The Fish & Chip Place

It was one of the slowest services I have experienced in restaurants. It was very slow and expensive. The only positive point is the view. Other than that, if it was possible for me, I won't even rate it 1star. It took 40 to 50 min to get fish n chips. Restrooms were quite dirty, too.

Waitress was sweet, but would be nice for her to come back during the meal to check on guests if all is ok.
We ordered 2 piece Haddock with fries. Portion is very small. Fish looked like the frozen, boxed fish you get from any grocery store. Fish looked brown as if it might have been fried twice. Most likely it was, because pictures in reviews show nice yellow coated fiah while we got served brown-coated fish.
Taste 3/10, wont be going back. Toronto has amazing Halibut House which serves good portions and super tasty food. We are going for us Fish & Chips there.
If you want tasty food, this is not the place.
Ran by teenagers that are behaving like small children while nobody is looking. If nobody is looking, does not man you are not seen.

Service was great and all staff were more than happy to accommodate dietary needs. I’m usually not a fan of fish and chips but this batter was super thin and light which was amazing. One order came with two fish and a basket of fries, enough for two people. We also got a basic Caesar salad. I personally loved the fish taco but definitely on the pricier end. Finding parking was difficult as there aren’t many spots available.

The place is really nice, the waitress was really friendly and nice and of course the food was great and on time!

Strongly believe they used old oil to fry their fish and chip. The mix of the batter was wrong, it wasn’t crispy, it wasn’t airy and it wasn’t tasty. We were curious to taste local fish, but we were left with old oil and soggy fries. The fish taco should be named the fish burrito as it was presented as one. It was so bland and even the guacamole didn’t taste much.

Delicious! The fish is crispy but not overly battered or greasy. I had the fish tacos and my husband had the fish and chips and we were both very pleased.

If you like seafood this place rocks enjoyed every bite had the fish taco it was so good I ordered another one.

This place is extremely understaffed. There's only one girl running back and forth doing everything while people standing in line to get seated. Fish taco is just a burrito, not even a good one. The fish is lightly battered and fresh, but the fries are soggy. Not worth the money and time here.

Have been going here for years and still think it is the best whitefish in Tobermory. Fries are good too. Often very busy and seemingly understaffed. Pleasant staff. Only negative comment would be that shrinkflation seems to have struck the fish pieces. It may just be me but it seems like they are about half the size of previous years. Other thing to check if you care about what kind of fish you are eating is to check if they are actually serving whitefish - some years past they have substituted lake trout or other.

It's a good place to have fish and chips. They use Gregorian Bay whitefish, which tastes way different from other fish varieties served elsewhere. The fry is good in general, crunchy and light. We tried Calamari and Shrimp too and they were well made too. Though we felt that their fries were underdone, slightly undercooked and soggy. Also, we reached there almost 30 mins after their opening hours and few items on the menu were still unavailable, citing reason that they just opened, pretty surprising. But overall, they have great atmosphere, friendly staff. So if you are in Tobermory and hungry for some fish - this is where you want to be.

Had a lovely moment there. Very well situated, accepted our dog on the terrasse, so that’s neat. Waitress was A1. Loved our meal too. If you are looking for a quick stop, fresh beer and not pretencious, and not expensive food, this is your place!

Decent food but very short staffed. Unfortunately it is the norm these days, so make sure to be kind and patient with the staff - they are still doing a great job

The food was horrific, but our server was really sweet. Don't get the veggie taco unless you like cold canned green canned beans in a tortilla. It's not even a taco. And who puts Caesar dressing and salsa together?

Service was courteous, fast, and friendly.
Location and atmosphere was nice.
Food arrived quickly and the amount for the price was generous.
The food was *ok*. Not bad, but not really good either. Just ok and a little on the bland side. Not a whole lot of flavour goin' on.
Trout's a bit odd for fish and chips, but I won't fault them for that as it was clearly stated on the menus posted outside, so we were warned.
Beer selection was disappointing. No craft. Nothing local. Just macro-swill.

Enjoyed a nice meal with my family this past weekend. Our server was fantastic:)

Poor customer service.
We were in a group of 10 people and they did not let us seat together even tough their tables and chairs were removable.
The waitress left the entire tray on the table with our food and we need to the one separating the meals to the people on the table.
The waitress never stopped in our table to double check if everything was okay and/or if we need any assistance.
We could not pay the bill with different credicard or debit cards.everything where supposed to be in one bill (by the way, this was NOT informed to us upon arrival the restaurant).

At the end, our table decided not to leave tip due to the poor customer service and my friend's table (beside our table) then was FORCED to pay tip for a very poor service because we did not pay - UNBELIEVABLE.

Honestly, I don't recommend this place to anyone that goes to Tobermory.

The food and service was good but if you don't want fish don't go there. Very limited menu. Great fish and chips though.

Very friendly customer service and beautiful view of Tobermory's waterfront.
The trout was very fresh and cooked to perfection. Their fries though were lacking, definitely could have been more crispy! - the tarter sauce served was fine but I am shocked they don't have their own in house tarter sauce.
All in all, it was a good impromptu lunch and I would definitely go back. But maybe not for their fries.

I had an amazing experience at this restaurant. Our server, Chris, was so sweet and made our day. He had such charisma and brought us our meals with a twinkle in his eyes. Speaking of our meals, the food was delicious - the best I had in Tobermory. Thank you for an overall amazing experience. I will definitely return here again.

Crispy, not too oily and fast. The taco was very good too. Not a lot of options for drinks but it's good for a quick bite.

Fish was very well done, crispy outside and soft inside. Only issue there was only 1 small packet of tartar sauce for the take out order.

The best thing about this place was that they were actually open and had food. Service and food quality were mediocre at best.

All I can say is RUN!
When we got the food it was extremely COLD. My fish taco tasted like it was made of paper mache the chicken taco was sooo hard that it literally hurt swallowing it no matter how long I chewed. At one point I swear there was a piece of plastic in it I had to spit it out! It wasn’t even a busy but our waiter took sooo long to check on us that we only had a few bites of our meal left before she asked how’s it going and if we needed anything. There was only like 3 or 4 other groups in the restaurant at the time so I think she may have just completely forgot about us.

Also The food is given to you on a cafeteria tray? !? ! I felt like I was eating a high school cafeteria meal. Plus they took so long to turn on the lights once the sun set that everyone there was literally eating in the dark. My fiance and I were like.is this their way of saying get out? !? ! Haha & when they turned it on people from other tables started cheering and others were like oh finally!
This was a hot mess of a visit!
If u do decide to go.just go for the drinks!

This place has been around for as long as I've been coming to Tobermory (20+yrs) and the quality has been consistently mediocre over the years. It's quite pricey, but that it to be expected. We buy their fish for the experience, but honestly prefer fish & chips from a shack by the side of the road.

Of you want to save yourself some time and money, go to their take out window in the back and eat at one of the many picnic tables in town.

During our trip to Tobermory, the power went out at 3: 30pm and most restaurants had to close for the afternoon and evening. The Fish & Chip Place was seemingly the only restaurant with a backup generator within a reasonable walking distance. Despite the long line ups and busyness of the long weekend, we were greeted with a friendly and cheerful staff who clearly went beyond their daily duties to feed and give their customers a good time. I honestly have to applaud this place for it's ability to stay afloat during such a food crisis on one of the busiest summer weekends.

Food was very good as we enjoyed the fish and chips, fish taco, calamari, clam chowder and coleslaw.
As for the beers, our glasses were very clean and the honey sleeman was smooth and refreshing.

Cheers to the friendly ladies who took care of the front lines and cleared the tables, to the wait staff who ran from table to table to meet all orders, and the kitchen staff who continuously made delicious food for an endless line of takeout and dine in tables!

Seriously service as always been good but I can't say the same with the food in the last 5 years that I've been there every years quality is going down

Love the food and coffee. We were starving after a really long day of hiking and I'm glad the food didn't take so long and was tasty too!

Such a bad experience we were group of 10 and they put us both in 2 different places and charged almost 50$ extra just on service charge.and quantity was below average.rip off.

Very expensive. Fish and chips for one person came out to $18.90.

Fish was tasteless. Batter was thin and soggy, it was drenched in oil and the Fish was dry and chewy.
They clearly have the temperature on the fryers down too low, and they skimp on the batter too much. Put some salt and pepper in the batter for flavor. Don't freeze your fish.

I'm Nova Scotian, and this was the worst fish I've eaten in my life. Should have just paid for the potatoes.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon. Our server, Jill, was really polite and made sure we were getting taken care of. I ordered the fish and chips, and upgraded the fries to a poutine. Along with side dish of calamari, and onion rings.

The onion rings were good, served crispy, golden and it’s portion size was fair. I would recommend this dish.

The fish and chips came out on the slightly colder side. The batter was too moist as opposed to crispy or flaky. Had to send back the poutine to get reheated so the cheese would be more melted and the gravy warmed.

The calamari was overdone.

Overall service was great and the atmosphere was friendly but food quality was average.

The fries are decent (but nothing spectacular) and the fish isn't greasy. That's about all the good that can be said. The fish is some of the most bland fish I've had in my life. I'm not sure if the cooks/chefs are aware that salt exists. I don't expect any huge, overpowering flavours, but this is not how you cook fish. The tacos are decent but the Yogurt sauce completely overpowers all the other flavours. If you're dying for a fish taco, this might be the place. If not, just about anywhere else in town is better.

Very tasty plce but take too mich time. Specialy like this vacation place we dont wanna wast our valuable time to waiting here.

Fish taco was NOT fresh, fries mushy and the tarter sauce came in ONE tiny package, if your THE fish n chip spot, maybe make your own tartar sauce, its fekin mayo and relish with lemon juice, don t worry you can get lemon juice in a bottle, hell knows you won t buy fresh ones

Bon service, bon rapport qualité prix, rapide, pas cher. Le fish and ships est fait avec du poisson frais moelleux et pas sec avec une pannure mince et pas trop grasse. Le tacos est très bon aussi et change de d'habitude.

We waited 1 hour for fish and chips. Everyone is ordering the same thing so how come service cannot be faster? If your kitchen is too small don't make the patio so big so that people think they will be served. Fish tastes good but fries are way too salty.

Fish was great and nice portion. Chips were a huge disappointment. They are frozen fries with the skin left on to appear as though they are cut in house. Also disappointing that they wouldn't make their own tartar sauce. They use cheap food service tartar sauce. Those 2 simple changes would have made our meal considerably better.

Was seated within minutes of ariving (only 2 of us). After that it was downhill from there. Our server took our drink order, didn't arrive until 10 minutes later. Came back with the drinks, we were ready to order but he left. After waiting another 10-15 minutes he came back and he took our food order. I had a fish taco and the calamari and my girlfriend had the chicken fingers (because she doesn't eat fish). Fingers were massively over priced for 3 little fingers and fries. The fish tacos were absolutely gross, dry and flavorless and the calamari wasn't even hot which made them gross. None of our food was hot! Warmish at best. Our server NEVER asked us if we wanted a refill on our drinks nor did he ask us how the food was. I had waited 20 minutes to get my bill! I would not go back and I would definitely NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone

Fish tacos and bean salad taste disgusting. The tacos came cold and the salad so weird, so we complained and the owner came to us. Never apologized, which is like the first thing to do if you work with customer service. After explaining why it was disgusting, she asked us where we are from and said "this is how we do in Canada. You're not in Venezuela" - referring to our friend. Can't put into words how rude and disrespectful was jumping from a food complaint to making this whole thing about nationalities.

The Fish & Chips Place in Tobermory is one of the most popular places in Tobermory. During peak tourism time, the restaurant’s indoor and outdoor seating areas can be quite crowded. Is their Fish & Chips worth the long wait to be seated? Not really. While it may be the most popular, it is certainly not the best place to have a fresh catch of the day fish and chips. If you’re in a rush, this place does offer meals to go, which can be quite convenient if you’re on a tighter schedule.

What a nasty place! Fish without any seasoning and salt deep fried; with skin and bones. Dirty restroom. Would not recommend to anybody.

Poor service. Could not do simple math to save their life. Took super long for the food to come. Plus the water tastes like they got it from the lake.

Had the fish taco and calm chowder. Its was OK. Not the most flavourful or visually appealing taco as they were wrapped up.
Tobermory is a tourist area so expect tourist prices.
Food was delivered quickly. Server friendly but she disapeared when it was time to pay!

Good food.but waitress did not tell us it was 1 bill per table.we came for a quick meal, not to sit here dividing the bill between 5 people.after we divided the bill there was still an extra 10$ unaccounted for. We asked our waitress (Megan) to clear up the taxes for us just to see where we went wrong and she was extremely rude.
After calling her out for her attitude she corrected herself & explained.

Working in customer service involves reacting calmly to resolve confusion. If I ever spoke to a customer like you or your server did I would likely be fired on the spot.

Ordered for take out so can’t speak for restaurant itself or service, called in the order and picked up 15 mins later when I was told it would be ready.
Food was ready upon arrival, quick and friendly at the take out window. Food was still hot and good. 1 order of fish and chips + 2 extra fish pieces and 2 fish tacos. Tacos were above expectations, fish and fries were good too. Was $40. About average in the area and good for the amount we of food we got.
I’d definitely go back but I’d like to try other places in the area first.

Stopped in to try this fish taco they pride themselves on and the place seemed like a nice location to have a nice meal. Was prepared to spend $50+ and enjoy the sunset. Was seated pretty quickly but thats as quick as it got. Waited just over 35 mins for a server to ask us for drinks while they served larger groups around us that were seated after us. I'm a patient man but this was unacceptable. Finally our server took our food and drink order (water for me, chocolate milk for her). Water was warm and served in a plastic bar cup, no ice. Chocolate milk in a small carton. No glass or straw even. Had to ask for that. Based on the service up to this point and sitting there for an hour, I cancelled my order and went up the road. Server paid the $2.25 for the small chocolate milk. Thank you for that. Will not return or even recommend.

Too expensive for fried food plus the serving portion dose not equal to the cost. Food took a long time to be served. Its Its only fried food they offer you think it woukd be quick. Lastly they dud nit have soup at lunch time? Even though they have it on the menu.

Stopped for lunch.took long time to get our lunch. Food quality was not great. Fish was sort of raw and not properly done. Clam chowder soup had potatoes and did not taste and sea food. Would not recommend this place.

I don't normally gravitate towards fish and chips, but this place was worth the dietary detour. Staff were very friendly and the food portions were perfect.

The patio is great when we went in the summer time but the fish and chips are really mediocre with small portions, and there world renowned fish taco was literally a wrap not a taco with the same piece of fish with cabbage and tostitos salsa. There were multiple fish and chips in the area, unless the patio is an absolute must i would suggest somewhere else.

If you are reading this then it is your chance to avoid this tasteless dirty, unhygienic place. Fish comes with bones and skin without any seasoning at all. Filthy washroom with tons of urine/water on the floor. What a yukky place! Wasted our time and money.

My husband and I ate at this restaurant when we arrived at Tobermory. The fish (Georgian bay white fish) was great! Nice view from the patio, friendly and quick servers.

Great location overlooking the harbour. Living in England I have high expectations on fish and chips. Their fish was good but small and it just feels like too much batter.would have loved a home made sauce instead of this industrial stuff. Fast service though and always busy

This place is busy! But service is still decently quick. Price is fair and portion is what you expect for a fish and chip shop.
