customers. There was no need or reason for it at all. Not a good first impression. I will not be returning

Very disappointed.drove in from Belleville on Sunday. Website said open at 11am on Sunday. They weren't open. Waste of a trip. Please if you advertise open on Sunday 11am till 2pm you should be there.

Very disappointed.came in last Sunday for lunch, while away on vacation. Seated quickly and looked over menu. I ordered Haddock, and my husband ordered Shrimp. Waitress comes back with a menu and says they're out of Haddock. I choose Hot Turkey sandwich, She comes back again to say they are out of turkey! I (jokingly) asked if there was anything else they were out of.waitress says " oh, and we don't have wraps or peameal bacon". The other items I had mentioned to my husband looked good.
Paid for our coffee and left.

Edit to add.it was mainly NOT being told what they were out of.bad waitress, not the meal options.if I was told all that they were out of at the beginning. I would have picked from something they did have!

Disgusting! We had all you can eat Cod tonight. First piece WASNT COD, it was pale opaque, falling part, fish inside the batter. I take my batter off. Second piece was Cod, took over twenty minutes to get second piece, it was ordered as soon as first was put down. The place had five tables! Wasn’t busy. I think our first piece of fish was talapia. Ripped off, terrible food.

Great service and food! Greek salad, fish, and burgers are so good! Fresh cut fries are the best in town

We just had dinner (halibut and chips). Service was quick, food came out quickly, appropriately priced, large portions and hot. Friendly service and good good.
Well worth the stop (we were passing through).

I tried here for the first time and it was a takeout. The customer service was excellent, as my primary school teacher would smile better than the lady at the desk. The food portion was huge with fries, but it was an average experience. I will definitely be back in the next millennium.

Receive very full dishes. All you can eat fish on Wednesdays. Good and hot food. Hot roast beef sandwiches are stacked high with beef and gravy.

Absolutely delicious food and wonderful service! A gem that is just off the main street. We will definitely be back. Oh, they also have homemade pie!

First off I have nothing negative to say about the food, it was and always Is phenomenal, I've been going here since I was a small kid.

However, this time I went I ordered 4 dinners, and got a bill that was outrageous in comparison to any other chip place I have been to in quinte. I have never been to a fish and chips place that charges you extra for coleslaw with your chips. Then I go to pay and they charge me an additional 3% for paying with credit? The customer service and pricing just leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. I won't be coming here again for a while

The Boss burger combo is a must have. Can't wait to go again, definitely good value for the price!

Family owned and operated, you won't be disappointed. This place is clean, updated and their service is fast and friendly. Food is amazing. The fish is a large portion so you won't leave hungry!

I’ve eaten here many times with both my grandparents and friends. But the last couple times staff have seemed very short and rude. My grandparents called in to ask about dining room time as I was to be off work at 7: 30pm and they wanted to have dinner all 3 of us. They told me the man on phone (assume its the owner) was extremely rude, cut him off, and after telling him no dine in at that time hung up on him. They tell me they will not be coming back, and if thats how you treat customers asking a simple question neither will I.

Great waitress and food is amazing!
I would love to ask 1 small improvement, please make senior (or child) portion as at our age we hate to waste food and the portions are for when I was in my 20's.
To solve this the waitress supported us to share a meal and trust us IT WAS MORE THAN ENOUGH!
Great fish, perfectly cooked and clean environment - they deserve the 5 stars and - we WILL return!

Ordered a fish burger, came with fresh lettuce and tomato. The fish (haddock, I believe) was quite large, hot and delicious. I would've liked a little more tarter sauce, but that's personal preference. It was pricey, but worth it. Would recommend!

The food was good and the portions were generous but the service was questionable. I asked what was the difference between haddock and halibut and the lady answered “the taste”…

Stopped in for dinner after an afternoon ride exploring backroads, took a minute to get seated as the servers were busy running food, but was seated without any issues. Had my drink order taken by who I think was the owner, and then had my order taken when my drink arrived, food came in a timely manner, and came hot and fresh. Batter was nice and crispy and the fish was a nice balance of tender and flakey. Fries were cooked with a nice amount of crisp to them, and it came with a generous portion of slaw as well. Ordered a rice pudding for dessert, which came chilled with whipped cream and cinnamon on top, which tasted pretty good. All in all, food was good, service was fairly good and friendly, and the atmosphere was nice. Will be back, and I definitely recommend checking here out if you haven't before

Best food I have had in years. Everything was delicious and fresh! We had the hot hamburger and the crispy chicken wrap. Amazing! We will definitely be going back.

Great food, Great service. Follow all safety protocol. Amazing weekly deals. Worth a stop for some Fish & Chips if your in the Napanee area. Oh almost forget- Awesome Lemon Pie and Rice pudding.

Very greasy and the fries were very over cooked. Disappointed as we were recommended to try and we didn't like it at all.

Stopped in on a whim today! So glad we did! Fantastic amount of well cooked fish and chips! We will definitely be back! 5 stars

I have ate many times here and the food is very good. But today on Good Friday I was insulted when they added a 20% tip to my bill. I always tip good and I do not like an establishment that assumes I will not tip. I never ever tip on top of tax, always on the cost of the meal and drinks. Today is the last day that I will ever darken their doorstep to eat. When someone assumes that I may not think enough of their service to charge me 20% they are greatly mistaken. There is no excuse for that COVID or no COVID. I will will tell all the people that I have ever told to go there, which are many, about this experience. Shame on you who every owns this place to do that to people.

I change my ratings for my the owner made negative comments. We as Indigenous people we carry utility knives. The owner made racial comments that we probably use the knives to scalp ppl. Three ppl were at the table so this is not a racial card comment. I had respect for the owner before but I won't be going back again.

Portions are quite large. Bailed the staff out of a no-show order, didn't feel like they really appreciated it. It's a minor thing but when some random guy picks up an abandoned order for like $70 you would have otherwise been stuck with, it'd be nice to show a bit of gratitude.

Saw the pic of the chicken souvlaki and couldn’t stop thinking about it. Went in, had lovely service, and stuffed myself. Rice, Greek salad, two skewers of grilled chicken and tzaziki. Delish.
Have also indulged in their halibut fish and chips and it send me home happy as well.

One of the best fish and chip dinners I've had. Owner was also the waitress and I've never laughed so hard at a restaurant. Be sure to stop here and check it out!

My husband and I and 4 other family members ate at this amazing place last Saturday. The food, sevice, portions, staff and prices are incredible. Our server was amazing and we had a great chat with the owner as well. Extremely friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend you to check out this place. You will not be disappointed.

Haven't been here in well over a year or so, but decided to give them another try today with some friends. Still somewhat disappointed with the fish. Not sure if the fish sits in water until it's ready to be battered and it just doesn't get drained well enough, but it had a spot where it was very watery. Otherwise cooked quite well. The Greek salad I got with it was rather soaked in dressing and quite limp, not sure if the lettuce was fresh. Have to say they were quite attentive though in asking how the food was, as they are aware that they have gotten some bad reviews and say they are trying to improve. Maybe bad mouthing the owner of Mr Chips the original Owner of Napanee Fish and Chips in front of customers in your establishment, would be a start to improving business? Just sayin'
I think I'd order a sandwich next time, if we return. One reason we haven't come in a while is because we'd been told as a large group coming from church as we did many Sunday's that they wouldn't accommodate us sitting together, a couple years back, and then started putting a charge on the bill for large groups, that ended us all going. Just thought I'd explain why you lost a lot of our business as a whole. Hopefully things have changed in this regard. Saw today you allowed a fairly large group to sit together. Happy to see that. Hope they don't incur that group charge!

Fantastic best fish and chips east of the GTA. Never a bad meal. You won't leave hungry, everything on the menu is good. Very clean and inviting.

This place came recommended. Took out a haddock and chips 2 weeks ago. The meal was good and no complaints there. The ordering process was extremely uncomfortable. The server at the counter was unfriendly and definitely had no smile during ordering or delivering the final goods. I felt unwelcome and probably will not visit them again.

Great food, reasonably priced, huge servings! 5/5 for food! 1/5 for friendliness. Go if you are hungry, because it truly is the best fish and chips; looking for gratitude, kindness, appreciation and things that earn guest loyalty? Pass.

Great Burgers and Greek salad but my guests were not to happy with their fish and chips. They thought they were over cooked and oily or maybe time to change the oil.

Fish was very good. Server made a special effort to make sure my 97 year old mom was looked after, that makes our experience worthwhile. Big portions, go with an appetite. Busy spot.

Very good fish and chips, the portion of the fish is large and very tasty. Light batter that doesn’t over power the fish which is nice. The chips are also proper chip shop style. I also the calamari which was a pleasant surprise, very good. Give the place a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Great fish restaurant. The portions are huge and tasty. The place is very clean and neat inside. The menu selections are very appealing and a great variety. Each day of the week has a different special. My favorite is Wednesday as it's All you can eat COD. The staff are courteous and friendly. Put this one on your next fish night you wont be disappointed.

Ever since York Road Diner closed, the search was on for the best burger I have eaten. I have accomplished it HERE! Fantastic Grand Daddy (Gerard Diddy inside joke) burger. Best I have eaten. Can't wait to take the gang here. Our experience has always been excellent thanks to Brian, his friendly staff and the fantastic food they create.

We usually stop for a break on the 401 at the enRoute stops which is never that great but this place was a great find and the fish and crispy chips were terrific!

Great local place to get good food. Not just fish either. They make amazing burgers. Haven't tried the Lance Burger yet but if your hungry then it will definitely do the trick. The amazing regular burgers are fantastic.

The place to go for fish and chips in Napanee! Always fresh, huge pieces of fish, lightly battered, never greasy. Friendly staff, excellent service, and daily specials. Stop in, you won't be disappointed!
