Food and service where good. Only issue is the music. Depressing Radiohead played the entire time I was there, and it was loud. Seemed to be played for a particular employee.
We first came here because we learned they fry everything in tallow! Far better for you than seed oils (vege, canola etc), and the taste is better too. I do think the first time we visited - right as they opened for dinner - was the best visit. The fish wasn’t too greasy, fries were good. Since then we’ve visited a couple more times, some visits it felt a bit greasy with differing levels of batter.
That being said, still enjoy coming here. The service is so friendly, and love the atmosphere and unpretentious vintage decor.
Fish and chips is a classic dish that I hold near and dear to my heart. The perfect combination of fried fish, crispy fries, and tangy tartar sauce is hard to resist.
Sea Witch Fish and Chips boasts a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. The main staff members were knowledgeable and helpful, but I suspect the person who was battering and frying the fish that day may have been new to the job.
Their menu offers four different types of fish: halibut ($26), haddock ($17.50), trout ($18), and pickerel ($19). Although I typically prefer white fish, I decided to try the pickerel, and I was pleasantly surprised by the well-seasoned fish, despite the thick batter. The fries were decent, but a bit inconsistent in texture.
While my experience at Sea Witch Fish and Chips was good, I believe there is room for improvement. I would be willing to give it another try if I were in the area. Overall, I would give Sea Witch Fish and Chips a 3.5 out of 5 rating.
A nice and quaint restaurant, with great service.deeply enjoyed our meal, the fries are fresh, the fish was of good quality and the portions were generous compared to other places serving the same menu and similar price points.a bit oily but nothing you wouldn’t expect out of fish & chips.
Came in Friday afternoon and it was a delight we had kids with us and didn't feel at all an inconvenience. Delicious fish n chips. We had mushrooms too, the onion rings and the delicious chowder
Food was A+ and very fresh. Coleslaw wasn't too creamy or vinegary, was well balanced The horseradish fill sauce was a great little $2 add Loved the wooden benches and even spoke with the owner, very nice guy! Will be back soon.
We got haddock and fish takeout. Large portions with honestly the best haddock I've had so far in the city as well as the best chips. Staff was super nice too.
The pickerel with chips was so good! Definitely a 10/10. I flew all the way from Italy and I couldn’t find a better place to have fish a chips! Grace was the best and Kevin tartar sauce was phenomenal?
We bought some haddock and halibut. The portions are humongous apart from the halibut which was quite small but that maybe how it’s portioned. Our order was made quickly so we didn’t have to wait too long as we ordered take-out! Best fish and chips in the city IMO!
We were craving fish and chips and this place popped up as the best fish and chips in town. While the service were good, we traveled to mid town for fish and chips which we thought was good but nothing exceptional. For the price we paid, it didn't feel like it was worth the value and rather oily and greasy. Is it good fish and chips? Yes - freshly fried and served. Is it the best in town - didn't feel like it.
Great service and a nice atmosphere. I found the fish too battered for my liking, but the fries in the poutine were great. Onion rings were also too battered for me.
The fish is good and that’s about it. Customer service definitely needs some work, even greeting customers when they walk through the door makes a huge difference. The restaurant is dark and dingy, as others have mentioned. First time here, we spent about $60. The poutine is okay, hardly any gravy though, halibut cakes aren’t good and the tartar sauce has wayyy too much lemon! Only thing saving them is the fish. I probably won’t go back
After relocating here from the uk I have been here for almost 10 years! I have Never really found great fish and chips, it is always off or just not what I know from back home. I recently moved to the neighbourhood, I came across this chip shop firstly can we just acknowledge the curry sauce! That is my go too with my fish and chips and the batter of course for the fish that is how it is supposed to be done It literally took me back to my local chippy growing up Sea Witch it is 10 from me
Amazing - even better than I remembered! We don't live nearby and hadn't been here since before the pandemic. But we decided to meet some friends here on the weekend. We were blown away all over again and we're going again tonight with a larger group! We've found that a lot of places aren't as good as they were before the pandemic, but this place, if anything, is better. And amazing that they have woodfield beers! The stout is the best and not always easy to find.
This place is one of my favorite resturant in the city. If you are a fan of fish and chips, you can't miss this place. Every thing is beyond excellent. I've never seen anyplace give me an option to choose my fish for my fish and chips. Out of 4 options I choose pickerale and it was the best I've ever ate. The taste of the fish was awsome 100% recommended. The chips are fresh cut and crispy. For me the most important thing was the staff, nice and wonderful people. They are so much caring. I've never been treated like this befor. And the last thing is, you are gonna love the atmosphere.
Excellent chowder, love the batter on their fish had their Haddock sandwich really, really good and filling. Staff are very helpful. Will definitely be back.
As I walked in, my favorite Oasis song started playing, so consider me biased Love the vibe, the fish was delish, and I always appreciate the tartar sauce made from scratch! Will come back again!
Went there tonight. I got there at 7: 40 but they refused to seat us saying that they were closing in 20 minutes. Physically the place is dingy and depressing at best. Don't take a date unless you want to end the relationship. The fish was first class. We ate in the car. The cole slaw was dreadful unless you love excess vinegar and pepper in your food. The chips were also excellent. The soup is forgettable. The staff were uninterested bordering on rude. In summary, while it would be hard to find such good quality fish in Toronto, the negative factors outlined above tipped the balance against ever returning to this place again.
Amazing batter. Got the trout and the cod with onion rings and poutine. I preferred the trout because the cod flavour got a little lost, but the trout was awesome. Huge portions. Great onion rings. Fries are old-timey thick cut, which I know can be controversial depending on your personal preference. Perhaps the best fish and chips in Toronto proper.
Delicious halibut and chips! I do however feel bad as my debut and visa cards were not working with an odd error being displayed and I got upset as I was hungry. I still need to pop in and pay. Thanks for everything Sea Witch.
We were looking for Fish & Chips in our area and researched online. Sea Witch had a great reputation so we tried it. We were not dissappointed. We couldn't try everything, but the Halibut, Halibut Fish Cakes, Chips, Coleslaw and dips were each amazing. My only complaint, since we were 3, is the booth we selected had a small column inventing the seating. We didn't think it would affect us, but when you are 2 people on the bench, it does make it slightly uncomfortable for one. We will be back, even if it's just to sample what looks to be amazing onion rings.
HUGE portions. Crispy fish and chips. I drive here from the east end to eat from here. My English boyfriend said this is English approved! We will keep coming here for years to come.
I got the cod and it was delicious. Highly recommend this place! The portions are very generous and everything was cooked perfectly. Also, there tartar sauce was excellent.
Ordered Online. Got the Halibut Cakes with Horseradish Garlic Mayo & Haddock and Chips with Tartar. Everything was excellent. Thanks Sea Witch, will order again.
I was surprisingly disappointed after seeing other reviews. The fish was ok but nothing special, but the poutine was terrible and dry. I couldn’t even see any gravy on it at all. And the coleslaw had no taste: (
I admire this place! They offer tasty food, their menu is nice, The chef in that restaurant is a real authority in the kitchen, I love a lot trying all their food. The food is always tasty, the service towards the customers is agreeable. I go often to this restaurant and I not even once was unsatisfied. I highly recommend it.
I have been eating at this place for a long time and am not giving my rating based on food quality, but for obvious double standards. After placing an order they stated it was credit card payment only, or to make an order online. My wife grabbed her card and we proceeded with payment. After hanging up I realized we had just supported a business that refuses business to less fortunate people who don’t have access to the internet, or a credit card. Upon calling to ask for a refund I was told they can’t do refunds because of COVID and they can offer me a credit. As I had already decided at this point I would not be returning I opted to proceed with the order. Upon arriving I was given intense, evil glares from the staff until my food arrived. To my amazement on the “pick up” table beside my food bag was a large tip jar labeled “swear jar” with no shortage of coins and bills. Pretty hard to believe a small business, during these times, would refuse cash as payment for food, yet supply a tip jar at the door. I will try to attach the pic if possible. We have a large population of citizens who unfortunately don’t have access to the internet and others who don’t have access to credit. I have a couple suggestions: 1. Allow customers to tap debit card through the glass, or 2. Accept cash in a separate jar labeled food for thought. As a small business owner I can sympathize with the struggle during the lockdowns but refusing access to your food to the less privileged is not acceptable.
The food was good but an item was missed and when I called the store and asked for a credit they said because of covid they couldn’t do it. This was there error and it cost me money. The person at the store said I should email Kevin of which I did and has received no response.
